    I got an HW50 from a great-grand-uncle a few weeks ago. He was reminiscing about 'the good old days' when he was still living in New Zealand hunting goats with his Winchester .22, when he told me he still had an air rifle in his shed. He hasn't used it in 10 years or so, because his eyesight was getting worse and of course I had to see it. He taught me how to shoot, maintain and store the gun and I love it. What a great hobby!!

    I recommend the 50 to people just getting into springers. Very accurate in .177 and is acceptable up to 50 yards. Kind of the best of all worlds at a reasonable price. Tuning is always a must but great shooter.

      What do you mean by tuning?

    • @paulanderson2631
      @paulanderson2631 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mybluebelly There are people who do tuning John Thomas. They take the gun apart and polish each piece removing burs. The replace springs with better quality springs and guides. The finished product will be a gun that shoots much better and last longer. The velocity before may very 30 feet per minute for ten pellets after it may very only 3 feet per second. The gun will recoil very little. All these things will make the rifle more accurate.

    • @mybluebelly
      @mybluebelly ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulanderson2631 Well overall i am pretty happy with my HW50 as it is. I don`t really see the need to tune it, i`m just a hobby shooter. I did take the weapon apart many moons ago and lubricated the spring assy and what not. May have stretched the spring somewhat but it`s been so long now i can`t remember. You are right there is a fair amount of recoil in the HW50 so i try to hold on tight. My Bushnell scope keeps sliding backwards every time i fire, lol. Right now my target is a 4 inch wide lightpole at 110 yards. I can hit it every time so the accuracy is pretty decent but of course have to aim a bit high as i`m aiming for the top. I found the round pellets will Not fly straight so i am using some vintage superpoints from Dynomite Nobel which seems to fly straight. They are 0.53g. I had a look online and was amazed how many different projectiles they have in 4.5mm these days. I had no idea about that so will have to try a few heavier rounds just for fun, maybe the slugs from JSB, lol.

    There is a Ballistol could blueing too! I have good experience with! For keeping your gun finish for long time even in bead weather conditions I like to use the Ballistol "gunex" smells like heavy diesel ❤ even black powder guns don't rust after that. The ballistol multi purpose oil I am using for the barrel cleaning before gunex. For airguns use only oil that doesn't harm your rubber seal. • @razor1962
      @razor1962  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      50 yards with a 50s is absolutely possible.
      Many will tell you that a fixed barrel air rifle has the potential to outshoot a break barrel. This makes perfect sense. However, I'm not a good enough shot to confirm this claim. I have both rifles. For shooting off of a bench like I do, the 97 is probably the better choice. For carrying scenarios, such as hunting, the 50s would be a better choice, in my opinion.

  • @mybluebelly
    @mybluebelly ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought a HW 50 back in 2000. I still have it and i do use it occasionally. Don`t know if it is an "S" model though. There was one major flaw with my rifle though that to this day persists. The barrel has a locking mechanism where two metal pieces grind against each other. Well the rear metal part, the one that is not spring loaded and is a part of the weapons metal "chassis" started to shed small metal shaving every time i would lock the barrel and so now i have a barrel that will not lock properly into place. You can easily see the defect down there. The sporting shop that sold it to me told me there was a big fire at the Weirauch factory around that time so they could not supply me with new parts or whatever. If this was a blatant lie or not i have no idea. I tightened the bolt that holds the barrel pretty hard so this helps with aliigning the barrel. Anyone else who has had this problem? Not sure if it can be fixed.

  • @pacmancalgary
    @pacmancalgary 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I've got one of these from about 5 years ago. This past season I noticed it grinding when I was cocking it. After doing some online research, it appears to be a common issue with the particular Weihrauch model (along with the HW30s). Have you noticed any grinding on yours and, if so, have you been able to correct it? I'm not overly skilled and have never taken apart an air rifle before but some websites suggest just removing the wooden portion from the metal barrel portion should give access to using some emory paper and sanding down the rough spots of the cocking linkage. For what it's worth, my is a 0.22 pellet size and it's supposed to be under 495 fps to comply with Canadian laws (this one is for people like me without a formal gun license). However, when I took it to the air rifle range and we measured the speed of the pellets, it was shooting at 560 - 575fps. This aligns with the specs you suggest in your video for the .22 version. I wonder if Weirauch doesn't bother to swap out springs on the .22 designated for countries like Canada as it's so close in stock form to the 495fps rules or maybe I got one that just slipped by on the production line. Either way, using this past summer I was able to kill ground squirrels with one shot when I was at my friends farm with this rifle. He was quite impressed with the knock down power of the .22 and the way the gun felt. I was using a cheap $40 scope from Amazon and it was quite fun that day.

    • @razor1962
      @razor1962  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never had a problem with any grinding sounds with mine. To keep your gun under the 500 ft per second limit you could probably simply buy heavier pellets. I'm glad you're enjoying your rifle can't go wrong with a model 50s

      just get some molly grease and a small cheap artists paint brush , take off the stock and use the brush to put some molly grease inside where the cocking arm goes , give it 30 more shots untill it starts graunching again and repeat the process , i had to do my 99s 3 times and now its perfect

      Aren't you in danger of being accessed severe penalties and expensive attorney fees for owning and firing an overpowered air gun?

    • @pacmancalgary
      @pacmancalgary 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@senatorjosephmccarthy2720 I suppose it's possible. The thing is, Weihrauch sold the gun to the distributor in Canada with the 495 FPS stick on the box as per the law. The distributor sold it to me and I haven't modified the gun in any way at all. There are some variables that could be at play here and I'm not familiar with how the law works with this at all. Perhaps the pellets I'm using are lighter weight than what the government requires for testing, and that's giving the higher speeds. Perhaps the chronygraph at the Air Range that I tested it isn't calibrated properly. Perhaps it was a pellets that were an anomaly that caused this or perhaps Weihrauch put the wrong spring in the gun or doesn't bother testing them like they should be. I don't know what the answer is but feel that I don't have enough information (or the means/skill/knowledge to test it in a controlled environment) to confirm these things. Therefore, I'm leaving it as is and will trust that Weihrauch did what they were supposed to do when selling the gun to a Canadian distributor with the 495 sticker on the box and laser engraved on the barrel of the gun

      @@kamranwal10 No typo. Vortek Kit is a high output version. Shoots 14.66 gr. Pellets at 717fps. That equates to 16.7 ft lbs.

    I'm very confused whether I should choose hw50s or hw30s, I want power like hw50s but also light like hw30s, can you help me to decide

    • @razor1962
      @razor1962  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you thinking of hunting with your rifle? If so, the 50 is the way to go. If not and all you're interested in is plinking and target shooting then the 30 is my choice. Easy to cock. Crazy accurate and you can put a Vortek high performance tune kit in it which will get you up around 9-10 ft lbs. Either gun will please you. I guarantee it.

      Get both. Get them in .177.

      I purchase both with no regrets. Two different air rifles. I shoot both equally as much I can’t handle springer over 12 fpe

    • @Beesa10
      @Beesa10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can, get both. The HW30 is small and has relatively low power, this might not sound like a good thing but for plinking and targets I've found this makes it easy and fun to shoot. The HW30 also had a lower price tag so for me it has been better value for money. The intermediate size of the HW50S seems perfect but I actually shoot it less. You can take small game with either of these rifles, if that was the intended purpose I would probably choose the 50 in .22 (or preferably a PCP).

      I put a Vortek SHO PG4 kit in my .177 HW30. Makes 10 fpe now. Perfect for the back yard. I shoot it out to 50 yards. HW50S is also ideal.
