I hate the fact that people will turn two amazing characters into a horribly written couple. Im sure the reason people like shipping rather than canon ships is cause the characters have personalities outside of the said partner. Removing that personality turns them into an annoying stereotype. Also, the thing I've noticed about fanon soukoku is that they lowk push on straight couple ideals onto it? Like Dazai being muscular, dominant, and strong, whilst Chuuya is submissive, petite, and small. This in no way is meant to say that gay couples can not have those traits. it's just an insight on how those fandom characteristics are similar to those BL manga made for people who fetishize gay relationships
I agree with this heavily. I didn’t want to get into it in an anime video but there’s tons of gay ships that end up have assigned gender roles in fanon. It needs to be studies atp.
For real! Like Chuuya is one of the most masculine character in the show. Why he is reduced into this "Dazai b-baka!" tsundere bottom femboy with big BUTTerfly? Okay his butterfly is beautiful- SO EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW'S ARE!!
@@witchbetelgeuse Agreed!! He's so freakin' cool and I hate that people reduce his character :/ like, it's okay for him to be vulnerable and cry sometimes (god knows I tend to write him crying a whole lot lol), but you have to write it in a way that acknowledges his character and makes it feel like a realistic situation for him to cry in, not one that turns him into someone who's weak and soft-willed.
SO true. everytime people try to push the masc gay and fem gay agenda onto them, an angel loses its wings. i get that some people hc dazai as muscular and chuuya as skinny and petite, but everytime i see fanart of it my body physically recoils. it is *CANON* that chuuya is an extremely talented martial artist and has very high stamina, while dazai is described as lanky and drawn as if he’s skinny. dazai’s also canonically broke and chuuya is likely rich because of the ways he dresses and his port mafia paycheck. all this to say that chuuya probably has more money for food and other luxuries, while dazai doesn’t, adding to the narrative that chuuya is actually more muscular than dazai. once again i understand people have head cannons but 97% of the time with these people they genuinly believe it to be canon, as this subsection of skk shippers are often pretty adamant they’re right.
@@rileythesmiliest I knowww; I love skk so freakin' much but the amount of fanfictions I've seen (even some of my own fanfics from when I was like twelve, those are hard for me to even look at lmfao) where Chuuya is this "cute-little sad-little twink," I just-- I can't. He's my favourite character and has been so since I first laid eyes on him, and it's mainly because he's strong as hell and cooler than any other b!tch around!! Why would you get rid of his strength when it's so freaking awesome?? My man punched a hole straight THROUGH Lovecraft, he's a fuckin' singularity, he is not someone to take lightly!! God. I'm sorry this is so long, but I could honestly rant for hours about Chuuya; he's just so complex and awesome and it makes me want to punch the wall when people mischaracterise him. Anyway, have a good night, sorry for being so long-winded lol ^^'
Another fact about Chuuya’s character said in a interview: Were there any other memorable characters? Asagiri Now that I think about it, Chuya was really perfect. Harukawa I mean, it took such an incredibly long time! Asagiri We might have spent the most time on Chuya. There were just so many patterns. Harukawa We couldn't decide on the abilities without deciding on the character designs, and everyone was troubled.... We even sat at a cafe till 4 in the morning without coming to a conclusion and leaving. Asagiri It was decided that he was going to be Dazai's ex-partner, but the authors had a connection in real life, and we worried over what kind of character to make him into. It was just confirmed that he was short (lol). Thanks to that, Chuya's really popular now. I always felt like he was going to be a popular character, that's why I refused to go easy.
As a soukoku shipper myself, I’m really torn on this video. There are a lot of points I agree with (like the toxic fans being loudest and the general lack of reading comprehension in the fandom) but there are also some things you said that I don’t agree with. The main one is something you brought up a few times: that mischaracterization is disrespectful to the author. As much as I think it’s important to respect the author as a person, I don’t think any fan works, no matter how you feel about them, can “disrespect” the author. That’s the thing about fan works, they create something new from the source media. I might hate fanfiction that mischaracterizes Chuuya and Dazai, but it’s not hurting anyone, even the author. By releasing a work of media, an author is “setting the characters free” in a way. They can no longer assert control over how those characters are depicted in fan works and if they try to, it ends up becoming a toxic mess (see the current yaelokre situation). But that’s just my take as someone who’s spent some time in fandom spaces. Additionally, it's worth noting that your perception of SatoSugu is completely opposite to mine. My experience with the ship is almost identical to Soukoku, but then again I quit watching after the first season. My point is just that a perception of a ship and its shippers, while possibly shared with others, is entirely subjective. Also, I wanted to note that the account you mentioned at 17:30 (ratscantw1) is NOT a reputable source. They regularly harass people and have had at least one account suspended for doxxing people- that’s why their username keeps changing. I used to follow them but they’ll turn on you so fast like they did to me and call on all their followers to help in harrassing you. Please PLEASE be careful around them and block them if you haven’t already. I’m actually terrified to even add this part in case they find it and connect it back to me, but your safety is worth the risk. Overall, I agree with many of the things you mentioned in the video, but I think a lot of it is a matter of perspective. Soukoku is the ship that got me into writing fanfiction and to this day it’s one of my favorite ships. The bad fans exist, but they do for every ship and every fandom. My general disagreement boils down to the pattern of pinning the actions of toxic shippers on the ship itself (this happens all the time with bakudeku, which I also ship). I think you did a good job of attempting to separate the two, though. It's more of a fandom-wide complaint.
1. Where i agree on what you're saying about mischracterisation, understand that i'm not talking about the type we all do- myself included as a fanfic writer. What i addressed was the obsession with feminisation STRICTLY under a sexual light and how Chuuya's height pushed these gender roles onto him + about how character interpretations tend to only stick to what food they like at times. But i agree, i didnt stress the part where i said fanon interpretations are good enough. This is totally not a jab at those, my bad for not clarifying 2. the person i mentioned has proof in that thread. regardless of the person they are, tatamana roleplays with minors and that's a fact. This thread simply has proof of it and this doesn't change by who's presenting the info. I'm sorry about your experiences with them, but that's irrelevant here when i've also provided evidence. plus. no one likes tatamana lol. just look up how much everyone calls her out. 3. as someone who partook in the jjk fandom and read the manga, stsg and skk are very different even if alike. 4. thank you for the observations! I agree some things i say are not fleshed out too much. I like skk and this was 100 percent a fandom observation/rant. thank you for remaining kind and respectful as well :)
@@Cashexists to clarify further on point 2: I’m not trying to defend tatamana by any means, just warning you about ratscantw1 in general. Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Also it’s not just my experiences- they are known in the fandom as someone to avoid because of their constant harassment and doxxing habits. I was just trying to warn you- separate from the tatamana callout- that you should be very very careful around them. Definitely feel similarly about tatamana, but I didn’t mention that part because you obviously already are familiar with their actions.
@@cornsnake alright, i'll keep your words in mind. thank you for telling me. Also i really like the point you made about "setting characters free" i'll def use your comment in a future video
I didn't even know Atsushi was the MC when I started watching BSD, I thought it was Dazai (Even if I started watching for Ranpo) because of Soukoku and no attention on Atsushi. And he's such a great character and people make him just some GaY fUrRy???
I really like the topic and lately, though not in such detail as you did, I tried discussing the issue of the ship with a friend of mine who is an extreme soukoku shipper. I texted somewhere in a groupchat, don't really remember the context now, that soukoku is not the main thing, plot or something in BSD. I then added that it isn't even that important and the show doesn't need it to funtion. To say I love Dazai's and Chuuya's dynamic is an understatenment, because I adore the relationship they have, how they work together and how they complimenteach other. Altough I do not believe they need to be in a relationship and them having platonic friendship is something I'm completely on board. Not everything has to be about ships. This made her really angry though and I'm sure that if we talked in person, she'd hit me or something. She started ranting about how wrong I am, soukoku supremacy etc and I just looked and thought to myself that she's the embodiment of everything that's wrong with this fandom. The worst thing is, just a few minutes later I found out that she hasn't actually watched or read BSD! That is the day, where human hypocracy reached it's peak
I think some of this is that dazai is SUCH a popular fave and people tend to focus on the characters they care about rather than others which unfortunately leaves some great characters to be neglected 😢 (JUSTICE FOR ATSUSHI AND CHUUYA!!!!)
FINALLY SOMEONE SPEAKS UP ABT THIS. I personally don't ship skk and I've nothing against the ship itself and I have no issue with it being popular. It's just that sometimes it can ruin ppl's perceptions of what the original story is like/remove value from other characters. And especially since I don't ship skk, it's annoying. I'm not saying that every skk shipper is like this, I actually know many bsd fans that ship skk and aren't like this but it happens sometimes and it needed to be brought up. I love the examples you gave for the mischaracterisation of both Dazai and Chuuya + mischaracterisation of the characters they interact with + ppl making everything be about the ship. This is a very good vid, tysm for posting it
4:20 in the fandom's defence, chuuya opened more than 80 bottles of wine when dazai left the Mafia to celebrate. And even in the novels, there are a lot moments where he's with wine. Saying that he loves the stuff is an understatement.
