    03:40 regarding pitch range - easy to understand reason: The MPC can only output CV ranges from 0V to 5V, no negative CV and not more than 5V.
    For "normal" CV (velocity, modulation etc.) this is typically enough, but pitch needs more to get more than 5 octaves with 1V/octave.
    The MPC pitch CV is internally mapped to C1 ... C6 with C1 sending 0V. Eurorack normally uses 0V for C3.
    So there might be a 2 octave pitch shift on top of the limited range.
    Normally this should not be that big tragedy, because typical synth keyboards have no higher rage either and pitch shifting is easy to correct by an octave switch.

    MPC one is an amazing unit. I’m using it as an alternative to my usual Cubase and Ableton setups. It gives a great blend of instant access of hardware without any major compromise.
    Your video was really useful - please make more videos with the MPC one and your external gear.

    Just found this older video, but throwing in my two cents any way: using an mpc with your modular is fantastic, kind of like a beatstep on steroids, especially if your modular case has a midi I/O as well.. Aside from the usual internal sequencing, I use the mpc to: send divided and multiplied clock tracks, start and stop external sequencers (crave, especially) and modulate all the things. Modular is pretty ethereal (at least, my setup is), in that once you have a "sunday unplug-day", it's unlikely you'll ever find exactly the same sound again, but it's nice to have the gate and cv data recorded. Good video, I'll check out your newer stuff.

      @@PinkBuddhaAcademy Imagine having another type of step sequencer mode. Where you press the pad corresponding to the beat and then turn a knob to adjust the note value or voltage amt for modulation. As is, it's so backwards having to select the "note pad" and then specify what beats that correspond to that note. It shoudl be press the beat, then select the note. So that could be like another different mode. Also what about entering in notes in play mode like you can do on the Mother 32/crave/303? They could add that feature as well. There is so much the MPC could do for eurorack with that big display all those buttons/pads and 8 cv/gates out.

    Nice tutorial. Thanks for the pointers. The Akai MPC X, CV video, says only certain banks can be used for CV, so it was designed that way. Also, if you want to get more out of your four CV outs, you should be able to resample the audio of whatever module you’re currently working with, and after you’ve captured the audio, you can use all four outs for a different module.

    What kind of a mixer do you have here, where does all the sound go to, and do you have a compressor or other effects there? I just got an MPC One to fill in a spot in a "DAWless" setup, and I'm trying to get a feeling of how I want it all to work. So far my main idea is to bring in "outboard" (relative to the MPC One) signals via a small mixer and compressor into the MPC One's inputs, and use the MPC One as the final master output.

    If we could only have CV Inputs on the Akai MPC's so we could use other CV modules to modulate it, that would be a game changer, have all your samples and multi samples modulated by external CV's is final frontier. There is really no sampler out there that has CV in and outs, maybe Iridium but too expensive. One shot samples and the editing work on these Eurorack CV modules is daunting. Maybe the best way for now is to get DC coupled In Audio interface and load all the samples and multi samples in your DAW sampler then we talking some sonic possibilities.

    How hard is it to sample the audio out from the synths back into the mpc then assign the samples/sequences to pads?
    Looking into one because by the time I’ve bought logic or reason, a decent audio interface and a midi to cv converter, it’d be at least halfway to the price of a live 2, with all the added distraction of the internet being a click away on my laptop!

    • @PinkBuddhaAcademy

      Not hard at all. But....I would never really want to try and finish a whole track on this, or the Force, whatever. Standalone. Because you're basically just using a tiny computer (and tiny screen) to finish pieces. Can't use any 3rd party plugins, etc.

    Can the knobs on the MPC be mapped to CV and movement be recorded as automation?
    And I think your cv voltage problem would be fixed by using the T/R/S splitter cables instead of standard T/S cables. That is why you are having "weird electrical problems". You are shorting ports 1+5, 2+6, 3+7 and 4+8 together. You could try inserting the patch cables only part in way to the MPC. So it clicks just one time as you insert it.

      mmmm....sort of. You have to just send out gates. And that can act as a clock. It's kind of a pain, but also presents some opportunities. i.e. that you could have an irregular clock, just by varying your notes. Like have steady quarter notes coming, but every once in a while, you stop them or have eighth notes instead.

    CV is such a good addition to the MPC. I've found a strange behaviour though - possibly a bug - and I wonder if anyone can help.
    On a CV Track CV Mod parameters don't follow the track length but notes and velocity in the same track do. Eg I have a Sequence of 32 bars and a CV Track with a length of 5 beats (I dig the polyrhythms!) The melody and velocity are sent via CV1-3 (pitch, gate, velocity) and loop over 5 bars. However, a Mod envelope on the same track going out CV4 will loop over 32 bars (ie, it follows the sequence length, not the track length).
    Am I misunderstanding the setup or is this deliberate behaviour? Or a firmware bug?!

    • @PinkBuddhaAcademy
      @PinkBuddhaAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing about CV, is that you're dealing with electricity - and that can always get a bit squirrely. Very different than sending things out via MIDI and then getting a MIDI to CV converter (which is honestly what I might recommend).

    • @davehouse78
      @davehouse78 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PinkBuddhaAcademy that's true, but it seems slightly odd as if the MPC can loop the CV mod at the end of the sequence I'd have thought it could do so at the end of a track. It's doing that for pitch and velocity CV anyway, plus its capable of having the CV mod values jump all over the place within the sequence, so it's not like it has to sync LFOs etc. Oh well! I'm sure it's more complicated than that!

      No it’s probably just keeping the note range of each bank consistent between midi and CV?
      I can see the logic:
      If you were on one track hooked up to a CV instrument, and it transposed the first bank upwards into CV range...
      If you then switched over onto another track hooked up to an internal instrument, or an external midi instrument...
      It’d produce some insane lows that might mess your speakers up.
