David Xue for sure. I usually run artifact decks and have synergies that help expedite the transformation such as untapping artifacts, proliferating, or copying the ability. I could understand how it’d be less strong in an enchantment/creature heavy deck but even then, scrying is usually great, and three treasures that tap for any color mana is good for most decks too. I guess I should’ve said I’m more of a casual EDH player, in CEDH it’s definitely too slow.

Conqueror's Galleon is actually easier to flip than you'd expect, especially if you have something like Ensoul Artifact. It doesn't need to connect, it just needs to attack. Then you flip it for a costly, but useful, mana sink that grabs anything you need out of the graveyard. That 6 mana ability is a lot more useful than you would expect, especially if you're running an Unwinding Clock, or Seedborn Muse. Having a means of recurring instants or sorceries from the graveyard, outside of blue, is useful regardless of the mana cost.
It’s only 1 tap draw discard but they don’t go into your graveyard and it is an initial two mana investment which when you do the math is actually INFINITELY greater than zero 😂
I play treasure map in a rakdos demon tribal deck, it has always overperformed. You don't get good ramp in br, scry is also very important to hit those lands and then you get treasures, an extra land and later card draw? Amazing.
I actually love including Thaumatic Compass in my Boros / white decks since that Spires is such a nice defensive land to have after just slamming someone for damage. I wish I could find a good spot or two for Golden Guardian I’ve got it in my Arcades deck since then having it as a normal creature is alright.
I've always seen Azcanta as a blue Sylvan Library - in the right deck. The fact that it puts cards in your grave is basically drawing in a deck like Kess or Muldrotha. And once it flips it's excellent card selection. I bought like 7 of them when they hit roation
Wilderness reclamation makes a few of those on the bottom of y'all's list worth playing. Coping a spell 2 3 4 times can be very nice. Still deck specific.
Growing rites of itlimoc is a little pricey.. but sooooooo good. I want to build an Izzet artifact deck to utilize the artifact version. I love primal amulet in my Kess deck, worth noting that you don't have to cast the spells all on the same turn.... Great job on the video yet again, keep up the good work guys :)
azors gateway is amazing in an artifact untapping deck. Ive flipped it in two turns many times. Looting is under-rated and if an opponent spends a removal card on a 2cmc card you should be happy with that
I use Golden Guardian in my Reaper King deck and it’s awesome. I just have it fight the king and then I get a sweet land that can crank in artifact golems if need be. And those golems can go on to trigger some of my other artifact payouts like Jhoira. Or I can just tap the land for an easy 2 mana. I think it’s a card that can be great, it just takes a pretty specific deck.
Golden guardian Works amazing with Yarok, as Yarok can survive the fight and has deathtouch so the guardian won’t, plus the golem tokens trigger a lot of good effects like elemental bond, kiora the behemoth beckoner and garruk’s packmate for incredible draw value.
I run Legion's Landing, Arguel's Bloodfast, Dowsing Dagger, Conqueror's Galleon, Profane Procession and Azor's Gateway in my Elenda/Legion of Dusk commander deck.
@@NitpickingNerds When I make theme decks, I tend to limit myself to specific sets. Like my House Dimir Commander deck only uses cards with the Dimir Watermark or from the Ravnica sets. So with my Legion of Dusk deck, I went with only cards from Ixalan, although I added Vito from 2021 to the deck since he is obviously a vampire from Ixalan.
Sissay’s ring- 4 mana for something that taps for 2 mana. “That’s totally useless” Golden Guardian- 4 mana for a defender, then you have to jump through hoops to eventually turn it into something that taps for two mana. “That’s awesome!”
I use drowsing dagger in my boros equipment deck, and in my nin the pain artist, izzet artifact deck, with storm the vault, and Vance's blasting cannon is in my mono red, Jaya Ballard, task mage deck

I play Treasure map in my Melek, Izzet Paragon deck, which can really use the scry to help its commander and I play plenty of cards that make treasures, because copying those is great, so it has synergy at every point of the card (ok, I guess proliferate could do one more thing with it). And, you know, when it flips it gives you 3 mana on the spot, plus it always gives you mana from then onwards. For that low cost, it's definetly worth it. In comparison to the ship, this card is insanely efficient. I think even you guys underestimate it.
@@NitpickingNerds The ones I use the most are Itlimoc in my Zacama deck, and Guardian and Storm the Vault in my Breya deck. Thaumatic Compass and Dowsing Dagger are probably the best, since they can slot into any color scheme and have the most general utility. I like Profane Procession a lot, but I feel like I've never gotten enough value out of its repeatability. I recognize Azcanta is a great card, but have PTSD from its time in Standard. I pretty much agree with all the points you guys made. I wanted to leave a comment because I feel like these cards' playability got buried under the luke-warm general reception Ixalan deservedly got for ruining dinosaurs by cramming three other over-represented tribals into the set, and because you reminded me how good Dowsing Dagger is and made me finally see the Utility of Thaumatic Compass. I'd initially overlooked TC in my excitement to make a dinosaur deck, and it's fun looking back on how much my understanding of the game and how to evaluate game pieces has progressed since I got back into the game a few years ago.
My Cat deck has Growing Rites of Itlimoc and my Dragon Deck has Dowsing Dagger. Dagger in dragon is great, anything it is equipped to will fly over most stuff and the plants won't matter. I upgrade my commander precon decks with stuff I got from drafts.

