  • I just bought this Burley COHO XC bike trailer. I towed it 80km with a really heavy load for a camping trip to North Norfolk. What did I think of it?
    Oh, by the way, watch out for the deer on the bridge just in front of me!
    A well-made and designed utility trailer.
    See how I got on and what I think.
    Thanks for watching.

    I've just ridden 800 miles down the west coast of France towing a Burley Coho Xc. It was faultless and carried all my gear for camping and the cargo net even let me store provisions and water purchased as I went. I did use the extra panniers and the cargo bag, again they performed without fault.

    Nice review, thought I would just add my experiences ... I have had my Coho for nearly two years now and go bikepacking and take my dog out generally using my e-bike and the coho trailer regularly, My lovely dog comes along with me seated in the trailer with some of our tent gear, he has a foam base (waterproof)which I installed for him to sit on whilst travelling which when we are camping and I remove for him to sleep on, my panniers are seated on the rear of my bike and not on the trailer do I use the rear mudguard of the trailer for carrying a lightweight chair and when stopping as a dining table! . The trailer handles amazingly (turning circle not good but as said in another review its easy to remove and replace simply even with panniers on) We have had no problems to date, much of my gear is in separate drybags in the trailer as this makes it easier to pack around my dog space.. I would recommend just considering the fatter tyre upgrade as the rear spring is sorta adjustable but feel the needs for a little more comfort if carrying mans best friend on longer journeys!, hillier terrain is not a problem with the ebike but if it gets a little bumpy for the dog or if its its difficult terrain and safe to do so off road he runs alongside.. but all in all a great versatile trailer!

      hello, this is my original idea to carry my best friend, a dog of 30 kls. medium size, do you think it's possible? my english is not good , but i think i did not see the weight or size of your puppy . thank you very much and your comment is very helpful

    • @divum

      @bekantas thanks for your comment. The trailer could easily carry a dog, BUT the manufacturer clearly states NOT to be used for animals. I have seen on TH-cam other videos with a dog, so yes, it is possible.

    Good review, especially the detail on the mounting to the bike, which looks really well engineered. I'd considered a Bob Yak trailer before, not dissimilar to this one. I was up at Baconsthorpe Meadows on my bike a couple of weekends back, on the pitch right next to where you filmed this vid. Thanks again for the review, need to save my pennies.

    I was on tour over 4000km at June-July, with an total weight of 38kg. I went first to the pyrenaes in Spain then to Italy to the Abruzzian mountains. There was no defect at all. But I am not really satisfied with it: The trailer is difficulty to drive at higher downhill speed (up 30km/h) and side wind. As an Engineer i locate that problem at the upper tube off the frame witch makes a down sweep to the front were the variable width yoke is connected. It is also difficult to drive with very low speed at windy tracks, there is often a side force at the bicycle front wheel. And at least the dumper they used is the cheapest and baddest what is on market. It is jumping like a crowd off rabbits. Unfortunately there is no other damper fitting due proprietary mechanical dimensions.

    interesting idea. You say you could feel it up the hills, but were they 'big hills'. I went around Suffolk / Norfolk a few months ago, my first week-long trip, and I was pushing A LOT around Dedham.
    I think I spotted the PodSac plastic cage mounts on your front forks. I moved to these after struggling with the Blackburn Outpost cage mounts. The mounts were fine, but I struggled to attach them securely to my suspension forks. The Podsac ones connect much better with the jubille clips that slot into grooves on the cages, and don't move an inch.

    • @divum
      @divum  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the hills weren't too big. And yes Podsac front fork panniers. I'm still trying the trailer out, but so far so good 👍🚲

    Most, maybe all one-wheel chassis cargo trailers endanger stability and make steering hard. Especially when you load it unevenly. Take a two-wheel trailer.

  • @utubeape
    @utubeape 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That is a superb design. I take it the trailer has a pivot point where the U shapre from the wheel meets the vertical pole before the main hold area?
    The mudgard / seat part looks nice and sturdy, I was thinking of a trailer and mounting a flexible solar panel to charge an ebike battery and take 2 batteries to have on charging in the back all day. The solar panel would double as a rain cover.
    Do you feel that the one wheel design makes it less likely to tip over on a corner? The reason I asked is because I made a wood trailer for my ebike but tipped it over after clipping the kerb, it caused a bit of a situation with drivers glaring and tutting at me as I gathered my bits together (I haven't used it since!)

    • @divum
      @divum  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. Yes, there’s a pivot with a quick release skewer. I like the solar panel idea!
      As far as single wheel design over twin wheel is concerned, I can't comment. I have pulled a child's trailer behind my bike with twin wheels, but I was really careful because the children sat in it. I feel the single wheel is superior for cargo/camping, but that's just a feeling! Thank you.

    I wonder about your experience with the trailer and the Trek Madone road bike combo. Are there any concerns to tow the trailer reasonably loaded with regards to the frame of the Trek, whether it is of aluminium or CF type?! Thanks!

    • @divum
      @divum  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Trek is CF, and so is the Canyon Exceed MTB. Naturally, aluminum (metal) has better torsional properties. So far, I have not experienced too much twisting with heavy loads, and the Trek is fine. Thanks for watching.
