This is a newbie question. Will connecting the ATEM via Ethernet help with audio issues? I find that whilst streaming using it as USB the image looks great, its in sync, but the audio sounds like its underwater. I've got a great audio set up.
We have ATEM MINI Pro Extreme ISO. It is connected to a computer via the Ethernet connection. The computer runs the ATEM software. The computer is connected to an ORBI router and then connected to a high speed internet connection. I have not been able to get the computer to share its Internet connection with the ATEM Mini for streaming to Vimeo, YT or FB. What am I missing?
@maxwilson7001 that’s not how it works; the computer doesn’t share the connection (unless you’re trying to bridge the computer’s WiFi to the ATEM?); the ATEM should have a unique IP address that is similar to the computer’s address (or 192.168.1.x). The ATEM should be connected via Ethernet to the same router as the computer.
Hey Joseph. Thanks for the great videos! I've just subscribed. Quick question. Is there a way to see an Item that is at a remote location? We have an Atem on a network at our local church and I'd like to be able to access that from home. Is this possible? Kind regards.
Absolutely! Set up a VPN at your church. Once you connect to the VPN from wherever you are, you can access the ATEM as if you were there. Or, run the ATEM Software on a computer at your church, and use a screen sharing system to view it. I personally use a system called “Jump” as it’s proven the most reliable. You can see it in use in my “5x BGH1” video.
Fantasic Joseg, thank you. BUT what if I just want to create a network to record my content and only have a cell phone. For example I want to use Mix Effect on my phone to control the ATEM, which is connected to a laptop, but there is no internet avaialable (as is the case where I am overseas.). Can I create a network on the phone and join the ATEM to it? I have an extreme model. Thanks
No, but you just need a wifi router. That will make the network; it doesn’t need internet. And you can get them for cheap. You don’t need anything fancy.

Hey! Can I just use a wifi router without internet and Connect the Atem via ethernet and the iPad via wifi? Or can I just use a Tp-Link without router and connect both the atem and iPad via ethernet. Would they be able to talk to eachother via MixEffect?
How do you use the cell phone internet (via USB-C) AND do recording???? I can add my cell via USB-C to Ethernet via converter, but then ho do I manage it on PC. PS. A quick test did not allow a switch between my cell's converter & Mini Pro... no internet, suddenly. Will still test more... Can I use a USB splitter to do multiple USB features at once???
I do have one question, we have a room that we are getting ready to hold interviews in that we would like to either live stream and record, however, we have no way to plug our ATEM Mini Pro ISO into ethernet, is there a way to connect it to Wi-Fi? If that's not possible, we appreciate your help anyway because this video was a great help since your video taught us some things we didn't know about our ATEM Mini.
Two ways to do that. VPN into the network at the remote location, and control the ATEM through an instance of ATEM software running on your local computer, or just a screenshare system like Jump to just share the screen of the remote computer. Both work great; the first one is cleaner but requires more setup (a VPN).
How would I connect an ATEM Mini Pro ISO, Wacom Continue, External Monitor and a Henge Deck Docking hub to a 2021 MacBook Pro at the same time? I only have 3 USB C ports on the MacBook and the ATEM nor the Wacom Cintique 16 pro seem to work through a hub. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear...
great clear and understandable info. Will you be doing a video on stream deck and companion? I could never get companion to work but did get my stream deck to control my atem extreme iso for switching which was all I really needed.
I think it has something to do with my ip settings. It sees my mini pro in set up. When I hit connect it just says no switcher connected. I have it connect via usb and Ethernet to my router on same network. It created another Ethernet lane. That one says no internet access.
Do you have any videos that address connecting ATEM to network and connecting to it off site via VPN or other methods? I am searching everywhere for this information.
Not in video, but there’s nothing about the ATEM to set up differently. As long as you have your VPN set up correctly, then you can access the ATEM just like any other device on your network. Just open the Atem software remotely, and enter the IP address of your ATEM. It works great; I do it all the time. As far as configuring your VPN goes, I can’t help you with that. That is totally hardware specific and will depend on your router.
