I had to remove my grandfather’s first bass fishing with me by cutting off the barb on one of my favorite cheapy jigs because the hook was set just in front of the poor lil guys eye in the hard bone or cartilage so I figured I’d rather lose my lure and let the future big guy be free worth it
One more thing, the benefit of being a sport fisherman is the virtue of taking care of nature by conservation and rescue of misfortunate wildlife such as the bass with a hook in its throat. Gene, you are a good example of how anglers should approach fishing. Thank you for being on youtube. Sincerely, your subscriber.
Thats what we needed, the basic way to move a jig and get a strike, I don't know why others miss the the basic movement instructions, without them an angler can't fish a type of bait, thanks again Gene.
Haha great video fluke, as always. My dad in 20 years only caught one fish on a jig and it hit as soon as the bait hit the water, he never had confidence in them. I picked one up for the first time and 12 casts later hauled in an 8lb 12oz bass. I ended up teaching my dad how to fish a jig.... haha
I dragged a football jig with a craw trailer behind my kayak the other day while casting a spinner bait. My rod doubled over in the holder and I hauled in a very nice 4 pound Bass.
I look at your videos all the time and try to add something to my plan game every time I’m in the water and it really helps and works for most of the time, thanks and I hope this can meet you some day. Thanks for all your tips , and god bless you.
Definitely do the package opening at the end of the fishing lesson instead of making it a video of its own others do it and it tends to get boring! Thank you for all of the vids helps me out so much!
One of your best instructional videos, especially with the bonus at the end with the fish that swallowed the hook. No telling how many fish I have killed because I did not know what to do.
I CAN NOT IMAGINE ANY ACT OF SPORTSMANSHIP THAT IMPRESSES ME MORE THAN THE COMPASSION AND CARE YOU SHOW TO THE CREATURES OF OUR GOOD EARTH... TEACH US MORE PLEASE.
I have been fishing for over 20 years. So even as a exp bass fishermen i really enjoy your videos and think it's great that you educate the world on fishing correctly.
I watched this video last night used your exact technique and black and blue with trailer. I reeled in a 4lber!! I'm new to bass fishing... started late spring early summer in Tx. Caught a few, but with the heat and not understanding how season effect and pre- post- and all that other jazz.. this was an Amazing rush! Thanks for the information tips and techniques also I wanted to give you a shout out and credit for the catch.
I completely agree with your statement regarding taking a handful of jigs, a couple of rods and nothing else and go fishing. That's the way I've learned o fish every bait I use- topwaters, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and everything else. Eliminate all the distractions and the temptation to switch baits, and force yourself to learn ways to use one bait, alone. Some might think it's crazy to take only a couple Pop-Rs to the lake in February, but they would be more surprised at the number of bass that rise to it.
Ok, so I know this video is two years old at the time of my comment , however I need to thank you. Every season I work on a technique or two to either improve on it or learn it. I've never been a jig fisherman. So this season I thought I put the time in. This morning I watched two of your vidoes on football jigs, and literally, within 1 hour of watching, I was dragging a Z-Man green pumpkin football jig and turbo craw trailer, and managed to catch and land 3lb NJ smallmouth bass. Not bad in my book.
Hi Flukemaster! My name is Aidan and I am 8 years old. I just subscribed to your channel because of what you did with the fish with the hook in its throat. I like your videos. They are so cool. Thank you
more awesome instructional material, thank you. most youtube anglers have been doing all vlogs. which, honestly, are very entertaining. but this is keeping it real
Football jig with a craw trailer rocks! But I have been moving it to fast as you have shown in this video. You made sense about slow and steady man. Thanks and keep the great content coming
I really love these videos because I got into fishing about 2 months ago and was just popping random lures on my line and having NO success, I'm going on a huge fishing trip on Saturday and now I know how to catch some bass. Thank you
Gene - I can't tell you how much I've taken away from watching your videos. I fully appreciate what you do; it's informative, original an helpful to say the least. Thank you man. You've helped me an several others that I know, get onto a ton of fish. Keep it real.
