This Santa Fe steamer looks and sounds amazing! The tender even has 2 speakers in it. The details are great as well. Find out what the Golden Spike Rating System™ thinks of it in this product review.

I have one, #3888, and what a beauty she is! I painted the side rods to look more like the prototype, and I might give it white wall rims to make it appear fresh from the factory. I've pulled 40 cars with ease with it on level track, but i could probably haul more if I had a bit more track! Mine navigates 18 inch curves with no derailments and no binding, although it is claimed to only be able to run 22s or larger. Very nice review!

The seam along the length of the boiler is supposed to be there. It's where the boiler jacket sheets meet. What is missing are all the tie-bolts also referred to as lagging clamps that hold the sheets together up top and bottom. The rest of the sheets all have a sheet metal hem that engages the next sheet like duct work and straps wrap around to secure and cover all the joints.

They are a beautiful locomotive, with great detail. I have 3 of them in my fleet. I did not have the coupler height or drawbar issue, that may be the drawbar was damaged in packaging. My beef is over time the main driving gear will go on you, which is quite a task to replace. Also the sounds are not right. Suggest switching over to an ESU #5 decoder.

We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area in CA, but have traveled to OR recently so it's possible we crossed paths. Thanks for watching!

+tsgmultimedia so my engine does not have the rear headlight. but has the backup light. it also has a different step ladder in the rear. would this mean that my engine 3888 was a road engine when the real one was in service?

great review Dan. but there one thing I don't understand, why is there traction tire.

We wonder the same thing very often. Traction tires are not allowed on many model club layouts, and manufacturers do not offer models like this without the tires. WTF!

Was this engine an oil burner?

Maybe the tender could provide a clue.
