    Real life gardening. When the mental exhaustion kicks in and you just need that first frost to get here

    Wow! Your garden is impressive! Thanks for sharing it! This is the first year in 14 years that I haven’t had a garden. I took the year off (was kind of forced to) for kids sports commitments. I can’t wait to get back at it next year.

    I too planted way more orange than red tomatoes....and yes, all my canned goods are orange but tastes delicious just the same 😊
    Great harvest!!

      Thank you! They’re just so tasty. Finished up a double batch of roasted tomato soup last night. Turned out delicious and very orange 🙂

    Quality looks fantastic. Down under here in Aussie we make green tomato pickles like a chutney spread with the green toms that haven’t ripened, if you like I can send you the recipe.

    I appreciated that you posted this video. It's fun seeing what you grow in your garden for ideas for my garden next year so I can have supplies for when I follow your canning videos. Your tips are also helpful, thank you!

    Here in Wichita, we have several tomato plants, one of which is a spoon; it was the ONLY plant that produced fruit. Which is odd, as all of our plants are THRIVING. Blossoms and everything, but no fruit. :( (Yes, we have pollinators; our cucumbers did pretty good.)

    • @abbeyverigin
      @abbeyverigin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that’s always disappointing! Was it a hot year for you? It can be hard for tomatoes to set fruit in the heat

      @@abbeyverigin Yes it was, and I don't see that ever going back to 'normal'- climate change is NOT a hoax!

    I’m feeling the same about my allotment. I haven’t managed to plant as much for autumn as I would have liked but I’m struggling to keep up with harvest prep so will just have to accept it this tear.

      By the time fall comes around I’m usually just ready for a break, especially since most of the fruit is just starting to ripen. As much as I’d like to push for more of a harvest I usually just don’t have it in me!

    I've been done with the garden first of August. I went too hard with flowers, etc - all of it... in spring and yeah. Amazing Pepper year tho. Inundated.
    Anxious to see what you do with the Sugar Rush Peach. I have a boatload

      Awesome your peppers are doing great! I shared a peach hot sauce recently and that would be great using sugar rush peach peppers. I’m making a batch of just plain sugar rush peach hot sauce. The recipe is from the chili pepper madness website if you search it :)

    What did you add at time of planting and how often, & which products did you use to fertilize and get so many tomatoes?

    • @abbeyverigin
      @abbeyverigin  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For tomatoes I have been using the trick of adding a whole egg to the hole at time of planting. I do think it helps and haven't had any issues. Other than that, just compost at time of planting and maybe a little more compost top dressed throughout the season but I really don't do much.

    What do you use shishto peppers for? We thought we planted poblano’s and this is what came up I guess it was a switch at the garden center it happened to
    My son also

    • @abbeyverigin
      @abbeyverigin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have had my share of those mishaps! I love shishito peppers blistered in a cast iron skillet. Just heat a skillet over medium heat, add a bit of oil and add the peppers. Season with salt and pepper. You can add a bit of fresh lemon juice after cooking or serve with a homemade garlic aioli. They’re a favorite of mine!

      We love sliced shisitos sautéed and blistered like Abbey described above, then add in eggs to scramble and top with Monterey Jack cheese. Such a delicious breakfast. Also, good this way rolled up in corn tortillas with black beans.