What if the ATEM Mini Pro doesn't show an Ethernet connection in the setup window? I have both a Pro and Extreme and there's no problem when the Extreme is hooked up, but the Mini doesn't seem to see the Ethernet cable (I just got it back from Black Magic because there were problems with audio and video output, but they said they found nothing wrong with the unit).
When I come to a client company to do a stream...how can I then connect my Atem extreme Iso, companion, stream deck XL and mixeffect to work fine together. So networks when working on location... All I get is one line of internet connection. Thanks!

Your laptop is getting internet over wifi, and you want to stream from the ATEM using your computer’s wifi, is that right? If so, then do what I showed here for building a tiny network between your computer and the ATEM. You’ll need your wifi and ethernet networks to be on the same router and subnet setting, with different IPs, and that should do it. However keep in mind that wifi is not good for live streaming and you are likely to experience buffering and dropouts.
Can we get a better "quality" stream when going directly out the ATEM Mini Pro over the ethernet cable vs sending the signal out the ATEM's USB to the computer and then to youtube? I know from experience that I get a better quality stream video when going from the camera through a Camlink 4k to my computer to a live youtube stream (no atem). I would love to get that same quality directly from the ATEM Mini Pro (without a computer). Is the RTMP-encoded H.264 live stream of the Ethernet the same quality as the USB webcam output (using OBS to encode the USB webcam output into a streamable format) from the ATEM Mini Pro?
hm, debatable. The HDMI output is the full quality signal. SUB video is definitely compressed quite a lot. As far as streaming (via ethernet, as you say), then that depends on the compression level chosen in the streaming settings.
I am stuck on wifi alone, and have to stream that way at my church until they get me a hard wired connection to the booth. No one ever thought to install ethernet from the office to the control booth, so I stepped in as tech driector. I just streamed via OBS using my Macbook Pro. However, a colleague let me use his Atem Mini Extreme, and not sure how to connect to the network without ethernet. The whole point is to take the load off the macbook and just run the switcher out as a webcam. Is there any advantage or way to using the gigabit Wifi until I can get a hard wried connection?
You'll need additional hardware. Do you know what their wifi setup is? If it’s something like a Nest (google) home or anything that is a mesh system, just get another node and pull Ethernet from there. If not, search Amazon for “wifi to Ethernet”. There are plenty.
Ok so what if ethernet connection is not possible? Can the ATEM access the internet through the macbook and type c? The macbook will have access from a mobile hotspot. I know it is not ideal, but it is the only way in some scenarios. Ok, you explained it on your next video thanks!!!
Do you mean from the ISO recording? I’m not a Resolve editor so I’m not sure. I do know it’s not built as a multicam track but just cute between clips.
@@photojoseph yes from the ISO recording, the ATEM mini ISO creates.a DR project that you can further correct. The problem is that all the cameras appear under the same track, it makes it hard to replace the files with higher quality files for us non Blackmagic camera users. .
Unfortunately, our budget could not stretch do the extreme version off the ATEM mini pro ISO and already, swimming in complexity, the last thing I wanted is there have so many more buttons and inputs multitasking in a concert situation. I did manage to replace art Netgear five port switch with the flash eight channel router for my home studio and thereby liberate that router for use with the switcher lap top and what ever Internet connection I'd be using at actual events. However I found that although my key appeared to be good I could no longer get through to TH-cam when using other networks that our home without reverting to using the USB connection to connect to computer, rather than to record. What is going on? Searching on the Internet I've know that the others have the same problem and also some mention oven need to change the subnet mask, whatever that means.
Sounds like a networking issue unique to that environment and beyond what I can help you with. If you’re on DHCP then it should “just work”. Create a new youtube key and try again?

@@Tyler_Bundy it’s hard to imagine. Maybe a camera setting changed? Can’t have anything to do with the network; it doesn’t interfere with the the video path.
@@photojoseph ok so I have spent all day on this. When I go to the recorded file and select the main mp4 file it's all grainy with bad audio. @@Tyler_Bundy wow. Ok, do a reset on the ATEM. This may not work as there’s a bug that makes this not work on some models, but it won’t hurt anything if it fails. There is what we call the “Recovery Mode”. Holding down the upper left “ON” button while applying power puts it into a state where a firmware update is required.
