      I know for a lot of people, it was canceled. I was a long time simmer and so were many of my friends, and after hearing the reviews, I was not interested.
      Then they released the base game for free (in 2017/2018 I think?)
      Then I ended up buying all of the expansions anyways cause the base game had so little gameplay by itself 🙃

      I think it was a combination of things - namely the scrapping of the online model and the rush to put out the game - that resulted in a poor foundation. And now, the team has been pushed to create more packs as quickly as possible to make EA more money instead of being able to fix what's broken. I've given up on it ever being fixed and I'm looking forward to Paralives.

Sometimes I too ma like 'why in the world can I make brick pants with a grass shirt and wood shoes?' and sometimes I am like 'I can make brick pants with a grass shirt and wood shoes!'. Ultimately I can live without it if there's enough variety in the items and their swatches. I do miss skin color slider and the color wheel for hair and eyes.

    I feel like all the best things in The sims 4 are only on the technical side. Of course build & CAS would be better than they were in The sims 2, ts4 came out 10 years later, game engines evolved so much in that period! We all expected those things to be better, it just made sense. But the gameplay did not go along with that... The game just feels like a pretty shell, inside it's empty. You play it for a few minutes and get bored, the sims just feel dull and have no personality. I remember watching the trailers and feeling super excited, but now thinking about the sims 4 just makes me sad :/

    • @sradac
      @sradac 4 ปีที่แล้ว +93

      Sims 4 is really weird. A lot of the EP are legit good. Seasons in Sims 4 is amazing, the snow is beautiful and sparkly, the holidays are actually fun, weather changes. Some people didn't like Cats and Dogs only having...well cats and dogs, but I'm OK with that. Their personalities are a lot of fun, running a vet is expensive but rewarding, and the puppers and kitties are so cute.
      But...the base game and core gameplay just sucks. No soul. No depth. Its so disappointing because they came so close to having an amazing game and just didn't deliver becauae so many little things are so wrong.

    • @CaityRaindrop
      @CaityRaindrop 4 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      If you play rotationally in ts4(I remade ts2 fams and spin round em) their shallow personality system shines glaringly that you realise the traits are essentially random emotion buff generators with no overall effect on their interactions, desires, autonomous actions. This is my biggest problem with ts4. It's a great build/cas(modeling the sim, not its personality) simulator, but a shallow life sim in gameplay

    • @BooDotBoo
      @BooDotBoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Yeah, Sims 4 is always going to win out on so much (outside of gameplay) simply because it's a newer game and things have been upgraded and some things that were simply not possible back then are possible now. However, if all these games came out this year, Sims 4 would be dead last, that's including Sims 1, and that's very sad to think about how stripped down this game would be if it wasn't for the technical side of it. It's so pretty to look at and has made some things much easier, but very little under the hood.

    You and I disagree heavily on the personalities. I understand where you're coming from, but with literally millions of possible trait combinations, Sims 3 wins for most unique sims. I always had fun trying to figure out other sims' traits when my sims met them and they all felt very different from one another. I'd occasionally catch kleptomaniac NPCs swiping things in public areas or evil sims laughing maniacally at random and that always cracked me up. It also let me adjust their natural interests, which is where I felt the Sims 2 lacked (like I wanted a sim to be extra drawn to creative activities but couldn't do that in 2). I absolutely understand where you're coming from when it comes to basic behavior but when you want your sims to have specific interests, Sims 3 is by far the best game for that kind of customization. I do agree about the basic set up being the best in Sims 4 though.