I absolutely love these educational videos! Seriously! Awesome. My home lake is a jig lake. Drag a jig all day long. I gotta try black and blue jig with a green pumpkin trailer. I always have matched the colors. Besides the educational videos I'd like to see a few edited videos of you catching fish and just doing a voice over. Awesome video!
Gene, thank you for your comprehensive videos. Beyond the jig technique, I really appreciated your handling of the fish with the hook in it's stomach. Came across a similar situation, and didn't know what to do... I do now. Thanks.
I make my football jigs in the same fashion as the one you use here. I use the trokar football jig do-it mold and it also has the recessed eye with an angle on the back of the head. Love the presentation of the jigs!!
Great video. It was a good reminder of something else to fish. I have been fishing all shad imatation baits lately and haven't caught many fish. Gonna dust off the football jig this weekend and give her some casts. Thanks
Great video sir. I usually fish on a kayak, and drag a Texas rig with a senko while drifting on a lake...But never a jig, they seem to be easier to fish faster. I'll give a try, thanks for teaching us how to fish
I just found you ,and subscribed . I realy like your no BS way of showing how to fish .I am a realy bad bass fisherman .And I am learning a lot from you ,thanks Dan .
Great video! I've tried jigs a bunch without success. I've actually did go out a few days and fished only the jig, as you suggested and was skunked. after watching this I feel as though I may have been fishing them too fast. I'm going to give them another try and see what's up. I immediately changed my green jig trailer to a black and blue craw. All of your videos are great, and please, feel free to make more on all types of jig!
Man, I'm really happy you're getting more instructional vids out these days. I watch them all, but I like the ones that give me info to take on the water best of all.
Always wanted to learn how to fish with jigs. Just picked up a rod and reel that would handle the job just never fished with them . Thanks for your video i feel i learned enough to give it a shot.
Great video pal, your videos are comprehensive, funny and educational. Getting off that hook of that bass was great an approach not seen very often! Way to go
Noticed your using a Number 8 rod, just got my Number 8 Tackle rod today, decided to pull the trigger on one thanks to you Gene! Can't wait to try it out, thanks!
Thank you very much for what you do! I went out on Lake Acworth here in Ga and slayed them with a black jig head with a green pumpkin trailer, plus a dip in JJ's Magic clear. Someone else turned me onto JJ'S a while back and that stuff is awesome!
I absolutely agree with Gene on fishing a black and blue jig with a green pumpkin trailer. I also fish worms and prefer a green pumpkin worm with blue mixed into it.
I caught a 6.5 pounder on a football head jig up close to that rocky slope that's in the background of this video. You should try there if you haven't already. Tight lines buddy!
My personal best to date came on a jig. Green pumpkin jig and a Rage tail craw in Falcon lake color. Seems to me the you might be better using different colors vs matching colors. Great videos and tips !
Awesome video. I'm from Ontario and fish the bay of Quinte. Have always had a hard time with jig fishing. Guess it's time to leave everything else at home. Also, I appreciate the gear you recommend isn't super expensive.. Keep up the good work!
Gene great vid. As always. You should add a fish tank demo to all your vids explaining how to fish a bait so people can see it under water and how ut should look.
I’m a novice fisherman who hasn’t tried this setup yet. I’m dying to try them on my local small mouth Bass this spring up in Canada. That kid sent you more tackle than I’ve got in my whole boat! That’s crazy
All i did one day on a river, (the Yakima River) was just drag a black and blue jig with a blue craw on my MH rod (6'6") and I only caught 1 fish that day (and only got 1 bite too). But it was a decent 2.5lb-3lb smallmouth bass which made up for the slow day I was having. P.S.-- That river is rocky underneath the bridge I was fishing, but it's still quite muddy and a blue-ish to brown color.
Great video, I needed that inspiration because I lack confidence and impatience with a jig. I most will just concentrate only using a jig. Thanks from McDonough
Thank you for the knowledge it has helped tremendously. Some mush so that i won my tournament that week. 44 in with three fish limit highest for the year in are league. Thank you so much Flukemaster.
