I am happy you appreciate it, I think it is super important to talk about these things as well - both to encourage people to think sustainability into these aspects, but also to normalise them 💚🌿
Gaia is sustainable as far as *ahem* durability too...I've had mine for YEARS and everything else I bought for that purpose crapped out within a year or two.
I don't really wear pyjamas either, but I do get gifted pyjamas occasionally which I use for staying at someone else's place or for pyjama day at work.
About the stockings, I found an ethical/sustainable company that makes stockings that are ten time stronger than steel and are unbreakable in human hands!! They're called Sheertex and I've had mine for months and I haven't got even the tiniest hole or rip in them yet!!
Apparently Nylon used to be quite the durable material. There's an old black and white video I remember watching where 2 nylon tied cars displayed their durability by trying to drive opposite. Planned obsolescence gradually brought it to the low quality material it is today.
I also started using Sheertex about 2 yrs ago and I love them, I am using mostly dresses and skirts so.. I kinda' need stockings, plus my dresses are both for summer and winter, don't care much :)
I like wearing clothes for sleeping during winter (and depending on how cold I feel also during other seasons). but i don't like these pyjamas. I use old loungewear or even multi-use my loungewear /homewear for sleeping and lounging. as for hangers: I like wooden hangers and i bought mine second hand :)
It’s fantastic that you talk about these things that are normally taboo but it’s important that people know their resources so we can all lead a more sustainable life.
Loved the video. I feel there isn’t a lot of sustainable channels that talk about intimacy sustainability. People do it, let’s talk about how to minimize our impact from it. 👏🏼🙌🏼
I absolutely love your content. You're true to what you believe (so many green bloggers are shady and find themselves promoting tons of stuffs they were telling you not to buy), it's refreshing and gives me hope that yes, we can resist fast fashion and buying shit, we can do so much. You've made me stop a lot of things, I just moved into my first appartment and everything is second hand. I'm so happy to think that I may never buy new furniture in my life, I feel like I'm part of a generation that tries to do better than our parents. Anyway, I find your videos inspiring and hope you will continue for as long as you can! Love from France ;)
Good reminder that perfume and essential oils need so much ingredients. I defenetely like using both, but not a ton. But I am going to inform myself about a responsible way of using those :)
Syntetic perfume is also a bit toxic and not good for anyone, especially not for people with asthma or allergies. So we should actually avoid them all together.
My local charity shop (in UK) sells amazing sheets and pillowcases that are used ex-hotel bed linens. They are amazing! The quality is really high, and they are super soft from the thousands of times they've been washed. A really cheap and sustainable way to have beautiful bed linens
Re clothes hangers, as my ancient plastic ones break I don’t replace them, I fold the clothes instead which takes up less space. Except for some coats and dresses, for which I have wooden hangers.
I bought an organic cotton bed sheet and it's LUXURIOUS. I plan to buy organic covers as well, but sets are so expensive and I don't need new ones yet and hopefully won't need new ones for a few years
Video's like this give me so much inspiration!! For bedsheets, I only buy them second hand. The ones I have are (probably) from the 80's and of waaaay better quality than anything I've found in the stores. It is a bit of a gamble though, because secondhand bedsheets can have stains. Although, if that is the case, I will use it as cleaning rags or as a fabric to practise my sewing skills on.
Your energy is so radiant, i love the authenticity of the videos and the humility you portray. It is very humbling and the effort you put into your videos really shows
I dont buy any of these things anymore either! Once I stop buying so much stuff, I appreciate what I currently have even more! Thanks for making this video, cant wait for more!
I get plastic hangers from stores. Haven't bought any hangers since I was young. Better that I use them rather than the store throwing them away which is a norm where I am
I used to work at an adult store and we legit had a "vibrator" graveyard for the ones we would test (before purchase, we offered a battery test because once it walked out of the store, no returns) and any that didn't work, went in a box in the back and would be sent back to the company. The only adult/personal devices I've bought since then, have been well well researched. I do like sleepwear because I hate sleeping naked! I like cute ones too because I like feeling cute in bed, but I also buy it all secondhand now. Haven't bought hangers in years (bought a bunch at a thrift store once). I really did like this video, it was interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing.
