That is one of the funniest and potentially terrifying plot twists ever (imagine a little girl being a ruthless mafia boss, a figure so small yet so powerful she strikes fear into most characters of the show, like really grapple with that, thats scary. Because she’s so small. She’s a child, a little girl, a delicate little girl in big poofy dresses that make her look like a porcelain doll, a fragile little thing. And that little girl with big innocent eyes is THE BOSS of the PORT MAFIA. A *little girl.* Is the ruthless boss of a huge, HUGE, *extremely* dangerous organisation. Like, people would never call Dazai the “demon protege” again if they knew, and they wouldn’t, it would be top secret. Probably only the executives, and maybe not even all of them, would know. And they would bow down to that little girl. Absolute killing machines like Chuuya would bow down to that little girl. Imagine. A child commanding so much authority, being fully in control, that is somehow so scary. Because SHE DOESNT LOOK LIKE A RUTHLESS BOSS OF A CRIME EMPIRE. BUT SHE *IS* A RUTHLESS BOSS OF A CRIME EMPIRE. AND GREAT. SUBVERSION OF EXPECTATIONS YIPPIE) so *I WANT A FANFIC WITH THAT PREMISE*
11:26 AHH LITERALLY I HATE WHEN PEOPLE ARE LIKE 'I like beast Mori not normal Mori!' LIKE STOP THEY ARE THE SAME CHARACTERS UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES 🙏🙏
As a Mori fan watching this was a complete major interest to me, and the way you explain these things and speak about this genuinely makes me feel a sense of happiness, this video is so well put, thank you
Thank you for not only a brilliant analysis on Mori as a character, but for also including substantial evidence such as the manga, the light novels, stage plays, and the real life Mori and his works! My favorite part of Fifteen was reading from Mori's point of view as it is so intricate and honestly, very human. It is quite refreshing to see someone in this fandom that is willing to engage in thoughtful analysis. Sadly, most of the fandom lacks a brain, a notable example of Stormbringer. Instead of focusing on Chuuya's development as well as others (notably Verlaine and Adam), many love to claim that it is an skk light novel and only gush about a fanon ship which Stormbringer had too many themes focused on humanity and will to ever even be considered a romantic story. This gives me hope to know that there are intelligent and thoughtful fans out there. Thank you.
i am so fucking happy that someone understands mori i am not gonna lie, i didn't know any of that, but he was my favorite character because of smart, evil boss he was written as such a good villain, i hated how i couldn't say that to people openly without getting attacked thank you, so much for making me understand him even better, this was an amazing video
about the idea of mori lying about his ability makes alot of sense because mori is just honestly a really mysterious character because we know a lot about him but we also know nothing about him. And the counterpart of the irl mori writing vita sexulis and writing about how it wasn’t fair that he was shunned and told he was liar and that his experience of being harassed ( im not sure if it was sexual or not ) was brushed off. And from that we can see fukuzawas and moris partner ship because with yosano- she’s wasn’t shunned by fukuzawa and ranpo , they helped her , while mori didn’t - and that’s because if ( just a theory ) in his past he went through a similar thing like irl mori and was shunned for it , it’d desotyr his views of the public and cause him to just lie and lie and lie. however one thing I don’t agree with is that in the video they say ” to keep his postion , that he wanted to be the mafias boss ” , isn’t completely true because yes- moris job is eating him alive , he also didn’t have much of a choice because mori cares about the peace and is willing to do anything for yokohoma. But why is he trying so hard as the pms boss and going overboard? Because being the mafias boss is his reason to live- what keeps him going , becasue it’s similar to how dazai worked- the mafia kept him going , yet it ate him alive and he was given the opportunity to have light- something mori didn’t receive. But the idea of mori driving peoples away from him because he wants to care- he wants to take care of them makes a lot of sense and could explain why mori keeps the air of power around him- kyouka falls to the floor just at the sight of him. and that also adds onto why mori said dazai is like him- because both of them are liars. they both keep themselves away from public , the one thing that makes dazai and mori so different is that dazai had someone that wanted to help him- someone who could see behind his mask. Mori didn’t. And dazai has people around him who want to he,p him but he doesn’t want the help.- while mori doesn’t have anyone who wants to help him and he doesn’t try to be helped. He just lies- and lies to keep people from asking questions , to make a mask hiding the man who’s just full of vulnerabilities and sadness. And that’s why in beast- mori just looks happier , he looks happy to no longer being eaten alive by his job. hope u have a great day and I love you for this video becuase it opens so many new views on moris character and it’s needed in this fandom and also thanks for the link to read dancing girl!!! :33 lysm 🫶
As the real Mori’s biggest fan, istg BSD mori isn’t a p3do bc if he was then I’ve got a real problem with Asagiri for making a man who is a CSA victim and has already had his book dragged through the mud, look even worse for no reason - plus a bunch of other reasons but that’s my biggest one, irl Mori is probably rolling around in his grave either laughing bc he was right about society, or in frustration
@@kurieita7607 Yes!! I was so mad at Asagiri for making a guy as conscious as Ōgai popularize himself as a possible pedo. This after saying that I didn't mean any disrespect to any author (especially a Japanese one!), bro?
Honestly, this kind of reminds me of what Junichiro and Naomi do. The "Im going to do something weird and creepy and gross to make you look away from us and you won't question why we're doing it or what's below the surface."
