    One of the best salsas I've had was at a Yucatecan restaurant in Mexico City on a new Year's Eve. It was a cooked salsa, with all roasted ingredients: habaneros, green tomatoes, ripe tomatoes, onions, garlic, culantro, a bit of cumin, salt, a touch each of lemon and vinagre, and a bit of piloncillo, all simmered together. It set you on fire right out of the gate, but as you kept eating, the burn became a background note and the roasted flavors came forward. The endorphins really kicked in, and I felt like I'd had IV Dilaudid.

  • @KeithCooper-Albuquerque

    Vanessa Ifediora, in case you haven't been told yet, in America, it's common for a wife to use her husbands name, for instance, Mrs. George Renfro (also addressing husband and wife as "Mr.& Mrs. George Renfro"). This might be an old fashioned thing nowadays, as most women nowadays probably look at that usage as being insulting. I don't know why it was done that way, but that was the tradition.

    • @Kas4776
      @Kas4776 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The historical context of the use of Mrs is all about being formal; originally Mrs was short for Mistress and was used to apply to women of high social standings regardless if she was married or not. When it shifted to be applied to women who were married, it again noted social status and that a woman was the wife of a certain man. It was, also used as a way to protect the woman's identity when introduced or while she was in public. First names, were reserved for family and close personal friends. It was a way of protecting a woman's identity and showing her respect. After the 1950s it began falling out of practice and is almost never used anymore.

      That is a possibility I hadn't considered. I've actually come across several women with such nicknames: Claude/Claudia, Sam/Samantha, etc. I personally find the practice, vile, and can't come to using the masculine name, and instead use their full name.
      In context, I kind of doubt someone would use their nickname on a bottle marketed to the public, but then most things people do nowadays shock me too.

  • @DarthMohammedRules
    @DarthMohammedRules 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Seriously, Mrs. Renfro's Ghost Pepper salsa is like the perfect balance between spiciness and flavor that you could ever expect from commercial, grocery-store products. You want a better/spicier salsa than that? You're gonna have to make it yourself. As far as what you can get off the shelf? This is the best of the best. ;)
    *edit*
    There's seriously no other "commercial grade"/grocery store salsa that holds a candle to Mrs. Renfro's, mainly when it comes to the "top level"/super spicy salsas. I'm sorry, but in my neck of the woods (NE TX, even), there just isn't a whole lotta stuff on the grocery store shelves that compare to that level of spiciness/flavor.

      I like the Mango Habanero a lot (which my wife calls "candy salsa" even though it's too spicy for her). It's probably accurate to call it a spicy chutney, but I don't care. The Mrs. Renfro's Salsa Verde is really good too.

    I make a peach mango salsa that is very good in my humble opinion.
    Ingredients
    :
    1-1/2 cups chopped fresh tomatoes
    , 3/4 cup chopped peeled fresh peaches, 1/2 cup chopped red onion, 1/2 cup chopped sweet yellow pepper
    1/2 cup chopped peeled mango
    , 2 tablespoons chopped seeded habanero pepper, (I use different color peppers because I like how it looks, red orange green and yellow)
    3 garlic cloves, minced
    , 1-1/2 teaspoons lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh cilantro (if you like cilantro, I think it tastes like soap)
    In a large bowl, combine the first nine ingredients. Cover and refrigerate until serving. (overnight is best)
    Oh and for Christ's sake wear gloves when your seeding and chopping the peppers and don't touch your eye. Also if the Habanero peppers are too hot you can use jalapeno pepper.