As a soukoku shipper, I absolutely hate the idea that Chuuya is either just soukoku's other, agressive and toxic half, and not his own character, or a cute tiny tsundere, when there is obviously so much more than that. In reality, Chuuya is his own person, has his own problems, life, personality, relationships and traits, and honestly - people just take his blunt character over the top, and make him have anger issues (where it's not said that he has them or doesn't), or just completely skip over that part. The whole stereotypical way of looking at basically any relationship, the "one is dominant, muscular and handsome while the ither is short, petite and cute" really pisses me off, and because some soukoku shippers mischaracterize the pair so much, the community is so hated. I personally think that if Chuuya wasn't of short height, and Dazai wasn't tall, a lot of people would say that Chuuya is the dominant, while Dazai is the submissive one. It's crazy how height has put so much into this pairing, and the way that at first, we didn't know much about Chuuya's character. I must admit, I used to make assumptions based on the stereotype too, but that was only when I just got into the fandom, and that was a long time ago, when stormbringer wasn't even released, the 15 manga wasn't thought of, and I was a kid who just took what people showed me like a sponge, though I now understand that the way of thinking is wrong. Even fanfiction on AO3 made in about 2016-2017 was really bad, and by now, I only found two of them with the ship that were good. Thankfully, more people realize that too, due to to Chuuya's character being shown more, and more videos like these. Thank you for this video, and I hope more people watch this and understand
the way you articulated everything is WONDERFUL. i absolutely agree with all points, as someone who's aroace and a non-shipper, it really annoys me when great characters and their situations get so watered-down and mischaracterized by people, ESPECIALLY in bsd, a franchise that has truly amazing portrayal of mental issues and personal growth, as well as showcasing morally gray characters and all other aspects.
im a shipper but i also love long stories with no shipping - i agree with everything you said and mischaracterisation is one of the hardest things to read and enjoy. It's as if you aren't even reading that character. the watering down and mischaracterisation makes it hard to stay in the fandom and enjoy works on ao3.
hard agree on this - that’s why I mainly look for very in-character fanfics with limited shipping coz I can’t stand it when ships become the main focus of the story
As a soukoku shipper I couldn't agree more i view their relationship as a love-hate relationship because they trust and do care about each other but that doesn't make them a lovely-dovely couple or something yes the ship is cute and yes i love it and yes the fandom make everything about the ship way too fanon or make chuuya soft or just make him get angry or scream at everything which is such a big OOC that i hate and the amount of hate people get for have a different ship then soukoku like kunizai or fyozai and many other like i love every legal ship and soukoku is so much more a ship its the name of their duo when dazai was in the pm and they have a deep understanding of each other but either way the ship is cute but the fadom make its reputation bad
As a big obsessed soukoku shipper, i actually go insane reading comments normalising them as some all healthy relationship like are we shipping the same characters? Cause Dazai literally manipulated Chuuyas friends into betraying him which makes his hatred go atrociously huge. Yes, they trust and care for each other but that DOESNT make them go all lovely dovey 24/7. Chuuya is NOT somebody who just yells, hits, and be aggressive around Dazai, and Dazai is NOT a big boy who just defends chuuya like we barely even see him fight physically. Shipping them as an all toxic and abusive couple DOES NOT MAKE IT BETTER. I prefer to see them shipped as a distant yet happy yet toxic couple (like theyre cold and barely even talks with each other but when one has a problem the other gets involved /specifically abt mersault arc). And for THOSE skk shippers, please, PLEASE just fucking respect the other ships like wdym skk solos fyozai, kunizai, and all ships in bsd 🙏 well i mean i could say the same for all the other shippers not just in bsd but inother fandoms as well. Okay yappuccino /me
While I dont agree with the fact that Chuuya's life revolves around Dazai, and vice versa, I can't really blame the people that have that mindset. Don't get me wrong, Chuuya's life does not revolve around Dazai. He is his own character, with his own hardships, his own trauma, personality, his own friends, enemies, his own life. However, the only times we see Chuuya in the anime is when he's with, guess who, Dazai-from his first appearance, to the entirety of dead apple, the prison arc, and so on. The only moments I remember with Chuuya being with someone other than Dazai was him fighting Yosano and Kenji, and the celebration with Mori and Koyou at the end of the cannibalism. And, you'll never believe it, Dazai was mentioned in both of those scenes. What I'm trying to get across is the fact that, for some people, it might be very difficult to comprehend that Chuuya can exist without Dazai being there, as its literally never shown in the anime (the main piece of media bsd enjoyers consume). If I'm not wrong, then there aren't any other moments with Chuuya without Dazai in the main manga, either. Its funny, how you never see people saying that Dazai's life revolves around Chuuya, but you hear the opposite of that quite frequently. The reason for that is because, unlike with Chuuya, we see Dazai interact with a whole ton of different characters. Atsushi, Akutagawa, Mori, Q, Fyodor, Sigma, Kunikida, the entire ada as a whole, and of course Odasaku and Ango. We see him with so many different characters and we see the way his relationships with them work. As for Chuuya? ...well, we don't see much, if anything at all. I don't want to be ignorant and completely ignore the Sheep, the Flags, Adam nor Verlaine. They were a huge part in Chuuya's life, shaping him into the guy that he is now. The thing is, none of them stick around anymore. The flags are dead, Adam is creating an all android detective agency in Europe, Verlain is locked in a basement, and the Sheep dissolved. Even though Shirase and Chuuya did meet again and reconcile, Shirase very quickly left for Britain after that. We don't see any of them again with Chuuya. The same can be said about Oda, Ango and Dazai. But, unlike with Dazai and the lupin trio, we don't see who Chuuya connects with after his losses. Dazai after leaving the mafia has the ada, we see his relationship with Kunikida and Atsushi, for example. We have present time-line friendships with Dazai. With Chuuya, however, we don't see him with anyone at 22. We only briefly see him with Akutagawa, and that tells us literally nothing about how close they are or whatever. We see the relationships that Dazai formed now at 22, but radio silence from Chuuya. I do understand that, from the perspective of the main character and overall plot line, Dazai is more important of a character than Chuuya. He is directly linked with Atsushi and his growth as a person, while Chuuya is a way bigger side character. It make sense in that case that Dazai and his current life is more expanded on in the anime and manga than Chuuya's, it just sucks because of Chuuya's popularity in the fandom, and how most of his fans haven't read the light novels or anything. All of this causes them to really be blinded towards the prospect of Chuuya existing outside of Dazai, and honestly, I can't blame them that much for it. I can still blame them for mischaracterizing Chuuya as a super feminine, small, weak twink, though. That one's on them ^____^
The fact that chuuya is only seen with dazai also helps with the popularization of the mischaracterization that chuuya is "always angry", wich he isnt. But sadly my boy is only seen with dazai, and dazai tends to bring the worst in people, add that to the fact that a lot of anime only fans or skk shippers never read 15 era/stormbringer and in the end a character that has lots of personality, backstory, etc gets sumarized to "angry guy who loves wine" Uhh sorry for the long text also i may have lost my train of thought(english isnt my first language so idk whats the past of think, sorry again😭) but all i want is justice for Chuuya, people need to realize that he isnt dumb and that he isnt weaker than dazai
This video is pretty much the reason why I like to avoid fandoms as much as possible for a very good while after I get into something. The mischaracterization can get so bad at times and it ticks me off. Sometimes fanon can be really cool but I hate it when people simplify two characters just to ship them. Like please, I love these characters for their full and complex personalities, not who they're shipped with I very rarely ship characters tho And I loved Dead Apple for seeing Atsushi accepting that part of his past and overcoming his trauma, it was so awesome and I loved it, I had no clue the fandom made it all about soukoku
i really liked that one part where you asked "what happened? why it happened? and who's behind it?". i think that even just understanding those three can widen your perspective a lot more and appreciate it.
I love soukoku a lot, but until last week, had never read a single fanfic of them so i haven't seen much mischaracterization of them. I also didnt know people were this crazy. Why cant we just focus on the story? Its such a freaking masterpiece. I mean ship what you want but come, the story is waaay more captivating than the ship
As a Skk fan I completely understand and respect this video. One of my biggest takeaways from this, for me personally, is the topic of mischaracterization. Especially with Chuuya. See, I loved Skk and I loved Chuuya, so I wanted to write my first fanfic ever. I absolutely refused to put any words to my own work until I read everything about him. Storm bringer, Fifteen. The entire manga. The entire anime. Hell, even the plays, with what’s findable online. Obviously my writing of Chuuya still involves some head-canon, (it’s impossible to write fanfics without it) but taking the time to get to know something as much as you can before you speak on it is important. Great video as always, sending my support your way. ❤
BSD was never even meant to be about shipping. It’s not a romance story. It’s not even meant to be for kids. That’s not to say shipping in the fandom is entirely bad and shouldn’t exist. (I ship all kinds of things, SKK included.) But it’s come to a point where a loud portion of the fandom makes everything about SKK, or Chuuya, or Dazai, when they aren’t always the point. I love Chuuya, he’s one of my favorite characters, but he doesn’t need to come up in every conversation. Or Dazai for that matter. The amount of times I’ve seen people in comment sections on various platforms whining and complaining about a ship post not being about SKK or a regular post not including their personal favorite characters like Dazai or Chuuya is infuriating. At that point you’re just having bad fandom etiquette. If you want content for that specific ship or character, go find it, and spread your appreciation there. By complaining about a post not being about your favorite ship or character, you are only inadvertently putting down the creator who put time and effort into making their post, and taking their enjoyment out of being part of the fandom. (I’ve genuinely seen people come to hate certain characters or ships because of stuff like this.) The characters in BSD are amazingly well written, and all of them have something unique to offer. Including Dazai and Chuuya. That’s why it’s so important that we take the time to appreciate them, and not let one ship or character drown everything else out. (Apologies, this was a bit of a rant, I just needed to get it off my chest. 💀)