      In sims2 free time you had all the Hobbies and all sims got different hobby they were best at. They also would get more interested with ofc them over time and the "talk subjects" would increase.(i think the talkin system was in base game) That system was awesome, u could see whatev sim likes to talk about and it would show up in their interactions with other sims that might not like that subject that much leading to them dissagreeing and makin interaction negative. And when they talked with someone who also likes that subject they would get stronger relationship boost. Ofc you couldnt choose sims convo subject soo it depended on their characters, and it was awesome, felt very real... I miss it (eng is not my native sorry)

    One of my Uncles actually worked on The Sims 2 early in its development, and when I asked about some of the pre made face templates, he told me their goal was to make unique and diverse facial features inspired by real life nationalities. I believe the most outlandish face (the one with a very wide face nose and mouth) was inspired by the Australian Aboriginal. Along with this, another face was inspired by the New Zealand Maori people. There was even a whole face tattoo in the whole face makeup section that was inspired by the Maori culture. On another note, right clicking on a pre made face template will slowly morph your characters face into it, instead transforming into it completely.

    30:25 actually, romantic sims don’t get a sad moodlet as it states in the description. It gives them a tense moodlet. 🤦🏻‍♀️
    It’s been 6 years and they never fixed it. We have to rely on modders once again to fix that simple mistake.
    I just really hate the personality system in TS4. Yes, CAS is objectively better in Sims 4, but the sims themselves are so shallow. It doesn’t matter what traits you give them.
    Gloomy sims don’t feel the weight of the world on their shoulders. They just occasionally get a sad moodlet. Sometimes I forget that I have given that trait to a sim, so I’m like “oh, i forgot that you’re gloomy”.
    Genius sims sometimes feel focused for a couple of hours. Oh, and they also can get some elusive non-existent “brilliant invention” out of their butt and give it to another sim, for it to be never seen again.
    Loner sims will get a tense moodlet when near strangers, but it can be easily overridden by a “happy environment” moodlet.
    Creative sims get inspired for a few hours.
    Active sims get CONSTANTLY tense about not exercising, even when THEY’RE EXERCISING.
    Cheerful sims are just happy (as if it was hard to achieve in the first place).
    I have a clumsy sim and I’ll be honest, I never seen them to do anything related to their trait. Never seen them trip and fall, they don’t break objects (or they do break stuff, but at the same rate as non-clumsy sims). The most I’ve seen them get is a playful moodlet like “oh I’m so silly I nearly fell” and I’m like “where????”
    Jealous sims, oh my freaking god. I liked this trait because it at least made them feel a bit more like they have a personality. BUT jealous sims will get a tense moodlet the second their SO leaves the room they’re in. Also, jealous sims will get jealous when their partners interact with their OWN CHILDREN.
    My sim with a jealous trait has a husband and two kids and whenever the husband dares to talk to one of their sons, she freaks out. Just..
    I have nothing more to say.
    I’m sorry for my long ass rant but I just can’t with the sims 4. It has so much wasted potential.
    If anything sounds incoherent I apologize, as English isn’t my first language. I just wanted to air my grievances this bad, my grammar just went out of the window.

I never understood why simmers say their sims like potatoes in-game, mine always looked great (I also have my graphic settings up to the highest for the sims and default skin), I think sliders worked well and the ability to customize was so good I could deal with the lag! A couple of the sims in Uni start out "fat" but even if they lose weight and get fit their face will stay the same because the faces do not get fat with the body. Base game is incredibly boring, I only got it because it was free for a while. But when I look at TH-cam videos where the players have all the packs, it still looks incomplete somehow. It's missing personality. It's too sterilised and serious to me.

      Yeah I liked the color wheel but I think it might make more sense to have it as a separate included program like Create a World that would be easier than all the stuff you have to do to make basic CC but would hopefully be more stable and wouldn't lag the game as much. Most of the time I used the color wheel I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to change and often used it more than once (such as the kids bed sheet patterns- those were so cute!). But apparently the sims CAN have a favorite food in the Sims 2, it just only comes out when you take them out to eat at a restaurant. They'll think about their favorite food once they sit down and that's how you know what to order for them. Unfortunately, the only reason I know about this is because the Sim Blender has a function that lets you know their favorite and then change it if you want. Unless you get them the Grilled Cheese aspiration, they almost never ask to eat their favorite food. Still, it is kind of neat for when you take them out to eat.

