So funny, I randomly picked this up in a Japanese bookstore (Kinokuniya NYC), was charmed by the cover and bought your book! It was shrink wrapped so bought it solely on the cover!! And let me tell you, the shopping competition is fierce! I probably had 4 or 5 other books that I was considering but ended up with yours. Everything you mentioned about size, paper and color quality is exactly as described. I sat in Bryant park and enjoyed each page. Now I’m a huge fan, subscribed and am enjoying all your videos, old and new. Congratulations on this excellent book.
My son and I just bought your new book from a Kinokuniya store in Plano, Texas USA. It is absolutely delightful! Every page is a joy to see, we love them all and especially enjoy the night scenes, they are magical. We love the paper, the texture, the finish, and the way the book opens flat. This cover is another beautiful drawing and painting, well done! You have every right to be proud and optimistic about your art and accomplishments, thank you so much for sharing your hard work and talent, we are happy to follow you and looking forward to seeing what you create next.
I pre-ordered this book last week. I can't wait for it to arrive. I have the Tokyo nights one as well. Your art is inspiring to me as I'm learning watercolor :)
Hey I finally bought your book. It was constantly out of stock on Amazon US. I just want to tell you that I love every single page of it. Thank you for creating such beautiful art.
Excited to read it!!! I purchased the Tokyo storefronts and Tokyo at night last month, and I really love your artworks. So, when I saw this new book of yours, I didn't hesitate and buy it. Btw, can't wait for your new book about another Tokyo storefronts. ❤️
I am absolutely in love with the freedom of your lines, the colour choices and the entire scene as a whole. Viewing this piece is like reading a favourite book or listening to your favourite piece of music, relaxing. As others have said I can almost ‘feel’ the wind blowing, the cool autumn breeze reminding you winter is on the way. My wife and kids will be in Japan in September (I have to work and look after the house here so am unable to make it to Japan this year), so I will ask if they can find your books!
I bought your 2 previous books and i fell in love with your work. You have inspired me to end the art block i had. Can't wait for the third volume!! Greetings from Spain!
Adorable artwork, thanks for finally sharing a video with us. Like you said in the beginning, it was quite a while since the last one. Also, looking forward for buying your book!
I've been following your work for a while (originally after discovering your wife's comics!!) and your work captures everything I love about watercolor. Whenever I get the money scrounged up, I'll be sure to support you and your new book!
I always love your work, and this book-cover is also great! Also, you don't have to apologize for being proud of your illustration! It really looks great, and what matters the most is that you like it! Every artist should have at least one thing they are proud they created, be proud of your amazing works! I follow your work because you make amazing watercolor illustrations with your trademark loose lines that I could never do like you do! It really is amazing!
I'm from Vietnam, and I was really surprised to come across your last 2 books in the bookstore the other days. I ended up buying both of them. Cannot wait for this book to come to Vietnam also.
Huge fan of your work (I have a bunch of framed Tokyo storefront, also bought the supply box), I somehow missed this video and the book!! I bought it and it such a great art book, the print quality is amazing, and the fact that it can lay flat is great I hope you'll do more of those kind of books!
I found out TODAY that your new book is out!! I am looking the german sites to find it 🤩 Wish me Good Hunting!!! Ah, yes that is also my all time favorite episode of Love Death+Robots....
Have you considered more merch? Like t shirts, mugs, calendars, framed printed, etc. ? Would love it if you had online store…..I own your Tokyo at night book….just received from my wife as birthday gift…..I love the lonely telephone booth as you open the book….very mysterious. There are so many good prints in the book I can’t choose a favorite. Your talent is incredible……blessings to you and your wife. (Ps. I found you via Japanology)
I would love to be able to purchase this book to ship to USA! My dear friend loves water colors and japan and I wish to buy it as a gift, it is truly beautiful. Please update us if and when this would be possible! thank you :) Wish you all the best
Congratulations ! Your new book looks wonderful in the video. I'm looking forward to buying it. And what a pleasure to watch the creative process of the cover ! Thank you for sharing it.
