The S1 had serious adhesion issues IRL since only half of its weight(without the tender) was pressing on the driving wheels, which may explain the slow start. Ideally you want most(atleast 3/4’s)of a steam locomotive’s weight pressing on the driving wheels
some other comenters have pointed it out in the past, but the AI (or Lazerjet himself) is just shit at setting up the S1 which doesn't have these problems for other users
actually, it hasn´t been that much of a problem, matter of fact, it had similar adhesion to the later q2 duplex
The S1 is like the steam equivalent of the bullet train

The S1 was 140 ft long, the longest steam loco ever built, it had 7200 hp, and was rumored to go 156 mph.

It was the longest yes but Big Boy is the biggest ever built and had more driving wheels. S1 just had a longer tender

While the S1 is problematic because of its size and serious wheel slips, it’s still an amazing train for its speed and streamlined.
the 6-4-4-6 wheel arrangement has a huge design flaw
Interesting that the NYC Dreyfuss Hudson beat the Mallard in one of your races and in your American steam race, the S1 just about finished close to the Hudson. So, I am surprised that the S1 lost.

The S1 is great, it's just too large to be practical.
No. It's not. It's built for speed & power, unlike mallard, which is more on the speed side of things.

She was retired in 1946, and scrapped 3 years later.
Very strange that the S1 lost. It does go 250kph
It has a slow start due to uneven weight distribution on her driving wheels so that explains the slow start.

Apparently PRR were fined for going 135mph - 155mph. Using a watch and timing distance between stations is legitimate way to measure speed.
Hi lazerjet I’m a huge fan I love your videos and streams
You say that American steam locomotives are big and those in the UK are small, I will agree with that. But you also have to consider "why" they were bigger in the first place. The US cover MUCH more land than the UK and therefore larger engines are used to get things done.

@@oliverwinsper9455 I don't see why people proceed to add *American locomotive are not as Stylish* Of course Not, They were all Built for Fright hauling In tough Conditions, Of course they are going to have So many pipes, air compressors,Valve gears being exposed.
@@oliverwinsper9455there are a few that are quite beautiful. The challenger being one of them. You also have to factor in the fact that US built locomotives weren't built for style they were built for hauling freight not passengers, no need to be stylish or fancy.

To be fair, I'm an American, and I personally think the UK has better engines than us. And this video proves it. So, A4.

But just because a video or game shows you something, it doesn't mean it's true. The S1 has a slow start to it, but it's faster than the marllard

The programming never gives the S1 a fair chance. It usually shoots off like a rocket whenever I’m driving it

By a long way, I'd have to choose mallard, I mean it is my 4th favourite train (3rd: city of turo, 2nd: tornado, 1st: flying Scotsman
S1 would win if driven by player and not AI. I was in beta testing team and did the screenshot for website.
This Steamer really has some serious speed to it hitting even 168mph on my tests and often being at 152-156mph on NEC (Washington-Baltimore)

Lazerjet, could you please run these locomotives at a more realistic power rating? %125? Really? You would find that it is much more interesting when these engines are running at realistic speeds. Just a thought.

The Pennsylvania railroad was actually fined for going 152 mph in the S-1, but nobody seems to care about that.
@@knightryder6068 its just that the s1 had a slow acceleration than the mallard
@user-jh6ik1qd7p acceleration doesn't matter. It's the top speed of the engine that actually matters. And Mallard was going downhill with a tailwind anyway.

@@user-jh6ik1qd7p good question... probably because the British railway systems were so busy (not) that they built a dynamometer car to measure the speed. The S1's was never perfectly run on a dynamometer car, it was simply a speeding ticket they'd received.
