    This is the best city builder game I've ever played, and yes, it is pretty complex.

    Not gonna lie, the game is not for everyone. But 3 hours of gameplay for a review is pretty nothing.

      It is not meant as a full review, but first impressions (as titled) after an evening of playing.
      I can see many people refunding/regretting this after that amount of playtime. This will either save people that, OR be a signal (given the replies here in the comment section!) that this might actually be perfect for them!

      @@TheDutchActuary I'll put it like this: I have 2.7k hours in this game since its in early access, and I haven't even tried some of the mechanics...Its an extremely complex game - all you can reasonably tell after 3 hours are the start options which would have let you remove the necessity to arrange transport of food to your supermarkets, and in general allow players to adjust difficulty by turning entire systems off to reduce complexity; the graphics, the first bit of the tutorial, price, DLC-availability - which if looked into might have shown you the point about current events is kinda hard to make.
      The point about food transport shows the problem: The game allows you to import by truck, air or ship, produce yourself and transport to your supermarket accordingly, or in easier settings to just auto buy it - if you auto buy you can chose if you want to purchase using rubles or dollars, because you have two money accounts depending if you want to buy stuff from the west or the east....Thats why the game can't just automatically set the shops to the option you want - it'll be preset to one of the options, and its on you to adapt it to what you want...
      Your point only makes sense if you aren't aware of this - so either you haven't put enough hours in to make the overview you want to make, or you are making an overview on the wrong topics for the amount of hours you want to put in...either way your overview and the amount of hours you put in don't fit together.

      The tutorial is not doing a good job, control and ui are bad. 2 hours is enough for me to give up. From the review i know this is a good game, but afterall it just come down to personal perference. Its ok that you are enjoying and other ppl dont. ❤

  • @TheYoukarel
    @TheYoukarel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Actually, it is always about personal preferences and what each likes, .... so for me the graphic is totaly perfect, and much better than shiny cities skyline for example. The robust and rusty architecture is just exactly what must be in such type of game.
    you did 2 mistakes:
    1st: the second intro video is about 5 years old, so many things has been improved since that and is your big fault, that you didnt stream video which is totaly new, and posted on the main websites of 3division studio.
    2nd: you played to little. This game is huge and complex and all the bad reviews and evaluation from other players who gave a bad score to this title, is ALWAYS from such, who doesnt have a patiente and time to play it more deeply. Bcs they dont want to. OK, its not your cup of tea, and you mentioned that.
    So this is not a fault of the game, but of the type of the players and their ""quite simple and easy" attitude to the world around them. For such players it is really better to play different game, where the players are led by the hand and is them directly shown where to click and what to do.... :)
    and 3rd thing: You could at least mention more than 9400 (!) mods for this game on the workshop from huuuge community of modders.
    With regards :)

    This is more of a factory sim along the lines of Factorio than a traditional city builder. The complicated logistics isn't a detraction, it's the whole point of the game. It's also, with all the difficulty settings turned on, a brutally difficult city survival game. If you liked Factorio or Frostpunk or Banished, you'll probably love it.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting comparison, because I actually highly enjoyed Frostpunk but this one just didn't click.

    • @OrangeNash
      @OrangeNash 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Doesn't it lack the science type progress that Factorio/Dyson Sphere etc have? I think this game doesn't have any specific goals. You are bulding for the sake of building, which is more like a regular city builder. Factorio without the science flasks, maybe.

  • @Tiki832

    A good distinction to make is that the game is very much firmly in the 'City Logistics Simulator' realm of the City Builder genre.
    If someone is more looking for a 'City Painter' like Sim City, Cities Skylines and such, where you just paint down where you want things and everything will 'Just work' albeit perhaps less efficiently if you paint your city poorly, then they're likely to bounce right off of this game.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You hit the nail on the head there I think. This game is more about ' city engineering ' rather than ' city building ' to paraphrase your earlier point. I personally like the latter, but not the former.
      This type of classification is very useful (although i'll need to come up with better named distinctions) for future reviews I think!

    Thing is, this is as much a logisitics/factory simulator as it is a city builder (it's actually a small country builder lol) on a large scale, especially if you play with realistic mode (the best way to play this game IMO) where you can't even buy like the food for your super market on a menu, you have to send a truck buying it at a customs house at the edge of the ginormous map and then deliver it to your supermarket until you grow and process your own food/clothing, etc... Also you have to transport the materials required and then have your machinery/workers to build a building (and it's done in stages), you don't just plop it with cash (well, you can on easy mode). Very intricate game and it's sure not for everyone.