Feline ferocity got things like Adorned Pouncer, Metallic Mimic, Heroic Intervention, Growing Rites, Ajani Unyielding, Vanquisher's Banner, and Pride Sovereign. Draconic Dominion got things like Temur Ascendancy, Dragonlord Atarka, Dragonlord Oujutai, Metallic Mimic, Cascading Cataracts, and Dowsing Dagger. Vampiric Bloodlust got white vampires from Ixalan like Vona, and Bishop of Rebirth, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, Anointed Procession, Blood-crazed Paladin, Mavren Fein, The Mace of the Valiant, and the Metallic Mimic.
I completely agree; these flip lands are powerful. I started snatching them up when they were in standard. I mean, a maze of ith and a cradle? Yes, please.
I find it funny how long it’s taken for growing rites to spike, but now the rest will, I remember when search was worth more than growing rites gishath was 5 bucks and zacama was 10 glad I bought what I did on release when no one gave a crap about ixalan cards in commander except for the oooo 🦖 tribal.
Vance's Blasting Cannons and Treasure Map are in my Pirate deck... because Pirates love blasting things with cannons and are naturally attracted to Treasure. Legion's Landing belongs in any Edgar Markov deck.
Conqureror's galleon is a a lot stronger than you might think. I play it often in my blue deck to create infinite turn loops with cards like time stretch. The key is to make sure you have a commander with 4 or greater power to get the consistency of activating it. Also it's super easy to flip since rarely can anyone kill a 10 toughness creature during combat without using a removal spell. If they had to use an instant speed removal spell on this card then that's a good value for you anyway. The only time I would not recommend this card is if your play group run a lot of land destruction. It does suck to get it flipped when your opponents can just play a wasteland to deal with it.
The compass doesn’t actually ramp you till it flips, however it is solid card advantage. Also, treasure map seems sweet in an elsha of the infinite artifact deck
After the Dragon's Maze box, we need Fallen Empires and Homelands opened to complete the "worst block challenge" (just kidding for some reason those are stupid expensive as sealed product)
Woahhh that would be a really fun draft! Dragon's Maze blows those sets out of the water for power level, but in terms of disappointment none can defeat the Maze

Legion landing is awesome in my tribal vampire deck. Also I use it in my Boro's land destruction deck. Also I am always adding these to get free shipping it the first thing I look for on tcg,eBay card kingdom to get free shipping. I am up to 10 playsets. These are so good! Also always check these to see if they have the blue dye or not. The ones without are still real they were misprints check via loop but also separate and resell them on the misprint group for at least triple what u paid.
Dowsing Dagger and Storm the Vault have been amazing in Dalakos. Azcanta and Primal Amulet put in great work in Kess Legion's Landing provides me with a good token for Rhys, and getting it to flip is not hard at all. Originally it was the cradle, but maybe my luck was bad because people always killed it before it flipped. I don't know why I did not think about it until just this moment. Landing will also fit well in my Kykar.

Compass especially has saved my bacon more than a handful of times (Say no to Commander Damage!). Helps that Maze of Ith wasn't in budget for me haha.
Another thing with Golden Guardian: if someone attacks into you with something big enough to kill it, you can block with the Guardian and fight your own dumb little token and it will still flip. The fight itself doesn't need to kill the Guardian, it just needs to die that turn :D You can also trick block the same way if you have a creature big enough to survive the fight. It's a much more flexible card than people give it credit for.
Treasure Map is OKish in decks that cares about the top (Aminatu, Yennet, Elsha,...). Was also OK in my Korvold deck. A bit slow but 3 manas, draws 3 and 3 +1/+1 counters, count me in !

