I watched multiple videos, but could not connect my ATEM Mini to my laptop via LAN and my Router. I followed tim's instructions and now it works! Thanks Tim
Great instructions. This is the only place i found that showed the router part of the setup. Thanks. Life saver and got us running. This was the only part of the atem mini setup that wasn't intuitive out of the box..
Hey! I want to say your video got me on the right track. I was really struggling with getting our new ATEM Mini Pro set up right, and after watching this, we managed it really quickly and simply. Thanks so much. A well deserved thumbs up!
Great explanation! Watched a number of other videos that did things I couldn't for the life of me understand, such as manually changing the IP of the client computer!
Thanks for this! saved my time a lot :) For the others: You have to give your Atem Mini a manual IP address, which is out of the range of the router. With that you make sure that, atem mini does not get any IP address, which router may give any device to. Find your router's setting page (192.168....) and the IP range of DHCP servers from your routers settings page. if it differs between ....20 and 100, then you need to give an IP address, such as ....19. This would help the atem mini to have always same IP address. After doing this, all you need to do is just to set it up in atem mini software setup, where you enter this static manual IP address. Then you may find it all in your network :) Enjoy.
I'm having trouble connection an Atem Television Studio HD. It is only connected via a cable to a Mac laptop and also via an Ethernet cable to same. I found your video because I questioned whether it was the weird IP defaults causing the problem I'm experiencing, which is that the Control Software simply can't find the Atem. Given they are hard wired, I thinks there must be something more than simply the IP setting (as I'm not using my local network at all to connect the two). The Setup application does display the Studio HD device, so suggests there's a connection. However, your video has answered an important question about how to secure a static IP especially when on my own network, so thank you Tim
This was so helpful! I was in total despair trying to get my ATEM on a network to access the software control. I don’t understand why they designed it so that the software control is only accessible through the Ethernet port.

very similar to how I have it set here - I'm using an old mac mini to turn the ATEM Software control, and Strata light to provide wireless switching. I have a rack of Behringer composers for audio control and preprocessing in some environments, but mostly just use a macbook running a 2nd instance of ATEM Software control to manage audio processing within the ATEM
Dear Tim, thank you for your explanations. Could you pls tell something more about additional pros which gives us connecting mini via lan? How several people can do different jobs like switching, audio adjusting, is preview possible by lan to see other sources ready to switch. And what can we do using smartphone or tablet also connected in the same local network. Been searching for this information for a while now to get the Atem mini to connect via network switch because the laptop we use for broadcast only has one USB C port and no ethernet port. I want to use the USB C port with an adapter for an ethernet port to get a faster connection but could never get the Atem to connect when it saw the network. I used a USB C to USB 3.0 for the the Atem Mini Webcam port connection to free up the one USB C port on the laptop to use as the direct data connection to the router.
@@ryannrjohnson if you want OBS to see the ATEM mini as a webcam video source then that happens over USB - the USB-C to USB3 cable should be fine. The ethernet is for the ATEM control software or (if you have the pro/iso/extreme) to broadcast direct to internet. Currently I don't belive the ATEMs can publish to a custom RMTP, and I don't think OBS can be an RMTP target. I would love to see the ATEM Mini being able to be an NDI source - that would be amazing.
Thanks Tim great explanation. The newer MacBook pros don’t have a network port so I think you would have to use a ethernet to USB cable to go from the ATM mini to the laptop. Is that right?
This might be a silly question, but what is the main purpose for this?Does it help when streaming? connecting an ethernet from ATEMmini to laptop for Network Setup?
@@davegdrums It allows you to connect to the ATEM with control software from any device on the same network. Excellent explanaiton. M y question is if I wire my Atem to te laptop I can cable de laptop to the router. The port will be ocuppied by the Atem, forcing me to broadcast vía WIFi. I dont know if I explained correctly. Thanks.