You have to have something to stream to; hardware or software. You could set up an RTMP receiver on a computer, or the easiest way is to get an ATEM Streaming Bridge, and stream to that on your local network. geni.us/ATEMbridge
unfortuately ethernet connection is not usually an option for me as I am not working in a dedicated area, often streaming from an outdoors location and via a hotspot. I need a wireless connection.
If you’re usually remote, consider the RØDEcaster video or the YoloBox - I have dedicated videos on both products. Very different hardware to fill any specific need.
Great explanation but as with most BM hardware, it never works as easy as it sounds. And of course, it is suppose to be so simple that there is nothing to trouble shoot. Well, I plugged the ATEM into my router. And NOTHING. Not a thing. I can stream from the ATEM, but it is not showing up on my network. Ugh. I have this problem with everything BM. The streambridge never worked, the atem mini network doesn't work... Zoom is so much cheaper and more reliable. Ugh. Why even try :( Note: I did get it to eventually work, but not one video on TH-cam told me how and the BM website was useless.
Do you want to share what eventually worked? ATEM setup since adding DHCP years ago is typically plug and play. The Streaming Bridge is definitely complicated and requires router configuration but then again it’s a complicated process that it’s doing.
@@photojoseph I had to connect via USB and ethernet. Then open the ATEM Setup. It only recognized the USB. So I opened the USB and found the IP address. Then I had to manually add the IP via the little plus sign at the bottom right of the ATEM setup page. But even this wasn't easy, because it was prefilling the wrong IP for some reason. So I have to disconnect the USB. Close the ATEM setup app. Then reopen. It of course did not recognize anything. This isn't a thorough guide, because it makes a judgment on Wi-Fi not being a valid connection, and skips that gigantic subject -- even though there may be "emergency" situations when Wi-Fi is the only option, and the user is smart enough to balance the risks.
Then you should make a video on that. If a user is savvy enough to bridge wifi to the ATEM over their computer, then they don’t need me telling them how to do it.

@@photojoseph yes a cellular connection
@@photojoseph i’ve gained a lot of knowledge from watching your videos and you keep it simple and make it easy to follow and on a different note I went to New York this past week and I ended up picking up a S1R from adorama for 1900 bucks open box and I need to look through your videos and see if you have a video comparing the S1 and the S1R Features As far as taking photos in low light situations
@@tracevmiller I don’t, sorry, but congratulations! I am working on a video that you’ll like though.
Cellular … it’s on the list!
This is a newbie question. Will connecting the ATEM via Ethernet help with audio issues? I find that whilst streaming using it as USB the image looks great, its in sync, but the audio sounds like its underwater. I've got a great audio set up.
No, something else is happening. Troubleshoot the audio itself.
I am having this same problem. The computer isn’t sharing it’s connection yet the ATEM has an IP address
@@photojoseph Thanks!
@@photojoseph Thank you. I think my problem has been not syncing up the Gateway addresses, so your video was really helpful, thank you!
1. Thanks for the constant brain drops.
I am so new at this that I am a bud that has yet to turn green, TBS, It never occurred to me to connect via USB, I automatically connected via Ethernet, My problems arose when I purchased a streamdeck XL and attempted to use companion.
I can't get the companion and streamdeck softwares to play nice together for love nor money, Yes I did download the companion software into streamdeck, Companion will find my iMac as localhost, wired or Wifi but there is no way to input the ip address directly for the Atem Switch. (I think I confused myself trying to explain that ). I'll try connecting via USB to see if it works that way now.
Anyhoo I am grateful for all the knowledge you pass on.

I watched your video and I like what you're doing my problem is I cannot connect the ATM television Studio HD and the hybrid X Studio mini I would like to have someone give me some professionalism or some type of idea on what I'm doing wrong thank you
hi PhotoJoseph, I appreciate for your support, I am using Atem Mini experiencing that the HDMI out is not sending signals. What is the cause of this and possible solution taking into consideration that it has only one output how can I have the output broadcasted
What is it connected to? Did it ever work? Try the simplest connection possible; plug it into a monitor and see if that works.