Was primal amulet from ixalan? Cause that's legit the only flip land I've ever used besides golden guardian in my artifact deck😂😂😂 Forget dagger as well because it's a such a staple I forgot I ever used it.
The only ones I generally don't like are Blasting Cannons and Arguel's Blood Fast. In my Orzhov deck I had to swap out Arguel's Blood Fast for Starlit Sanctum as it was essentially cleric tribal anyway and my love of drawing cards was getting me killed XD
Golden guardian can be used to block or attack lf your trying to get him to transform just leave yourself 2 open mana because he could still die to an opponents creature or an effect, your creature only has to fight it not kill i if you can let other thing do that.
Azors gateway is way better than you give it credit for. Yes of course you have to build around it. I mean they don't even have a version of it in land form. Think gaeas cradle etc. The trick is to play cards like commit// memory that technically have high mana costs. Also if you run sideboard answers main deck with it you can exile the aether gust or barrier breach and find a fresh card for just one mana at any time. And as far as the second side just run some crawling barrens as your win con. Saying you have to build around it is no different than any commander build or deck build or combo. I think alot of the assessments were on point but imo with azor's gateway and primal amulet you were way off the mark. Amulet can combo very very easily. I have built numerous decks around it in historic and it's very solid. (Mythos of illuna targeting the land to ramp and get many copies untapped is broken, regrowth is also amazing for flipping it and then gets back your entire graveyard)
The second gaea's cradle gets banned, itlimoc's price is going to go ballistic. Fingers crossed. On that note, BUY THESE CARDS and buy an extra copy if you can. Double faced cards do Not get reprinted much.
Just found this video and wanted to add this. I currently use the official proxy card in 3 of my commander decks rather than having to move around my 1 copy of Search for Azcanta and am planning to do the same with my copy of Treasure Map. Definitely recommend if you play like 1-2 per deck.
This the first I'm hearing about the compass ixaln flip I know of the green one that adds a green mana for each creature you got. The compass is okay, ramping for 5 mana isn't the best
It's more like ramping for two mana, which is great when the land you get is better than maze of ith. The searching for basics is really just gravy for when you have nothing better to do with your mana or are missing lands!

On the topic of golden gaurdian I would definitely call it fringe and the requirements and wording are cringe however, if you have a sac outlet then you can just pay two and in response to the trigger, sac the gaurdian and you flip it without the need for other complications. As a plus you get your two mana back and late game you have a very annoying factory.
All these are great, but lets not ban land cards guys, coffers can combo with the tomb but theres plenty of 2 card power combos, dramatic sceptre or if thats not enough how about sanguine blood combo? Then we have other mana combos like pili-pala and the vedalken that reduces its cost to generate infinte mana. So any of these minus theyre combo pieces are just kinda deece but devastating with theyre counter part. Kinda like the coffers.
Treasure Map works great for me, especially in my Boros/Mardu deck. To hear 24:22 'it's playable, not exciting', dude, who are you to say this, like it's truth? Ofcourse, there's just opinions, but you should re-evaluate how you formulate your opinions and how you deliver your view, you were even being called out earlier by your co-host in your own show ( 13:06 )... you sound a bit condescending towards cards you don't like, and it's not enjoyable or fun to watch such videos. If you have an opinion, make it worth listening to.
Agree, all of these can be great in the correct deck, but none of them is an auto-include. However, the Thaumatic Compass is terrible. 5 CMC for one basic land, 8 mana for two, and no ramp until turn 6/7. Yes, you get a maze of ith, but quite late, while spending mana to put lands into the hand instead of threats on board. We will always want to have a 2 CMC ramp card over Thaumatic Compass, and there is a lot of colorless options. For example, Wayfarers Bauble, Talismans, Signets, Fellwar, Mind Stone (Ignoring green). There are also plenty of better effects to get lands/ramp, like Sword of the Animist, Solemn Simulacrum, Treasure Map, and Dowsing Dagger. Don't play Thaumatic Compas!
5 Mana to tutor a basic land is no good. Compass is good late game, that is it. Does not ramp early at all. Top side is not really playable unless you are white, even then barely.
I picked up all the flips awhile back thought then they were underrated. Got them all cheap too, my compass is foil also.

I use Golem Guardian in my Traxos deck and it's amazing just how much you can abuse that ability with the right build.

We had the Golden Guardian in more of a fringe spot. Basically Sisay's ring is playable in zero decks, but some decks want Golden Guardian

#110% I run a bunch of these already, and I totally agree with the point that some of them are good enough to lean into when tuning your EDH decks.

Joryney to Eternity is one of the most underrated cards imo. Goes in every one of my decks that runs B/G along with Spore Frog and Final Parting.

Zaxara X Spell deck with Itlimoc and hadana's climb works great. I pump out a lot of huge hydras with +1/+1 counters!

