i wished every 'how to' fishing video was as helpful as this one. great explanation followed by visual proof that the technique actually works. please make more videos on every fishing style ever invented. fantastic job!
Your videos are very informative and we appreciate the time you spent making these videos. After watching this video i was able to flip and pitch a jig better than before. I would like to thank you for the knowledge and skills you a giving to us. Thank you and God bless you more.
Great video once again. One of the best pitching and flipping contrasts I've seen, thank you. Always nice when the bass jump on your jig during the lesson!
Another great vid, Flukemaster! I was lifting and dropping jigs like a T-rigged worm. Probably looked un-natural and was too fast. The quick double pop and leave set is the key. Great system. You belong on the B.A.S.S. Tour or FLW Tour; you'd win, too.
FlukeMaster, you have done it again! Seriously, a fantastic video. You talk bass like no other. I enjoy each video you make and why you don't have your own television show is beyond me. I watch the Big Boys and they are so into looking good, promoting their sponsor, that they forget the main reason to watch their show is to learn! You can tell you have paid your dues by hours and hours and hours of practice and fishing. We have visited by email before and buddy never worry you have what it takes
Goodness. I guess I've been saving your videos for longer than I thought! Just learning flipping and pitching and here your video is in my saved library! Still very useful information, that's for sure.
Just getting into Jig fishing, so i thought "who else would I go to watch besides Flukemaster Gene Jensen". Exactly the kind of video I needed along with the multiple other jig videos to learn this technique. Many of us here in WV wait for new videos and share them amongst ourselves and on FB. You're widely appreciated up here for all the knowledge & videos! Thanks Gene! P.S. I believe we saw this Cyprus tree in a dropshotting video later on, though I may be wrong. This tree produces fish! Lol
@gowolves4 That's really a loaded question. If you fish light jigs that are 1/4 oz and smaller and you fish big crankbaits and 1/2oz or heavier spinnerbaits then you could get buy with a MH rod with 12lb or 15lb test. But if you want to fish big jigs then you need a Heavy rod 15 to 20lb test, and if you want to fish most crankbaits and spinnerbaits you need a Med Moderate action rod with 10lb or 12lb test line.
@Bluebuzzkidd Thanks, I call the color "Classic". It is based off of the jig that Charlie Hartley used in the '07 Bassmaster Classic. I was interviewing him and he let me get a picture of the jig and a couple of years later I started making a living rubber jig in that color. It has put hundreds of bass in my boat.
"he just thumped it"...lol. Nice video man, I appreciate the tips...especially the tip about grass. I am in the process with jig fishing and I love using them. I caught one or two Bass so far, but as I said I am in the process. Nice video!
@Timothyk11 I flip is more accurate and makes less splash than a pitch. It's used when you need to hit a target the size of a shot glass. You are also able to fish a lot faster when flipping. A pitch is used when the water is fairly clear and you need to stay back from the cover to avoid spooking the fish.
@Achap95 As you know it always boils down to what the bass want. In early spring and post cold front conditions I have let it sit for as long as 10 seconds before getting a hit and that's not just for one fish. That was the pattern for the whole day. (10 seconds-a little shake and BAM fish on) The first time that happened it blew my mind.
Yep. I have a video that talks about many of the different heads and what they are designed for. You can find it in my Jig Playlist on my Channel Page.
@kristina2799 I almost always fish heavy grass with a soft plastic. Usually a Rage Craw. I ether fish it T-Rigged with a heavy weight or I fish what's called a Rage Rig. I'm going to make a video about that rig this week and It will probably be the first video I upload this week. So stay tuned.
Yes. Even if it's a light wire hook. A jig with a heavy hook should be fished with a MedHvy or Hvy action rod and at least 17lb test line. I prefer 20lb line.
For bank fishing I love to use a light jig like a 1/4oz or smaller and I trim the skirt up and tend to use smaller trailers. That's because I hardly ever see big craws and baitfish around the shallows.
@BassSlayer2 I fish that jig most of the time. I will switch to a finesse jig with a Baby Rage Craw or a Zoom Super Chunk Jr. when the water gets below 50 degrees. I won't fish a jig when it's so windy I can't feel a bite.