@@Gittemary I don’t know whether or not to say you’re welcome, new fact or apologize because maybe that was a fact you could have gone forever not knowing 😂
If you ever want to try it I highly recomend bamboo products. I started using bamboo sheets and looking for bamboo clothing a couple of years ago and I’m not going back 😊 I need to look into hemp products too
I can never find tights (I think they're called stockings outside the US) in thrift shops! I have heard of a brand called Sheertex, I know they are probably not the most sustainable brand but since their tights are supposed to be "indestructible" could they be a sustainable investment?
My family always gives me crap for sleeping in normal t-shirts and sweat pants 😐 Did someone really ask about reusable condoms? 😵 And some people say we don't need sex education...
These tips are so helpful! Also, the little things like hangers etc. define the interior, all the plastic accessories and synthetic nearly-disposable textiles can make a room look cheap no matter how fine the furniture is.
If there's anyone out there that still wants to wear perfume, so many people sell partially used bottles online. I have no idea why so many people sell them, but it's a lot cheaper and you're not creating demand for the product
Something I really really want to replace in my bedroom is my mattress. After reading so many things about our use of flame retardants, I wanted to upgrade. I have heard so many amazing things about the "naturla home by the futon shop" and their use of sustainable products. However, I also don't have money for that right now😅😭
My lokal thriftshop has a box outside with things that are free and usually there are some clothing hangers in there which is so nice if you need some so I never buy them.
I'm curious have you ever considered living in a tiny house or off the grid living? it's something I'm interested in right now so just wondering :) Loved the video
Thanks for talking about sustainable "pleasure devices" (love that name btw 😂) because I literally was searching for this information and couldn't find it anywhere because no one talks about it
I loved your "devices" speech hehe! I totally agree that these can be super wasteful and I'm curious to explore more sustainable options. I was wondering if you had any advice on how to dispose of them? I have a couple I've never used but I'm not sure anyone would buy them second hand?? Thanks and hi from New Zealand!
I only buy thrombosis stockings. They don't rip so fast and are surprisingly durable. I just wash them by hand or but them in those bra washing things for the washingmashine, mine have lasted me for over 5 Years.
So for the bedroom.... Can we talk about pillows. What is better for pillows. I've had my pillow for twenty years now, but it's starting to fall apart. It's latex foam btw. Any suggestions for buying a new one?
About the parafin wax, a lot of plant waxes production are related to non ethical labor practices, so guys make sure you know were the wax came from and if the industry is transparent about production
Happy Birthday Jens , you and Gitte look lovely and happy together in the photo where youre both looking dressed up , perhaps going out to eat for your birthday ?
Aren't candles also very intensive because of the essential oils, florals etc? I love my candles but after what you said about perfume, wouldn't it also apply to candles?
From what I've gathered, with soy candles it's just a plant based material with quite a small amount of scent added (such as some drops of essential oil) VS a perfume which is a big concentrated liquid, they often use rare ingredients, are petro chemical based and made in an energy guzzling process. There are definitely more eco alternatives to smelling nice (I rely on my natural deodorant) and there are eco friendly perfumes so I would look into that if it's something important to you!! :) but as for your question, though hard to measure, supporting (especially handmade and local which I prefer to) soy based candle companies is likely to be a lot less impactful than purchasing generic perfumes.
It completely applies to candles as well, execessive use is unsustainable. There are not necessarily as much perfume/essential oil in a candle as in a whole bottles, but still it is certainly true
"Natural" does not always mean sustainable, it takes up to 700 flowers to make 15 mililiters of perfume, that is a natural process, but with overconumption far from sustainable. The impact comes from cultivated land, how that decreases biodiversity, CO2 emissions and deforestation to make room for fields 🌿
The patreon posts mentions it a bit more, but there is not much else to say about, because I haven't had any issues with it, I haven't felt it and it haven't affected my use of the menstrual cup. It'll be taken out next Summer, and I'll have a new one put in 🌿👌
There's soy based candles in wine glasses or whiskey tumblers on earthhero, but they are expensive. You would get a nice glass after it is used up tho.
Do you have any advice on storing huge loaves of bread? I bake my own bread but I can't just leave it out so I end up buying big plastic bags to store it in, which is nice because it prevents it from drying out and then I can put the bag with the bread in the fridge after a couple days so it doesn't get mold. I re-use the bags, but I'd be interested in an actual reusable alternative. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, you talk about essential oils and how resource intensive they are I was just wondering if there’s any ethically sourced options or alternatives that you know of please? Thank you
My bedroom thing I don't buy would be sexy underwear. They're almost exclusively made of synthetic materials, crazy expensive and also crazy uncomfortable. I don't know about you, but for me having an itch in my bum just doesn't feel very sexy.