Congratulations on another fine book! I already have your Tokyo Storefronts and Tokyo By Night books, and I can't wait to get my hands on this new one. I love the fact that it will lay flat. And the cover is has so much warmth and movement packed into it. I really love it!
Interesting about Kura house. I wonder if it's a kura in mushishi (S01E02 or chap04 in the manga : 瞼の光, Mabuta no Hikari ) in which Sui is locked in the dark (the girl with blindfold) .. This cover about your artbook gave me a motivation to draw ... I like this style.
Your book is so gorgeous! As a graphic designer and illustrator i really love it. This is exactly what i would choose to do if i decide to make my own. Very well done 👌
I find it so hard to say when I like a piece of mine. The words feel weird, like I shouldn't be satisfied or that it clearly makes me an arrogant ass-hat. So, if you get a piece that you love, and that inspires you, even if it came from your own fingertips, it's great to be able to give yourself the freedom to state it. Lovely job!
Hi Mat. Marialena's here. I was about to comment on the fantastic binding of this book. It looks great. Congratulations of the books release. ETA: Where the heck did you find this fantastic pencil sharpening knife? Can you give me a link for this knife, scalpel or whatever that is called please?
Congratulations! When will this be available to purchase in the US? As a screenwriter, your work constantly inspires me. So happy your are publishing this new work!
Beautiful book illustrati ons ! do you think this book will be translate and edited in french ? and do you think, in the future you publish yours books in coloring adult book ? i think it is a good idea for your community to generate imagination with your drawing ! sorry for my bad english
I love your work. I order your new book through Ebay, because I couldn't wait for it to be available on Amazon. It arrived today, I'm super happy. Thank you for sharing your process.
Hello! You mention this is your third book, could you link the first two as well, please? I just purchased the Hokkaido in Ink one via your shop links, would love to get the "whole set" :-)
Ej ej Mati, czy widziałeś zwiastuny anime cyberpunk?? To chyba pierwsza taka produkcja gdzie współpracują studio Trigger i CD projekt Red.
May I ask something? Why do you scan the ink lines and then you are applying them as a layer at the scanned coloured image instead of adding the ink lines at the end of the original illustration? If you like darker lines then why don't you do the inking after applying the watercolours? At the end of the day you have already the pencil lines in order to guide you for the colouring .
@@mattjabbar Yes I have not objection about how different is ink from pencil But you can always make a second pass over your initial pencil lines. But I have seen you doing this on ink lines too. Why bother to do that on the editing and not on the original illustration? I mean to complete the original illustration and not its reproduction. You might want to sell the original illustration at some point... I saw btw a video here on youtube where an illustrator made the pencil lines with a well sharpened 8B pencil and then he applied the very transparent watercolours on top of these very dark lines. If I locate it I will give you a link to watch it because it was a very interesting technique.
@@creativecolours2022 There are many reasons why I do it this way. I don't do it on ink lines by the way, because they are dark enough so I don't have to. But for pencils, I like how lines of about 2B to 4B look like - 8B is too smooth and grainy and it also melts a lot when you put watercolors on, and you cannot erase it well. Also a second pass on top of watercolors doesn't work well because of the pigment that is already on the paper and the pencil only makes things shiny but not darker. A single pass works if you use pencils like the Staedtler Mars Black 8B but these are more like black crayons than pencils. I hope that the new Faber Castell matt pencils will also allow for less shiny darker but still erasable lines for watercolors but I cannot buy them in Japan through official ways yet. Anyway, all artists have their "methods" that work for them even though they might seem a bit unnecessarily cumbersome at times.

I really the book binding. It can flip the page able to see full illustration. Great work mat.
You have a lot of patience in drawing backgrounds and sceneries. Wish I have that kind of patience.