2:02 (Unnecesary fast and stupid analysis that came to my mind bc I can't be normal when people tell me the name E.A.Poe in a BSD context) I please you an analysis deeply on him, ¡¡he has so much hidden potential!! Even if like, 9 of his 10 scenes in the whole story are involved with Ranpo, directly or not, he has shown a lot of deep in his development, and Ranpo has A LOT connection to it. I've been rlly fond on why he transformed so fast from a literal maniac, ready to kill the principal living proof of his own defeats to literally becoming himself a tool and a right hand of that powerful figure as Ranpo is... Acutally, Ranpo is a very difficult character to see, because he normally has this effect on "taking out of the hole" the people around him: -He took away Fukuzawa's plans on working alone and funded with him the agency - He helped Yosano to see the light again and recover from the PTSD she had from the war - He has valued Kunikida more than once, the most resaltable moment just in the introduction of the Perfect Crime arc - He destroyed and rebuild again the whole character of Mushitaro, making the first step for Mushi to get thought the lost of Yoko - AND, THE REASON I'VE BEEN MENTIONING ALL OF THIS: Ranpo in his time of youth, when he was still learning of modesty, how to act in society and the right way to use his deductive power and arguments, caused the destruction of Poe's self-confidence in such a gigantic way for the sheer selfishness of the spotlight and validation (and that makes me wonder what Poe had at stake for that first Best Detective spot to have been so important?), but, the how in the second encounter, even if they have the same outcome, even if Ranpo still maintains that sneering trait in his character and destroys again Poe's minimal glimmer of hope for reasserting his value as a person in society and repairing his mistake of years ago, Ranpo's response to Poe is more gracious and hopeful. He does not tell Poe that he is better than him (so directly-) but "congratulates" him, values his effort, highlighted the true meaning of that battle of intellects 6 years ago mentioning a different and more mature point of view according to his development: While Poe always depicted that battle as a fight of a shadow against a powerful and impenetrable beam of light, Ranpo says that in reality both were on equal footing and their talents were exquisite, he said he was surprised by Poe's abilities. He respected him as an equal. And that's what I think is the nail in Poe's coffin: Respect. It seems as if he always seeks to meet the expectations proposed to him, if he is asked to remodel a whale skill from 0 for a fortress he will do it, if he is asked to go on an errand with the detective to finish a step of a bigger plan he will do it, if he is asked to support economically and strategically in an almost suicidal rescue operation he will do it, just for validation and respect from his loved ones. He hated Ranpo because he was the living image that he was worthless, that he was alone, no one would ever consider him in anything because there would always be someone better than him, he can be replaced... In the reunion 6 years later, that vision changes, the one he related to shame and revenge was now a light that told him "you have value, and I know you can do better", and this is my own thought but I think Ranpo replicates what he learned with those from the agency: Everyone gets a second chance, even him. From a traumatized orphan to a great tiger that lives around his weakness with couage and hope, from a suicidal monster to a detective in search of the value of life, from a mountain destroyer to a kind farm boy, from a lone assassin to an honorable leader, from a war healing weapon to a human willing to save lives ... from a lost child who feels abandoned in a world of monsters who do not know how to understand you and value what you really are ... to a person who understands that he is a unique individual who forges his own life. Poe is what Ranpo could have been if he did not know Fukuzawa, he is that living image of the pain of loneliness and resentment for lack of understanding, and Ranpo knows it, that is why he repaired his mistake of 6 years ago by hurting what little ego Poe was trying to forge. He really values Poe's talent and wishes he would improve for the better, that's why he tells him he wants to read his novels even though he doesn't like mystery books, that's why he visits him at his mansion in his spare time and keeps him the company he lacked for so many years, that's why he shows him affection in his own way (givng lolipops, inviting him to a party, etc) so he knows he is valued. I know I am talking a lot about Ranpo, but he is a catalyst for the development that we little notice in Poe of his personal history. The most beautiful thing is to see how the cycle of valuing and respect is repeated, now Poe also helps others in finding his personal value and tries to improve himself and forges a support network. That is noticeable in the middle chapter of Mushitaro's shelter, where you notice those small actions of support in pure E.A.Poe style towards Mushitaro so he can go peacefully overcoming the events of his friend ... that chapter shows how Poe is learning from what Ranpo teaches him, a legacy from person to person, small actions in your own way that can take meaning in someone lost... A stray raccoon in search of food and a home ... An action of love can change hatred and revenge to forgiveness and support. (Don't let it be known that I love the Ranpoe ... ok now I shoud finish the Soukoku video, this was a Soukoku video at first place wtf why I always need to introduce Poe in any topic help)
in my opininon even if dazi is part of everyone's stories and is portryed in every era. to me it always feels like it's never about himself like we are missing something so crusial about his story like we know so much about him but we know nothing about him at the same time he's part of every story but never the main character and akutagawa's case is so peculier to me becuse in fandom's opinion he is someone who dosen't deserved to be treated like how dazi treated him and i kinda thought that too untill i read the light novel best becuse in that novel we clearly see how destructive he naturally is hell we even get his inner dialogues at the start and they were filled nothing but rage and distruction and it's funny to me that fandom thinks dazi is the reson for akutagawa's every action when he started killing people littrally as a child like AKUTAGAWA HAS HIS OWN PERSONALLITY !!?? i'm not really trying to justify dazi's actions here he himself won't agree what he did was right like he said so when talking to atushi after the diracter of the church died he never justified diracters actions and it almost seems like he was talking about himself (english is not my fisrt language btw)
Exactly! The relationship between Dazai and Akutagawa is more complex than it seems especially with the fact that Dazai himself was also pretty young when he took in the guy. That's why it's one of the most compelling dynamics in the series for me. Unfortunately, the fandom can't seem to see that.
ok like i need to finish this video but one of the aspects of skk that annoys me is the fact that chuuya's feminised and twinkified to hell and back 💀look at him, look at his ability.... thank you for pointing it out
This, I also hate when people hc him as trans simply bc he's short and a pretty boy, I feel like it's such a bad stereotype (just like tall buff woman = must be trans)
@anamelchior7194 tbh, chuuya does look somewhat masculine- especially in the anime- so the hc isn't as bad imo. but yeah, the idea of him being short equating to transness is odd, since the real nakahara was short anyway.
@@irusomo1012 I agree that he's masculine, but fans keep feminizing him on fanworks and it's pretty annoying, not as much on the basis of the trans hc as on the pushing heteronormativity on queer relationships, but still. Don't get me wrong btw, I have nothing against trans hcs, except when they're based on shitty stereotypes as I've mentioned
Honestly I never saw Soukoku on my first watch, my friend who got me into bsd basically explained it to me. When watching first, my first ship was Kunikdazai and that friend went "NO soukoku exists!" and I was so confused because I did not see it. Honestly I love the fact that Chuuya gets his own Lns he's one of my favorite characters and seeing most of his moments getting pushed to Dazai made me sad. I made a poll about bsd stuff and made sure when I made it to reinforce the message that if this poll was gonna be discussed to not yell or fight over choices, it felt horrible that I even had to put that in there...
I love this video! I'm a Dazai stan since I'm in the fandom (so 6,5 years now) and a soukoku shipper, BUT I love most of the characters (my second favourite is Fukuzawa) so yeah, I totally get what you're talking about, and the funny part is, it annoys even me too 😅 I'm a veteran in this fandom, I saw many trends on twitter from Chuuya's misscharacterization (from uwu bottom Chuuya to making Dazai the uwu bottom) and man... It's so hard to find a longer fic, when they catch their real vibes. Also the tiktok fandom's takes..Sometimes I feel like, I've read an another book/manga, but honestly, I think it's right because sometimes I see the "Chuuya is a robot" bullshit on tiktok (for those, who don't know- this was from a misstranslation from the storm bringer, in 2021, but it was debunked in 2 days right after it was posted. So like, those who still spredding this, literally doesn't read anything else from the book, most likely just read a comment, and it's just pains me because why would he a robot when literally the second main character of the book is AN ANDROID, who was the main counterpart of the story). I also hate how they outshines the other characters. Beast is the best example, you collected really well the the things about it, so I would just tqke an another exqmple- 55 minutes. It's one of the best, if not the best light novel in the series, and got nothing- and I'm sure, the reason is because Chuuya just doesn't appear in it xdd But maybe in the future, for years I thought untold story also forgotten.. so maybe.. (I would die for an adaptation, I want to see Verne fully) Also, I feel like I should thank your respectful tone. Like I said, I'm part of the worst part of the fandom, while I'm a nerd, so I often got (sometimes personally) attacked by the more nerdier part of the fandom, because I like this ship/Dazai. He's well written, Chuuya is well written, they have a great dynamic, what I personally enjoy, but this doesn't make me any less of a fan of the other characters, ships. I've read half of the light novels, personally my favourite is the Untold story and the 55 minutes, so yeah, I know this series as much as other nerdier fans, I don't like it when people talks about "my type of people" like the stupid ones lol So really, thank you for being respectful ❤ (And also, sorry for grammatical errors, english is not my first language)
I’m sorry, I know it only lasted for like two seconds but I appreciated the “Mori is normal” part of the video. 😭 Okay that aside, what you were talking about is definitely something I've seen. Especially what you said at the end about the loud ones drowning out the good ones. It happens a lot in BSD, and I really hope it doesn't get blown up and become really toxic.
I’m actually really glad that the bsd fandom hype is starting to die down. My worst nightmare is it turning out like the mha fandom (especially the shipping culture).
I think Chuuya would get along with Poe, and yasino for poems and wine and he would shit talk with kunikida about dazai I wish there were more fanfics where he has more relationships because he lost a lot of friends and I feel like he should have more
@@svt796 Agreeeeed, I honestly think if they were both relieved from their duties for one day and put in a room together, they would actually get along nicely due to their mutual disdain for Dazai
Lol I can’t believe they actually thought Chuuya lacks focus bcs of SKK. That’s just ridiculous. SKK definitely steals spotlight from everyone else, but not Chuuya. Have you seen how this fandom (especially SKK shippers) loses it over just 1 second of Chuuya on screen in the trailer? Worrying about Chuuyas popularity is just the funniest thing I’ve ever heard
Ilysm 😭I love skk but tbh the only headcanon of them that I have is that Dazai once gave him chocolates for valentines under the excuse it's toxic for dogs 😭😭😭 I swear I literally cry when other skk fans hate on Yuan bc she held Chuuya's arm bc I literally love her sm and I like to think she's silly 😭 but oh well- I swear I love hearing you talk, please don't get turned into a ice cream cone
Had to let out a laugh at calling Atsushi and Dazai fat f*cks (Ranpo caught a stray too lol) since bones refuses to animate them as anything other than skinny minnie 🥺boys Really cool video with a lot of good points!!
hi! i loved the video! speaking of stormbringer though.. i think most skk fans simply don’t actually read the source material at all, because i have been seeing them say that chuuya’s original ability was an amplifier one? which makes absolutely no sense because the one with that ability was a kid who ended up getting sucked in by a black hole after activating amplification for the first time. chuuya was kidnapped by n precisely because he was a gravity manipulation user, which would make him perfect to be a vessel for arahabaki…
It's complicated. It's arguably implied Chuuya was the kid with the amplification, since N is a lying liar who lies, the kid's ability literally created a black hole (aka exactly what Corruption does), Chuuya's gravity power is explained to be due to the gravitational pull created by a singularity rather than an inherent thing, Chuuya's parents were told he was dead (much like how N said the kid was killed), and N says Chuuya is the only case which actually worked (which would make sense if it was his power to start with). It all points to the kid being a young Chuuya and N claiming the kid died to hide/obscure his true origins, much like how he lied about Chuuya being a clone. The stageplay actually comes out and says Chuuya was that kid, though its canonicity is dubious.