THANK YOU!! someone HAD to say it and Im so glad that you did!! I dislike any implications of any character being implied to be creepy; Calling him creepy about dressing child elise isn't creepy; he is just trying to get her to put different clothes on her!! That is one of the things I hate. using the scene where Elise has only bottoms on as a fact for him being a weirdo- that would mean anyone dressing a child would get put to the same standard.... another thing that bugs me "I prefer the women in my life to be under 12" does not count as CONFIRMED evidence that he is a creep. It could just mean he doesn't want to actually have a romantic relationship and finds it easier to get along with children rather than adults; kind of like the IRL Mori; Vitas Sexualis is a book about a person struggling to understand romantic interest; the name of the ability is NOT the kicker for him being a creep!! People flamed me for saying Mori was a great Villain and said "no he's a pedo" NO HES NOT I ARGHH. the manga scene at 10:48 bothers me because people assume it is for creepy implications ITS A GURNEY USED TO PREVENT A PATIENT FROM HARMING THEMSELVES... people are so dense in this fandom it is insane, I really hope asagiri eventually gives us SOME information on Mori's past like how we have bits and pieces of Fukuzawa's I know people are WAITING for Dazai's I want Mori's more and anything!! THANK YOU AGAIN BEAST MORI IS LITERALLY THE SAME AS OG MORI... People don't realize that the whole purpose of Beast was to SAVE odasaku; The only thing Dazai changed was BEAST Dazai NOT opening up to Oda THAT SAVED HIM, that and Beast dazai not bringing Akutagawa in only his sister next time someone tries to flame me for enjoying Mori as an antagonist this is the video they are being sent :) I literally wrote an essay just explaining and supporting this video I can't say enough to thank you for giving me this legit backup If it wasn't you I might have made a video myself about it (If my information is incorrect my apologies; all of this information is just stuff I've collected throughout interacting with the fandom and shit) JUSTICE FOR DAZAISPLOTARMOUR!!!!
This video has given me great information about Mori and made me understand him better. Also i had NO IDEA that the stage play actually have new lore in them. I just thought they were adapting the manga like the anime basically so thank you for opening my eyes to that.
YES!!!! SOMEONE WHO DOESNT DUMBS DOWN MORIS CHARACTER TO 'THAT ONE CREEP' AND ACTUALY MAKES A GOOD ANALYZES OF HIS CHARACTER but fr, i really try to understand every character that i find intresting and mori is one of them so i'm really stupid so i never actualy managed to understand his character, this video actually brought up some things i never thought of and it really makes a lot of sense, thank you for sharing your big brains inteligence with us, dumb people 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love your analysis so much, and they really broadened my understanding. I initially thought mori as a creepy pedo as well, but you dug up so much information and reason for his actions, I really don't think of him the same anymore. The beast part was very interesting to me, too, because I didn't even consider it once. I watched the anime before everything else, and it honestly left me with an impression that didn't cause me to think deep about the characters.
THANK YOU. In the fandom even mentioning Mori is putting a flame to the fuse, so an analysis video of him is a bold thing to do. We know so little about him, yet he has so much impact on the story. It always pained me that he was reduced to just a creep. There was no way such a character would be so shallow, all these arguments make SO much sense
THIS IS SOMETHING I NEVER THOUGHT OF!!!!!!! elise's meaning is actually SO genius!!!! oh my gosh... the analysis of his books... AND I AGREE ABOUT THE THING ABOUT THE 'creep thing' BEING IN HIS FAVOUR!! I ALWAYS THOUGHT OF THAT ILY!!! omg.... I've always defended more BUT THIS IS GIVING ME MORE FOOD!!! he still sucks with the things he did but he STILL is a human.. AGH!!! ILY!!!!!
This is just my opinion so just bear with me on this. The whole "Mori" situation is also kinda exasperated by the fandom, due to a lot of things I've read and seen of people portraying Mori to be a grapist. I'm biased so I'll just say it, I actually like Mori as a character. He's just as flawed and complexed as any of the other characters in BSD and I wish I could see how his life was before the war and where he met Yosano. He's a well written character and Cash's analysis vid on him made me appreciate his character more. I'm not JUSTIFYING any of his actions, just like I'm not justifying Dazai's or anyone else's. He's a flawed character, a type of character I love to consume. So seeing people portray Mori's actions as a grapist just leaves a bitter in my mouth. Firstly, where did this concept even come from? I would believe the fanfics might be a cause for it, but I could be wrong. If Mori's actions ever alluded to him being a predator in the manga or anime, I just don't see it. To make a comparison, the character, Adam, from skate the infinity, is an actual sexual predator in the show and you see it through his actions. (If you haven't seen this anime then you will have no idea what I'm talking about). Mori in comparison is NEVER sexual to any of the minor characters, not Elise, not Dazai, not Yosano. If I missed something then tell me so because I still have yet to read the novels, but I'm sure I would have seen someone make a comment about it if that was to be the case. And if the excuse is "oh they just won't show the assault" I'm not buying it. Because why would they show Dazai, 18 years, beat up a teenager Aktutagawa and not a scene that could allude to Mori assaulting Dazai/Yosano. I'm NOT asking for a explicit grape scene, just show me a sign that something like that has happened. And, just a question, what abuse do people usually think Mori preformed on Dazai? I would think it was psychological. I can't think Mori ever PHYSICALLY abused Dazai, cuz again, why not show it? And if you bring in Dazai's various injuries, remember, this was a suicidal kid before Mori even saved him from his attempt at 14. In the 15 manga, we see Mori actively saving Dazai many times from attempts. Dazai was still self destructive, hence why he was so injured in the first place. And if you bring in Dazai's physical abuse towards Aktutagawa, then let me bring in that Dazai was in an intense, dangerous environment cuz of the PM. The mafia must have taught him his violent tendencies, Mori couldn't have been the sole catalyst. (Again, I ain't justifying his actions, I'm just coming with a debate). If Dazai did hate Mori, it would be because of the loss of Oda, and something else if anyone has the answer. Yosano hates Mori because of the cruelty he put her through during the war, the hardest time in BOTH of their lives. His psychological abuse had an effect on her as well, but again, I see no SA trauma what people claim there to be. (AGAIN, correct me if I'm wrong, I might have missed some details in Yosano's backstory, and I haven't read the novels yet.) But I think I'm done with this rant now. I just wanted to rant about it cuz this was driving me INSANE.
