One thing about this model train hobby is it really brings people together. It's the greatest hobby in the world. As a collector of HO scale trains, I don't see much happening in my home city of NY as far model trains go. I need to travel to different parts of the country and meet some of these interesting people who have a common interest in model trains. That would be GREAT! 🚂

I love that you mentioned Märklin! My dad got his first set when I was 3 years old and I grew up building on his Märklin layout. I learned a lot by doing the planning and wiring and it is the reason I studied electronics and got my degree as an electrical engineer. When my dad downsized I inherited his Märklin collection and I even have a separate loop of it on my 2-rail HO scale layout for nostalgia.

I haven't been up to the station in a long time, but I remember when they refurbished it, and what a great job they did. The only bad thing is that the line had more trains back when it was still SP. There's also an old preserved SP freight depot in the valley over at Chandler and Lankershim Blvd.

The geography, the weather, the people from all over the world, the sky being the limit on goals in the entertainment industry and the sense of entrepreneurial spirit that is thriving in the Los Angeles area.. the beach and mountains that can be experienced within a ten minute timeframe. Hi Lisa! Ralph Miller here. Another nice video! Thank you for taking the time to create these great videos from where you've gotten to go. As a school teacher, it's hard to break away to attend a lot of train shows as I live down on the border here in Texas. There's not a lot of model/toy train activity here, the closest is San Antonio, then Katy/Houston and then Dallas. I do go occasionally to the TCA shows in Garden City (North San Antonio) and shows at New Braunfels convention center which is sponsored by the New Braunfels Railroad museum. These shows are held every October and April. I am a charter member of TCA's Dixie Division. Back in 1984, my father and I went to a TCA meet in Pigeon Forge, TN where the chapter was being formed. That was a lot of fun. Currently, I'm a member of the Lone Star Division. Are you a TCA or other club member? My parents were members of every club, including Lionel Collector Club of Canada. As for me, I'm just a member of TCA.

The Lone Star chapter of the NMRA is going to be showing my episode about the National Train Show on repeat in the Fort Worth area at the end of the month. But other than a trip to Austin last year and a quick stop in Amarillo while driving across the country this year, I haven't actually been to Texas. So nice to have connected with you there!

My love for trains came through my tough as nails grandpa who worked on the rr out west. When I was a little higher than knee high he had just retired and would take my brother and I out to the switch yard to visit his buddies. We’d watch the switchers pushing cars around and get up in the cabooses.
Those men are now all long gone. If you wanted to find a handful of some of the toughest old leather faced men, there they were sitting around that break room table chewing cigar stubs or spit’n tobacco in that tiny dingy sorry little excuse for a break room. I was in awe😂 I never thought id be working in a yard myself decades later but tadahh. Its fun till its raining or snowing and that seems to be the only time the 70 or so lb knuckle falls out from a busted pin when you open it and dam near takes your toes off. And if its your day in the loco, that means youre not the switchman getting wet or missing toes😂. And if you’re sad no one can see your tears falling down your face up there in the loco. But thats just a fairytale that men cry anyway😉 i will miss these guys someday even though at times we’ve wanted to serve each other more than one knuckle sandwich.
