My mono White deck does just fine with Nyx Lotus, Nyxthos, Horizon Stone and Oath of Lieges. Mono White has a lot of xWW cards so adding mana based on Devotion. Mono White doesn't need to run Land Tax and other land deficient cards.
if your going this reducing land count with bounce lands and lotus field I would recommend putting surveyor's scope in your deck also, if you can get it to trigger for each opponent its an amazing card, also, with weathered wayfarer and a starting land that taps for white, you can go, on turn 2 get flagstones, turn 3 get lotus field, sac the flagstones with lotus field, than turn 4 either get ancient tomb or thespian stage and copy lotus field, so on turn 5 you have up to 8 mana, with just having weathered wayfarer and a plains, yea it does take up all your turns but you arent losing any card advantage while doing this
I am convinced. I run all of those land deficit cards and crucible of worlds in my Bell Borca deck but I didn't have lotus field. I'm replacing a mountain immediately. Thank you, Tomer. This video was very helpful.
Lotus Field is only a tempo loss if you don't tap and use the mana from the sacrificed lands beforehand. It won't work all the time, but even the tempo loss can be mitigated
Even if you use the sacrificed lands for mana beforehand, the Field itself enters tapped, so it can be a tempo loss compared to lands that enter untapped.
@@MTGGoldfishCommander Alright, I see your point now, but there's still these ways to mitigate the loss (or maybe if you have ways to untap it). And in the long run, I feel like this loss would be greatly outweighed by the advantage you'd gain. I really liked these video, lotus field's synergy with white ramp cards is a really nice piece of interaction that it's easy to miss, great content!
I just built a mono white deck with Lotus Field in it a few days ago, and I included it for exactly that reason. Bounce lands, like the new Guildless Commons, or the multicolor ones from original Ravnica, can serve a similar function. Extraplaner Lens exiles one of your Basic Plains, which is usually a downside, but that downside vanishes when you have an Oath of Lieges or a Keeper of the Accord in play. (I don't have Oath of Lieges in the deck right now, but that's a card I'm definitely considering)
This makes me happy :) My favorite thing to do in commander. Turn 1. Weathered Wayfarer. Turn 2. Fetch flagstones. Turn 3. Fetch Lotus Field. Sac flagstones. Ramp. Turn 4. Fetch thespian’s stage. Play it and copy lotus field.
For the crueler among us, it also synergizes well with Winter Orb effects by virtue of being essentially 3 lands in a trenchcoat. Very much worth considering if you're building hatebears or prison style decks.
Good call on Lotus Field. I should note, though, that Scavenger Grounds exiles the Desert that is sacrificed to it, unless you can pull that desert back out of the graveyard before the ability resolves.
I thought I was clicking on clickbait but this is some good stuff. I just saw a Jeskai (or just Boros) combo of using Donate (Harmless Offering) to give an opponent your Price of Glory while you have Sacred Ground (too bad about the opponent's control caveat) out to get Landfall triggers and a large amount of mana. Another under appreciated white card that goes well with the card you mentioned in the video: Burst of Energy.
This holds for bounce lands right? Karoo, the Ravnica bounces in multicolour, the new {C}{C} one from CMR... Obviously they only set you back one land, but with all of them you're going down 4+ lands without losing total mana. But is the tempo swing worth it? (especially Karoo, which requires an untapped plains to be returned)?
I thought about it but decided that I prefer to keep my snow plains count high for Extraplanar Lens instead. It does have nice synergy with Land Tax & friends though.
I run the lotus lands ( lotus field, lotus vale, scorched ruins) in a Gerrard combo deck and it ramps harder than some green decks because of lands like this. My favorite trick is turn 3 lotus vale then tap for a second sunrise for immediate value and ramp
But I've already been running Lotus field in my blue/white deck for 3-5 months now before I anyone told me about it cause it found it while I was sorting through all of the lands in the database.
3 serra paragon 4 thalia, guardian of thraben 4 thalia’s lieutenant 4 champion of the parish 4 knight of the white orchid 4 elite spellbinder 2 mentor of the meek 2 dauntless bodyguard 1 tomik, distinguished advokist 3 brought back 4 path to exile 2 lay down arms 4 lotus field 4 flagstones of trokair 2 mistveil plains 1 idyllic grange 12 plains Try it out and lmk what yould change. First off, lets say i used this turn three, i tap the two lands i am going to sac to cast something. sure it is turn three, but i mean, i have my two mana so that mana can be spent. boom, summon a two drop card that can be used post sac to catch up in lands again.
Hey, It's the Storm land! I do think its good, but you forgot that any effect that can untap a land can untap this and net you more mana, in say a White/Green deck that already has that effect
Not a fan of this in mono white. Emeria is one of the only reasons to be in mono white. This takes you three lands away from it which is what I’d rather work towards. It’s a cute synergy but being one land behind someone at the table is incredibly easy to meet.
I generally really like the content you make, Tomer. You make good points and explain them clearly. I do not like, however, this kind of clickbait-y approach to content creation ("play THIS card"!). Believe me, you don't need that to bring subscribers. Just keep producing quality content. Cheers
Good quality titles and thumbnails are literally what clickbait is. I don't think there should be a stigma against "clickbait," I just want people to watch the videos I work hard on making. Titles / thumbs will never affect the quality of my actual content.
@@MTGGoldfishCommander I'd beg to differ. There's a difference between advertising content by forcing people to watch it before evaluating whether they're interested on it or not (case in point) and letting the content speak for itself (by actually mentioning the card in the thumbnail or description, and keeping the viewer's interest through the actual content). Again, I'm a big fan of your stuff and this is just a suggestion which you can accept or not. But I'd risk saying that not caving to the format of divulging content nowadays - that viewers are training themselves not to be swayed by - might be a bolder way of finding new viewers. Cheers again from a fellow Torontonian :)
I am a skeptic on this idea. Your points have merit but I am not sure there is enough density of cards to help deal with the tempo loss that playing Lotus Field gives to fully warrant it. Granted I still think this is a clever idea and look at fixing some of monowhite's shortcomings in Commander so I don't want to discourage with my seeming lack of wanting to leap onto the bandwagon here. Rather I hope this inspires a future video to discuss at length the struggles monowhite faces in our format and what some suggested ideas might be to give it more oomph on it's own. Finally, no. I will *not* gently caress the dingle dingle. I do not care how nicely you ask, not happening Tomer.
@@MTGGoldfishCommander well maybe if that's what you said in the video, we would be in a different timeline now wouldn't we? I am content on being subbed anyway, I haven't missed anything yet and I do check on this channel with a somewhat regular frequency.
I can see, why you are playing Trokair and Land Tax in every white deck. But in my opinion, Lotus Field is a not an auto include in every white EDH. Especially you dont want to play it in hyper aggro white decks. Where you wanna spent mana as efficiently as possible to beat down the opponent. But except hyper aggro decks and mabe some weird fringe decks you should definetly play it in mono w.
