Congratulations, great job on covering your race experience. A video on your thoughts afterwards would be cool, to hear you reflect on training and gear used, what you might do differently etc…again congratulations 🤙🏽
Thanks a lot! That would be a good video. I have definitely learned alot these past races. I probably will make such a video. Thanks for the recommendation :))
@@chris.schmied Hi Chris, I'm 63 and it was my first ever running event ..absolutely loved it ! Luckily had done some serious hill training and that paid off. Finished with a time of 5:24:00 and very happy. Already booked the hotel for next year. Cheers, keep the videos coming and have fun ! PS Let me know if you are ever down near Wörthersee running.
Great video Chris, good to see the whole course during daylight. I took a bit longer and ran the last part in the dark. Funny to see myself in your video at the start (white cap, blue shirt, GoPro in hand). I was a great atmosphere and you showed it well. Kudos also that you do this shortly after another 100k
Hey thanks a lot! Yes I saw you at the beginning. I hope you had a good race. It was definitely a challenge, since it took a few weeks to recover after Istria.
Great job, Chris! Great views and landscape! I might have a go next year. Your pace and time were incredible..especially after the istria 100. Congratulations on this big achievement. Looking forward for the next challenge! 🙂💪💪💪 PS: have a good recovery :)
Thanks for your nice comment!! It was a beautiful race. I can definitely recommend it. My next big challenge will definitely be in 2024. Hope to see you next year in Salzburg :))
Thanks for showing us around the beautiful corners of Austria along this course. How you compared this one to Istria? Seems here the climbs are more tough. Great job and hope you had a good recovery. Cheers!
Glad you liked it! The climbs “seemed” tougher. I did barely any climbing on the weeks leading up to the race. So maybe I wasn’t as fit. But yes, the course was 4300+m on 81km. Istria was 110km and 4100+m.
Thanks a lot!! Took me 13 hours I think…? Need to check again. But I was going easy most of the time and therefore could keep a decent pace. (Not much walking, except when hiking uphills) At the beginning you will have some steep climbs. Towards the end you can run a lot if you still have reserves. I could improve a lot on my downhill running. That’s when I got passed the most. I’m sure you can do it :)
Great job on doing the Ultra with that breathtaking scenery. Maybe someday i will manage to achieve something like this. If you don't mind me asking, what shirt is this, I love the design. Looking forward to your next insane adventure. :)
Thanks a lot! I’m sure you can do it. It just depends on how much you like it. I love being in the mountains. The T-shirt is by Millet, a French mountaineering brand. They have a lot of shirts w mountain sketches on them. They are super comfortable and really functional.
Great videos! And thank you for getting some film of the aid stations! It helps me to have an idea of how they are set up. Ive been training with the Naak products in hopes of not having to carry as much of my own nutrition. Do you know, do they have the energy drink at every station? And are they mixed full strength? Im running Istria in less than two weeks!
Thanks a lot!! Glad you like the vids :) I think they had energy drinks at almost every aid station. They come in cans, so they are not mixed. Good luck in Istria! It’s a great race. I will go back there one day again :)
Replying back in case anyone else is interested. Finished the Istria 110k, was a really nice event and it went really well! My strategy was to get about half my calories from food and half from the Naak drink mix at the stations. For the most part it was okay. As I expected the solution was diluted to about half what Naak says to use, which was fine since I wouldn't want it too strong. Towards the end though I think they were running low and the concentration was way down. What was worse is that at the last two stations the lemon flavor tasted as if it was contaminated with the savory broth flavored Naak powder which was nasty. Not the best way to finish off the day but it didn't really factor in my result as I had enough gels to carry me through. Overall a great event that I would highly recommend!
@@chris.schmied Sorry to hear that! Well, i had to DNF too. In Tiefbrunnau, 32km. I missed the cutoff time, because the mud slowed me down way more than expected. I paced reasonably from the beginning (~6:00 min/km, flat terrain), then lost maybe 10min in the traffic jam in glasenbach, at the first singletrail. Beeing at the back of the pack, all the singletrails were a huge mess already. However I did fairly well and only after Hof-aidstation i realized that the cutoff could be dangerous to me. Filbling-mountain was a complete disaster then and i had huge problems with the mud. It was barely walkable and i lost so much time, despite feeling fit and motivated. The cold wind was really harsh and i have to admit that i was ill-prepared and freezing pretty badly. I slipped out in the mud and had a crazy calf-cramp! Then i arrived too late and got drawn out of the race. Half of the runners there where surprised they didn't even make the cutoff, because they felt they were doing ok for a 100k race. The cutoff was pretty unfair IMHO, as the 5 hours are reaonable for good conditions, but more on the tight side. Mid-pack runners who paced conservatively/reasonable in the beginning didn't make it that day. If anything, the cutoff in tiefbrunnau tempted people to rush the slippy downhill down. Anyways, it was a great experience nonetheless and i learned a lot! As a consequence, i bought some quality raingear from compressport and merino socks and longsleeves. I'm now motivated to train in the rain, which i tended to avoid previously. Another upside is, i get another year of good training before finishing my first 100km race. So i can aim for a good time, while having a good time ;) How was the race for you?

Your video really got me! So emotional- especially in the end. Awesome how you pushed through! Congrats!
Thanks a lot!! Ultras can be emotional. That’s what it comes down to: How to find yourself and push through.
Love this! 👏🏼 Well done!
Great job, nice video: thanks! (You like saying "yeah" a lot, though.)
Thanks a lot!! Ok noted…will try to say it less in the next vids :))
Awesome job Chris 👍 I did the marathon and am in awe at the elevation and distance the Ultra competitors raced, Well done!
Thanks! How was the marathon? I wish I could run all distances on the Mozart. (Not at once of course lol)

Thanks a lot!! Was nice meeting you too. Hopefully we will meet in another race one day :))
Congratulations mate!!

Hallo Chris! Super Leistung! Folgt nächstes Jahr dann der 100er? 😉
Vielen Dank! Nein wahrscheinlich nicht. Hab für nächstes Jahr andere Ultras geplant.
Nice work!

Thank you! I know I said energy drink, but I actually meant the powdered mix from Naak?
Oh sorry. I don’t know if they do. Maybe write them an email and ask them. The organizers are usually very helpful with information like this.