The USB cable would go direct from the ATEM Mini to the Computer though for setup and video feed. I am wondering if you can control multiple Atem Mini's or Mini Pro's over the same network via ATEM Software Control? Imagine using the Atem HDMI Output to connect to a Sling Cameralink to combine (4) HDMI inputs and repeating that 3 times, plus the hardwire HDMI into sling? Theoretically supporting 16 cameras from 3 camera links connected to The Atem with 4 inputs, plus the 4th. Atem connected to the sling via the hard HDMI input, that could be a lot of I/O to manage. Thanks Tim, but I can't get connected the atem mini in the network. When I ping the ip address I defined (192.168.1.50) it says "no route to host" - "host is down". Do you know what does this mean and how could I get it working ? Thank you very much!
If you're using a router supplied by your ISP, then I would give them a support call and let them know you can't stream to youtube. it will be a router setting or limitation somewhere rather than the ATEM itself You could also try contacting the router manufacturer - they usually want to get stuff like that sorted fast!
In most cases it should just plug and go but many ISP supplied LAN devices are not very good hence a bit of troubleshooting needed from time to time. ;). I also need to do an updated version of this video

Is there a default IP on these things? that might be a way to have atem setup find it, over ethernet or ethernet-usb.c perhaps?
Hey Rory. I've not had any issue where the atem doesn't show up. Try removing the ethernet cable from the ATEM and just attaching with usb directly to the mac, then launch ATEM setup. It could also be teh usb cable
@@TimSimpson turned out it was a firmware update thing. all along the atem software could see and control the mini or mini pro, so i knew it wasn't the usbc cable. after a couple hours on the phone to blackmagic in the UK we found both my mini and mini pro had been firmware updated by /hard reset a ttheir request by holding mic1 on at power up, then updated again and nothing changed. Then for giggles i rebooted the mac... and hey presto everything worked. pretty annoying/relieving to(only) waste so much time on it
@@TimSimpson Good day tim , that usb c cable, can i go hdmi or what? into my mac? which port? Thanks
Perfect!!! This was extremely helpful man. Thank you
Tim, I love you!!
good one
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks you!
I know you have a video on how to setup green screen for the ATEM mini but i can find it. Can you point me in the right direction please.
Hi RolyRJ - here it is th-cam.com/video/27uJW8QxCng/w-d-xo.html
@@TimSimpson Awesome thanks.. All up and running perfectly.
RolyRJ awesome to hear brother
@@TimSimpson I have my ATEM mini, MacBook Pro and using Davinci Resolve 16. How the hack can i use the ATEM mini with Resolve? I try and it says "no device found". I was expecting Disolve to see the ATEM mini as a webcam........ Any clues or do you have a video on this please?
@@RolyRJ I don't believe you can import from a webcam directly. Screenshoot build into the OS. Quicktime will record the stream for you then you import the resulting file.
Hi
So this works with the ip address etc. however I still cannot get my ATEM MINI PRO to see the internet and stream , i can controll the unit via my network from any computer on my network , but cannot get it to stream , any suggestions.?
Great vids btw.
great video m8! Helped me get connected. Gg
Hello new friend, this was great
Thanks so much! I will be back to listen to more. I hope we can connect. Stay safe
Thanks and welcome
I just couldn't find the IP address to connect at a location - isn't the IP address on the back of the router - do I have to go into a routers software to get it. Im totally confused about how to connect manually black magic don't explain how to do this - so far Ive spent hours getting no where on this.
Thanks Tim, but I can't get connected the atem mini in the network. When I ping the ip address I defined (192.168.1.50) it says "no route to host" - "host is down". Do you know what does this mean and how could I get it working ? Thank you very much!
Is the ATEM connected to your network router or switch?
Thank you! A very helpful tutorial!
I still cannot get my ATEM MINI PRO to see the internet and stream
If you're using a router supplied by your ISP, then I would give them a support call and let them know you can't stream to youtube. it will be a router setting or limitation somewhere rather than the ATEM itself
You could also try contacting the router manufacturer - they usually want to get stuff like that sorted fast!
Hey @luisa - did you have any luck? I’m hearing similar things from a few other people. Can you tell me what your router make and model is?
Great tutorial, but I hate that I have to go through all of this just to connect the Atem Mini to my network.
In most cases it should just plug and go but many ISP supplied LAN devices are not very good hence a bit of troubleshooting needed from time to time. ;). I also need to do an updated version of this video
@@TimSimpson It was a bit of a struggle, but eventually I made it work and your video helped a lot! Works like a charm now :)