@@skyaries500 I don't view any of Adam's actions or 'love' as s*xual. The most infamous Adam scene, the one where he touches Langa to fix his stance, is indeed him just fixing his stance. Any of the other things he does is either mere excitement due to having a decent challenger or taking out his anger and resentment towards the ab*se Adam underwent at the hands of his aunts. Adam doesn't love any of his opponents, not really, that is just the term he uses because his aunts also told him that their ab*se towards him was love. In reality what Adam really wants is to break promising and talented skater's spirit, just like his was broken by his aunts as a way to cope.
@anvitamohan7939 huh, I'll have to watch the show again from your perspective to see how you see him. But thank you for the well written argument. Tho, do you have an example of an anime that actually has a canon sexual predator if Adam isn't actually a predator, as you claim?
I cant even begin to describe how happy i am to know that there are people like you who actively tries to understand the characters and even generous enough to share your findings and your own interpretations. i was once guilty of water down his character to him being a pedo but after this video i feel very bad for thinking that of his character in the first place. he is a very deep and complex character like many of the people in the anime are and i know how important it is to fully grasp someone and not just study their character on the surface. before this video i was very close minded to his character and i admit that i was one of those people who ignored alot of his character as i didnt fully know him that well. that is also why im so glad your able to share this analysis for people who want to open their minds to the various interpretations fo the characters, not just mori but also alot of other characters in the show. you earned yourself a follow, thank you so much. (excuse my lack of grammar and punctuation)
I wrote this on community post and I will put it here again. All I can say is the pedo thing is just a facade. Because if I'm not wrong, things like sexual preferences already becomes clear in teen years. Mori was 26 when he met Yosano and Elise was an adult. If Mori was a pedo Elise already would be child. Mori was fascinated by Yosano's ability. Not her age. That's why Elise became more like Yosano after he met her. This is my theory at least. I am not trying to defend Mori by the way but if we are gonna analyse everything we gotta do it properly. If there was anything like SA happened to Yosano and Dazai I think this would be hinted. But there is literally no hint. No sign that says Mori did this.
I've always felt vaguely uncomfortable with the motion of Mori being a pedophile, not just because of the notion itself, but also because of the idea that Asagiri would write him as an overt pedophile for (if taken at face value) seemingly no reason except shock value. This analysis, make so much sense. So many dots connected with sturdy strings of reason. Also, since I'm relatively new to the fandom and I haven't delved much into the light novels and Beast yet, I'm glad to find out that my niggling feeling of seeing Mori and Elise as very father daughter was not unfounded. Also the idea of Mori making Elise a kid as a way of coping with his guilt for how he treated Dazai and Yosano, spoiling her and caring for her as if in his mind he's trying to make up for what he's done before. 😭And on top of the him going along/pushing the persona of him being a creep so that other people don't look closer at the reason Elise is a child and find a potential weakness. Ohh it has a little kick to it.
Just wanted to say thank you for making this, and kudos for posting it. My love of Mori is why I'm not publicly active in the fandom and just lurk, instead sharing my newfound love of Japanese literature and my love of the animanga with my already existing inner circle. Funnily enough, last year when I finally got into Bungou Stray Dogs, I went in expecting to hate him because of people's vitriol clouding my initial impression - and yet left to my own devices and after reading Mori's actual written works, I instead ending up falling in love with how complex his character is.
I made this vid for ppl like me and you :). I know it’s hard to explain a lot of things to ppl without them misinterpreting it so a thorough video essay is def needed on the topic so ppl can see themselves too
I wrote a whole 3 page essay on more not being a pedo when I wad in 5th grade. One of the main reasonings I said he called Elise his wife wad to push people away, to make them too disgusted to even dare to go up against him or question his course of actions. He says all the pedo like lines in a way of self defense or position defense, its to maintain his throne and to be sure no body.. Would try to get to him or question anything.
The way you said he is like a father really hit because of his irl unborn child, I've never thought of more of a pedo and I literally couldn't handle it. The though of mori being a pedo never made sense due to the fact of how he was saed irl and he was asexual, like I delve dipped into many characters at random times due to how dumb this fandom can be, fighting on ships or how a character is portrayed or just common mischaracterization.
@@Begaydogay_lolThis is quite embarrassing. I agree with the take but to comment as someone who agrees with your commentshows how you don’t have faith for people to agree with your take.
@@Mia-nk1kg "The way you said he is like a father" is a line that isn't in the main comment of that person, but starts the second one which means that both of them are addressed to the video creator.
I fully believe that mori is lying about his ability considering there is a theory that he can see the future. Elise could simply be an extension to his true ability as we see her drawings. These drawings she makes are predictions of what will happen in the future and we see them coming true. Example: she crosses out aktugawa’s neck and has x’s on his eyes and we see that coming true in akutugawa’s fight against fukuchi.