Legion's Landing provides me with a good token for Rhys, and getting it to flip is not hard at all. Originally it was the cradle, but maybe my luck was bad because people always killed it before it flipped. I don't know why I did not think about it until just this moment. Landing will also fit well in my Kykar.

Been meaning to give Dowsing Dagger a whirl. Overall I love these cards a lot. Compass especially has saved my bacon more than a handful of times (Say no to Commander Damage!).
Helps that Maze of Ith wasn't in budget for me haha.
I use the blood fast card in my krrik deck. It pairs well with Phyrexian processor....
Another thing with Golden Guardian: if someone attacks into you with something big enough to kill it, you can block with the Guardian and fight your own dumb little token and it will still flip. The fight itself doesn't need to kill the Guardian, it just needs to die that turn :D
You can also trick block the same way if you have a creature big enough to survive the fight. It's a much more flexible card than people give it credit for.

Treasure Map is OKish in decks that cares about the top (Aminatu, Yennet, Elsha,...). Was also OK in my Korvold deck. A bit slow but 3 manas, draws 3 and 3 +1/+1 counters, count me in !

The only ones I generally don't like are Blasting Cannons and Arguel's Blood Fast. In my Orzhov deck I had to swap out Arguel's Blood Fast for Starlit Sanctum as it was essentially cleric tribal anyway and my love of drawing cards was getting me killed XD

Golden guardian can be used to block or attack lf your trying to get him to transform just leave yourself 2 open mana because he could still die to an opponents creature or an effect, your creature only has to fight it not kill i if you can let other thing do that.
Azors gateway is way better than you give it credit for. Yes of course you have to build around it. I mean they don't even have a version of it in land form. Think gaeas cradle etc. The trick is to play cards like commit// memory that technically have high mana costs. Also if you run sideboard answers main deck with it you can exile the aether gust or barrier breach and find a fresh card for just one mana at any time. And as far as the second side just run some crawling barrens as your win con. Saying you have to build around it is no different than any commander build or deck build or combo. I think alot of the assessments were on point but imo with azor's gateway and primal amulet you were way off the mark. Amulet can combo very very easily. I have built numerous decks around it in historic and it's very solid. (Mythos of illuna targeting the land to ramp and get many copies untapped is broken, regrowth is also amazing for flipping it and then gets back your entire graveyard)
Blood Fast is basically just a cheaper Greed. I'd go for it every time over its predecessor, and it doesn't even need to flip.

Just found this video and wanted to add this. I currently use the official proxy card in 3 of my commander decks rather than having to move around my 1 copy of Search for Azcanta and am planning to do the same with my copy of Treasure Map. Definitely recommend if you play like 1-2 per deck.

This the first I'm hearing about the compass ixaln flip I know of the green one that adds a green mana for each creature you got. The compass is okay, ramping for 5 mana isn't the best
It's more like ramping for two mana, which is great when the land you get is better than maze of ith. The searching for basics is really just gravy for when you have nothing better to do with your mana or are missing lands!

On the topic of golden gaurdian I would definitely call it fringe and the requirements and wording are cringe however, if you have a sac outlet then you can just pay two and in response to the trigger, sac the gaurdian and you flip it without the need for other complications. As a plus you get your two mana back and late game you have a very annoying factory.

All these are great, but lets not ban land cards guys, coffers can combo with the tomb but theres plenty of 2 card power combos, dramatic sceptre or if thats not enough how about sanguine blood combo? Then we have other mana combos like pili-pala and the vedalken that reduces its cost to generate infinte mana. So any of these minus theyre combo pieces are just kinda deece but devastating with theyre counter part. Kinda like the coffers.

Blast canon is worse than outpost siege but somewhat playable in mono red. Galion is complete Garbage: too slow. I like compass and growing rites
Galleon is definitely one of the worst. You need to wait a whole turn and it needs to survive combat :(
Agree, all of these can be great in the correct deck, but none of them is an auto-include.
However, the Thaumatic Compass is terrible. 5 CMC for one basic land, 8 mana for two, and no ramp until turn 6/7. Yes, you get a maze of ith, but quite late, while spending mana to put lands into the hand instead of threats on board. We will always want to have a 2 CMC ramp card over Thaumatic Compass, and there is a lot of colorless options. For example, Wayfarers Bauble, Talismans, Signets, Fellwar, Mind Stone (Ignoring green). There are also plenty of better effects to get lands/ramp, like Sword of the Animist, Solemn Simulacrum, Treasure Map, and Dowsing Dagger.

5 Mana to tutor a basic land is no good. Compass is good late game, that is it. Does not ramp early at all. Top side is not really playable unless you are white, even then barely.