Great video, very informative! I have learned a lot from your videos that I have been able to go out and turn into results. Appreciate your time in making them!
A swimjig caught my PB bass. Never had any action on them last year, tried it once and never went back. Tried it again this year, no action but I kept trying, and it paid off. I've never gotten so many big bites in my entire life, and I pulled my PB out.
Thankx alot Fluke master I bought some Havoks And was fishing them Naked not realizing I had a football jig in my Tacklebox and they belonged togather .. Great heads up Man Thank u I subscribed and Cant wait for the next vid. Much respect from Boston fisherman.. -Murph-
I see you throwing the football jig then see a worm hook down the fishes throat and I start thinking you were pulling a fast one on us and really throwing a texas rig. But nah on second watch I realized that some fisherman other fisherman cut his line off and just left the hook there likely thinking the hook will rust away like many uninformed people believe. As always great vid! P.S. just had to comment to feed the youtube algorithm..
LOL. Thanks Blaine. I am always glad when I catch a fish with someone else's hook in it. That way I can take it out of the fish. I wish more people knew how to remove a hook from the gut of a fish. I've tried several times to film it but it's very hard to get on camera.
You're awsome man. You make it seem so easy, ive been fishing for a month now, small bluegils is all i catch since i have walmart equipment lol . I was brought here thru you're fishing for begginers vids awsome stuff 👍👍👍
I ran out of black blue craws to put on my black blue jig so i used a green pumpkin one and caught a big smallie on the next cast. I been a firm believer ever since
Wow...what an awesome gesture from that young man. Great vid...I dont fish FB Jigs to often at my home lake... Twin Lakes in Cumming GA...bottom is just all vegetation and 2' of muck! lol
love love your videos man. I have learned so much watching them. I ordered some jigs from Nutech and I should be getting them Friday. I'm going fishing to a pond close to where I live and I'm going to catch at least a 4lbs bass.
My favorite trailer for football jigs has to be a zoom super chunk. The claws don't have a lot of action on there own but they stand up in the water great when the jig is paused on the bottom, looking exactly like a defensive crayfish. If I'm swimming the jig, ultravibe speed craws are great, and so are rage craws. Never tried a beaver style bait as a trailer though, maybe I ought to try that out next time I go out. I threw around a football jig all day today, but the fish weren't biting it. It's hot, and the lakes I fish are pressured so it's almost always a drop shot or shaky head kinda deal. The only exception would be if the wind is blowing and a front is moving in, then it's a spinner bait kinda exclusively for me. White or White/Chartreuse or Bluegill patterns. I have A LOT of submerged milfoil vegetation so jig fishing is tough in my neck of the woods(New York), so I tend to resort to throwing something like a rodent or D bomb texas rigged down into the holes of the milfoil. The big bass are hiding in amongst those thick stalks of milfoil and it's almost impossible to spot them unless you spook em with the trolling motor, then you'll see them flash and dart deeper into the cover.
Awesome videos. your videos are super helpful as a new angler your videos have helped me taught so much specially the baitcaster one. Do you look at the lunar cycles is that even important. if its not would you mind making a video on it please.
Need the right rod then. Gotta be able to feel everything and it also helps to build your mental sonar by fishing the same areas. I jig fish probably 80% and learned that having a really nice sensitive jigging (and tough) was key. I lose jigs but not nearly as many as I did when using ugly sticks and lightning rods 😅.
@@bleach2856 If your water is full of trash and snags on the bottom, you'll lose them no matter what rod you are using. RF lives on Old Hickory lake. The name says it all about that lake.
Thanks for demonstrating respect for the fish and sharing how to remove a deep gut hook. You may have just saved 1,000's of fish lives right there.
Bruce Thompson agreed!
Yup, they are a precious resource. Well done!!
I had to remove my grandfather’s first bass fishing with me by cutting off the barb on one of my favorite cheapy jigs because the hook was set just in front of the poor lil guys eye in the hard bone or cartilage so I figured I’d rather lose my lure and let the future big guy be free worth it
I used this advice to fish with my first jigs today. I caught 6 and 3 got away from me. Awesome techniques great advice thank you.