I remember one mori fan on tik tok was writing paragraphs explaining his character with valid points and people would hate on her smmmm, i was like the only one defending her people in this fandom are such ignorants
Wow. Someone who didn't take two lines from the show at face value and actually looked into Mori's character with an interest of understanding him and the real him as a person? ...I never thought I'd see the day
The "wife" thing isn't a mistranslation but SOME of the other lines are !!AND!! they have always been *ambiguous* ON PURPOSE! I totally agree that he's just shaping a certain image of himself - and I'm shocked some people refuse to believe that (because dawg he's a mafia boss... why WOULDN'T he be a liar...). Kudos for posting this because I know how dedicated people are to misconstruing your words and attacking your person whenever someone tries to talk about it!
i honestly thought i wouldn’t change my opinion on mori after watching this, but i was wrong i actually understand it a lot more now😭 i want to understand characters more and do research but i struggle a lot with remembering details no matter how much i care about them so it’s hard for me to fully understand every character sometimes but im happy to find videos or other stuff like these to help me, its still difficult to remember everything but im hoping ill get better at it one day, i’ve never been a fan of reading honestly but with stuff like bsd i can’t help but be so interested in everything in it, i’ve bought the authors books but i still can’t bring myself to read them as reading anything in general is so hard for me for some reason but im hoping one day ill get the motivation to read them all cuz i rlly want to
Ooh i absolutely love how u explained all of this, makes me wanna dig deep into all there is to know abt irl and bsd mori, and also makes me love him more
I LOVE THIS. FINALLY SOMEONE WHO DID A GREAT DEEP DIVE AND DIDNT DEFEND HIS ACTIONS. This is what I was looking for. I once read a whole google document that someone sent me about him not being a pdf file but they constantly excused his abvse and bad behavior, and concluded that he only wants to be a little girl which didnt make sense to me 😭 Also this is such a great video I really enjoyed it. This might actually be the best Mori deep dive Ive ever seen.
hey there!! so, this video was great. your analysis of mori as a character, and as a real person is practically unmatched, however i don't think we can fully clear him. i also would like to preface this by saying that i think mori is a super well written character, and i really appreciated the breakdown of his motivations and guilt. my main gripe is that you made a point along the lines of "mori chooses to have elise represented a child, but he doesn't always. therefore, he cannot be pedo." while yes, you could make a point that he doesn't exhibit explicit pedophilic behaviors all of the time, the fact that he still chooses to represent her as child, and continues to call her his wife, makes me think that a main reason for her appearance is based on lust. i always interpreted the mori from bsd as a completely opposite person from his real life counterpart. while the real mori was asexual, the bsd mori has an ability based entirely on sexual desire. while the real mori was able to point out and acknowledge his flaws, the bsd mori is constantly running away from his own mistakes, constantly cowering in fear. so honestly, i do still think mori is a pedophile. however, i do think that the conversation needs to be opened further. i think he's such an interesting antagonist to write into the story, and i can't wait to see more of him. but idk, im curious if you have anything else to add! and again, thank you for bringing up his irl writings. they hold such an important role in shaping the character we see in bsd. :)
hi! first off, I agree where just this info WOULDNT clear him, more proof proving my point has been released that I didn’t get to sandwich in. you can check out my last community notes post where I discuss another BSD light novel launched in 2023 that hasn’t been translated yet
i had an obsession with mori for a year a few months ago and i had to explain this so many times to people, this video is so refreshing tysm for saying this
this is so so good, I am over the moon. my prayers have been answered at last, people have begun to do actually great bsd analysis video essays. 10/10, mini side note, Rimbaud is pronounced "Rambo" (hence the joke with his name being misread in 15), but who wants to respect the french anyway.
sorry I keep coming back to this, but it is just so so interesting. A while ago me and oomf were talking about Elise as a character, and went onto what you said in the video, that Mori basically projected his victims onto Elise as a fucked up coping mechanism. Now because of that, I kind of thought okay, Mori is supposed to be the embodiment of cold logic and "for the greater good" mentality, which he in multiple scenarios is hinted to kind of dislike. So he uses Elise, a lifeless being who he can command as he wishes, as something to give all his love and positive attention to, because he cannot offer that to anyone else. I also find that one scene with Oda and Mori very interesting, where he, knowing that Oda is a pseudo father to a bunch of children, props a scene where he is being silly with Elise very interesting.
THISSSS gah, you’re here again lol but YES, there’s so much more abt him I didn’t discuss in this video that I wish I could have squeezed in. His parallels with Oda are amazing
THIS! I always told them that Mori isn't a creep. He's a villain person who always twist every words he said. Only Dazai who understand him and that's why he detest him. He didn't want to be like Mori. Tied up to the port mafia. Look at him in the beast. Did he look happy? He look suffered.
Your part about The Dancing Girl/Maihime being auto-biographical / about the real life Mori is actually not true and a common misconception. Vita Sexualis is absolutely semi-autobiographical and about himself/Mori and his personal experience, but The Dancing Girl was inspired by events surrounding Takeshima Tsutomu, a fellow Japanese army student that Mori knew while he was abroad. Also saying that he purposefully pushed Dazai out of the mafia just to push him out seems weird to me. The fact is that he probably underestimated how much Odasaku actually meant to Dazai (he clearly has problems with genuine and earnest human attachments up to that point and showed little respect for life; its noted in Dark Era that Dazai regularly hurt or killed his own subordinates for extremely vague reasons), and even if he had a strong idea Dazai would leave the Port Mafia, obtaining the Gifted Business Permit to turn the Port Mafia into a "legitimate" instead of fully illegal operation was likely calculated as worth the risk to him. Odasaku was basically a dead-end with refusing to kill or "properly" contribute his Gift to the organization and act like a "proper" contributing mafioso, so Odasaku's life for the Gifted Business Permit was a no-brainer upgrade for the Port Mafia.
