WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) vs Normal Stockfleth Move - Espresso Distribution Techniques

This is a shot by shot comparison of the 2 different techniques. The equipment being used is a Mazzer Super Jolly grinder, a Pullman Big Step X Cat & Cloud tamp, and a Nuova Simonelli Oscar that has been modded with an OPV, and anti-vac valve, and a few other cosmetic mods. The coffee bean being used is Cat & Cloud's "The Answer" which was about 1 week out from its roast date.

Nice work man, #WDT4life. I would also argue that WDT also helps a lot when you're working with home-caliber equipment, to help compensate vs. commercial equipment. Good cafes can get away without it because they have really nice grinders and machines.

Good demonstration, there's still a few more methods of distribution. An OCD or Jack leveler among others have shown good results. One of your contemporaries found that comparing four methods the highest extraction was from the good old three taps a finger swirl and tamp. One popular channel has gone to only a Jack leveler and no tamp. Simpler is better.

Isn't the doser in your grinder already breaking the clumps? I think it's the only reason to prefer such a grinder (for home use) over a doserless one...

If anything, it's creating them. The grinds come out in intervals and the doser is pushing them slightly off to one side, creating a bit of compaction against the chute as well as favoring one side of your basket.
In most cases a hand-grinder like the Lido ET is going to give you a much more even grind over many electrics until you use something like the Niche Zero. Hand grind, then WDT, skip the Stockfleth, use a leveler, skip tamping except in special cases. That will make for the most consistent extraction.
