Using (and fitting) your crutches correctly can go a long way to expediting how quickly you can get off them, and how far along your rehab journey you are. Hope this helps!!
Hi Good afternoon, thank you, I went from a moon boot or air boot to just having an ankle strap, however even though it was a small fracture, I was wearing ankle boots, and not only did I twist my ankle it actually got caught onto the inside leg of my left trouser leg, and so I am still suffering now 4 months after the fall, I was using 2 crutches with the boot and the ankle strap then I went to none, but I am really struggling with pain and swelling, my Dr is sending me for 2 x-rays which I am not happy about, as This will mean I have had 4 xrays in just 4 months, possibly the most I have had in more than 40 years. Even knowing xrays do not show tissue or ligament or tendon damage, I am so happy to see you using the 2 crutches the way I used them, but now am wondering about driving, and using 1crutch or just wait to drive, am fed up of having to ask for help from friends to take me shopping etc. also I do not possess a pair of shoes, I have sandals or ankle boots, so help please? No rehabilitation yet, still just doing exercises given on a piece of paper, by the hospital or on their webpage . Using creams with capsicum in, coconut oil, as this is also anti inflammatory, naturally, I do not take pharmaceutical medications even when I actually fell and fractured my ankle, not one Big Pharma med. Help please, no driving means no work, no work means not enough income to pay rent, and food...Thankfully I have friends and family who have been donating enough to help me with food costs, But 4 months now is too long to keep asking for help. Thank you so much. Any advice, from anyone, oh and I did damage ligaments etc in the same ankle 20 years ago. No break or fracture back then.
Brilliant video! I'm 8 weeks into having a cast after orif surgery on my right ankle. My fibreglass cast comes off this week and my anxiety is high with worry and also excitement of the next stage of my recovery.
@@YourWellnessNerd my cast came off yesterday, today I've been watching videos on partial weight bearing with crutches. It's such a confidence boost to be able to walk in some sort of fashion. The ankle has limited range of movement, but these are early days. Physio booked for next week 😊
Great video! Very helpful info, especially covering why we use crutches and when to consider moving towards removing them based on how the user feels. One thing I wish you covered is how to do stairs with a handrail. Thanks
I am 63 and just learned about using the crutch on the opposite side from you today! Also, how to do stairs properly. Thanks from me and my broken right foot.
Had my left leg above knee amputated nearly 2 years ago. I have under the arm crutches I never use, however I have a prosthetic leg now. I need to use a walker when I go out and about with my prosthesis. I really want to get away from that walker, but for this 66 year old guy, it's been a slow process. I'm wondering if I get forearm crutches, I could use them to maybe make some progress towards independence from the walker? What say you?
Hey Michael! Elbow crutches are usually considered a little less stable than under arm crutches and even more so than a walker. You may need to ask someone in-person for the most appropriate advice! Clinically it’s good to challenge one’s capacity in a safe and predictable environment. If that means intermittent work with elbow crutches for you to build up that balance strength and conditioning then it may be helpful - but again I can’t really give specific help over the internet.
I use a cane or walker, weakness and balance issues, that vary depending on the day. I feel like neither is ideal, granted the tall height if rollator seat helps prevent swelling in hip when I sit, but for walking, I just want to walk, but have issues, it doesnt help that im super obese, and my back is trashed. I been thinking about trying these to help get my strength and range back and improve my gait.
I hope you can find some of that progress you’ve been looking for Nikki, the body will always respond to what we ask it to do - it can sometimes just be slow and frustrating. Good luck!
So i have eds and my leg gives way meaning im needing a form of support for when this happens. But my opposite arm is worse, wrist, elbow and shoulder so it hurts way too much to use my opposite side to my leg.
Hello, I am young human after patella surgery and i can't put any weight on my knee, but also my knee is in straight position ): I am very scared to walk with my elbow crutches and I also don't know how. Please if you have any tips help me (:
My injured ankle is the right ankle. So I try to use the left crutch. should I use an elbow crutch if elbow cannot be fully extended? Would it influence my balance?
If using a single crutch, it’s best to have it on the opposite side. It’s hard to answer your question without assessing you mate unfortunately. It depends on what feels the most comfortable and safe for you to use.
With all due respect to them, from a mechanical perspective it’s best for it to be on the opposite side. More importantly, it should also feel better and more comfortable to do it this way as well!
My physiotherapist(s) never told me I could use a single crutch on the opposite side of my injured leg. I'm annoyed because I've been walking like a penguin and suffering so much pain for 5 whole weeks 😤 Last night the pain became so unbearable I started using the walking frame again, but I noticed that if I held the frame with just one hand, on the opposite side of my bad leg, I felt hardly any pain. So I decided to use one crutch on the opposite side. But I also decided to Google to make sure this is ok, and I found this video 🥳 I should also add, they gave me a crutch that has a mould hand grip (right hand only) 😱 thankfully my lovely neighbour had a spare crutch that can be used with either hand 🤗 UK NHS you should be ashamed of yourself! 😡 Can't wait to see my physiotherapist next week, to give them a piece of my mind 😝
It would be so easy to tie a ribbon on the injured foot or wear a boot on the injured foot. Right now the viewer has to guess which foot is the injured foot. Is it always left? has he changed?

Very useful video sir. I have just started using crutches following a knee injury. Well timed. Many thanks
Hope it helps and good luck with your recovery!❤️🩹

Generally the handrail just takes the place of a crutch! Or it’s best to just bypass the rail and safely use the crutches instead!
what a detailed and helpful video!! Thank you!
Glad it resonated Alessa!

Am sorry about your amputation.❤️
Thanks sir your video tells me i was using crutch on wrong side ❤

Me too! Physiotherapist never told me this, and I've seen 3 over the last 5 weeks 😤
Thankyou very helpful.

Id love to use two crutches but I have a young child so I need a free hand.
Brilliant video

The arm hole of my crutch doesn’t fit my arm fully, is there a way to adjust it or do I get new ones?
It probably depends on the crutch mate, but the ones I see aren’t adjustable in that way

They hurt my hands and arms so bad. Are they supposed to?
Ideally no! You can add extra padding if need be!

My dr and rehab David i shoukd walk with a stick in The same hand as The side od injury leg...

Very helpful but would of liked to see how to walk with a moon boot on
Hi Sarah! Glad it was helpful. The technique doesn’t change with a boot on!

It’s always the same Willie!