Actually, the dancing girl really was taken from his life and he really did have an affair with Elise even during his marriage (and Elise was her real name). There are even many letters of the two’s correspondences in museums and exhibits dedicated to him.
Honestly never really thought much about Mori as a character, always thought he was a creep, but I’m definitely having second thoughts now. His character makes so much more sense to me, but I definitely need to start reading the books for the full experience. Geez… I knew BSD was a really layered show, but it’s just now dawning on me how much freaking depth there is
This actually changed my view of mori completley. Granted i had never read the books that he is based off of but now in learning thst context i like mori much better as a character
this was such a good video!!! I got a lot out of it and it made me understand mori's character a bit easier :D with the child lover (bad way) thing I think that's mostly asagiri's fault. he's kinda a freak and I think he overexaggerates it for comedic effect. he did it with teruko and fukuchi too when their relationship is. so not that. anyway lovely video I really like your insight on mori's character :D
THANK YOUUU im trying to get more information abt Elise and Mori better (Elise is one of my fav chars, she reminds me of myself) and this helped me alot :33
Someone somewhere once said that Asagiri is on the aroace spectrum, or at least writes in an aromantic asexual lens, and I see it. With that at the back of my mind, being a main manga and anime watcher only for now, I always thought Elise was an odd choice. Every other character had deep nuances to them on screen or at least in the manga at some point but not Mori and no one wanted to talk abt it??? Which is weird but understandable bc yeah pedophilia in anime is a weird near-cultural thing but this was BSD. Autistic central. The writer himself is a nutjob (affectionate) and the fans are fellow nutjobs (affectionate) who go feral over side quests so I was wondering if anyone would explain Mori someday and I FINALLY got answers hurrah :D
I loved this video. I honestly wish I had someone who loved BSD enough that they would talk to me about topics like this, because I genuinely just have to keep it to myself all the time. Reading a story where the characters are more than just what they are on the surface always makes me so happy.
THANK YOU FOR DOING HIM JUSTICE 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏 EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS BEC MORI IS SUCH A GOOD WRITTEN CHARACTER THAT GETS OVER LOOKED. and people need to remember that liking a character doesn't mean you support their actions 😭😭😭 i feel everyone forgets that if you say you like mori or fukuchi
I loved Mori’s character even before watching this video because he is such an interesting character and just watching this video made me more interested in his character
i yhate mori haters bro this dude lit said they hc mori as SAing dazai and yosano so they have a better reason to hate him like him being abusive in general isnt enough
Finally, someone actually gets that he's not a pedophile It's a character that's so much more complicated and truthfully He's one of my favorite villains
Thank you and Rin for making this video! I enjoy BSD on a very surface level since I don't like thinking critically too hard unless it's something I really like (sorry BSD isn't one of my hyperfixations), but this was a very insightful look into a character I also thought was a freak. When I decide to revisit BSD from scratch, I'll definitely keep your video in mind when I see Mori 😊
14:47 from this moment i got chillsss, justice for dazaisplotarmour 😔😔 at least she’s way happier in a new fandom who respects her and her creativity, lowkey miss her edits she was so original
tysm for making this video??? since the day I've started bsd, I've always been intrigued towards his character. i wanted to speak about the complexities of this man but couldn't bc the fandom (and most of my friends w the mutual interest) despised him. i tried to connect the dots of him being classified as a ,, pedophile,, but could not?? i found no valid signs of him being a lover of kids in a disgusting sense, it was only in the minds of the fandom. this video made me feel like a little weight was put off from my shoulders lmao
That was a novel perspective, i really love this. Frankly, i do not dislike Mori, he is an interesting character, i really think that Asagiri should write more about him, theres still so little thing i know about him, about his past, Elise, his love for Yokohama, i still dont understand that, so i cannot sympathize with him. But this video really enlightened me and i really hope someday this is canon, since Mori is a very unique character and he really has the potential to make a plot twist, love your videos! I still dont have the opportunity to read about the IRL bsd characters novels, i really hope you make more analysis videos like this to help more and more people know the characters better
After watching this video, I trusted my gut 1000x more. Because it never hated Mori and found him so interesting. And, He is. Just all the media I try to see how they characterise Mori... its all icky and off. It always felt so shallow. When I see fanfics which have Mori, who isnt written plainly as a pedo and cares in a weird way despite being a horrible man, it feels more like him.
Also I wish I could do research on all the characters but I dont really have the time ;-; Its also sad that as soon as people have a favourite character in BSD, theyre just blind after that. Everything is about that character, not the others, so they dont go into as much depth as all the other characters. Its also disappointing when a person does shallow research or sees something with no credibility and then just goes with it.
Thank you for posting this! I'll be the first to admit I am one of those people that don't look too far into stuff. Whenever I first saw this come up in my fyp I thought I would look at it and then dismiss it but now that I watched it I found it really interesting. At this point I understand Mori's character much better than I did before. Now Im gonna have to buy books from all the authors instead of just a couple... TvT I get being scared to post controversial stuff but you should still do it. I guarantee that if you are thinking it then somebody somewhere is too and just doesn't have the courage to speak up. Point is, I loved your video and please keep it up! :D
This is something I really yearn for. Deeper topics that transcend the fear of being judged. A work piece that makes you think, rewatch/read to grasp the meaning behind behaviors, how a thought flow. Humans aren't black and white, they much more deeper, and they are shaped by their experiences in life that lead to different outcomes. So, hopefully, there's more works that defy our morality, and comfort. For only then, we remember our essence. that's our humanity.
