  • In this video we cross some of the most dangerous waters in Queensland, the Wide Bay Bar, but not before waiting for the right weather conditions, consulting the Tin Can Bay Volunteer Coast Guard and taking all the sensible safety precautions. Then we sail across the bay to one of mother nature’s great playgrounds at Double Island Point where we are able to anchor in totally protected, crystal clear waters and have some fun.
We have recently lashed out money on a new, far more powerful laptop to assist with video editing and, with the help of our fantastic Patreon supporters, another radio mic to improve the audio. However we still have a wish list of gear we’d love to have in our equipment inventory to make our videos better for you. Nice crossing eastward! Things were too rough a few years back so we headed NE with a 4m sea state , just sat back and enjoyed the sail on auto pilot with a handkerchief of canvas out to keep moving!

Thanks for commenting Tony. We always appreciate it. Sounds like you had a good plan and executed it well. We always try to look for a suitable weather window and are happy to wait. It's easy when you don't have a schedule. Cheers R & K.

We did sail this section together hey!?! ok you were 20 minutes ahead of us as usual, but we didn't get any of those monster waves.. we must have timed it perfectly or should I say we skilfully found a gap with no waves! 😂

We must have knocked the steam out of the waves before you arrived. 😂

Just discovered you guys from your FB post. Excellent episode - I’ll be back sailing in Aussie waters after a very long time away and looking forward to it very much. I’m going to sail through this area fairly often so thanks for such a good insight into it - much appreciated!

That’s quite a bar! Reminds me of some of our tidal races on the U.K. coast but the depth across your bar would have me a bit nervous! Anyway nice video. Would love to sail there one day 😊

Thanks guys. It's a place that can be a mill pond or absolutely deadly. We pay it a great deal of respect and only cross if the weather is right. It would be great to share an anchorages and sundowners one day if you do ever come this way. Cheers!
