The lead singer, Caleb Ginyard is my grandfather. I am the youngest daughter of his oldest daughter. Unfortunately, I never got to meet him due to estrangement in my family but at least I get to see him this way. RIP Grandpa!

Did some research on these awesome guys. They're from Jacksonville, Florida and have been cranking out tunes since 1933 at any gig they can get. They actually started working professionally after getting arrested singing outside for disturbing the peace, and then singing for the judge and the Mayor in court, who decided to back them financially. The group grinded it out, traveled north to Philly and New York and finally made it big in the mid-40s when they got a daily slot heading Arthur Godfrey's daily radio show, and other radio shows, including 'Amos & Andy.' ----- That great guitarist is Everette Barksdale and is a member of the group (they also added a pianist from Brooklyn, Smiley Trotman, soon after this video was made). The singers didn't read music and never took a lesson, it was all feel. They rehearsed many hours per day and by the mid-40s knew over 600 songs. They were so popular at this point that the Jubalaires had trouble with their radio bosses, who didn't want to allow them off the air to go off on a big tour. The group won the battle, went anyway and were recording hit after hit record. To keep things together, the whole group and their families lived together in one giant house. They also appeared in the 1950 film "Duchess of Idaho" and are seen in the trailer on TH-cam.

    • @justinwilliams1626

The last person I can confirm to have died was the singer far right, Theodore “Ted” Brooks. He was also the lead in Noah. Anyways he apparently passed away in 1997. Was born July 4, 1915. The lead singer in this Caleb Ginyard. He was born in 1908 according to records, but 1910 according to him. Reportedly a native of Brooklyn, New York, He passed in 1978 in Sweden, where he had taken up residence in the early 1970s while still performing shows in Europe. The fortune teller was also a famous comedian, later ostracized by Hollywood in the 50s and 60s because of his minstrel style humor. He later was forgiven, a product of his time, and got some work in Adam 12, and some Bill Cosby and Rob Riner programs. He died of a long time illness in 1973. I’ll post his name later when I find it again. This clip is from the 1947 film Ebony Parade. Back to Ted Brooks, there is a state of Florida archive that has a 1983 interview with him and Willie Wright, a fellow gospel singer who sang with Ted in a group preceding the Jubalaires. I’ll try and post the link later. So cool to hear Ted talk about his adventures singing in the 30s and 40s.

    Lyrics I think:
Me and brother Bill went hunting in the woods in the eastern Maine
The reason why we went up there we thought we could catch some game.
Me and brother Bill went hunting way in the middle of the night
We shot at somethin' like a grizzly
Bear and the doggone thing turned white
Ohh we dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
The way I run across that field they
Couldn't catch me with an automobile
I dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
The way I run across that field they
Couldn't catch me with an automobile
Me and brother Bill went hunting in the woods in the eastern Maine
The reason why we went up there we thought we could catch some game.
Me and brother Bill went hunting way in the middle of the night
We shot at somethin' like a grizzly
Bear and the doggone thing turned white
Ohh we dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
The way I run across that field they
Couldn't catch me with an automobile
My brother Billy got so excited he really took a shot at me
That bullet 'doozeled' past my ears and 'zizzled' through a tree
I was run so fast I was exhausted, my feet was banging the ground.
I said look here big feets do your stuff because I'm Alabama bound
Ohh we dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
The way I run across that field they
Couldn't catch me with an automobile.

L-R: John Jennings, Caleb Ginyard, George McFadden, Ted Brooks.
    Lyrics:
Man: Mnn Mable Lee, what are you doing back here?
Mable Lee: Well I have an old favorite that I'd like to see.
Man: You like to see, what is that?
Mable Lee: Brother Bill with The Jubalaires.
Man: Ohhh Brother Bill with The Jubalaires, ha ha! No quicker said than done
Me and brother Bill went hunting in the woods in the eastern Maine
The reason why we went up there we thought we could catch some game.
Me and brother Bill went hunting way in the middle of the night
We shot at somethin' like a grizzly bear and the doggone thing turned white
Ohh we dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
The way I run across that field they couldn't catch me with a automobile
I dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
The way I run across that field they couldn't catch me with a automobile
Me and brother Bill went hunting in the woods in the eastern Maine
The reason why we went up there we thought we could catch some game.
Me and brother Bill went hunting way in the middle of the night
We shot at somethin' like a grizzly bear and the doggone thing turned white
Ohh we dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
The way I run across that field they couldn't catch me with a automobile
Brother Billy got so excited he really took a shot at me
That bullet 'doozeled' past my ears and 'zizzled' through a tree
I run so fast I was exhausted, my feet was banging the ground.
I said look here big feets do your stuff because I'm Alabama bound
Ohh we dropped that gun and away I run
Brother Bill said boy what's the matter with you?
Well had he known like me he'd've run some too
I run so fast to say they couldn't catch me all-day