I love looking into characters but this was I opening and it makes so much sense so thanks it was amazing and I really get that to be more open minded ❤
Yeah this fandom is absolutely cooked, I fear. On a serious note, I do understand that a lot of the issue isn’t necessarily that people lack critical thinking or the ability to contextualize media beyond the surface level (although some people certainly do) it’s that a lot of people don’t WANT that. People want easily digestible media that’s, more or less, spoon-fed to you and BSD isn’t that. It’s easier to consume media that you don’t have to really think about or understand on a deeper level, but BSD has a lot going for it beyond what’s simply shown to us outright. I seriously always urge people to read the author's works for the BSD characters as it helps so much in understanding the characters themselves. But so many people will just la-la-la I don’t hear you when discussing things they don’t want to hear. They won’t even hear you out, it’s crazy! And that isn’t to say that the easily digestible media is bad. There is value in both! And I have nothing against people who are a bit more silly or lean into fanon especially when a lot of the time it’s all in good fun. But you can’t go to a series like BSD and assume that middle school level reading comprehension and analysis is going to give you the complete picture of the series or characters all while screaming at anyone who wants to have serious discussions regarding the work. If you’re going to start grandstanding about your opinions and what you believe about characters while propositioning it as objective fact and truth, you better have your sources in line and ready. So many people seem to simply want to understand the series through a critical lens yet they want to use twitter entirely as their source for their arguments and interpretations.
I HAVE NOT EVEN WATCHED THE VIDEO YET BUT THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEONE FUCKIN SAID IT OMG Edit after finishing the video: yea no I STILL DUCKIN AGREE WITH THIS, ALSO there were so many points u brought up that I didn't even know or added on to my reasonings like him treating elise like a father AND OMG THIS WHOLE ANALYSIS(?) VIDEO IT'S JUST, I'm just so glad someone FINALLY decided to say something, you're EXTREMELY brave for this, you also managed to somehow get me interested in literature that has no pictures and is simply words(I'm guessing I might be wrong but eh) so thank you for that lol
BRO, i love your account, i genuinely do, i never EVER went this deep into moris character since i was simply uninterested in him.. and i think im inlove with this man now. i think hes became my favorite character after all this, keep posting ur analysts cause HOLY SHIT THEYRE SO GOOD keep cooking please
I haven’t even watched the video but THANK YOU FINALLY FOR MAKING A VIDEO ABOUT THIS!!! I swear I’ve been begging people to see this for a while, Mori is a lot of things but a pedo isn’t one of them
absolutely fantastic video (as expected) about yet abother underrated villain and calling out autistic people. Im very happy to have someone so well spoken within this community to shed light on amazing characters and what some fans might be missing out on! In fact this video encouraged me to check out maihime more urgently than ever haha Looking forward to your future videos
I followed the pedo thing even when I didn't quite belive it for the joke, but this is actually really interesting and I love how satisfaying it is for someone to analyse the character and give me the answers I've been procrastinating since I found out bsd characters are based of real authors. The wanted to be a father thing is so twisted, I would never let a child in my care near him.
This whole video has singlehandedly changed my whole view on Mori and that says alot. I'm so happy you made this because for the longest time I've always wanted to understand Mori even if he seemed creepyish? To me at least but this is a great video thank you for making this video and have a great day‼️‼️💜💜💜💜
14:07 yk, I WOULD, but if I had to name my trauma, it’d be analyzing literature. I find it so stressful and anxiety-inducing to answer any open ended questions in history and language arts classes, and I find escape in media such as BSD, so why would I bring my trauma into my comfort when I can be spoon fed by analysis videos such as this?
I heard somewhere that fukuzawa called him similar to a little girl or something, I always assumed he rather confused love and envy. He envy’s a young girls freedom, I never understood why I did but I’ve known he wasn’t just like a pedo but I’d didn’t know what to call him, I can’t afford his books and so I’m stuck hearing other’s thoughts and analysis due to limited resources (I also think it’s bc the fandom is also quite young too, I’m young myself and bungou stray dogs didn’t really reach its audience. Of young men instead of younger woman, mainly bc of the anime adaptation,)
Thank you for this analysis! This video's description of the writer Mori's books made me actually want to read some of them. I usually dislike classic literature but wow, classic books don't have to always sound boring! I might even try reading the stories other characters' abilities are based on, like Beast Beneath The Moonlight. BSD makes me want to read
As someone who has read Mori's work (the real Mori), I can say that it is an easy and quick read! The writing is simple, it does not seek to be exaggerated to demonstrate intellectual knowledge nor does it act like that, it is humble and elegant. I managed to read it all in one day, sooo, read this.
A confession from me: When I watched series for the first time I thought Elise is a genius child mafia boss and Mori is her ability to appear serious.
I wish that was true
I've never heard that one before 😂
Noice
I wish somebody make a fanfic with that idea, it would be so much funny and I would definitely read it
@@ArlenFinol Yesssssss
Thank you.
i am so fucking happy that someone understands mori
i am not gonna lie, i didn't know any of that, but he was my favorite character because of smart, evil boss he was written as
such a good villain, i hated how i couldn't say that to people openly without getting attacked
thank you, so much for making me understand him even better, this was an amazing video
about the idea of mori lying about his ability makes alot of sense because mori is just honestly a really mysterious character because we know a lot about him but we also know nothing about him.