You singlehandedly helped me explain to myself why, even tho Dazai is my favourite character and I got into the show mainly because of "No Longer Human", I still can't force myself to love Soukoku as much as I feel I should. I still have yet to read the light novels, because I'm fairly new here, but the anime alone just couldn't make me fall in love with Chuuya, which is a shame, because he's such a charismatic and multifaceded character. Somehow I found myself obsessing over SSKK instead, I'm guessing because the show makes you care about both in their individuality and their relationships with other people, and there is a huge development in the canon itself - there is just something mesmerizing in learning to fight alongsize your rival to the point you trust him with your greatest weakness. That said, this trope is true to Corruption, too, so I'm just confusing myself why it doesn't feel the same to me. So you may be right it's just that Chuuya is mainly viewed through the prism of being Dazai's partner, which removes a lot of the impact of his own character. Nevertheless, I love them both and I'm hopeful the light novels are gonna fill up that missing potential of the anime for me when I get to them.
@@mkklit4525 Hm, I gave this some thought and actually, fair point, I was kinda just seeking out more fanfics to read and since it's the most popular ship y'know I figured why not just learn to love it and there you go - easy entertainment for days on end. Alas it didn't work out quite like that. Don't get me wrong, I still like them a lot, just not to the same lengths as other of my obsessions. But you're right I shouldn't force myself to love things just because it's popular.
honestly, the reason I h8 SKK is simply bc EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME I look at other ships w/ them theres at least a couple comments like "oh what would chuuya think" "what about chuuya" like SHUT THE FUCK UP????
Same tbh, I don’t really hate SKK and it can probably be a good ship but the fans can really spoil your opinion on it, especially when it’s those random comments on other ship videos. Sometimes SKK videos come up which bash the other ships too…
this but the other way around, whenever i go searching for purely chuuya content all i see is skk and blatant mischaracterisation, or as you mentioned looking at other chuuya ships and all the comments are about dazai. LIKE GET DAZAI OUTTA HEREEEE 😞
The Akutagawa love is so real as well as sskk love. When I first started bsd I liked skk more over any ship until I went deeper into other ships and fell in love with Less popular ships. I am a only going to say this once for "those" skk or dazai fans. The show does not revolve around thwm. If anything dazai is basically a side character compared to sskk. Each season has it had its main character or characters. (you saying you need to rail fyodor..)
I’d love to hear you talk about lightnovels suck as stormbringer, 15, beast and the less talked about ones like gaiden, entrance exam, 55 minutes (I’ve seen quite literally nothing on the latter 3 masterpieces what the actual freak) as I recently finished the lightnovels! Tdipud…. Untold origins…. Aaaa they’re all so underrated !! I am trying to go read some irl author books and am looking for recommendations as well. I agree for the most part with the video, and this did need to be said!
The light novels are so good though??? Why do so many people not read them? (I mentioned in a previous comment I basically try to solely look for canon accuracy, which usually means I need light novel content in them. And recently I even read something where they got the light novel 15! Events correct! It made me so fucking happy 😭)
Do you know where I could find them online? I live in a small town and often can't get access to anime manga/novels or get bullied by my family for liking it so I read all of it online. I've had trouble finding the real ones multiple times and am trying to avoid scam sites as best I can.(if not it's perfectly fine I understand!!)
Oooh yes! I understand that completely. As for online, there’s probably more sources than this but Scribd is where I was able to read a few of the light novels. You don’t have to sign in to read, but in that case there will be adds every few pages that you’ll just have to wait load and then click away. Also, while 15! is on this website, it doesn’t seem to let people read it so…and I don’t know if it has The Day I picked Up Dazai Osamu yet. But I’m pretty sure it has most of the rest, even Gaiden. Hope this helps!
I can split my interpretation of SKK in 2 ways canon and fanon. The canon is that rather than romantically as from what I interpret in canon Dazai seems more aroace (just because someone flirts around doesn't mean they are serious at it,; Bruce Wayne from DC, his Brucie persona is a playboy, but he isn't really interested in pursuing anything romantic.), Dazai and Chuuya have this weird on-and-off relationship that can be read as romantic and platonic, but rivals and allies simultaneously. My fanon interpretation can shift from fic to fic depending on the fic and how good the fic is. However, my favourite skk interpretation fanon, at least, is by the writer YunaYamiMouto on Ao3.
YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!! btw i don't think i've said this enough but the way you are SO articulate with all of this makes me insane. you're one of if not the most well-read and intelligent people i know.. your analysis and ideas and ability to put things together makes me want to show up at your house with a bouquet of flowers and my favorite books and a 6 pack of monster energy so we can have a yap session together. SHAKES YOU SHAKES YOU SHAKES YOU SHAKES YOU SHAKES YOU!!!!!!!!
As someone who started watching bsd because of soukoku and ended being a multi shipper who likes kunizai more (please no one dox me I still live with my parents cuz I'm broke) I ended up falling in love with the Anime, constantly finding myself reading the books made by the real writers and some the manga and light novels i could find online (again I'm broke ) to better understand and love a character. Chuuya is a great and well-written Character that I like (I obsesse over Nikolai more then Chuuya again please no one dox me😭) that being said he is his own person, he can have interactions with other people and is no where near weak, he is the god of chaos and in fact he is so powerful it over takes him, gets out of control to the point he does need Dazai's help as to not fall in madness from being the god of chaos or more accurately having that power. Then again I am just some RANDOM nerd who is also a girl on the internet so who cares right! (The part about me being a girl is simply for the sexist people)
You're right! He is not weak at all! In fact, when you remember how much he hates (and possibly loves idk) Dazai, it's cool to see him put his pride and anger aside and ask the person who enrages him the most for help. Because his ability could quite possibly destroy the world if it gets out of hand and he can't reel it in on his own. I think that shows a more mature side of him. (Also... fellow multishipper and Kunizai shipper spotted👀)
Omg NOT EXACTLY RELATED BUT ON THE TOPIC OF MISCHARACTERIZATION!! I see the word being thrown around so much now that people are now using it on harmless fandom in jokes that were never meant to be taken seriously😭
This video aged like wine because Asagiri confirmed recently that they hate each other and wants to focus on other duos development. Have you thought on doing a video about that? And the impact it can have in the fandom in the future?
where part of me would love to analyse the whole interview (because it really was amazing to read), I think what I said still stands pretty firm. Soukoku DID take the attention away from other characters (mainly Kunikida) and Asagiri just wants more of the others as well and I admire his transparency. As far as the ship and shippers go, I don’t think them hating each other really matters or will affect them in any way, which is really good!! I don’t see much of a change occurring in the fandom any time soon, but I’m happy my read on the situation was correct and that’s all I think needs to be said here :)
@@Cashexists Hi! Thanks for your response. 🤩 About the interview I would like to see a whole analysis, but if you don't want to, don't worry. I'm a spanish bsd content creator and I did my own analysis but just focusing on them and also made a brief analysis of the recent stories Asagiri made to understand why he said that. And about the skk shippers, I think you didn't understand me. 😅 I was talking about the toxic side of them. In my video I said that I think they will stop being toxic since they don't have more reasons to keep fighting over ships. Most of the spanish skk shippers that watched my video commented that they are tired of them and some left their community just because of them. That really puts into perspective how bad things were.
I make videos about this ship rather often because I like it, and I try to keep it a mix of canon and fanon specifically for this reason, like it makes me so mad when people make Chuuya someone incapable of being independent and Dazai a h-rny alpha male with no personality, these two are so well written and could actually have a good couples dynamic if people stopped mischaracterising them, like when I see those types of videos my question is did we watch the same show? I’m so glad people actually agree with this honestly😭
lol reminds me of the time I got my mom hooked on JJK 😭 and currently forcing my friends to remember certain character lines like Nikolai’s bird/murder speech, they can’t escape my BSD ramblings
REALLY HYPED FOR THE PREPPY AND AESTHETIC KUNIKIDA EPISODE!!!! (if it happens ofc) ALSOALSO PLSPLS can u do a video about higuchi or kouyou? theyre my favs and criminally underrated
I love skk. I wrote my very first fic about them. But I also love the other characters. I love how much attention and time is dedicated to them. It makes me sad that all that writing is either ignored or misinterpreted by so many people. Those misinterpretations spread like viruses. People see one point of view and think it’s the correct or only point of view, weaponizing their ignorance to harass others who offer a contrary opinion. This kind of harassment can be very scary. It bullies people off a platform and makes others who feel the same way scared to speak up. This kind of hive mentality leaves a bad impression on people interested in the fandom as well as other people. It’s one of the reasons normal fans of say, Hazbin Hotel or MHA can’t say what interests them out loud because their fandoms are so toxic that it’s what people know them for. I would hate to see that happen to BSD-a story reduced to being for angry and obsessive teenage girls on Tumblr.
I absolutely LOVE soukoku, but THANKS for this video. A part of the fandom is getting incredibly wild and it’s kinda sad. I mean- to me at least, the ship is very good, but… the mischaracterization of Dazai and Chuuya is not as good 😭
As someone that is a lucy×atsushi ,kuni×dazaistinckyhusband,i'm in the trenchs and soukoku fans sending propaganda against any ship for dazai outside of chuuya make me feel like i'm surrounded by whiny kids instead of readers that try to understand characters outside of the popular ship ,(pushing the whole cast for thier ship to be the remaining focus is bad since the world doesn't revolve around these two )i'v seen many instances and many such cases of ppl not caring for anyone outside of these two and it makes me sad since atsushi ,kunikida ,yusano ,Kyoko, aktagawa, and my gaot Fitzgerald (fuck his real counterpart),and more deserve more discussion and love about them ,DON'T get me started on ppl comparing the real authors to the characters for shipping, mind you these are dead ppl we're talking about who still has alive relatives ☠️
i love soukou, it is one of my favorite ships but i also ship dazai with so many other people as well (i dont with akutagawa, arsushi, mori, fukuzawa, oda, ango ect) i dont understand why people wont let others ship dazai with anyone other chan chuuya, its not like they are actually in a relationship.