They make me feel sexy sometimes so I have 3 lacy underwear and the rest are cotton lol I don't think I would need any more, and if I did there is so many cute (one woman) handmade lingerie companies I would love to support.
I don’t have sexy underwear either mainly also the expense as I’m bigger busted and even an ordinary bra costs me just under £40 let alone sexy underwear prices xx
For stockings you Can have a lot at Swedish Stockings, they only produce stockings from recycled old stockings, and they are super resistant, should have a look 😉
I'm really interested in sustainable bed sheets but my boyfriend and I really only like flannel sheets. We use them year round and don't use a comforter. Are there sustainable flannel versions available?
I honestly don’t buy condoms either my partner and I had a serious talk and came to a “we don’t want kids anyways decision” and I got my tubes tide a year after putting thought into it. I want to phase out badly made sheets and blankets Iv been going for the more pricey more well made ones and Iv been proud of how much better I feel in bed.
sustainability is like a rabbit hole of infomation lol, whenever we start looking into we can dive into the impact of things we never considered before. Don't feel bad for not doing it sooner, it's amazing your are doing it now
@@Gittemary I'm slowly learning more and more and you are a big help in making us realize that there really are things that have huge impact on the environment and we didn't consider before. What's done is done for a lot of items we have in our houses. I'm learning to consider twice before buying if I need an object and what the impact on the environment would have when it's reached its "death".
Thank you so much for this very inspirational video. I have been left wondering about 1 thing though... We're getting more and more comfortable talking about periods and period products (with you helping the movement a lot!). Wgy is it, however, that people still seem so uncomfortable talking about sex and sex toys? Yes, it's an intimate subject, but so is having a period. And both are natural.... What do you and the community think?
If I sounded a bit off it was because I was constantly thinking about how much I could say without being demonetized haha 😂 But yeah intimacy, pleasure, birth control and self-care should not be a taboo it is natural, necessary and a good thing, always 🌿💚
@@Gittemary I do apologise; I didn't mean to offend and really didn't think about the issue that way. How silly it is though, that you have to mind your words that much. It's not like you're posting porn or sth... How to have sustainable s** would be an amazing topic though 😁

It bugs me that I don't have thrift stores where I live. My mom always always bought second hand clothes. She's a hoarder, she has a serious problem with clothes but anyway. I know there are treasures hidden in there!
I've tried to go without condoms with my partner. Unfortunately, I've noticed I'm much more susceptible to UTIs. So cutting that out is just not for me. 🤷🏼♀️
This is me and my experience only but what I found out is that cumm*ng inside is a big no no and it equals UTIs...when that is avoided it is actually all good for majority of the time. Majority of condoms give me issues, latex or non latex and it was just such an annoying journey to find out what would actually work
I will admit there is this kitchen tool I bought because I was simply lazy to cut an avacado simple with a chef knife and a spoon the flesh out. Anyway oxo made this avacado too it cuts, depit and slice. worst device ever. I still have it I might sell it. Waste of $$. It might be nice for some one with physical problems with there hands that don't contain much movement but beyond that I mean it was bad.
Do you guys know that nylon actually was made to resist scratching and tearing? This is one of the oldest products where planned obsolescence was put in place. If you can get a hold of reeeeally old nylon stockings from the 1930/40s they won't rip. But you can't sell loads of stuff like this...
Paraffin candles aren't that much wasteful, because paraffin is a by-product of the oil industry, and not what pushes it forward. Just like lather and the live stock... but I feel what you mean! I've heard of bee wax too, but never the soy one, thank you for the great videos!!
I do not buy seasonal decorations. Ever. I make some bits myself if I feel like it, but all that stuff is just junk and holidays are meant for family time not decor.
Instead of buying plastic personal toys, you could always buy glass toys. I'm horribly allergic to phthalate and the plastic the use in adult toys so me and my husband just buy glass. Its inexpensive and its recyclable because it's just glass.