    I actually think sims 3 is better in terms of character style and customization. I like the realistic look, their eyes have soul, their skin is glowing, and their facial expressions look more nuanced. I LOVE create a style, I loved that I was able to customized pretty much anything to a great amount of detail. I never found the minor lagging annoying bc it was so worth it to customize. I actually don't find the drag and pull sims 4 customization that much better then the sims 3 slider system; often times it's hard to tell how something is moving and you need to be super precise with your mouse which I found to be frustrating. the slider system was more defined and easy to use.

In the sims 3 CAS there was a lot more customization which is awesome and I love it, but I feel like I take too long creating one sim and loading time takes forever for me when changing outfits. The one thing I do wish Sims 2 CAS had are body sliders and being able to pick individual shoes, but I don’t care too much about the shoes. I honestly prefer sims 2 CAS. Obviously, I’m not fond of the sims 3 sims and the sims 4 sims look too cartoonish for me. If the sims 2 CAS had traits like sims 3 that would be the cherry on top for me!

I prefer CC hairstyles though, but some of original looks good and I use them too. As for the Sims 4, sims there are too cartoony and make me feel as they are absolutely shallow. I don't play the Sims 4 at all.
    And I don't play the Sims 2 anymore, but I spent a few years of my childhood there, it was so fantastic to play. Unfortunately, the open world and story progression are something I can't play without, but sims looked pretty good, with CC even beautiful.

Sims 2 had the best sim gameplay in my opinion, Sims 3 had the best neighbourhoods and style customisation, while Sims 4 has the best create a sim (apart from the lack of colour and pattern options), though I'm not really a fan of how the faces move in Sims 4. The sims can look really good, but then the moment they make a facial expression there's just something really off, specifically about the way their mouth moves in relation to their chin, though I can't quite put my finger on it. It's like part of their mouth stays completely stationary even when smiling widely, while only the corners move.

    My Ideal Personality system would have been the personality bars from 1/2 COMBINED with 3 of the traits from 3/4, of course the traits would have to be reduced, since a lot is already covered by the bars, but stuff like cat-lover, vegan, paranoid, kleptomaniac etc, would stay and definitely help further redefine sims' personalities.
    Think of it like 'general behavior and lifestyle' combined with 'quirks and traits'.
    One thing I found iffy with sims 4 is that they got rid of preffered colours, which would have worked great with the clothes swatches :/ but oh well!

    • @dragonscottage9796
      @dragonscottage9796 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh and based on the skins in sims 4. Some people say they should've gone the same route like sims 3, but gradient picker colours are always so 'dull' and the skin looks dead.
      You just have more shades to work with. I guess that's fine for some.
      Sims 4 could have made bank with swatches by actually not making their skins flat recolours of eachother, but instead added realistic skin hues all in one skin. Like you know how some people have countershaded skin? Or gradiented skin, skin that's dark warm brown, but yellowish on the nose etc? Pale skin with a rose undertone but the chest and palms are yellowish?
      I mean, not only would the skins be more realistic, they'd be more realistic, and with proper abstraction, they'd fit in the game just fine too, if not, make it look even livelier.

They added the outfit categories in with the base game patch because if they didn't than people with seasons couldn't download sims from players who didn't have seasons and vise versa. I have to say I think Sims 3 is the best. I have to add a so much default replacements and CC to TS2 in order to just tolerate the way they sims look. With Sims 3, I only added default skin and eyes and a few hairs and I could play the game. I know the sims might not look so great but I learned how to sculpt their faces pretty well. And the personalities are always unique and fun.
    I've gotten back to playing TS3 for a month (maybe more) now and I can't say I miss TS4 at all. I still have TS2 on my computer and I might play that again soon. But I haven't felt the need since TS3 is so engaging.
