The power steering on my Lexus GS400 used to make that sound during cold starts in the winter but only for a few seconds!
Perfect vehicle for snow adventures! Another good video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! 🙌
Hi, awesome to see someone who is as enthusiastic about rav4 gen1 as I am. Just went winter offroading in Estonia yesterday with lifted Jeep Grand Cherokee WK and Isuzu pickup. Everywhere these two went the little Rav4 went also - Water crossing covered in 10cm thick ice and water reaching the edges of doors, hills, mud and sand. Nothing stopped it!
Thank you! That’s really awesome 💪
Enjoying these videos all the way from Australia 😎🇦🇺.
Awesome! Thank you for the support.
Sick vid. Ive been enjoying these. Really makes me want to pick up a rav of that gen.
My 2012 Dodge Journey sounded the same in -20C weather here in Manitoba. It's probably the power steering pump, and it's okay
You are an old soul like myself. Cheers!
Would you do a video on the interior, any storage if rear seats fold down and just a good in depth overview! Struggling to find one and would love to see all the storage and things it comes with
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll aim to incorporate this
weird noise on startup is definitely the power steering pump, mine makes same noise, if its only on cold days and only for few minutes at startup then you have plenty of years left in it before it fails but the process of failing has begun
I think you should install a small suspension lift. That would look cool and help with ground clearance. Add a top rack? Use whatever funds from your videos to pay for it. It does look nice as it stands though. Keep those videos coming.
Great suggestions, I’ve been keeping an eye out for roof racks. Thanks for watching!
good simple snow fun :) glad to see you knock the snow off your shoes before getting in :D
You bet! Thanks for watching 😄
Hi Owen, love the look of your old Ford truck. Greetings from a snowy UK this morning, think we've actually got more snow than you have. Venturing out soon in my LC 150 👍
Thank you for watching. Enjoy your adventure!
Was following a first Gen in my second gen yesterday here in Michigan. The salt hasn't claimed them all yet.
Awesome man!
Nice. Enjoy.
Many thanks
The noise is likely the power steering fluid /system not liking the cold , common issue when really cold.
Could also be the blower motor
Great video once again! Thanks for sharing :)
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙌
As others have said, that is power steering noise more than likely. Might be low on fluid, reasons why in the cold itll whine as it warms up. My 87 4runner does that, i just throw in fluid every now and then
Thank you. This seems to be the case!
i love your videos lol but i wish i never sold my 2012 subaru outback i miss it compared to my current car a 2020 subaru forester!
Appreciate that! I remember Subarus are a lot of fun in snow. 😎
@ ik 😂😂I did a donut in my forester the other day and it was fun
How do you like the manual in winter conditions?
I really like the extra control and variability
Good car 👍
😎👊
What tires would you recommend on a budget? I need to get some snow tires for my 98 RAV4 too.
The tires I have most experience with are the Falken Wildpeak A/T. But, I haven’t used a particular snow tire enough to recommend yet
Falken F Ice Snow tires 😊
Love that old model. We don’t get them Ireland. Is that Alberta ?
This is Alberta! Cheers
New subscriber here , Great Rav4 content . I'm In Edmonton , Is that your location ?
Thanks for the support! I am a fellow southern Albertan. 🙌
The noise sounds a bit like a bad idler pulley bearing (if it has an idler on the accessory belt?), or could possibly be one of the bearings in the alternator or AC compressor clutch. Is that a 3SFE? My '90 Camry had a noise on the power steering belt when it was cold, now there's a car I will forever regret letting go.
Thank you for the input! It is the 3SFE. I have replaced the power steering belt and alternator recently. A closer inspection should get me on the right track. Cheers!
Blower motor probably making the noise
@Sakkeboy272 That does seem likely. It's been 10 years since I've worked on a 3SFE and I forgot they didn't have any idlers on the accessory belt... Should be easy to tell if it's the blower, if the noise changes with blower speed or goes away when it's turned off.
@@drewzero1 Thats true! The noise seemed to come from somewhere inside judging from the noise but yeah i bet he has tried it already
Are you in the Calgary area?
Fantastic videos, i have one green 3 door, i live in Portugal i had a problem when i bought mine the idle rpm are high about 1300 when it is completely hot.I did a idle valve cleaning and they drop to 650-700.They start at 1400 on colder days then drops to 650.How much is yours when you start motor and when its hot?Keep the videos.
Thank you for the comment! Mine behaves similar to yours. I’ll go through and clean the iacv too 😄
@Owen_Earl its perfect but its good to clean throttle body.
I have a clean 98 outback I got for 1000 bucks
Nicee 💪
Love the colour also would keep the rims and put some ko2 or the new ko3 look spot on but anyway cool rig show you done need big money for a good off roader 👍
Thank you! I agree, as soon as I need new tires I’ll pull the trigger on some light A/T tires.
