  • Mozart 100 2024. My hometown race. Overall it's the fifth year I've been participating in this competition, but always different distances. This year I wanted to conquer the longest of all races: the 105km distance. And I really thought I could. Even up to the last minutes.
Check out this video to find out what happened to me during this ultra race. I didn't see it coming. But I guess the races that kick you in the butt, you learn the most from. So I definitely learnt a lot from this one and the mistakes I made.
If you'd like to see more of the event organization, check out my Mozart 100 video from 2022 and 2023. In 2023 I completed the 80km distance successfully and the weather was great! Highly recommend this video.
Overall, it was a fantastic event - as always! Great organization and execution!
Congratulations also to all the finisher of the 2024 Mozart 100 races! It really couldn't have been more difficult!
Let me know if you have any questions or you also competed at Mozart 100 2024! Love to catch up and share experiences.
Thanks for watching! It's very much appreciated. :)
In case you're wondering what shoes I wore that helped me not to the get injured in these conditions... the ASICS TRABUCO MAX 3!
    Review video definitely coming soon!

That was a tough day. That freezing side wind in the mountain uphill almost killed all. Almost 70 DNFs in the next checkpoint says everything. You did great with 88km, I screwed it in km 50.
    Salzburg 2025, the revenge 👊🏼

My knees and hands were hurting from the cold. I couldn’t fuel for a bit cause my mouth was so numb. That was a very hard section. Hopefully you will have a better run next time!

10:48 when you say it wasnt much, i think you totally missed the hardest part. It was not going up, but coming down from Koppl. Not sure you would have seen it anyway because they rerouted part of the race, but coming down from there... you had to cross some rivers coming down on tree roots, there was so much water... ankles were twisting left and right 😅

I heard that it would have gotten a lot worse. Crazy conditions!

Took me about 14h and change to finish the race and I don’t understand how can you say that it was really good job from organizers, it’s beyond me. Absolutely zero preparation for the weather, non of the aid stations had shelter, place to worm up or anything like that. I found a shelter at the 3rd aid station in some farmers garage and layered up, probably this move saved me. I saw people quitting and still had to wait outside in the rain for the buses for few hours. There was only one place in the second aid station to fill up the water ONE tap and probably 100 runners. St Gilet had no place to sit even :D. Lots of people take ultra running as a hype that was clear, vast majority was underprepared.

Great job on your finish! Especially in that time and those conditions. 💪
Now that you mention it, i have to agree with you on the shelter situation. I had to take shelter in some storage room. It wasn’t even warm and almost no space to sit. Some Ultra races I’ve done in the past had tents with heating lamps, even when the weather was actually good. This would have helped a lot of runners that day. ( or all )

@@chris.schmied It probably would have helped you a lot. I was 17th at the one moment and started to shake just like you, had 15 km till finish, wanted to quit, but guys at the aid station said I have to wait for a bus maybe 1,5h, so I figured it was about the same to finish. There was no shelter by the way! So i filled my two bottles with hot tea and wrapped my self in the safety blanket! That’s haw i got to the finish.. Good God what a nightmare that was, still shaking.

Definitely would have helped. Just need to look forward now. Hope you also have another race this season you can hopefully enjoy :)

I know it must have been tough to being close to the finish but still far. It happened to me not long ago with a shorter distance (42km 2800+) when I had only left 10k to go but I had to pull the plug. Weather was very hot that day, wish I had some rain hehe.
Hope the recovery went well and go back to your regular training. Sure next year you will redeem yourself.
    Cheers!

Respect for the effort! I made it to 32km where i missed the cutoff, due to underestimating the mud. I was freezing my butt off too. It looks like you could have profiteered from warmer clothes right off the start! I know i needed more insulation and rainprotection definetely.
Anyways, see you there next year!

I did 80k in T-shirt with waterproof jacket on. Somehow I was never cold, only problem was when I broke my pole on first descent, because I always run with poles. It was harder after that, but managed under 11 and half hours. Last part that you didn't have to run was really sketchy and dangerous. Slippery, narrow trail with raging water below...

    • @leonda4817
      @leonda4817 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@sip5123 the 80km were the last 80km of the 100, right? I heard they installed a rope after nockstein, that's how bad it was!
Did you have warm pants at least?
I hope i never break my poles! Beware of the carbon, the splinters are very nasty and i was told they can cause cancer.

@@leonda4817Yes and by looking at the footage first 20 wasn't that bad, it only got worse with every hour and kilometer. Crazy that they let smaller distances even start.
I've had my thighs I've used all winter, maybe running in snow helped.😅 But they were totally soaked very soon, I need to get something waterproof.
Thanks for the warning about carbon, luckily it was a clean break and I've already ordered new ones.

Great video again Chris, sorry to see the DNF, but as a first time Mozart Light runner this year, even on our bit of the course the mud and conditions were unbelievable, downhills were so difficult, and it was a long time to be out in those weather conditions. - good to see you in good spirits at the end a few days later, despite the DNF thats an amazing distance on that terrain - maybe see you there next year as well!

Hey. I finished the Mozart100 and it was the hardest race I've ever finished! I also felt cold and it takes me 5 - 10 minutes after every aid station to feel warm again. All the best, I hope you feel well again, Hannes