@meh4294 Here's my two cents; You aren't wrong about the first part. I've come to realize that a large portion of the fandom are young. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But hear me out, the Steven Universe fandom was notorious for it's toxicity. Why? Because it consisted mostly of kids. With not fully developed brains. Those people who try to push skk onto you are likely also young teenagers. (Please understand that I'm not trying to say that all young BSD fans [or BSD fans in general] are immature teenagers, I'm saying that a lot of them tend to be and I think that's part of how the skk-pocolypse gained such intensity.)
Tattoo this video script on my forehead thank you. I fell off of bsd after season 2 because of the fans being annoying about soukoku (I just didn’t see anything special in Chuuya). But now I’m obsessed the light novels made such a big difference and I am a Chuuya liker (derogatory) now. Asagiri’s writing is so fantastic and it’s so sad how it gets eclipsed by such shitty interpretations and self indulgent cherry picking of the content. You’re doing the lord’s (Fyodor’s) work. 🖤🖤🖤
omg i actually love your videos so much!!!! i was kinda wondering if you could make a whole video on bsd women and how watered down they are in the fandom or how they get unnecessary hate for “getting in the way of ships.”
@@ilovedoomedyaoi real like wth did yuan do?? She js held onto chuuya's arm and she was his FRIEND, in the 15 manga it was literally shirase who did it but no one said that he had a crush on chuuya
Oh god, oh no, please let's not talk about Beast skk. Chūya barely appears in that LN and yet Ao3 is full of tragic Skk bullshit. I hate it so much. Beast is amazing but it's not about Chūya and Dazai, it's as little about their relationship as possible. I blame the Beast movie for this, I can't, I hate this fandom so much.
I got into BSD a while ago but I think this can also play a role with pjo as well. I’ve been a fan for over six years and I keep seeing so many headcanons and fanfics where Leo Valdez and Nico Di Angelo are trans with like 1 million side sexualities. Like please, just leave them alone. They lost pretty much their entire original personalities to turn into only being gay and trans😭
This kinda reminds me of when my girlfriend was getting into BSD and I told them that I do enjoy skk just not in the way their ship and honestly them as characters as well are often portrayed by the fandom and this video is pretty much exactly why. 😭 I even remember telling them that I love Dazai very differently too because you know, similarly to what you mentioned some things irk me about him whether it be the fact people fixate on Dazai or a ship so much that they ignore other characters entirely, or the fact that he’s just so heavily not understood and is often treated like a walking joke. I’m sure a big part of it is that BSD as a fandom isn’t small by any means anymore, so with big fandom comes people who are inevitably going to act a little… odd. It’s just how it is. Also the pain of being a multishipper because I enjoy many different dynamics and relationships, both romantic and platonic, and there are absolutely some shippers will actually beat your ass in the qrts just for not liking a ship, much less saying that it’s not your favorite. 😭 insane that ships becomes more important than the characters to the point of harassing people just because they like ships other than skk for example.
As a Poe kinnie, yesss! He is obsessed with Ranpo, yes, but that's *because* of his desire to be better! He's insecure of his own talents because even if he's good there are people better than him, and he takes that hard and feels underappreciated. Therefore, he dedicates so much towards trying to best Ranpo BECAUSE HE LOOKS UP TO HIM! HIS ATTITUDE TOWARDS RANPO IS A MIX OF HIS ADMIRATION AND A MANIFESTATION OF HIS OWN INSECURITY! He's not just "mmmmh Ranpo" (valid though, Ranpo is very mmm), he has desires and goals and motives outside of him, Ranpo is just the object of his admiration and therefore also his rival because of how Poe's brain works.
@@Slightly_Obsessive omg bless you so much, as a Poe kinnie too. Poe is the embodiment of People who are still trying to be the best. Also his obsession was never really stated as romantic. (In my opinion It was Ranpo who actually likes Poe rather than Poe to Ranpo. Though he May didn’t know his name, Ranpo saw Poe back then as a challenge. And that Excites him that in his POV that he’s sees Poe above him. Poe saw the aftermath ((his failures)) while Ranpo saw the journey to it ((His talents as a detective)) and the ranpoe demons have been consuming me for years now.)
@@Slightly_Obsessive honestly If I have the time, I want to actually analyze Poe's character and look more into the books he's actually based on. Also fearing for his life bc asagiri is starting to like Poe /hj
Thank you for this video! As someone who formerly ran a bigass skk fanart acc, I can confirm on how toxic skk fans can be (Myself included). Skk had such a strong chokehold on me for almost two years that I didn't notice how toxic my environment became. My wake up call was how people (tatamana, even convincing me to participate and mod a topzai event) started h*rassing about how I should draw more nsfw fanarts of them. It made me so uncomfortable to the point I had to take a 1 month hiatus and leave BSDtwt for good- I gen loved skk, it fr helped me through though times as my coping mechanism but because of what happened I can't help but revolt whenever the topic of skk or bsd in general comes up.
I’m just seeing this comment now and my jaw is on the floor. Fandoms are supposed to bring people together and seeing them turn into this cycle of hate and negativity is sickening. A ship is supposed to be shared in a positive light but people are turning it into something horrible and forceful. I’m so sorry to hear what you had to go through here and what so many people will if we don’t change
Honestly I am a huge shipper and a multishipper but you make a good point. I enjoy bsd because of all the complex and well written characters. I admit I do ship skk. But what you say about how character say that Chuuya don't have a life outside of Dazai when people are shipping him is so true. I love how you mention the sheep and the other characters. Never read the light novel but i am so open to different interpretation of things.
No, it's kinda sad nobody reads the lightness because asagiris writing is top notch! Like, I'm pretty sure it's chapter 22 or somewhere around volume 4 where you get that glimpse of the official lightnovel translation where dazai meets Akutagawa for the first time! It sent chills down my spine! I really want to read the light novels and I am! Except... I've heard very sad things about Stormbringer. So I'm avoiding it after... beast and f*cking happy sugar life... The day I met Dazai however is an amazing read. Honestly, why did I pair beast BSD w/ Happy Sugar Life. What a traumatizing combo.
Im going to be so real- I do not like the shipping community for most anime. I come from the genshin and hsr fandoms, where shipping is a code word for mischaracterization and f$tishizing queer people. Shipping is fine, but why are we ignoring the lore? Its so weird
I have failed you, Cash is Alive.........(I'm only seeing the video now) I really like how in the video you talk about the fandom in a practically "real" way, a not so good part of the fandom tends to stereotype incredible characters and simply leave aside wonderful characters or simply put them as "villains". It's something that really irritates me, and you certainly took and brought more words to my mind, your videos help me understand more about characters that I really like and I would love to learn more about their personalities and their pasts. I watched this video while I was having lunch, it made my lunch a lot better! I don't know how to put it into words properly and mainly because I'm using a translator, but overall, I really liked the video please don't get exploded by a lemon
I love you so much for this! As much as i love skk, i hate the way they're (especially chuuya) are mischaracterized. I also hate the fact that anything that even mildly mentions chuuya/dazai turns into the entire thing about them. We see it in stormbringer where most(not all) people talk about dazai living in a shipping container and how he was there for chuuya. First of all, this is about chuuya. Second of all, how can a person focus more on the ship and their interactions more than what the actual novel is trying to portray. Do you not understand or try to understand that this is about chuuya's past!? Do you not see the absolutely horrifying things that happen in it other than your cute little ship!? We also see it beast, where in the ln and manga chuuya doesn't have many scenes (only one or two as i remember) but many people just talk about how chuuya has to be the next pm boss replacing his old friend- i get it, it's sad and all but can we focus on how Atsushi and akutagawa are fighting their own struggles and now are burdened by the task of saving the world? Can we just focus on the main issue at hand? AND now we also see it in the main manga. When in yokohama, Fyodor is literally killing everyone who is in front of him, atsushi is having a quarter life crisis, feels alone and abandoned and is desperately trying to find a way to stop this, some people are doing what they always do- wondering what their precious skk might be doing. I get it. I genuinely do. They are important to the plot, how and what they do to stop this world from getting destroyed and save their friends is really important. BUT not in the way some people portray it to be. I've seen some people commenting (not on here) that they must be out on a date and doing the boombayah. I'm like WHAT? Their friends are dying and this is what you care about? That being said, thank you for reading this absolute rant of a comment 🫶
(CHAPTER 118 SPOILERS) THANK YOU I absolutely HATE how much this fandom villainizes the Sheep. Yeah, they turned on Chuuya, but can you blame them? They were just scared kids who got tricked into losing trust in a friend. Even so, they still cared for him. And the Kenji death thing. I've seen Chuuya angst when they don't even know each other like that. Not saying you can't bring up the promise to get a drink together when Kenji's old enough, but there so much more to talk about. Like how Atsushi was impacted, the reactions of everyone that knew him when they get the news, or I don't know, KENJI?! He's only 14, meaning he had a whole life ahead of him. And despite knowing that he was gonna die, he STILL kept a smile and tried to be positive. Sorry for the yap session, but I love Kenji and no one talks about him or his character. Anyway, once again great video!
@@witchbetelgeuse Not sure whether or not you were joking when you said to yap more, but okay. Here are some observations and stuff(117 AND 118 SPOILERS): 1) No one talks about how strong Kenji is, physically and mentally. He literally solo'd a Hunting Dog and it goes untalked about. He can also move mountains. Lost his best friend at 13 or 14 but kept going. 2) Kenji's positivity stems from two things: how dangerous his ability is when he's angry and his ideology that everything comes in halves. In BEAST he told Akutagawa that when his friends were killed they passed on their good halves to him. Maybe that's why when Kenji died he had a look of determination, because he was giving his good halves to Atsushi. 3) If Kenji's strength only works when he's hungry, does that affect his eating habits? 4) So far the ADA members who have been killed are Kunikida, Tanizaki, and Kenji. Remember who they were with when they Hunting Dogs were after them? Yosano. Imagine how she'll feel when she discovers that despite doing everything in her power to keep them safe in the HD arc they were killed anyway. Not only that, but she was the second ADA member. This means she was there as the agency grew and she gained people who she genuinely cared for only to lose them one by one. Yosano was unable to protect the people who valued her as a person rather than for her ability. 5) A duo I never really noticed until 117 is Kunikida and Tanizaki. When Kunikida was killed Tanizaki was FURIOUS which made me wonder how close they really are. There are multiple scenes where they are together. Going back to the Hunting Dogs arc for a sec, we all know the part where Kunikida jumps out of the helicopter and seemingly blows up. Tanizaki's reaction really stood out to me with him yelling out Kunikida's name. There has to be more to their relationship, I hope it gets expanded on soon.