It is really good idea as well, the only reason why I didn't include glass toys was because I don't have any personal experience with them myself, but 100% more sustainable than battery-driven toys
Even though condoms are made from latex which is derived from natural rubber, it can take hundreds of years for condoms to break down because most condoms aren’t made from 100% natural materials but made with synthetic fillers that, like bio-plastic, will make it act exactly like plastic in a garden compost or in nature. So while it might be true for more natural brands, it is far from a universal certainty 😔
@@Gittemary aw man that's sad to hear haha! Thanks for the correction on that ❤ luckily (also not so luckily) we don't have municipal composting and I'm only learning home composting still so havent composted any myself!

For stockings you Can have a lot at Swedish Stockings, they only produce stockings from recycled old stockings, and they are super resistant, should have a look 😉
Yeah I know of them 😍
Have you heard of the Fertility Awareness method or diaphragms or sustainable contraception?
I'm really interested in sustainable bed sheets but my boyfriend and I really only like flannel sheets. We use them year round and don't use a comforter. Are there sustainable flannel versions available?
Is there a reason you don't recommend glass adult toys? Best choice by far in my opinion.
Not a reason no, glass toys is a great solution as well, recyclable and all 😍
I honestly don’t buy condoms either my partner and I had a serious talk and came to a “we don’t want kids anyways decision” and I got my tubes tide a year after putting thought into it. I want to phase out badly made sheets and blankets Iv been going for the more pricey more well made ones and Iv been proud of how much better I feel in bed.
I love making my own soy based candles! This video was so educational, I loved it!!!
When it comes to bed sheets, is linnen a better choice than cotton when it comes to sustainable production? Water usage etc? :)
Yeah linen is less resource intensive to produce so that is generally a really good choice 🤗🌿
Love that video 🤩! Where did you buy your organic sheets?? Im trying to find now to my new bad
Link in the description 😁✌️🌿
@@Gittemary thanx🥰
I know it's not related to the video, but whenever I hear your "bye" in the outro it really reminds me of the "Hi" from the drag queen Alaska 😄
I 100% understand, it wasn’t on purpose but it’s definitely the same 😂😂
Lovin' your new intro 🙃👌
Honestly,I haven't thought about toys not being sustainable 🤦 sometimes I don't use my brain. I'll have a look on Gaia
sustainability is like a rabbit hole of infomation lol, whenever we start looking into we can dive into the impact of things we never considered before.
You make my mornings
Happy to hear it, this comment made my evening 💚
@@Aphrodite1985007 Don’t worry you didn’t offend me 😁🌿 Your thoughts are completely fair, and yeah it is super silly that we have to mind our words so much, when having a healthy and natural conversation 😅
if were talking about the bedroom...do you have a recommendation for sustainable lube??
To my knowledge coconut oil would be my recommendation
Only use oils, and oil-based lubes if you are NOT using condoms. Oils can dissolve condoms and we don't want that.
if perfume is resource intensive to make is essential oils any better?
Essential oils are also energy intensive to make yeah
I love sleep wear and i really wear and care for it, i enjoy it for years. Same with the quality sheets🙌 love them! But i never buy any sex toy and don't use a condom because i have been in a relationship for 15 years
💓🌱😘
It bugs me that I don't have thrift stores where I live. My mom always always bought second hand clothes. She's a hoarder, she has a serious problem with clothes but anyway. I know there are treasures hidden in there!
UK charity shops never put out stockings. Really anoying
I also want to get IUD, I've been on the pill for some years already and want my stomach intact, so I''ll stop them soon.
I have the iud and it’s really brilliant, don’t have to remember to do anything
Aww you put Jens in your new intro
Yeeees
Im actually so early! love this!
294 Big Bens! 😱
Majority of condoms give me issues, latex or non latex and it was just such an annoying journey to find out what would actually work
latex condoms disintegrate back to rubber, its just the the plastic/foil wrapping that would go to waste
Where are you from?
I am from Denmark 🌿
Condoms are compostable! Not the wrapper obviously but the condom itself is
Even though condoms are made from latex which is derived from natural rubber, it can take hundreds of years for condoms to break down because most condoms aren’t made from 100% natural materials but made with synthetic fillers that, like bio-plastic, will make it act exactly like plastic in a garden compost or in nature.
❤️
🖤
I never liked decorative pillows. I think they are not practical.
They aren't, it's just for decoration
