Personally I think the reason people think that aromantic people will be sad and lonely is because society sees a happy person being someone who is in a loving relationship and has kids. I’ll admit when I first heard the term I felt a little bad for them because I thought that they would never get to experience the same happiness that others do. However now I understand that there is no reason to feel bad for them. Their happy and spend so much time living with their friends! So of course they would be happy! I recently realised that I'm aromantic. It all explains how I never felt any connection with anyone and just thought that a romantic relationship is basically best friends who have sex lol and when I see them as best friends, I cannot really have the urge to develop physical intimacy with them and the whole thing was just a big fuck up. I know it sounds silly and I ruined about 5 healthy relationships with beautiful men, because I couldn't relate to their ideas of love or romance. I know better now. I feel a lot lighter because I finally realised that it wasn't because of my mental health issues but because I'm not meant for relationships like that.
Same! I accidentally led someone on and couldn't wrap my head around it when they got upset because I didnt meet certain of their needs. It's just cause I'm aromantic and their needs they needed had to do with romance. We had a bad falling out and they blamed it on me, which I cant disagree, though I was just as confused as them.

I'm asexual and aromantic, but I wouldn't mind having sex or being with someone who is romantic. I feel like people forget that asexual and aromantic doesn't always mean you don't want sex or romance, it just means you aren't attracted to others in that way.
You can want sex without being attracted to other people in a sexual way.

I recently realised that I'm aromantic. It all explains how I never felt any connection with anyone and just thought that a romantic relationship is basically best friends who have sex lol and when I see them as best friends, I cannot really have the urge to develop physical intimacy with them and the whole thing was just a big fuck up. I know it sounds silly and I ruined about 5 healthy relationships with beautiful men, because I couldn't relate to their ideas of love or romance. I know better now. I feel a lot lighter because I finally realised that it wasn't because of my mental health issues but because I'm not meant for relationships like that.
Same! I accidentally led someone on and couldn't wrap my head around it when they got upset because I didnt meet certain of their needs. It's just cause I'm aromantic and their needs they needed had to do with romance. We had a bad falling out and they blamed it on me, which I cant disagree, though I was just as confused as them.