I had to argue recently with someone on Tik Tok because how dare I like KuniZai and they started calling me names, because Kunikida is toxic for the poor innocent Dazai??
@@Jun-Ana Wtf I would have been less surprised if they said that Dazai was toxic for Kunikida, who must either have the strength of a god or his sanity is barely hanging on by a thread because I would NOT be able to tolerate Dazai for more than ten minutes
I thank you for Actually doing this, cause I for real agree with you whole Heartly when watching this. For me it's mostly how People interpret SKK alot. Like No problems with the ship in all, Just..Wow 13:40 And fr Thank you FOR MENTIONING THIS!!
I personally like soukoku, I just hate how some people in the fandom try to make it into the end all be all of BSD and that those same people steamroll right over others when they want to talk about something different.
You describe my thoughts about this topic so well! I love Soukoku, be it platonic or romantic, and I just hate seeing people mischaracterizing them. It's a lot of fun making memes, especially about the Dead Apple incident, but people find it so hard to believe that they're people outside of their ship too! I like the little head cannons of the two being close as teens, because I like to see them have a little happiness too.. I'm still in the midst of reading Stormbringer, so I can't say I have the most perfect grasp on either of the two characters, which is why I don't partake in a lot of discussions just yet, but its infuriating when someone says 'That isn't right.' to a perfectly valid point without any proof. And THANK YOU for not blaming it on Soukoku themselves, I see so many people always complaining about how overrated the ship is, and how it ruined the anime, yet none of them have any good reason outside of saying, 'ThEy'Re ToXiC', but you've done such a great job at explaining the why and the how! I'm genuinely really impressed, I haven't met a more reasonable BSD fan online.
This interpretation about the soukoku micharectization makes a lot of sense! :D #1 Coming from someone who was heartbroken when their headcanons got crushed, the point of letting go of the character personality YOU created can be extremely hard! I remember making a whole FNAF AU before the release of Security Breach, and when it did appear, I was extremely disappointed to see the actual personality and backstory of Vanny being completely different from my interpretation :( When you have no info, you create and theorize, and when you put THAT much energy on a fanwork, all your creativity feels useless when something contradicts it. 2# I agree with the "laziness" part. I'm a nerd and a writer, I would feel offended as hell if someone took an extremely complex character of mine and made it just a poor softie. But, at the same time, if someone exaggerated a characteristic for humor, I would consider it hilarious, I mean, isn't that part of the experience on being on a fandom? #3 The Dazai overshadowing phenomenon is so real. I may kin him, but I despise that too. You have an amazing scene going on, and you are looking at the silly bandaged guy? Is fine if is your favorite, but c'mon 💀
#4 12:49 NOT THE CREEPY SOUND ON THE "DEAD APPLE ACCIDENT" TITLE LMAOO 😭 #5 YES YES! I feel so offended about how soukoku absorbs everything about them. I like the ship, I LOVE the ship even! But, the way people just talk more about them than Akutagawa/Atsushi on media that is LITERALLY dedicated to them is just too much >:'/ Yes, you can make fanfics about them on those specials, but they aren't the protagonists there. It is true that Chuuya went ballistic after Dazai's death on BEAST and that it got cut on the manga, but Chuuya's wasn't that important on that story to begin whit. And yes, Dazai was important, he did that outta desesperation and the scene almost made me cry. Yet, the story is centered on Shin Soukoku, not on Dazai, Dazai is the explanation of why the roles got inverted but not the main focus.
i haven’t watched the video yet bc it’s 4am and i’m reading comments, and i haven’t really been involved with the bsd fandom outside of like… tumblr. i had no idea people perceived chuuya as dependent on dazai??? it’s so weird to me, if anything i would view it as the other way around (but even still, dazai would probably be clingy in an over dramatic way imo) chuuya is most definitely his own character, and skk literally had YEARS with no contact. even before that happened, chuuya had his own goals and motivations separate from dazai (granted i still haven’t finished stormbringer because college) and reading some of these comments on the general mischaracterization from skk is somewhat baffling i’ll probably add whatever random thoughts later once i finish the video but for now yeahhhh
Soukoku is definitely one of my favorite BSD ships, but most people who ship them completely remove their personalities and write the story with different parts (VERY different) and that gets on my nerves, not to mention that basically any ship fandom has a toxic part, but I think that what makes a ship good is not the shippers and the headcanons, but what is canonized
I'd love your sskk ship video. because like platonic soulmates 100 percent behind in main canon. Beast canon I definitely see it more. Then again as a mostly anime only (reading the manga slowly). The only standard ship I do is probably Ranpoe. Like SSK are the "bitter", angsty ex homoerotic friendship vibes (very stereotypical lesbian media coded). Now do i enjoy people's shipping AU's where some of these characters are together. Totally.
But also there are times that I wish there was a similar concept in more of a josei. Because it has felt weird that you have a cast of extremely traumatized adult characters and sexual dynamics have played almost zero part. (Like who is hypersexual, who is extremely sex repulsed, etc)
I actually watch the bsd anime with my mom I feel called out (I’m thinking of buying the manga but I’d have to get some more money but I already have 6 books of the wan and I know it’s not canon but it’s cute and I like it😓😓)
I'm still not over the fact that Cuuya gets an entire novel about his backstory and then in the Anime/Manga shows up mostly with Dazai. Imagine people seeing Chuuya without Dazai and socialising with others. I get why not many read the LN because lazy, dyslexia etc. But maaaan. (I'm dyslexic so yeah it took me forever to finish stormbringer. Good book even so the relationship with Chuuyas friends was pretty underwhelming to me because it was soooo obvious what their fate was.)
mischaracterization aside. I don't really like reading fanon and fanfiction myself. But I just cant help but put the spotlight on Dazai and Chuuya myself. Idk I just find them and their character and stories and bond the most intresting and it kinda blurrs out the other things in the show. And I don't really understand when people from the fandom say they don't like them😶 (Not trying to offend just saying what I feel. I love all the other ships and characters but soukoku is the spotlight of the show for me)
An honorable mention: The 55 Minutes light novel. It’s often forgotten about because it doesn’t include (CHUUYA) in it. I didn’t even know that it existed until a couple of months ago??? Nobody talks about it 😨😨??
I always like adding ‘I think’ to something it’s always good to clarify if something is your thoughts or cannon 😋 But I know how bad ships get but god it’s so horrible. I’ve personally loathe reading manga online but I don’t have money to buy manga books so I just listen to others yap((really bad habit I know but I prefer my comfort over not enjoying something)) Then yeah I love Soukoku! Buts it’s more than about them, I’ve never been able to watch the movie only because I feel lonely watching movies alone on the tv.(waiting for my friend to finish season two so we can watch together 🥰) But I didn’t really know the plot of the movie and it is my fault for not looking into it, I wouldn’t make it about them if I had actually looked into it. And that’s a point that needs to be made. (I feel like I’m just yapping 😅) Also I really love Soukoku and their characters while not able to afford or be able to read manga online without mentally draining myself I love hearing their stories their characters. I don’t get exactly why people have to be shipped biased but I do understand biased as Dazai’s abuse./training towards Akutagawa was my reason to be biased against Dazai. I’ve learned Dazai’s character yet I’m still learning to accept the fact that I like him as a character. I’ve always hated popular characters(not for them for how much they appeared) I miss the point- also I had self loathing mixed in since I kin Dazai. ((This is a lot I really like talking hope you understand)) Chuuya I’ve always appreciated and hope when I can afford the mental strain (or money wise) of reading the manga then I can understand him more than I do now. I’ve always thought ships needed some sort of knowledge of who the character is((hypocritical of me bc I shipped the characters then learned to love them separately)) THANK YOU FOR READING WHEREVER YOUA RE IN LIFE HANG IN THERE LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE
I don't know if this makes any sense, but I, while I like skk, only ship their fanon version. So when I read fanfic about them I don't think of them as their canon version, again idk if this makes any sense whatsoever 😭
I love love love skk and sskk (I also love Atslucy) but I also really don't get why people get so mad?? For one, Atslucy is wayyy more likely to become canon than sskk, like what are they gonna do, raid Asagiri's house when it inevitably happens? And, someone not liking the same ship as you doesn't make the ship you like any less valid, they act as if someone shipping a character with anyone other than the fan favorite is gonna take their favorite ship away lmao. None of it actually matters.
"KENJI FUCKING DIED AND WE'RE MAKING IT ABOUT CHUUYA" CRYING LMAOO😭
“Evil French brother that lives in a basement” I can’t breathe 😭
Just realised the irony of a character the fandom cannot perceive as existing outside of shipping living in a SHIPPING CONTAINER…..
4:16 Guys he likes wine, he’s not an alcoholic 😭😭
Fr hes just a lightweight doesnt mean he gets drunk ALL THE TIME it just means he gets drunk EASILY 😭😭
Another fact about Chuuya’s character said in a interview:
Were there any other memorable characters?
This is totally not a jab at those, my bad for not clarifying
2. the person i mentioned has proof in that thread. regardless of the person they are, tatamana roleplays with minors and that's a fact.
That is the day, where human hypocracy reached it's peak
damn, you know the fanbase of a ship is huge when there's people who only are in the fandom for a ship and nothing else... that's crazy
I think some of this is that dazai is SUCH a popular fave and people tend to focus on the characters they care about rather than others which unfortunately leaves some great characters to be neglected 😢 (JUSTICE FOR ATSUSHI AND CHUUYA!!!!)
Can't deny that.