People don't realize that the whole purpose of Beast was to SAVE odasaku; The only thing Dazai changed was BEAST Dazai NOT opening up to Oda THAT SAVED HIM, that and Beast dazai not bringing Akutagawa in only his sister
next time someone tries to flame me for enjoying Mori as an antagonist this is the video they are being sent :)
I literally wrote an essay just explaining and supporting this video I can't say enough to thank you for giving me this legit backup If it wasn't you I might have made a video myself about it
(If my information is incorrect my apologies; all of this information is just stuff I've collected throughout interacting with the fandom and shit)
JUSTICE FOR DAZAISPLOTARMOUR!!!!
This video has given me great information about Mori and made me understand him better. Also i had NO IDEA that the stage play actually have new lore in them. I just thought they were adapting the manga like the anime basically so thank you for opening my eyes to that.
guys this is actually why I NEED beast to be animated like im so serious im actually gnawing at the bars of my enclosure
YES!!!! SOMEONE WHO DOESNT DUMBS DOWN MORIS CHARACTER TO 'THAT ONE CREEP' AND ACTUALY MAKES A GOOD ANALYZES OF HIS CHARACTER
but fr, i really try to understand every character that i find intresting and mori is one of them so i'm really stupid so i never actualy managed to understand his character, this video actually brought up some things i never thought of and it really makes a lot of sense, thank you for sharing your big brains inteligence with us, dumb people 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love your analysis so much, and they really broadened my understanding.
AGH!!! ILY!!!!!
While I interpret him a bit differently, I agree with you on so many points here.
I'm quite sure Mori loved Dazai like his own son.
(AGAIN, correct me if I'm wrong, I might have missed some details in Yosano's backstory, and I haven't read the novels yet.)
But I think I'm done with this rant now. I just wanted to rant about it cuz this was driving me INSANE.
I don't think Adam is a predator either
@anvitamohan7939 really? Explain. I'm up for a debate. (A respectful one at that)
@@skyaries500 I don't view any of Adam's actions or 'love' as s*xual.
@skyaries500 Airi Himekawa from Oshi No Ko I guess. But that is pretty explicit rather than implied
You're right. There is no sigh that Mori ever SA'd or even physically hurt Yosano and Dazai. It was more like mental abuse
I guess this is just a reminder of how complex humans can be
BRO COOKED SO HARD THAT I NEEDED A SESSION TO THINK 🔥🔥
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO I LOVE MORI AND ILY THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THIS TO PEOPLE
FINALLY SOMEONE IS SPEAKING UP ON THINGS OTHERS ARE AFFRAID TO TALK ON. I'd love to see the next vid you'll make.

THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME. I love how everything is explained so well. FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT.
YES! This is the best representation of my thoughts about this character!!
OH YEAH. WHY THE FUCK WAS RIMBAUD ALWAYS COLD 😭
i honestly thought i wouldn’t change my opinion on mori after watching this, but i was wrong i actually understand it a lot more now😭 i want to understand characters more and do research but i struggle a lot with remembering details no matter how much i care about them so it’s hard for me to fully understand every character sometimes but im happy to find videos or other stuff like these to help me, its still difficult to remember everything but im hoping ill get better at it one day, i’ve never been a fan of reading honestly but with stuff like bsd i can’t help but be so interested in everything in it, i’ve bought the authors books but i still can’t bring myself to read them as reading anything in general is so hard for me for some reason but im hoping one day ill get the motivation to read them all cuz i rlly want to
Ooh i absolutely love how u explained all of this, makes me wanna dig deep into all there is to know abt irl and bsd mori, and also makes me love him more
I LOVE THIS.
THISS
hi! first off, I agree where just this info WOULDNT clear him, more proof proving my point has been released that I didn’t get to sandwich in. you can check out my last community notes post where I discuss another BSD light novel launched in 2023 that hasn’t been translated yet
i had an obsession with mori for a year a few months ago and i had to explain this so many times to people, this video is so refreshing tysm for saying this
Thank you so much for helping me understand his character

sorry I keep coming back to this, but it is just so so interesting.
This is a really nice take! I think this makes a lot of sense to me tbh..
Geez… I knew BSD was a really layered show, but it’s just now dawning on me how much freaking depth there is
Lowk want the entire bsd fandom watching this
This actually changed my view of mori completley. Granted i had never read the books that he is based off of but now in learning thst context i like mori much better as a character
this was such a good video!!! I got a lot out of it and it made me understand mori's character a bit easier :D
with the child lover (bad way) thing I think that's mostly asagiri's fault. he's kinda a freak and I think he overexaggerates it for comedic effect. he did it with teruko and fukuchi too when their relationship is. so not that.
anyway lovely video I really like your insight on mori's character :D
Reading a story where the characters are more than just what they are on the surface always makes me so happy.
after watching this video, my whole perspective of Mori just twisted around and not i don't even know how to feel about Mori anymore😟
Nooo now I'm going to notice mori being occ way more than I did before... Like allo of the fandoms work is gone for me now 😭
This is too real 😭
Any time I see a pedo Mori joke I think about all this
THANK YOU FOR DOING HIM JUSTICE 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏 EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS BEC MORI IS SUCH A GOOD WRITTEN CHARACTER THAT GETS OVER LOOKED.
and people need to remember that liking a character doesn't mean you support their actions 😭😭😭 i feel everyone forgets that if you say you like mori or fukuchi
Please keep making videos they're PEAK!
I loved Mori’s character even before watching this video because he is such an interesting character and just watching this video made me more interested in his character
i yhate mori haters bro this dude lit said they hc mori as SAing dazai and yosano so they have a better reason to hate him like him being abusive in general isnt enough
Holy smokes I think i just developed my frontal lobe
mori said it, but the creator confirmed that he never acted on it.