I dragged a football jig with a craw trailer behind my kayak the other day while casting a spinner bait. My rod doubled over in the holder and I hauled in a very nice 4 pound Bass.
John's Fish Tales That's awesome! I've never thought to drag a jig while kayaking. Thanks!
John's Fish Tales that’s awesome!!
John's Fish Tales i wana go wit u

Thanks for taking the time to retrieve the hook in your bass. Responsible fishermen promote quality fishing by their actions. Great video as usual.
Im a beginner and was so overwhelmed with all the different types of bait but thanks to you and your videos i have a better understanding thank you
The 20 people who disliked this must not like to catch fish because without fluke your gonna get skunked, thanks gene the videos are awesome!
LOL Thanks Josh

Football jig with a craw trailer rocks! But I have been moving it to fast as you have shown in this video. You made sense about slow and steady man. Thanks and keep the great content coming
Thanks for your videos. You're a natural teacher and I'm happy I found your channel!
Thank you Eric. I’m glad I can help.
I like these. I'm seriously loving you remaking your old teaching videos an just generally teaching me all about fishing. You're awesome Gene
Ive been watching your videos for a long time. You are the best for demonstrating how when and were to become a better angler.
Thanks.

Seeing how you got that hook out of the bass was amazing! A very valuable tip. Thanks so much for showing us that!
I have this nice dock/moorage on the Columbia River that has skunked me more than I want to admit. THIS video just might do the trick. Thx Gene!
12:58 saving that fish made my day. reminds us why we fish. thanks Fluke

Followed your advice with the jig... put a soft plastic frog on the end, ran it along a bed of sand and BAM! Got a hit first cast. Thanks!
Wow! That's awesome
Great tips You got me hooked. Take sunglasses off . Eye to eye always works Thanks
Always wanted to learn how to fish with jigs. Just picked up a rod and reel that would handle the job just never fished with them . Thanks for your video i feel i learned enough to give it a shot.

Noticed your using a Number 8 rod, just got my Number 8 Tackle rod today, decided to pull the trigger on one thanks to you Gene! Can't wait to try it out, thanks!
I got one about a month ago, No. 8 blackout rod 7'3" and i absolutely love it, hope you like yours!
Kaleb Canada Thanks man, I got the same one as long as yours is the MH. I'm looking forward to trying it out!
Thank you very much for what you do! I went out on Lake Acworth here in Ga and slayed them with a black jig head with a green pumpkin trailer, plus a dip in JJ's Magic clear. Someone else turned me onto JJ'S a while back and that stuff is awesome!
Great video. Always a great channel to actually learn from and not just entertainment.
Gene, I am not a lover of commercials but I watch them all so you can get paid. Thanks for the great vids!!!!
Thanks Jay
my go-to "ol' faithful" as we call it, is a black and blue mini flip with a green pumpkin why not from gambler. love it
It's amazing how the world goes so fast but yet you can use techniques year after year. Old but good.
So true!
I absolutely agree with Gene on fishing a black and blue jig with a green pumpkin trailer. I also fish worms and prefer a green pumpkin worm with blue mixed into it.
all your videos are great! I have been fishing for years but still learn new stuff almost every video! keep it up
I caught a 6.5 pounder on a football head jig up close to that rocky slope that's in the background of this video. You should try there if you haven't already. Tight lines buddy!
Nice seeing you save the bass by removing the hook. I do same method. Great video.
My personal best to date came on a jig. Green pumpkin jig and a Rage tail craw in Falcon lake color. Seems to me the you might be better using different colors vs matching colors. Great videos and tips !
very informative, thanks so much. I subscribed because of how in depth you get with your teaching and lessons, keep up the good work!
Awesome video. I'm from Ontario and fish the bay of Quinte. Have always had a hard time with jig fishing. Guess it's time to leave everything else at home. Also, I appreciate the gear you recommend isn't super expensive.. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the video....game me more confidence in the Jig don't normally fish it but will take your advice about just bringing jigs along....thanks

