Firstly,, you do a fabulous job. And thanks.
I mostly appreciate when you talk about group size, and show it.
To say something is accurate, has no meaning. And no measurable value.
But as far as accuracy goes, that is if you're not playing games.
If you can't hit your target first time, every time, then you are either too far away, or the target is too small.
And that is , in my opinion , your affective range.
And thanks again,,, you are the reason I got into air rifles...

Never mind beginners Giles, I’ve been shooting airguns for over forty years and still do and recently bought the 99s for a grab and shoot gun for those pesky rats that think they can set up home under my sheds over winter and this does just the the job. I put a 3-9x40 scope on the top and when I first took it out to zero it was putting pellet through pellet at 30 yards, didn’t have to mess on with that trigger as it was set up just right for me straight out of the box. I paid £210 for mine in 22 plus a tin of lead thrown in. I now have a cabinet full of Weihrauch’s and wouldn’t think of any other make, if it ain’t broke eh?

My first air rifle was the 99s in .177 , i still have it to this day and its been an absolute dream this past 5 years ,never an issue with it ,very accurate even at 50 meters ,i can highly recommend this rifle. i did upgrade to a TBT kit which smoothed out the recoil slightly and got rid of that twang ,a worthy upgrade. I would never sell my 99s !!

I've had a HW99s for about 3 years now and despite shooting HFT with a BSA pre-charged rifle, I always go back and have a shoot with the 99 it's a great little rifle. If you are buying one new, I would recommend a good clean inside the action and a re-lube as the factory does not leave them terribly clean. I'd also polish the spring ends, but apart from that......brilliant.

My HW50 loves RWS Hobbies, 11.9 grains. 670 fps. 1/2" groups at 25 yards with open sights. Perfect size, weight, and power. If I could have only one air rifle, this would be it.

Ergonomically speaking the HW 99 are near perfect for adults. Just large and heavy enough to feel solid. Yet short, light and well balanced to enable wobble free offhand shooting for hours.
HW99 is the UK version. It is called the HW 50 in rest of world.

I’ve a HW99s in .22 that’s been worked on by liquid steel designs and it was grouping around 15mm at 40 when I got it and has a variable shot spread of 3-5fps the 99s is my favourite rifle to shoot I’ve taken mine out to 75 yards on knockdowns

Spot on Giles. The 99 is a great little rifle. I would suggest the entry level BSA Lightning at around the same price is a worthy rival (although I prefer the 99). The 99 is very tuneable - the results the good tuners get from it are remarkable and it's also easily fettled by the DIYer. You mentioned the HW30. That has to be the nicest starter/junior gun available (imho, obvs). I got one a few years back to try to get my daughter interested in shooting. She didn't take to it, but I still have the HW30. At between 7 and 8 ft lb, It's ideal for garden/backyard plinking and doesn't disgrace itself out at 30 yards and further.

I have a 97kt stainless action and a hw80k and i'm still thinking of buying one of these for my collection, both of mine can be incredibly weighty walking around and standing up shooting for hours, the 99s is THE best budget rifle out there, its just deciding wether or not i want a 99s or a 95k to achieve the more portable rifle.. so many options and not enough money! Lol

Excellent choice Giles. I have 3 HW50S (cousin to the 99S) in silver 22, blued 177 and a Pro Hunter 177 version by AoA...all tuned by Allen Z. They are great guns. I also had a 177 and 22 tuned by Allen Z. here in the states for my sons...all of our 50S guns are one hole guns using a scope at 40 yards. I think Si Pittaway, Verminhunters TV would also agree...he has used a number of the 99S guns in his UK hunting videos.

Great review and good to see a springer back in the reviews. At the money why look elsewhere they make the best springers out there, reliable, accurate and last ( my hw35 is now 45 yrs old and still going). Better still for the beginner the iron sights will teach you how to shoot properly so use them they actually work on an HW, unlike many others.

In the last 10 ish years I've had a lot of Weihrauch's 80s 77s 97s 95s and I've got to say these 99s are really very good, lightweight very accurate, l would say that they are much better stripped and rebuild using moly grease and bit of preload, piston sleeve to stop the twang and there much better. Mine likes RWS H points and FTTs.

Giles, just an observation: You need to follow through and "pin the trigger back" until after you hear the target strike for best accuracy; rather than get off the trigger immediately, like you might for burst firing a full-auto.
Yes, you want to get your finger off the trigger before shifting your attention away from the target, after the shot. But, there is no need to get off the trigger as if it might bite you.

I have been wanting one of these for a couple of years now, what has stopped me getting one is the forums and the term "galling" and the 100s of people saying "don't touch them"! is this really an issue on the 99s? I would pick one up in a heartbeat from my local RFD but i would just like some real world clarification on this. I am looking to add a .22 springer to the stable and i would like it to be the 99s. I bought the crosman nitropiston rifle in .22 for 80 bucks on sale and it shoots awesome. Good quality for the money and shoots very accurate. Is it as nice as this rifle? Well the trigger is not but with the nitropiston i would argue it's darn close. You should review one yourself, order from walmart.

    • @MDM1992
      @MDM1992 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Cant really compare a NP to a SP though totally different action, most nitro's could be seen as amazingly accurate due to no recoil when compared to spring piston and crosmans build quality is nowhere near weihrauch, although there is some lovely shooting crosmans out there. But i would say with an equivalent rifle, im almost certain on a level playing field the weihrauch would have an edge, i am weihrauch biased though, only ever trusted bsa and weihrauch for my hunting rifles and none have ever let me down cheap crosmans and krals and hatsans etc have always been plinkers to me rather than reliable hunting weapons because i could instantly notice the shot group being considerably wider with them

🍺 what is the difference between this and the 95k? Ignoring the obvious open sights and moderator changes.

I hear the galling is hit and miss these days, some do, some don't... Nick stanning from tbt has a video about a permanent galling fix which is simple and easy to do.
I have a 99s in .177 with tbt drop in kit, shortened/threaded barrel and weihrauch moderator, 3-9x40 hawke vantage on top and it's Lazer accurate. Absolutely recommend a hw99s to anyone in the market for an all round well made springer. (I have quite a few different Spring rifles and this is by far the easiest to shoot accurately and doesn't seem to be hold sensitive like my hw80k)

Springer are not friendly to scopes

Oh yes they are, 50 caliber may not be, Ak 47 may not be, but spring airguns no problem at all with scopes, thanks for your coment.

Unless you get a springer friendly scope. Hawke scopes are cheap and warranted for life.

British sold sub standard - 12 fpe max rifles tend to not wreck scopes too bad.