I mean dazai, ranpo and chuuya are characters that can steal the spotlight.
This is a very good vid, tysm for posting it
Chuyya has been my favorite character since season 1 and I HATE the way that the fandom treats him.
Justice for chuuya
4:20 in the fandom's defence, chuuya opened more than 80 bottles of wine when dazai left the Mafia to celebrate. And even in the novels, there are a lot moments where he's with wine. Saying that he loves the stuff is an understatement.
"That's how fed up with you I was." makes me chuckle for some reason
You are so brave for making this video, standing up for many people from the fandom who are afraid to speak about this themselves!!
It's as if you aren't even reading that character. the watering down and mischaracterisation makes it hard to stay in the fandom and enjoy works on ao3.
hard agree on this - that’s why I mainly look for very in-character fanfics with limited shipping coz I can’t stand it when ships become the main focus of the story
it makes me so sad when the only content about beast is dazai or soukoku like MORI AND ATSUSHI AND KYOUKA ARE RIGHT THERE>???????
But sadly my boy is only seen with dazai, and dazai tends to bring the worst in people, add that to the fact that a lot of anime only fans or skk shippers never read 15 era/stormbringer and in the end a character that has lots of personality, backstory, etc gets sumarized to "angry guy who loves wine"
Uhh sorry for the long text also i may have lost my train of thought(english isnt my first language so idk whats the past of think, sorry again😭) but all i want is justice for Chuuya, people need to realize that he isnt dumb and that he isnt weaker than dazai
This video is pretty much the reason why I like to avoid fandoms as much as possible for a very good while after I get into something. The mischaracterization can get so bad at times and it ticks me off. Sometimes fanon can be really cool but I hate it when people simplify two characters just to ship them. Like please, I love these characters for their full and complex personalities, not who they're shipped with
I very rarely ship characters tho
And I loved Dead Apple for seeing Atsushi accepting that part of his past and overcoming his trauma, it was so awesome and I loved it, I had no clue the fandom made it all about soukoku
i really liked that one part where you asked "what happened? why it happened? and who's behind it?". i think that even just understanding those three can widen your perspective a lot more and appreciate it.
(I ship all kinds of things, SKK included.)
But it’s come to a point where a loud portion of the fandom makes everything about SKK, or Chuuya, or Dazai, when they aren’t always the point.
(I’ve genuinely seen people come to hate certain characters or ships because of stuff like this.)
The characters in BSD are amazingly well written, and all of them have something unique to offer. Including Dazai and Chuuya. That’s why it’s so important that we take the time to appreciate them, and not let one ship or character drown everything else out.
(Apologies, this was a bit of a rant, I just needed to get it off my chest. 💀)
omg this. and ive seen people sending death threats on twt js bc sm1 said they dont really like skk
YES!! THIS!!!

(Unnecesary fast and stupid analysis that came to my mind bc I can't be normal when people tell me the name E.A.Poe in a BSD context)
I please you an analysis deeply on him, ¡¡he has so much hidden potential!!
Acutally, Ranpo is a very difficult character to see, because he normally has this effect on "taking out of the hole" the people around him:
-He took away Fukuzawa's plans on working alone and funded with him the agency
- He helped Yosano to see the light again and recover from the PTSD she had from the war
- He has valued Kunikida more than once, the most resaltable moment just in the introduction of the Perfect Crime arc
- He destroyed and rebuild again the whole character of Mushitaro, making the first step for Mushi to get thought the lost of Yoko
- AND, THE REASON I'VE BEEN MENTIONING ALL OF THIS:
Ranpo in his time of youth, when he was still learning of modesty, how to act in society and the right way to use his deductive power and arguments, caused the destruction of Poe's self-confidence in such a gigantic way for the sheer selfishness of the spotlight and validation (and that makes me wonder what Poe had at stake for that first Best Detective spot to have been so important?), but, the how in the second encounter, even if they have the same outcome, even if Ranpo still maintains that sneering trait in his character and destroys again Poe's minimal glimmer of hope for reasserting his value as a person in society and repairing his mistake of years ago, Ranpo's response to Poe is more gracious and hopeful.
From a traumatized orphan to a great tiger that lives around his weakness with couage and hope, from a suicidal monster to a detective in search of the value of life, from a mountain destroyer to a kind farm boy, from a lone assassin to an honorable leader, from a war healing weapon to a human willing to save lives
... from a lost child who feels abandoned in a world of monsters who do not know how to understand you and value what you really are ... to a person who understands that he is a unique individual who forges his own life.
Idk about anyone else, but this comment was a joy to read ngl
in my opininon even if dazi is part of everyone's stories and is portryed in every era. to me it always feels like it's never about himself like we are missing something so crusial about his story like we know so much about him but we know nothing about him at the same time he's part of every story but never the main character
and akutagawa's case is so peculier to me becuse in fandom's opinion he is someone who dosen't deserved to be treated like how dazi treated him and i kinda thought that too untill i read the light novel best becuse in that novel we clearly see how destructive he naturally is hell we even get his inner dialogues at the start and they were filled nothing but rage and distruction and it's funny to me that fandom thinks dazi is the reson for akutagawa's every action when he started killing people littrally as a child like AKUTAGAWA HAS HIS OWN PERSONALLITY !!?? i'm not really trying to justify dazi's actions here he himself won't agree what he did was right like he said so when talking to atushi after the diracter of the church died he never justified diracters actions and it almost seems like he was talking about himself
(english is not my fisrt language btw)
Exactly! The relationship between Dazai and Akutagawa is more complex than it seems especially with the fact that Dazai himself was also pretty young when he took in the guy. That's why it's one of the most compelling dynamics in the series for me. Unfortunately, the fandom can't seem to see that.
ok like i need to finish this video but one of the aspects of skk that annoys me is the fact that chuuya's feminised and twinkified to hell and back 💀look at him, look at his ability.... thank you for pointing it out
i also don't understand why some people act like shirase is worse than dazai when hey, dazai's a lot worse.??
Don't get me wrong btw, I have nothing against trans hcs, except when they're based on shitty stereotypes as I've mentioned
the boss music shook me to the core i love it
Your videos make me mature
I tend to stick closer to canon (I think. I hope). and honestly I mainly just ADORE dynamics and I don’t care all too much for specific labels
Honestly same, went into bsd expecting to ship Chuuya and Dazai, left shipping Kunidazai instead lmao
It's one of the best, if not the best light novel in the series, and got nothing- and I'm sure, the reason is because Chuuya just doesn't appear in it xdd But maybe in the future, for years I thought untold story also forgotten.. so maybe.. (I would die for an adaptation, I want to see Verne fully)
Also, I feel like I should thank your respectful tone. I've read half of the light novels, personally my favourite is the Untold story and the 55 minutes, so yeah, I know this series as much as other nerdier fans, I don't like it when people talks about "my type of people" like the stupid ones lol
So really, thank you for being respectful ❤
(And also, sorry for grammatical errors, english is not my first language)
I’m sorry, I know it only lasted for like two seconds but I appreciated the “Mori is normal” part of the video. 😭
Okay that aside, what you were talking about is definitely something I've seen. Especially what you said at the end about the loud ones drowning out the good ones. It happens a lot in BSD, and I really hope it doesn't get blown up and become really toxic.
a happy day to be a kunizai shipper
Kunikizai was not even mentioned but ok 🤧
Real ❤
not all soukoku shippers are that bad i promise you lol
I’m actually really glad that the bsd fandom hype is starting to die down. My worst nightmare is it turning out like the mha fandom (especially the shipping culture).
This is so real 😭 I really don't want to see that outcome for BSD..
As a former normal member of the mha fandom I would never want to see another fandom end up like mha
@@Asherrr-q4p As another former normal member of the mha fandom this is very true
I love the joke people make where they crossover MHA and BSD and then BSD world just…kicks ass. Super funny but sometimes over the top
I think Chuuya would get along with Poe, and yasino for poems and wine and he would shit talk with kunikida about dazai I wish there were more fanfics where he has more relationships because he lost a lot of friends and I feel like he should have more
Oh chuuya and kunikida would absolutely bond over how dazai is a nuisance😭😭
Ilysm 😭I love skk but tbh the only headcanon of them that I have is that Dazai once gave him chocolates for valentines under the excuse it's toxic for dogs 😭😭😭 I swear I literally cry when other skk fans hate on Yuan bc she held Chuuya's arm bc I literally love her sm and I like to think she's silly 😭 but oh well- I swear I love hearing you talk, please don't get turned into a ice cream cone
wake up babe cash just posted
Had to let out a laugh at calling Atsushi and Dazai fat f*cks (Ranpo caught a stray too lol) since bones refuses to animate them as anything other than skinny minnie 🥺boys
Really cool video with a lot of good points!!
Exactly bro I was watching the anime and went "Why do they all lowkey look emaciated"
hi! i loved the video! speaking of stormbringer though.. i think most skk fans simply don’t actually read the source material at all, because i have been seeing them say that chuuya’s original ability was an amplifier one? which makes absolutely no sense because the one with that ability was a kid who ended up getting sucked in by a black hole after activating amplification for the first time. chuuya was kidnapped by n precisely because he was a gravity manipulation user, which would make him perfect to be a vessel for arahabaki…
You using Undertale songs in this video is the cherry on top for sure.
cash is the one of the only non toxic bsd content creators outside of pinterest, change my mind (you cant)
ONG🔥🔥🔥
I cant and i won't because I agree 😋
@@v3nus.st4r.s HIGHLY AGREED
Nevertheless, I love them both and I'm hopeful the light novels are gonna fill up that missing potential of the anime for me when I get to them.
you don’t have to like them if you don’t … who told you that? 😭
Sometimes SKK videos come up which bash the other ships too…
I adore skk but like it's so annoying when there's other ships and skk shippers start commenting likee 😭 just scroll??
as a skk shipper, i totally agree! Like, let me enjoy all the other ships I like bro😭😭
this but the other way around, whenever i go searching for purely chuuya content all i see is skk and blatant mischaracterisation, or as you mentioned looking at other chuuya ships and all the comments are about dazai. LIKE GET DAZAI OUTTA HEREEEE 😞
The Akutagawa love is so real as well as sskk love. When I first started bsd I liked skk more over any ship until I went deeper into other ships and fell in love with
Less popular ships. I am a only going to say this once for "those" skk or dazai fans. The show does not revolve around thwm. If anything dazai is basically a side character compared to sskk. Each season has it had its main character or characters.
