I remember this episode, the guy didn't do it. He was framed and had been telling the truth the entire time. The only one who actually believed him was rollins. I remember this episode. These entitled, narcissistic teenagers set all of this up because he wouldn’t coach them for talent shows because they weren’t talented. Like I get being a little upset but to frame a man as a predator and ruin his life is ridiculous and evil. He was cleared but the damage was already done. He had no one on his side except Collins later. The allegations alone killed his career as a coach and a school teacher. It was horrible.

After seeing this clip, I decided to go to hulu to watch the whole episode. Right after this clip ends, Jackie asks for a lawyer and the cops have a conversation about how him asking for a lawyer is a clear sign of guilt. Do cops really think this? They were deliberately trying to lead him into confessing. They weren't asking clarifying questions, they were asking him questions deliberately meant to trap him into a confession of guilt. Why wouldn't he want a lawyer? I also remember another episode from way back in the day where a man suspected of murder DIDN'T ask for a lawyer for initial questioning which made the detectives think of him as an unlikely suspect only to find out later on he was the killer. Calling your lawyer vs not calling one doesn't seem like an accurate way to measure guilt to me.

The stepfather was sent to prison for many years, with one of the few people believing him being his wife. It was only sometime later that the stepdaughter confessed that she had made the whole thing up to get his attention, destroying a man's reputation for her selfish desires. To this day, the stepfather and his wife have barely any contact with their child who disrupted the man's life.

It meant that you don't assume the accused is guilty unless you have proof but you don't also assume the accuser is vindictive for the same reason. He also raised upa good suggestion and that is keep the accused's identity hidden from the public until guilt can be determined when dealing with these type of cases. That way if the accused is innocent, the stink is easier to get rid of.

This episode IMO highlighted one of my biggest issues about this show, in that once the squad zero in on a suspect there's often a presumption of guilt and they frame the evidence (circumstantial or otherwise) to support their chosen narrative. They main characters, especially Olivia and Stabler when he was still there, are arguably even worse than McCoy when it comes to letting their biases and prejudices influence the case. Based on the comments, there is a reason why guilt needs to be established. I’m a straight male teacher (HS), and I often worry about how I am perceived because we live in a world were anyone can say anything and my life would be ruined. It wouldn’t even have to be true.
Of course, kids must be protected. I am very protective of my students because I treat them like my own kids! I would wish for anyone who wants to do them harm to meet with misfortune. But I am aware that all it takes is one little girl who hates that I failed her to go and complain that I touched her as revenge. That is why these cases must always been treated delicately and privately until guilt has been established.

And before the police investigate anything, they will turn it loose to the news media. I saw this happen to a guy once. The investigating officer spent more time tormenting the guy rather than do his job and investigate. He tried numerous times to get the guy to confess. The case went to court and the guy was found not guilty. The investigating officer didn’t even show up for the trial. The kid and kid’s family were found to have lied about everything. The man that was accused lost his job, his home (because someone felt the need to burn him and his family out), and his kids were ridiculed and bullied by other kids. But this shows the reality of the worst case scenarios, kids are pure and cruel.