Hey! Can I just use a wifi router without internet and Connect the Atem via ethernet and the iPad via wifi? Or can I just use a Tp-Link without router and connect both the atem and iPad via ethernet. Would they be able to talk to eachother via MixEffect?
absolutely!
You need an Extreme with dual USB ports to do both. You can’t use a hub for that; different protocols.
Can this method be used to control the Atem for a completely different location (i.e. a different city)
Can I use the ATEM Mini Pro ISO with a USB-c hub to both record and tether my iPhone?
No
Hi! can we display the live streaming from the atem mini pro to a TV or a Projector with a laptop without using any streaming software?
Don’t even need a laptop. HDMI out from the ATEM to the projector!
@@photojoseph but then I lose the multiview .. so is there a way that I can get both?
@@stonekillerhaokip9374 aha. You could stream to an ATEM Streaming Bridge over the local network. No internet needed, and you can use high bandwidth.
Excellent and Clear! Thank you!
Awesome, thank you!
great clear and understandable info. Will you be doing a video on stream deck and companion? I could never get companion to work but did get my stream deck to control my atem extreme iso for switching which was all I really needed.
Thank you! I’ve talked about it in several videos but never done a setup one. I guess I should!
Is there a way to connect your audio mixer via ethernet to an atem mini, thereby bypassing the quality and delay problems?
I will definitely do that 🙌🏼
Sweet!
I think it has something to do with my ip settings. It sees my mini pro in set up. When I hit connect it just says no switcher connected. I have it connect via usb and Ethernet to my router on same network. It created another Ethernet lane. That one says no internet access.
Just saw this; did you ever resolve this issue?
Is there a way to control an atem from an other place (other city) via the internet ?
VPN or screenshare
Do you have any videos that address connecting ATEM to network and connecting to it off site via VPN or other methods? I am searching everywhere for this information.
Not in video, but there’s nothing about the ATEM to set up differently. As long as you have your VPN set up correctly, then you can access the ATEM just like any other device on your network. Just open the Atem software remotely, and enter the IP address of your ATEM. It works great; I do it all the time. As far as configuring your VPN goes, I can’t help you with that. That is totally hardware specific and will depend on your router.
@@photojoseph thank you so much for your help! I am going to try this!
I cannot get the atem mini pro to connect to the software for the life of me. Pls help me!!!!
do macros still work via ethernet without usb?
Macros run on the ATEM itself so its connection to the computer is irrelevant.
to stream from a meeting room that only has Wi-fi what would I use? (preferably without a computer)
You'll want the YoloBox then pulse.ly/oue7zqetgg
What if the ATEM Mini Pro doesn't show an Ethernet connection in the setup window? I have both a Pro and Extreme and there's no problem when the Extreme is hooked up, but the Mini doesn't seem to see the Ethernet cable (I just got it back from Black Magic because there were problems with audio and video output, but they said they found nothing wrong with the unit).
connect over USB and ensure that the network setup is correct; needs to be DHCP or if manual, have a valid IP address entered.
Does connecting it straight to a router without webcam will it still stream?
Yes, that’s how it’s designed. It has its own encoder.
@@photojoseph thanks
do you know if the lumix lx100 has a remote input =D
I don’t but I’m sure you can google the user guide for it and look in there

When I come to a client company to do a stream...how can I then connect my Atem extreme Iso, companion, stream deck XL and mixeffect to work fine together. So networks when working on location...
All I get is one line of internet connection.
Thanks!
You need to bring your own router. Just like doing it home; think of the client’s connection like your WAN. You are sitting on top of that.

So how we can live stream directly to youtube via ethernet cable? (atem mini)
That’s exactly what this video is about… do as it says here and you’re online.
@@photojoseph did the laptop will connect to internet after i plug the cable to atem mini?
Hi please how can I connect atem mini extreme to my windows laptop and sharing the Internet from laptop to atem to stream live.