(you saying you need to rail fyodor..)
HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THAT THE BSD 15 MANGA WAS RELEASED ON MY BIRTHDAY!!? I LIVE THE THE WIKI WTH
*such how do you edit comments on TH-cam again? 😭
@@StormbringerEnthusiast-o8g nvm you need to tap the tree dots
@@MeliaeCinicNMors-tc7sn thank you so much!❤
I can split my interpretation of SKK in 2 ways canon and fanon. However, my favourite skk interpretation fanon, at least, is by the writer YunaYamiMouto on Ao3.
the romantic part is also fanon ….
Could you tell me where? I was out of the fandom for a bit and missed it and I'd be so interested in reading it! (genuinely)
@@chxilya Hi, I tried and I cannot send the link, but Cash herself did a thread on Twitter with the interview highlights in English. Hope that helps.
@@gabrielanegron2000 thanks!
"every1 and their mothers is watching the anime" hit hard because i got my mom hooked on the anime 😭 series so good my moms a fan of it!
lol reminds me of the time I got my mom hooked on JJK 😭 and currently forcing my friends to remember certain character lines like Nikolai’s bird/murder speech, they can’t escape my BSD ramblings
im the only one in my family who has watched it let alone read it lol
You both are luckyyyyy, my mum doesn't like anime sadly😓 but she doesn't judge me for liking it so that's good!
REALLY HYPED FOR THE PREPPY AND AESTHETIC KUNIKIDA EPISODE!!!! (if it happens ofc) ALSOALSO PLSPLS can u do a video about higuchi or kouyou? theyre my favs and criminally underrated
I think you mentioning jjk is amazing and really gets the point across
This is so true, thanks for yet another great video! Can’t wait for your next ones 😄
thanks so much for the video! i'm glad i can wholeheartedly agree and feel much better after this
I absolutely LOVE soukoku, but THANKS for this video.
I'm a huge Soukoku shipper but I respect other ships and I find it annoying when people hate on ships just because they don't like them.
i love soukou, it is one of my favorite ships but i also ship dazai with so many other people as well (i dont with akutagawa, arsushi, mori, fukuzawa, oda, ango ect) i dont understand why people wont let others ship dazai with anyone other chan chuuya, its not like they are actually in a relationship.
I even remember telling them that I love Dazai very differently too because you know, similarly to what you mentioned some things irk me about him whether it be the fact people fixate on Dazai or a ship so much that they ignore other characters entirely, or the fact that he’s just so heavily not understood and is often treated like a walking joke.
2:02 SOBBING CRYING AND RUNNING FIVE LAPS FOR YOU BECAUSE AS A POE FAN HE’S MORE THAN JUST ‘RANPO’S BF’
Though yes you still have to look more into the lines to actually see it
As a Poe kinnie, yesss!
@@Nii_chi you get it!! I honestly do love the ship, I think it's adorable, but the mischaracterization makes me want to rip my hair out lol
It made me so uncomfortable to the point I had to take a 1 month hiatus and leave BSDtwt for good-
I gen loved skk, it fr helped me through though times as my coping mechanism but because of what happened I can't help but revolt whenever the topic of skk or bsd in general comes up.
Did not watch it cuz of this exact reason but now I did u earned a sub and bsd earned a fan thx for the vid❤
I have failed you, Cash is Alive.........(I'm only seeing the video now)
I really like how in the video you talk about the fandom in a practically "real" way, a not so good part of the fandom tends to stereotype incredible characters and simply leave aside wonderful characters or simply put them as "villains".
YAP MORE 🗣💥💥
KENJI FUCKING DIES??? (I'm on Chapter 115)
@@witchbetelgeuse Not sure whether or not you were joking when you said to yap more, but okay. Here are some observations and stuff(117 AND 118 SPOILERS):
1) No one talks about how strong Kenji is, physically and mentally.
@@YourAverageRiddleKinnieOMG I'M SO SORRY FOR SPOILING, I JUST ASSUMED SINCE IT WAS MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO, I'LL ADD A WARNING
@@HydrangeaStars OH NO I DON'T MIND THE SPOILERS I'M JUST SHOCKED KENJI DIES 😭
the fact ppl get so mad when l say my fav bsd ship is atsulucy and not skk or sskk ☠
I had to argue recently with someone on Tik Tok because how dare I like KuniZai and they started calling me names, because Kunikida is toxic for the poor innocent Dazai??
Fr! 😭
real asf
Some ppl are so weird like not everyone has to like the same ships 😭 atsulucy is so cute in my opinion
Like No problems with the ship in all, Just..Wow

And fr Thank you FOR MENTIONING THIS!!

Coming from someone who was heartbroken when their headcanons got crushed, the point of letting go of the character personality YOU created can be extremely hard!
I remember making a whole FNAF AU before the release of Security Breach, and when it did appear, I was extremely disappointed to see the actual personality and backstory of Vanny being completely different from my interpretation :(
When you have no info, you create and theorize, and when you put THAT much energy on a fanwork, all your creativity feels useless when something contradicts it.

I agree with the "laziness" part.
#3
The Dazai overshadowing phenomenon is so real. I may kin him, but I despise that too. You have an amazing scene going on, and you are looking at the silly bandaged guy? Is fine if is your favorite, but c'mon 💀
#4 12:49
NOT THE CREEPY SOUND ON THE "DEAD APPLE ACCIDENT" TITLE LMAOO 😭
#5
YES YES! I feel so offended about how soukoku absorbs everything about them.
I like the ship, I LOVE the ship even! But, the way people just talk more about them than Akutagawa/Atsushi on media that is LITERALLY dedicated to them is just too much >:'/
Yes, you can make fanfics about them on those specials, but they aren't the protagonists there.

OMFG LUCY! I actually didn't think about that... I'm now pretty concerned about her on that universe.

Yes, just yes ☕️
i haven’t watched the video yet bc it’s 4am and i’m reading comments, and i haven’t really been involved with the bsd fandom outside of like… tumblr. i had no idea people perceived chuuya as dependent on dazai??? it’s so weird to me, if anything i would view it as the other way around (but even still, dazai would probably be clingy in an over dramatic way imo)
chuuya is most definitely his own character, and skk literally had YEARS with no contact. even before that happened, chuuya had his own goals and motivations separate from dazai (granted i still haven’t finished stormbringer because college) and reading some of these comments on the general mischaracterization from skk is somewhat baffling
i’ll probably add whatever random thoughts later once i finish the video but for now yeahhhh
"WE LOVE YOU, CASH" we all say in unison
Soukoku is definitely one of my favorite BSD ships, but most people who ship them completely remove their personalities and write the story with different parts (VERY different) and that gets on my nerves, not to mention that basically any ship fandom has a toxic part, but I think that what makes a ship good is not the shippers and the headcanons, but what is canonized
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS OH MYOGD SDCREAMS
Leeets GOOOO another Cash upload.
(Like who is hypersexual, who is extremely sex repulsed, etc)
ayy another banger🔥🔥
Good book even so the relationship with Chuuyas friends was pretty underwhelming to me because it was soooo obvious what their fate was.)
fyolai my beloved mentioned
mischaracterization aside. I don't really like reading fanon and fanfiction myself. But I just cant help but put the spotlight on Dazai and Chuuya myself. Idk I just find them and their character and stories and bond the most intresting and it kinda blurrs out the other things in the show. And I don't really understand when people from the fandom say they don't like them😶
(Not trying to offend just saying what I feel. I love all the other ships and characters but soukoku is the spotlight of the show for me)
I agree, tho I enjoy certain fanfics sometimes but very rarely
I enjoy your videos so much I love listening to it while drawing
An honorable mention: The 55 Minutes light novel. It’s often forgotten about because it doesn’t include (CHUUYA) in it. I didn’t even know that it existed until a couple of months ago??? Nobody talks about it 😨😨??
god I love 55 minutes it’s just the agency being the agency but slightly wackier than normal and it’s awesome
55 minutes is great and I think it’s arguably one of the best bsd light novels :3
H.G Wells my beloved…
Justice for 55 Minutes!
Cash throws themselves into No Man's Land and returns victorious part 3
I always like adding ‘I think’ to something it’s always good to clarify if something is your thoughts or cannon 😋
But I know how bad ships get but god it’s so horrible.
I’ve personally loathe reading manga online but I don’t have money to buy manga books so I just listen to others yap((really bad habit I know but I prefer my comfort over not enjoying something))
Then yeah I love Soukoku! Buts it’s more than about them, I’ve never been able to watch the movie only because I feel lonely watching movies alone on the tv.(waiting for my friend to finish season two so we can watch together 🥰)
But I didn’t really know the plot of the movie and it is my fault for not looking into it, I wouldn’t make it about them if I had actually looked into it. And that’s a point that needs to be made.
(I feel like I’m just yapping 😅)
Also I really love Soukoku and their characters while not able to afford or be able to read manga online without mentally draining myself I love hearing their stories their characters.
((This is a lot I really like talking hope you understand))
Chuuya I’ve always appreciated and hope when I can afford the mental strain (or money wise) of reading the manga then I can understand him more than I do now.
I’ve always thought ships needed some sort of knowledge of who the character is((hypocritical of me bc I shipped the characters then learned to love them separately))
THANK YOU FOR READING

I don't know if this makes any sense, but I, while I like skk, only ship their fanon version. So when I read fanfic about them I don't think of them as their canon version, again idk if this makes any sense whatsoever 😭
im sorry but then why do you like them as a couple?
AtsuLucy best ship tbh
I love love love skk and sskk (I also love Atslucy) but I also really don't get why people get so mad?? For one, Atslucy is wayyy more likely to become canon than sskk, like what are they gonna do, raid Asagiri's house when it inevitably happens? And, someone not liking the same ship as you doesn't make the ship you like any less valid, they act as if someone shipping a character with anyone other than the fan favorite is gonna take their favorite ship away lmao. None of it actually matters.