I use straight Fluorocarbon. It's more of a confidence thing for me. I set the hook so hard that I'm afraid that if I tie on a leader it will break at the knot. I don't like braid for jigs because I fish a lot of clear water and I feel that I'm missing bites because the bass can see the line. I don't use mono because it stretches to much.
For a 1/4oz jig I use a Duckett 7' Med Casting rod with 15lb Izorline XXX line. For anything heavier I use a Duckett 7"3' Med Heavy or Heavy with 20lb Izorline XXX line. All rods have a Revo 7.3:1 reel on them.
@Winkiedoodles Thanks. It was just a short explanation on flipping and pitching. I left out some important details but that will be coming in a future video.
Just started fishing, 40year old... I really love how you throw your line. I have basic equipment. what reel are you using? what rod? so cool how you fish.
No one has explained it as good as you thanks a lot can't wait to try it out. But do you think you can do a video on Texas rigging jigs? If not can you use the same tech.?
Gotta gift card to gander mountain. Gonna grab a 7.7 heavy. Where can I get those jig s? You're the best! Straight to the nitty gritty. No b.s with you.
Awesome video! If you could and find the time, can you make a video on feeling the actual bite, and not a rock or log. I seem to have this problem a lot.
great video! hey how do you choose your type of jigs depending on the weather and time of year? you have your finesse and swimming jigs and all these type of jigs and i dont know what and when to throw them. thanks
There was a time when I wasn't a believer in rattles but I've had my tail handed to me by my fishing partner who would add rattles on the same jig I was fishing. So now I put them on every jig no matter what the water clarity.
It all depends on the type of jig you are fishing. Some are better for rocks but are bad in weeds. Others are made for weeds and get hung if fished in rocks.
First! Jigs are phenomenal for large fish. I have won big fish on jigs in tournaments. I have never let my jig sit for a while to let the skirt shake and wave. now I wonder how many fish I've missed from working too fast...
I wouldn't call it a fact. I don't like to change my spool tension because I may want to make a cast or two in between pitches and I don't want to get a backlash when I do. I have learned to do it without loosening the spool tension.
I am attempting to fish with plastics and jigs this season. Already started actually. No luck what so ever, but not giving up. when it comes to setting the hook on a jig, is it the same as you would with plastics? do you set it overhead or a sweeping action like a crankbait?
How do you set up your baitcaster? Do you set the spool as if you were casting or a little looser? What about drag, tighten it up or does the cover matter how you set it?
I was using a jig that I make myself but you can find it online at Siebert Outdoors. It's called "The Flukemaster Jig". The trailer was a Rage Tail Chunk.
hello, i have recently been pitching and flipping jigs a lot. I'm using 40lb power pro braided line. I snapped my line twice, when setting the hook on two bass. I wasn't in any thick structure, just a little vegetation. Both of them jumped right out of the water when my line was snapped. I was wondering if it's my knot that isn't holding up, or I'm letting them inhale the jig for too long.
Am I right to think that the further you cast out the more likely you are to get your jig hung up ? I bank fish and caught a nice(for me) 2+ lb'r using a jig/craw in
As a fellow North Carolinian I salute you. Someone that actually know how to teach and explian techniques at the Amatuer level.... TIGHT LINES friend
i wished every 'how to' fishing video was as helpful as this one. great explanation followed by visual proof that the technique actually works. please make more videos on every fishing style ever invented. fantastic job!
Thanks
Thanks to all your jig videos I tore the farm bass up over the weekend. I even caught the biggest fish I've ever caught. Thanks for the great videos.
Hey man I love your videos, I just want to take the time and say thank you for all your videos you post on youtube.
Your videos are very informative and we appreciate the time you spent making these videos. After watching this video i was able to flip and pitch a jig better than before. I would like to thank you for the knowledge and skills you a giving to us. Thank you and God bless you more.
your by far the best fishing instructor on youtube! thanks man! I'm just getting in to really bass fishing and your channel has helped me the most!
Thank you CJ. I'm glad I can help.
I been trying so hard to catch one on a jig😩 different jigs, trialers, hours of trying with only a few bites... that i missed!
Great video once again. One of the best pitching and flipping contrasts I've seen, thank you. Always nice when the bass jump on your jig during the lesson!

