@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Oops just commented with this question myself, glad it got cleared up. I was so confused spending like 15min thinking Eathersworn had some hidden combination with Winota to get around the Non-Human trigger or something lmao.
I've been really impressed by the power of the hatebear beatdown decks in CEDH, they seem like they can really compete with the blue-based combo decks and are also really fun to watch.
It's pretty interesting to see EDH begin as a battle cruiser format. Then evolve into a noncreature format. Then re-volve back into a battle cruiser format.
Winota is really interesting. When she was first spoiled I was just like “eh” but she makes real good showings in TH-cam gameplays. I might have to look a bit more into her
As a mainly Boros player, I can tell you that she is not only the most powerful Boros commander out there, but is single-handedly responsible for making Boros cEDH viable. Before Winota, it was pretty fringe in cEDH.
Not a fan of the build here but I play her in edh rather than CEDH, so aggro builds are more viable. She's also broken as a 99 in many decks. I like to have her in my najeela.
Some tough battling there. This video just shows that cEDH is not what everyone thinks it is all the time . Yes the turn 4 or less wins do happen often but this was 13 slugging turns and was great.
I love how the narrator acts like fetching a basic land is the best play in the world and then has very little reaction to sword of feast and famine! Great content PWP, seriously though.
REPRESENT REBBEC. As a hardcore Vorthos individual that was amazing to see. Also I have never in my life considered building a Simic EDH deck but Tatyova may just be the Simic deck for me. PS: Those Mana Crypts did some damage WORK in this showdown
Just wanted to mention that the linked deck list for Thrasios/Vial Smasher is 97 cards + 2 commanders for a total of 99 instead of 100. Didn't know if that was an oversight in the build or a transpositional error in writing the list. Love the content as always, thanks for another upload!
I seriously love this content, it’s what got me into edh! In this video, I have to say I think the most valuable card should have gone to Tatyova. Yeah, Winona did win the game, but the only reason Zach was able to stay in that long was because Tatyova kept drawing and gaining. Is that a good assumption to make?Still, another awesome match, and I may or may not be planing a Tatyova deck now.
I'm truly happy of seeing a monowhite deck! Please use it more often, I would like to make it just as is, nevertheless please play it more in upcoming videos, to see if it's worth it! :D
Yeah, this is a pretty big illegal play there. I mean, the whole downside of Winota is that you need a mix of humans and non-humans in the deck. I can't fathom how he missed that part.
@@BarbeChenue Easy, this shit happens. Especially when recording or streaming, but in any game of magic there's often so much to keep track of that stuff like this is easy to miss.
Magic is hard. Sometimes you look at the art on a card an assume it's a certain creature type. It helps to keep the game from slowing to a crawl when you double check everything. Unfortunately this happens from time to time.
Did Mike get a flip off Ethersworn? I'm almost positive I didn't actually flip any cards off it attacking, I think that was an error in editing. (Mike here)

17:34 Doesn't Charles get a second Teshar trigger from the lightning greaves? Or did he have nothing else in his yard? When he cast Cursed Totem, he could have used the Teshar trigger to at least get back the Greaves.
4:37 I think there was a misplay on the Winota triggers, Etherswon Canonist is a human which means it shouldn't proc Winota and the 2nd trigger which was a fail to find shouldn't have happened. Unless I'm missing something on board which removes human creature type. On a related note Moggcatcher is listed as a human mercenary on gatherer, they just haven't updated the image or reprinted it.
How did the ethersworn canonist trigger winota? It’s a human cleric. Unless I’m missing something. Someone please enlighten me, I recently just brewed winota.
15:55 a more reasonable player would Rift and gain life through Deathrite Shaman, but its better to meme it and use Shaman's lose 2 life ability and hopefully live through it or die from it
Why didn't Mike crack his Jewelled Lotus turn 1 for his commander? I assume he didn't want to put a target on his head or couldn't get value out of her but that two colour 4 CMC commander with a Lotus in your opening hand is like the best case scenario for that card.
Am I not understanding something about Winota? Surely the winota trigger does not go on the stack when Aethersworn Cannonist attacks, since its a human?
16:27 Classic situation in multi-player control, having to discern the point of inflection where you move from controlling to trying to win and conflating not losing and winning. Your primary goal as a control deck is NOT LOSING, its an immediate and constant goal/threat. In this situation, every time the correct response is to fire off your Cyclonic Rift. The boardstate threat is fine and you can stabilize, but the on-cast trigger is not a surface area you can combat adequately. It only being a 33% chance to hit you is negligible- It will happen eventually regardless of planning. Delaying dice rolls with your life naturally extends it. Another thing to consider is Drannith would likely be replayed ASAP, locking Zack down (No Tatyova = no draws = less threat for a couple turns), this eliminates some inherent negative CA incurred by needing to respect opponents options, as you have completely reset one player's goals and added multiple obstacles. Mike then becomes the primary threat, and Winota is the cost reducer, kinda sucks to have so many things you cannot recast easily in hand. Some are tutors, though, so again, Mike would be the primary threat. If you can interact and stop Mike from replaying Winota until the Drannith hits, you're fine rebuilding for several turns. Gives you time for a HP buffer and to advance your boardstate immensely while opponents try to get through what is at best a time walk for them.
