B Category Has Gone COMPLETELY INSANE!

- Second race in a row with extremely crazy effort right from the start. Looks like all the B riders are returning into Zwift after good summer training. Can I compete among them?
Sorry for the bad audio, I forgot to put the mic in front of my face. I transcribed what I was saying into subtitles to compensate.
My name is Adam, I am 35 years old and I am a former marathon runner who shifted his focus on ZWIFT CYCLING.
Road to A is a channel focused on INDOOR ZWIFT RACING with the ultimate goal of reaching the A+ CATEGORY. Is it progression realistic? Maybe. I'll need to train a lot and lose a lot of weight, too. However, I believe the BIGGEST LIMITATIONS riders (and athletes in general) have are those they put on themselves and this channel is my way to prove that idea. If you feel like you are riding (or living) BENEATH YOUR POTENTIAL, you need to tag along! The destination is clear but the journey won't be easy.
Currently I am racing in B CATEGORY.
SUBSCRIBE because it makes me happy :) : / @roadtoa
As for my ZWIFT SETUP - I am riding on a ZWIFT HUB ONE indoor trainer. Steering can give you pretty substantial advantage during the racing and for that I am using the ZWIFT PLAY controllers. I use these for virtual shifting as well and to make sure I'll be covered if they run out of battery or generally stopped working, I've got the ZWIFT CLICK as well. I am running my Zwift in 4K and using the ULTRA settings.

