No wonder i felt so unsafe using mines... the emergency room doctor only ask how tall i was. And clicked the crutch to my height. He didn't tell me to stand to measure... wow. Thanks so much ! Great info; this helped a ton

Same. Ankle op, no one with me, just came out of drugged stupour and the night nurse asked my height. Then sent me home.
I'm scared shitless. Bad balance, no upper body, arm or grip strength; have to get down 2 steps to get to the car in 10 days for a check-up and no idea how to do that 😭

update: Hubby all but lifted me down, walking backwards in front of me.
Coming back, no WAY to get up steps with crutches. He put a drop-sheet on the steps & I butt-walked up to the deck where my one good leg & his strength got me back up.
Mega stressful day, adrenal system depleted, endochrine system drained, nerves shot!

As with everyone else, no instructions are given to use crutches. Most people are not informed. This video should be given with every set. Balancing is my biggest problem. Elderly people should be considered for this and given a different devise to recover with. Thank you for this information.

I can't believe it. After 10 weeks post foot surgery I just learned I have been using my crutch the wrong side. Even my doctor did not say anything when he has seen me since surgery. Some doctors just don't really care. THANK YOU!

When in doubt, talk to your physical therapist! My first "orthopedic surgeon" tried to refuse referring me to a P.T. clinic, for chronic decades-old back pain. BAD choice. HIS story..."Well, if all you want is to get rid of the pain,"...duuuh? ... So I FIRED HIM! No regrets! Doctors do NOT know everything. Buy him a nice new scalpel in a presentation case, for his birthday! OR, a nice new BMW for Christmas! Seems that I only needed competent deep-massage techniques. Bonnie Pruden wrote-the-book on this therapy. I learned (per Bonnie Pruden's family-training suggestions), how to do this to myself! Today I have read "Trigger Point Therapy" by Davies and Davies. READ IT!

Excellent video. I was given crutches for a fractured ankle and not given much in the way of instruction. The crutches were too high and the handles too low. It was only after watching this that I realized the handles needed to be adjusted and I was leaning forward on the crutches when I should be standing straight up. After making those adjustments I was amazed at how much of a difference it made. I’m still not sure about the stairs as they scare the hell out of me.

You have no idea how much I appreciate you doing this easy to follow video. The doctor's office just wrote the prescription, didn't give these necessary instructions and very useful tips. No wonder why I kept hurting myself! I was doing it all wrong. Thanks for the sitting info. I didn't know that with NWB that I had to sit with my foot off the floor. Great tip on using the crutch like an ottoman. You rock!👍🌺😊

Just had knee surgery and they didn’t send me home with crutches or anything so now we’re having to find our own. I’ve never used them so I’m clueless in every single way possible. Thanks so much for this - and for making it so that we can clearly see which leg was injured in the video. Other vids I watched, they told which leg, but it didn’t translate well when watching them do the tasks. ❤

Videos like this perform a valuable service. Patients should *definitely* be given careful instructions with their crutches. But I wish people knew how to spell s-p-r-a-i-n-e-d.

    • @nancyholm2995
      @nancyholm2995 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You know what? Spelling is so far down the list of priorities with those of us with serious injuries especially considering that we may be on pain meds or spellcheck may misinterpret a word.

Glad I watched this. About 15 years ago I needed crutches and was using the tops of the crutches for support. Needless to say my armpits were sore as hell in a few days. I might need them tomorrow because I think I sprained my knee so this really helped.
I will be sure to avoid stairs if I can.
I’m so scared of falling I’d fall. I’d rather sit on my butt and go down step by step. 😂

I told them at the hospital I didn't feel safe on crutches and I was given a frame ( no wheels) you lift and put down then hop forward. It is very tiring but I feel much more secure. Thank goodness I'm getting a knee scooter but once I'm partially weight bearing, I'll have to deal with crutches. Really appreciate this video.

I like how she used the crutch to prop up her leg at 3:12. Also I want to remind everyone to check your crutches to make sure the bolt and screws are tight. I could have fallen yesterday on my crutches because the bolt and screw had come out and made my crutch collaspable. At first I couldn't find where it had fallen out but a client of mine found it and the screw on the floor for me. So please check them every day if you have wooden crutches like I do. It looks like to me those metal crutches wouldn't come apart like that. Maybe I should get those instead.

When I asked how I could get upstairs the reply was to go up and down on my bottom, fine but when I reached the top I was unable to get up. The whole experience was a total nightmare. Wish I had known about this training video then.

Iv just finished 3wks non bearing, I'm lucky to have a scooter in the house Iv left the house x2 we got a ramp from the dissability shop as we have stairs iv built up strength in my upper arms to carry me as I'm a big lady, I'm not looking forward to the stairs but am happy to give up the scooter next week..

I felt really unsafe using crutches i got them yesterday and I’m back in school on Monday so I only have 1 day to learn how to use them properly…

So I have what seems to be a decent sprain on my ankle from parkour😅. I’m terrible with cruches, I get tired pretty fast because I’ve never hurt my foot before and never had to use crutches before. I can’t really walk well with em, but i really don’t think it’s worth asking for a WChair because I don’t think it’s really that bad even if I’m not allowed to walk on it. Any advice?

Tip: another way to use crutches. Simply put your hood leg up on stair case then take your crutches with you this way is way more faster if you want to get to you classes on time (if your a student)

I love how they say the good leg, I'm a righty so my right Achilles tendon rupture. I'm in a cast so how do I go up the stairs with my left leg if I'm not used to it?

[]𝒶𝒸𝒶𝒹ℯ𝓂𝒾𝒶[] except you aren’t supposed to rest the crutch in you’re armpit at all.

Thanks for the safety tips, I kept falling trying to walk but then I saw this video and turns out I wasn’t suppose to be leaning against the crouches.

I broke both the bones in my right leg I have a cast that goes from my foot to my (if you will) butt. It weighs Aton. What am I supposed to do if I can’t lift my leg on my own. Wheelchair?