@@photojoseph They finally sprung for ethernet just a few days ago, and now we have 2gbps speed...in Vernonia, OR nonetheless!
@@filmtrek3933 wow… amazing! Still no gig down here in Ashland 😭
Might be helpful to know how to find its MAC address if you are needing to whitelist it in a managed network.
I didnt want to get into that level of depth. That’s networking education beyond this video. That rabbit hole is deep.
Ok so what if ethernet connection is not possible? Can the ATEM access the internet through the macbook and type c? The macbook will have access from a mobile hotspot.
I know it is not ideal, but it is the only way in some scenarios. Ok, you explained it on your next video thanks!!!
How can I separate the camera tracks in DaVinci resolve? When I open the DR project all cameras show up in one single track
Do you mean from the ISO recording? I’m not a Resolve editor so I’m not sure. I do know it’s not built as a multicam track but just cute between clips.
@@photojoseph yes from the ISO recording, the ATEM mini ISO creates.a DR project that you can further correct. The problem is that all the cameras appear under the same track, it makes it hard to replace the files with higher quality files for us non Blackmagic camera users. .
@@Morpheus170 Couldn't you copy and paste a clip from each cam out of the master DR track onto separate tracks and stretch them on the timeline?
@@chenangocreativelabs Yes, that's exactly my process as of today, but imagine doing this for a 2 hour-long event with 3 cameras.
Im experiencing Granular Visuals and Poor Audio since i have connected my atem mini pro iso to the network switch... Im recording to a hard drive and im recording with an A6400 and an Rode NTG 4. Not sure why it is so bad. Any advice would be great!
Reboot everything?
@@photojoseph everything was rebooted. I was just recording last week and it came out great. Not it's horribly bad quality...
But when I go into the ISO file for the video it's nice and crisp and when I go to the audio it is also clear... im working on talking with Blackmagic support but if you know anything why this would happen let me know. Thanks for responding!
@@Tyler_Bundy wow. Ok, do a reset on the ATEM. This may not work as there’s a bug that makes this not work on some models, but it won’t hurt anything if it fails. There is what we call the “Recovery Mode”. Holding down the upper left “ON” button while applying power puts it into a state where a firmware update is required.
one question: how do I stream only to my local network without going to the internet?
You have to have something to stream to; hardware or software. You could set up an RTMP receiver on a computer, or the easiest way is to get an ATEM Streaming Bridge, and stream to that on your local network. geni.us/ATEMbridge
When I connect my windows pc via hdmi it only shows my computer background. It doesnt show what Im doing on my pc. So weird. I need help.
Enable mirroring. You’re looking at a second desktop.
unfortuately ethernet connection is not usually an option for me as I am not working in a dedicated area, often streaming from an outdoors location and via a hotspot. I need a wireless connection.
If you’re usually remote, consider the RØDEcaster video or the YoloBox - I have dedicated videos on both products. Very different hardware to fill any specific need.
Nice video
good
straight up
Great explanation but as with most BM hardware, it never works as easy as it sounds.
But it said "add device manually" and I then clicked that and it let me add the IP manually. Ugh. So clunky.
Love your channel though. I just obsorb your info each time I watch. Thanks.
@@GoLiveAlaska interesting. The software should just find the ATEM on the network, no USB required, unless it’s a really complex network (like an office building with tons of routers, subnets, etc.). Glad you sorted it out. Networks can be tricky. And thanks for watching and learning with me!
@@photojoseph Rather comically insecure response. The universal truth for ambitious TH-camrs is: it isn't all about you. Tethering the ATEM Mini Pro to a Wi-Fi-connected computer is not a matter of "savvy," just a few quick clicks. It's another major subject that belongs under a purported "everything you need to know" guide entitled, "How to Connect (the) ATEM Mini to your Network."
@@focuspulling _sigh_ I’ll repeat what I said in the video. Wifi is not recommended. I’m not going to turn around and then tell you how to do it. If you’re so convinced that it’s necessary for emergencies, make your own video and I’ll go comment on it.
Great video! But still cannot get my ATEM Mini to connect to network with a direct ethernet from router configuration. I know the cable is good, and the network is good from testing.