Your fitness has impressed me. We started about the same level maybe 6-9 months ago, I bumped to B just after you. I over did it and took a break and had to sort of start over and you have continued to rise. Well done! Love your videos.
Thank you very much! You'll be back in no time.
This content is so refreshing i didn’t even know this existed! Subbed an I hope youre content gets alot more popular!
Thank you very much, welcome!:)
Soooo close to staying on, I thought you would just be OK but they pushed the pace twice unlike the first lap.
If you managed another 30 seconds I think you would've at least been in the group to the end. Great effort as you're far better than me at the moment 💪🏼💪🏼
OH PS I love the Topography map showing the elevation changes (as that's usually where the action happens)
@@scottmccann4509 yea, but the effort was so high I just couldn't go with them anymore, I even tried to sprint-catch them but it was over.
I guess we are on the same page, my goal is also to hit the A-group. Around 3.8 now, but without 4 it's really hard to race in the front😅 nice content, will subscribe!
man you have improved a lot since I first started watching you.
❤️ thanks!
It may also be A’s returning after summer riding that have dropped down a Zwift Cat but are still basically A riders - that will push the pace of plenty a B race 😂
Well done, certainly left nothing out there 👍 Getting dropped is a painful place, we’ve all been there - and prob will again next race 😂
@@zwifting yea, that's what I figured. The after-the-summer categories will be definitely tough for this reason (well, until the racing score gets released that is).
I like the elevation graphic, it's helpful.
@@scottblunt5897 thank you!
how do I get this elevation to show.
@@DoWorkCycling it's added in post production.
Lots of red!!! Great race, definitely tough
Red is the color of this August.😅
@@RoadtoA and the color of wealth in some cultures!
Could you make a video of your saddle height, saddle setback and cleat position in relation to the first metatarsal?
@@DevelopingNL I will go for a bike fit, so it might make the most sense to do something like that afterwards.
Strong race! You were was faster than me and half the A riders yesterday
This was a crazy group though, I drafted a lot.
@@RoadtoA true. I was dropped after the first climb and rode solo for most of the rest
@@rasmusnielsen3386 crazy!
You have the fitness to stay with that group on that route over the top. Look up fade climbing for those punchy efforts of short hills. If you were to sling shot into the bottom of the hill up to the front of the group opposed to chasing up from the back, it gives you a small boost to help you pop over the top closer to or within the middle of the pack at the same effort. Then instead of hitting it hard to close a gap at the top, you can settle into the draft more quickly. Takes some practice to get it down, but once you do, you’ll make large gains on your ability to stay with stronger groups through punchy races.
Thank you for the tip, I'll look it up!
I raced the same course in the B's yesterday. 10 of the top 15 finishers had over 4w/kg for 20min power in their ZP profile. Several were 4.2-4.3.
@@ColoCX I don't remember it being like that pre-summer though. Or I have a bad memory. 😄
I was around 4.3w before I got bumped up to A did a big effect up epic KOM and got a new ftp estimate. But I think a lot of riders try to stay in B. Because there’s very long between wins in A when some riders can do 6.2w for 20min 😅 maybe if there was a A and A+ so a 4-5w an 5+
@@raunefare I think the new racing score will solve this!
@@RoadtoA its at least more transparent how good you’re because it’s more on how you place in the races. I love the zwiftracing site because you can see before the race what their race score/best watts. and if someone is semi pro so you don’t try to follow them up the climbs xD and the estimated placing after the race. So if you come 10th you can see that you’ve suppose to have come in 15th. It makes it more fun to race even if winning isn’t happening that often. But I’m already in the diamond cat. But only just so I still have to race the plus 6w pr. Kg guys with the new race score 😅
55 TSS for near 27min , solid 👌
@@lukamalic486 at least it works as an efficient training 😂
Hi, watching your experience sometimes. That steering action animation on screen. Is this also post production?
@@ivodam2 you mean that red thing when I'm "hitting" the rider next to me? That's in game for a few weeks now!
Hi love ur videos, how do you get the race gradient profile on zwift while racing? It would be so handy to have
Thanks! That's added in post production.
Nice riiiide ! I have a question how you have this map overlay and high ? :)
That's added in post.:-)
I think just so many people are weight doping in cat B.
Some of them probably do but that doesn't explain why are they in B does it?
@@RoadtoA idk man… im a racer irl and can keep up with a pretty high lvl of riding here in belgium. But in cat B i always end up in like the 2nd pack…
hell im probably even weight doping by a few kg’s myself. I probably gained a kg or 2 since i put in my weight but that wont really make a massive difference i guess
@@SyLens1 What I meant is if those guys were weight doping, they would ride better than normally, but that should, ideally, put them into A.
@@RoadtoA A just must be too hard for them still. But it should he up to zwift to fix it. I can imagine that they’re gonna have a hard time in A
I find this course pretty hard with the hills
@@doomguyzwifting right? Without the hills the hilly route would be pretty nice!
Got be a little punchier…get that 1 min read up to like 6.5 and you’ll stay in the front easier…these short races are all about punch…
You're right!
In Belgium we say: if you don't want to listen, you should feel... by the way, your clothes suit you really well...
Hehe, I know, I know.
But honestly, the shifting is the least of my problems. The effort level is just too high for me now.
@@RoadtoA This is not about shifting Adam..
Look try it out, in a race like this put your trainer on 45% and your chain on your big ring 50 and at the back 14, find and try until you don't lose the group anymore, I'm sure you will win a race soon...looking forward to it!
@@frannyyarina Franny, I use virtual shifting. Can't do that. For me trainer difficulty is really only about the frequency of shifting, nothing more. Still have to put out the same power. (that goes for everyone, lower trainer difficulty doesn't make the race easier in other way that you don't need to shift as much - if it did, it would be cheating)🙂
@@RoadtoA Yes, but Zwift itself is to blame for that, haven't you experienced after the last update of Zwift that you can no longer join your group?! It has changed completely, just try it for a test...
@@RoadtoA It isn't cheating, but it does help. Especially if your riding style is more 'diesel' where you are most comfortable holding a consisent power output. I am very much in this category, and found that hitting a hill and 'spiking' power, before changing to a more comfortable gear would disrupt my 'feel'.
Since setting trainer difficulty to 10% my performance has improved 5%. That's the good news. The bad news is that because of this I am now in the A category, which is very spicy. It isn't only that the overall average is 4+ (with some guys for these 20-30 min races exceeding 6) but then the A peloton goes full gas it's a proper elite level 'surge'.
Don’t worry. They will all get moved to A cat soon.
@@applenutt1 or to a higher category within the new racing system!
How can I integrate the elevation layout?
@@peterm4969 it's added in post processing for viewers. Not possible to do in-game (well, you kind of can with a plugin called Sauce for Zwift but it's so so).
IMHO, you shouldn't follow trends as far as cleat position or any other bike adjustments. It is essential that you get a professional bike fit. This will minimize chances of injury and increase comfort. Just FYI.
@@rkclime4 I have professional bike fit scheduled!
Well worth the money!
@@rkclime4 I got a good price for two bikes so I can get a fit both on my gravel Zwift bike and my new road bike. 2in1!
@@RoadtoA Awesome, I been riding for a long time and I got it done last year and wished I would have done it when I was younger. 😸
How do you get the elevation map on? I hate when you ride on zwift, but you cant see when the elevation is coming
@@Eddie-Muns0n unfortunately that is added in post processing. Soon there should be an UI update in Zwift that would show this.
@@RoadtoA i hope so. I know thats a thing many is angry of. Such a Big Company, making it more expensive for ushers. But cant even make a good mini-map, who show you the elevation you are Racing on the Road, or race, you are riding

Yeah, in those official race series, 4 watt/kg is required. 3.5. - 3.6 with a decent sprint is all that's required to place in random races.