    For those who are on the fence about this game: This reviewer has clearly no idea what he's talking about. The game is very demanding and the reviewer hasn't put in the necessary effort. For this reason, this review mostly consists of erroneous information, which is impressive in itself.
    Watch the following review instead, as that one is from someone taking their job seriously: th-cam.com/video/kMIozhRm0-M/w-d-xo.html

  • @Kenjuudo
    @Kenjuudo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    This review was undeservedly damning. I have over 400 hours in the game and I'm still far from understanding the intricacies of all the mechanics. That said, you failed to mention that you can turn off all the complex mechanics individually when you start a new game and can transform it into a dumb city builder if you so choose.
    The reason why you need to order food etc. in the store is because you can produce it, and you need to set up the logistics of where it gets it. Once set up however, you don't have to micro manage it any more (lest something goes wrong elsewhere that would impact it).
    For the curious reader: This game has a steep learning curve but it's incredibly rewarding once you get it and things start working. It takes a lot of dedication but is absolutely worth it!
    For non-masochists: The classic noob error that everyone makes is to try to play it on realistic mode. Don't. In realistic mode you cannot afford to make any huge mistakes and so you need to know the mechanics pretty intimately before you do. The realistic mode is the difficulty to the right of "hard" for a reason.

      @@TheDutchActuary I understand your point but there are a lot of excellent games that don't/didn't have a tutorial to start with (even games featured on your channel) and usually the tutorial is only added towards/after the 1.0 release when everything is stable or not even at all. (think of Factorio, terraria, openttd, kerbal space program, or even minecraft where there was no way to know how to even make a pickaxe if you didn't look it up). Usually they eventually add a tutorial once everything is stable but in the early access, it requires you to look things up. Even captain of industry although it has some tutorial, I also find looking dull and not intuitive, yet it's fun.
      However, For a game this complex it would definitely be a LOT more helpful to have an in-game tutorial to help with the basics. And the person here claiming your 'skill issue' is obviously wrong as well and it's a rather sad reaction. This game is very complex and not for everyone. It doesn't involve skill but willingness to invest the time to learn and if you're into a game with this much control over everything.
      Thanks for the review! I know that you asked if people want to see reviews of games you don't like, just know you'll always 'hurt' people who do love the game or put a lot of effort into it. The difficult choice of a reviewer I guess! I appreciate your honesty though and I think you were very clear that this might be the game for us, just not for you personally.

      @TheDutchActuary  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@jasperb7890 Thank you for the constructive points! I do agree that some games improve on that tutorials later on, but sadly many of them don't (or not enough). There are also many examples of early access games that do have solid tutorials.
      As a fan of the more complex genres, I do believe should be a focus of attention. Making your game accessible by teaching your players how it works should be a standard in my opinion - not something developers should rely on others on.
      Not only does it likely mean less players will be turned away from your game, it also helps grow the community of players. Win/win for all involved.

    Honestly, I don’t think this review is fair. You’ve barely played the game (3 hours isn’t even enough to get your first few people in realistic mode). Sure, the game is targeted towards those who are interested in highly detailed simulations, but the way you’ve presented the game puts off those who might still be on the fence about it. I’d recommend playing the game for a good few more hours before posting a video reviewing it. I do agree with your criticisms as to the UI and graphics, but comparing it to games from the 90s/2000s is an absolute stretch. I do appreciate the effort put into the review though as even a short video requires a considerable amount of effort. Thanks and I hope to see more from you :)

      Thank you for the constructive feedback! I will make sure to stress more in future videos that a 'first impressions' video is definitly not the same as a 'full review', as it seems to have confused more people.
      That said, I normally prefer the ' full review ' style much more anyway as I believe it adds more value for those considering to play it, so generally I will stick to that anyway.

    I think its very dangerous to spread false information, and even more so when its on purpose.
    0:36 "trading with allied forces as well as Russians on the other side..." You are falsifying information for what? Personal gain? To cause a stir? To seem clever?
    You have a decent sized channel with some influence, why would you make up things? Its fine that you dont like the game. Its fine that you dont appreciate the complexity and content...but stating things wrong is simply disappointing.
    Western allies are a product of world war 2. The game names them NATO, which is a collection of western states. Russians as a country didn't exist after world war 2, because it was part of the soviet union or Warsaw pact, the same collection ukraine and Slovakia (game devs location) are also from. The whole former soviet union is full of symbolism found in this game, including, but not exclusive to Russia.
    With that statement you made it sound like the devs are supporting russia in any way which is simply false. They have taken in refugees and supported Ukraine with the Ukraine DLC (still do). Most of the imagery in game is from Slovakia, and some from Ukraine and other places.
    Every once in a while someone comes to the forums implying what you just implied, and i hope you just didn't know what youve said, but if you did, shame on you. There is enough made up press all over the world. Either keep your videos clean or dont, but dont pretend. Saying "i wanna keep politics out" and then doing the opposite is simply hypocritical.

Far worse, as it is just unnapealing game, no matter the ouder and louder Soviet music blasting through your brain. It would be amazing if they would added the inherent corruption, like a bureaucrat signing on a paper requisitioning more material where he takes a bribe from the local producer of bricks to give him that commision, and the consequent theft, a builder "stealing" bricks and concrete for his own house during "government" commision, with everyone doing either the same or just looking elsewhere. And yea, that was happening, constantly everywhere, my grandfather was a typical bricklayer all his life. Who doesn't steal, steals from his family was an unofficial, and still is, motto of SSSR/Russia.
