Repairing Broadway Limited Imports' M1a Steam Engine-Part 1

I attempt to fix a gearbox problem with my Broadway Limited Imports' M1a Steam Engine that prevents its gears from locking in place and the engine from pulling any cars.
The engine was previously sent to the factory to fix this problem, but several months later, the problem recurred so I attempt to fix the engine myself.

I just bought Broadway limited at a yard sail, no power to the motor, these engines are not cheep, but they seem to have some issues. Waiting for part two. Thanks

If you're able to open the engine up I'd use a multimeter to check if voltage is getting to the DCC decoder and/or motor. Maybe you have a dead decoder? I've still been meaning to fix my engine but haven't had time lately. Back when I made this video I got the engine to run a few loops but then it broke again, and it's sat since then.

They're great while there running. Both of mine have had drive failures. Then again I have over twelve BLi's with drive failures - very disappointing.

Wow! Twelve with drive failures- that's a lot. Did BLI provide parts for you to fix them or were they covered under warranty repair?

More than likely, you have a snapped axle gear. Call BLI they'll ship you new gears from the motor gear down. It's free all you pay for is shipping which for me was six bucks. The model is too old and BLI won't repair it, but like I said they'll send you the parts. Hope this helped.