Thanks for the great video! Nice to see someone catch fish during the techniques they're teaching.
thank you! I've learned so much from your videos! I'm starting to become a better fisherman than my husband, thank you!
That's awesome Grainger. Congratulation. There's nothing like a jig bite.
Goodness. I guess I've been saving your videos for longer than I thought! Just learning flipping and pitching and here your video is in my saved library! Still very useful information, that's for sure.
Awesome! Thank you!

Chuck Kendalll Thanks, and yes that's the same group of Cyprus.
Great vid. Gene has a knack for teaching.

thank you, Sir. now i can really use my swim jig properly and hopefully land such a nice fish as you.
Thanks for the great info! I'm just learning how to jig, and this is an invaluable time saver. Much appreciated.
Absolutely love your hookset on that bass
I am a hardcore jig man and this is a great video for anyone to learn from! Also a fellow BR member :).
"he just thumped it"...lol. Nice video man, I appreciate the tips...especially the tip about grass. I am in the process with jig fishing and I love using them. I caught one or two Bass so far, but as I said I am in the process. Nice video!

Subscribed! Great vids, great audio, great editing, great info with expert communication/explanations. Not much more you can ask for.
Great video! All your videos have great information and I have really learned a lot from you! Tight lines
Good video. Ive never done good with Jigs. It always seemed the perfect lure to loose catching rocks & trees with for me.
@Achap95 As you know it always boils down to what the bass want. @kristina2799 Cool, I'm glad I could help. Keep an eye out for some more videos coming soon. I'll be on the water all this week.
Awesome Colin. Congratulations!!!!!
Yes. The trailer is the target that gets the bass to hit the hook. It is a must.
6:23 Let me tell ya about grass.... nice fish! Golden information thank you so much for the awesome explanation.
Yep. I have a video that talks about many of the different heads and what they are designed for. You can find it in my Jig Playlist on my Channel Page.
Cool. I'll take a look at it as soon as I get off the water this afternoon.
Thanks for watching Ralph
Thanks for your comment. In this video I'm using a Dobyns Rod and an Abu Garcia Revo reel.
This video is awesome!! Thank you. Now I've got something to try besides a worm and a bobber. Can't wait to try it!
Nice video. As a beginner i learned quite a bit! you explained it quite well. Thanks!!
I use a Rage Tail Baby Craw. Sometimes I pinch off a little of the body when I want an even smaller profile jig. You can also use a Zoom Baby chunk.
Yes. Even if it's a light wire hook. A jig with a heavy hook should be fished with a MedHvy or Hvy action rod and at least 17lb test line. I prefer 20lb line.

Thanks Joe. God Bless you to.
Thanks man. That really means a lot to me. I'm glad some people see that I really pour my hart into this.
Yes. I use natural color jigs in clear water.
Thanks for sharing your fishing knowledge. Most appreciated.
I have seen those cyprus trees before. I think it was a drop shot video. Good job knowing where the fish live.
I love it when it works out the way you plan it. lol
@Winkiedoodles Thanks. It was just a short explanation on flipping and pitching. I left out some important details but that will be coming in a future video.
I really appreciate your videos...great instruction. Thanks
Thanks! I love videos that teach something. Great!
@kristina2799 When making any cast with a bait caster you always trip the bail before you make the cast. Your thumb is what controls the cast.
@Flippinstick1 Yes it is. It is the best rod that I've ever put in my hands.
Great tip vid. Everyone can learn a lot from watching this.
Love your videos! Very informative & accurate!
Just started fishing, 40year old...
I really love how you throw your line. I have basic equipment. what reel are you using? what rod?
so cool how you fish.
@kristina2799 After it hits the water. You want to be ready to set the hook if the fish hits it on the fall.
No one has explained it as good as you thanks a lot can't wait to try it out. But do you think you can do a video on Texas rigging jigs? If not can you use the same tech.?
Yep, It's one of my favorite spots. There's usually at least one fish on those trees.
I'm not from NC. I live in GA but I guide at a fishing resort in NC.
Gotta gift card to gander mountain. Gonna grab a 7.7 heavy. Where can I get those jig s? You're the best! Straight to the nitty gritty. No b.s with you.
This video helped me with jigs a lot!!!!
Good!
You'll love that combo. It's Richmond Mill Lake.
Another great video!! thanks Gene
Thanks David
@kristina2799 Black and Black and blue are a good choice.
Awesome video! If you could and find the time, can you make a video on feeling the actual bite, and not a rock or log. I seem to have this problem a lot.
Excellent video. I learned a lot. Thanks!
Very informative man thanks! keep the vids coming!!!
great video! hey how do you choose your type of jigs depending on the weather and time of year? you have your finesse and swimming jigs and all these type of jigs and i dont know what and when to throw them. thanks
You make my favorite videos

It all depends on the type of jig you are fishing. Some are better for rocks but are bad in weeds. Others are made for weeds and get hung if fished in rocks.
Brother. You make it look so easy!
Wow I learned allllot thanks I love ur videos!!
First! Jigs are phenomenal for large fish. I have won big fish on jigs in tournaments. I have never let my jig sit for a while to let the skirt shake and wave. now I wonder how many fish I've missed from working too fast...
@teamkicknbass There will be a video about it in a few weeks.
@LimitFisherman48 Man, That's awesome. Congrats.
Great video! it helped me a LOT! Thanks!
Thanks
Great videos and presentation ..
Always set the hook over your head or shoulder never to the side if you can help it.
How do you set up your baitcaster? Do you set the spool as if you were casting or a little looser? What about drag, tighten it up or does the cover matter how you set it?
I don't get on Twitter that much but I'll look you up.
I was using a jig that I make myself but you can find it online at Siebert Outdoors. It's called "The Flukemaster Jig". The trailer was a Rage Tail Chunk.
Take a look at my "Bass fishing with jigs in cold water" video. I go into detail about it there.
hello, i have recently been pitching and flipping jigs a lot.
Great color on the jig!
@Flippinstick1 I'm sorry, It's a 744. A 745 is to heavy for pitching.
Really awsome video.
Living rubber jigs.... Where did you get the components or what did you look for in the components when building and tying your own jig?
These are great videos. Do you use right handed reels only?
Am I right to think that the further you cast out the more likely you are to get your jig hung up ? I bank fish and caught a nice(for me) 2+ lb'r using a jig/craw in
How does the jig style determind how you fish it? Are they always in contact with the bottom no matter what type of jig?
i did not know how to jig fish intell this video thank u
11 year old video being watched on 4/21/2023. thanks Gene!
Thank you Conner
Thanks Josh
Very informative video. Nice job!