K. Anthony put the time in on a jig and you will be happy
Late by a couple mins but thanks for the advice work overnights but hitting the pond when I get off today super excited to try this at the pond today!
Started fishing a football head jig with a Yamamoto skirted grub probably 10ish years ago; That quickly became my confidence bait for bass.
How awesome that you saw that hook and was able to remove it....another nice job...
Thanks Duke. I just wish I could have shown the removal better. So much going on while I do it that I really need a camera man to show the technique.
Great football jig tutorial. The fish is very lucky that you caught it. Now the fish live another day for some angler get a chance catch it.
Live another day so an angler can catch it and kill it. Good logic there slapstick.
@@toscodav Go away.
Thank you for the knowledge it has helped tremendously. Some mush so that i won my tournament that week. 44 in with three fish limit highest for the year in are league. Thank you so much Flukemaster.
That’s awesome Shane. Congratulations 🎉
You made his day.... Go Joshua
Great video, very informative! I have learned a lot from your videos that I have been able to go out and turn into results. Appreciate your time in making them!
Thanks for getting the camera angle tight on the lure. Love your videos.
A swimjig caught my PB bass.
Never had any action on them last year, tried it once and never went back. Tried it again this year, no action but I kept trying, and it paid off. I've never gotten so many big bites in my entire life, and I pulled my PB out.

You explain it so well. Best video for learning to jig. Thanks!!!
👍👍👍👍👍 could watch these vids all day everyday
I see you throwing the football jig then see a worm hook down the fishes throat and I start thinking you were pulling a fast one on us and really throwing a texas rig. But nah on second watch I realized that some fisherman other fisherman cut his line off and just left the hook there likely thinking the hook will rust away like many uninformed people believe. Tks,, for all the video on jigs. It such has help me with my fishn.
From Nashville Tn.
Flukemaster you definitely got a sub out of me brother. I've learned more about jigs in this video than most others. Thanks again bud. GO DAWGS!
Great Video Gene. I'm tired of seeing people eat and run errands.... Thank you. I'll give this a try tomorrow. I have just the place to try it.
Awesome, Thanks
You're awsome man. You make it seem so easy, ive been fishing for a month now, small bluegils is all i catch since i have walmart equipment lol . I was brought here thru you're fishing for begginers vids awsome stuff 👍👍👍
Thanks for the video. Very educational and answered every question I have had regarding this jig. Great stuff!!
Thank you gene, you said it. I fish mine too fast. I haven't had luck with a jig but I will!
You saved a fish and earned a sub
thanks for the info. cant wait till spring and try it. I dont fish when its cold out.
I ran out of black blue craws to put on my black blue jig so i used a green pumpkin one and caught a big smallie on the next cast. I been a firm believer ever since
Gene... you da man! Most informative TH-cam'r out there.
Wow...what an awesome gesture from that young man. Great vid...I dont fish FB Jigs to often at my home lake... Twin Lakes in Cumming GA...bottom is just all vegetation and 2' of muck! lol
Wherever there is a steep drop or a point you will find hard bottom.
The jig is my favorite lure. Nice video man
love love your videos man. I have learned so much watching them. I ordered some jigs from Nutech and I should be getting them Friday. I'm going fishing to a pond close to where I live and I'm going to catch at least a 4lbs bass.

the Netbait paca craw and paca chunk series are amazing amazing jig trailers. lots of action compact bait....try em out guys!

Hey do you have a video on all the different types of jig heads and what they are all best for?? Examples, like the ball heads, arkies, aliens, etc
I think he does, you'll just have to go back deep in archives to find it
Thanks for the tips Gene! I think my issue has been working them too fast. I'll have a little more confidence now!
Love your work brother! Can't wait to give these tips a dangle.
Right on!
Thank you for these videos. Your videos have seriously helped me improve my skills. Keep making these videos because I still have a long way to go!
+Day5 Aquatics you're welcome

Wow. didn't even realize that I wasn't subscribed. Learn a lot from all of your videos. Thanks man
LOL. Thanks for clicking that button man.
I think I would have more confidence in a jig if I didn't snag and lose every one I've owned.
Think we all feel the same lol
Need the right rod then. Gotta be able to feel everything and it also helps to build your mental sonar by fishing the same areas. I jig fish probably 80% and learned that having a really nice sensitive jigging (and tough) was key. I lose jigs but not nearly as many as I did when using ugly sticks and lightning rods 😅.
Fly fishing rods and spinner reels make for the most sensitive of set ups
Brand new pb&j football head jig lost yesterday first cast 🤦🏼♂️
@@bleach2856 If your water is full of trash and snags on the bottom, you'll lose them no matter what rod you are using. RF lives on Old Hickory lake. The name says it all about that lake.