Finally, someone actually gets that he's not a pedophile It's a character that's so much more complicated and truthfully He's one of my favorite villains
this was such an amazing explanation especially the part about mori atoning through elise, like that was so insightful
FINALLY, AT LEAST *SOMEONE* GETS IT!!!>_< (I love this sm, tysm for making this :333)
Why has TH-cam hidden this from me for five days.
this is such a great analysis. thank you a lot!
idk what to comment but i love you for making these videos i am breathing in the bsd characterization yesyes thank you so much
Thank you and Rin for making this video!
14:47 from this moment i got chillsss, justice for dazaisplotarmour 😔😔 at least she’s way happier in a new fandom who respects her and her creativity, lowkey miss her edits she was so original
real
tysm for making this video??? since the day I've started bsd, I've always been intrigued towards his character. i wanted to speak about the complexities of this man but couldn't bc the fandom (and most of my friends w the mutual interest) despised him. i tried to connect the dots of him being classified as a ,, pedophile,, but could not?? i found no valid signs of him being a lover of kids in a disgusting sense, it was only in the minds of the fandom. this video made me feel like a little weight was put off from my shoulders lmao
YOU LITERALLY HAVE THE BEST TAKES
After watching this video, I trusted my gut 1000x more. Because it never hated Mori and found him so interesting. And, He is. Just all the media I try to see how they characterise Mori... its all icky and off. It always felt so shallow. When I see fanfics which have Mori, who isnt written plainly as a pedo and cares in a weird way despite being a horrible man, it feels more like him.
Also I wish I could do research on all the characters but I dont really have the time ;-;
Its also sad that as soon as people have a favourite character in BSD, theyre just blind after that.
TvT
I get being scared to post controversial stuff but you should still do it. I guarantee that if you are thinking it then somebody somewhere is too and just doesn't have the courage to speak up.
Point is, I loved your video and please keep it up! :D
THANK YOU. The bsd fandom needs this
I always questioned if we should trust Mori's explailnation of his ability or just trust him at all. Like look at him!!!
I absolutely love this video. You've earned a sub. This was such a good freaking analysis
I love looking into characters but this was I opening and it makes so much sense so thanks it was amazing and I really get that to be more open minded ❤
I only though he was one, cus he said he prefers the woman in his life to be under 12.
Someone made a theory that he prefer that they are easy to manipulate, Idk tho
This makes a lot of sense@Rayx8b
You just gained a new subscriber because of this deep dive into Mori's character. 👁👄👁
Hes weird but he’s not like WEIRD WIERDI WISEIRIDIUSWIRWWIRD
I HAVE NOT EVEN WATCHED THE VIDEO YET BUT THANK YOU
FINALLY SOMEONE FUCKIN SAID IT OMG
Edit after finishing the video: yea no I STILL DUCKIN AGREE WITH THIS, ALSO there were so many points u brought up that I didn't even know or added on to my reasonings like him treating elise like a father AND OMG THIS WHOLE ANALYSIS(?) VIDEO IT'S JUST, I'm just so glad someone FINALLY decided to say something, you're EXTREMELY brave for this, you also managed to somehow get me interested in literature that has no pictures and is simply words(I'm guessing I might be wrong but eh) so thank you for that lol
Completely agree and couldn’t have said it better myself. Thank you for making this video!
I love you for this oml
I never thought I would see something like this every and I am so happy I was wrong. I confess I am a Mori character liker
I'm gonna be so honest with you i thought Elise was a child version of the person who SA Mori
I haven’t even watched the video but THANK YOU FINALLY FOR MAKING A VIDEO ABOUT THIS!!! I swear I’ve been begging people to see this for a while, Mori is a lot of things but a pedo isn’t one of them
FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS MORI I STARTED TO GROW TO LIKE HIM THESE DAYS IT ALMOST MADE ME CRY LMAO I SAW YOUR TWEET AND DECIDED TO WATCH IT!
absolutely fantastic video (as expected) about yet abother underrated villain and calling out autistic people. Im very happy to have someone so well spoken within this community to shed light on amazing characters and what some fans might be missing out on! In fact this video encouraged me to check out maihime more urgently than ever haha
Looking forward to your future videos
My confidence only comes from the constant support my friends give me, all the kiddos goes to them
I followed the pedo thing even when I didn't quite belive it for the joke, but this is actually really interesting and I love how satisfaying it is for someone to analyse the character and give me the answers I've been procrastinating since I found out bsd characters are based of real authors. The wanted to be a father thing is so twisted, I would never let a child in my care near him.
Let’s go, you’re cooking with another great analysis 🔥
THANK YOUUU (IM NOT A MORI FAN BUT PEOPLE MISCHARACTERIZE HIM SO BADLY..)
REAL
Real…
Guys what if mori just made elise a child because he could have someone to playwith when he was young💀
plz make more of these analyses i beg you finally someone that has the same view on mori i could literally cry
I heard somewhere that fukuzawa called him similar to a little girl or something, I always assumed he rather confused love and envy. He envy’s a young girls freedom, I never understood why I did but I’ve known he wasn’t just like a pedo but I’d didn’t know what to call him, I can’t afford his books and so I’m stuck hearing other’s thoughts and analysis due to limited resources
(I also think it’s bc the fandom is also quite young too, I’m young myself and bungou stray dogs didn’t really reach its audience. Of young men instead of younger woman, mainly bc of the anime adaptation,)
YES OMG A MORI VID😭 I FEEL LIKE EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS, i love Mori's character writing
