I just started SSF this league, and the biggest "why" I've discovered is that SSF changes the kinds of goals you set for yourself. I've been playing on and off for years and always in trade. Most of my goals for playing builds and getting gear has usually boiled down to, "How do I farm enough currency to buy the items I need for my next build." It very much devalued the very interesting currency system PoE has, where Chaos and Exalts were literally just a trade currency. Now my goals are, "I need to find/craft this sick set of boots all by myself," and this involves actually investing and interacting with the different systems in PoE that make it so complex and so rewarding. It's changed how I see my currencies and the end game systems from simple "Ways to make money."
I was just thinking this today, every currency has an individual purpose, but in trade league they're just money, you don't actually use them for their intended use. And it's also a lot more immersive and rewarding to work for everything and build yourself up instead of just buying everything you need, there's such a disconnect that way for me.
I hope to reach that exact mindset this league. Also been playing on and off for years - but all in trade. This time started as a seismic trapper in Sentinel and struggle to find major upgrades while having 1ex and dozens of chaos in my stash. I wanted to challenge myself this time and see if I will give up and migrate to trade. So far I stayed strong :)
A year later, but I've just came back to Poe (had about 200 hours like 5 years ago but didn't accomplish much) now I have made 3 characters up to mapping to tier 10-15 maps (on 15s I get some problems) and I don't see any reason to play really. Haven't used any currency above chaos and even didn't use much alchemy orbs I really want to go and try SSF but my problem is that I don't know how to make a working build, and I don't really want to use already made build
small tip: the timestamps on the first video really helped me a lot when revisiting the videos to check out specific stuff, would be cool to have them in all PoE uni videos :) keep up the great work Zizaran!
My problem with ssf is the accessability of certain build enabling items. I don't have a problem with simply playing builds which don't require specific stuff but I'd love an option to target farm some stuff instead of hoping to get it from random Jack in the Box turn ins, it's really a flaw in poe's current state that (what feels like) half the uniques are simply so incredibly unrealistic to EVER obtain in an ssf envoirement. Just dulls the ssf aspect of the game a little in my opinion.

I played SSF since Beta (mostly hardcore until they raised the campaign-Boss difficulty) I was very happy when they implemented this as an official game mode. I never traded in POE, (have done this enought in die Diablo 3 Auctionhouse), and do not miss it. Finding stuff and crafting all yourself is the true hearth of this game. thx GGG
The simplest atlas strat: 1. Complete as many white maps as you can while you reach the corners. Proc a conqueror in each corner. 2. Inner regions. Do a full conqueror cycle in one inner region at a time. While you do a 1stone cycle in one region, have 2stones in another inner region. While doing 2stone, have a 3stone inner region. While doing 3stone have 4stone inner region. You will build map pool for the next cycle while you run the current cycle. 3. Outer regions. While running 4stone inner region, have one 4stone outer region. While doing 4stone outer region, you need one and only one other 4stone outer region. That's the fastest route to Awakener 8, but you don't need to rush AW8 if you don't want to. AW8 is only important if you need Sirus/Shaper/Elder/Cortex drops. You could instead rush red maps and then just get completion/stones as it comes. Do this if master missions and four conquerors are more valuable for your build and you don't want to put mental energy into atlas strats.
@@beasthaven1571 You have to do each corner once with no stones in order to spawn each conqueror. And that's good because it gets you more white map completion. However, it's a bigger jump in map tier doing the outer regions first. 0stone outer region is T3-5, but 1stone is T6-9. This makes building the map pool for your next region harder because you have to run T5, and only the T6 drops are helping your map pool. In contrast, 1stone Tirn's end is T4-7 so running literally any map in a 0stone outer region can progress your map pool in the next region. The slower progression in tiers also generally helps SSF builds not run into content thats too hard too early. Obviously trade builds can just spend 15c and buttfuck all content, but gearing takes more time in SSF.
I have never played this game in a trade league ... first because I dont like trading in general but also I find it changes the game so much. Everything in trade league is about how to farm the most currency to buy the gear you need and its the same for every build until you can afford it. In SSF if you need an item that drops from an uber boss you cannot just farm 10 hours tier one maps and buy it ....
btw this is nearly the exact same reason people play "Ironman or SSF" on other games like Runescape and honestly im not too sure what others do the same concept i believe PoE and Runescape to come to mind is the only games to even somewhat focus on that aspect of the game, playing the game for some people instead of purely trading is very rewarding and enjoyable.
One very important factor of why SSF is great in my opinion was missed here: All sorts of content you didnt find fun or kinda semi-fun in tradeleague suddenly gets a new appeal. Every temple you have multiple chances at dropping certain build defining uniques, maybe get a vial of transcendence or whatever, delving feels rewarding even at 200-300, where in trade league the delve guys are already at 800-900 and its not even worth to delve for profit for the casual player. All of these league mechanics might or will get appealing/fun in SSF. And the best side effect of using all these mechanics: You get to/are forced to learn soo much about the game. Suddenly I know what a lot of the prophecies do, I know betrayal rewards by heart or find out that a certain item drops from the X T3 Room from Alva. When you start out in SSF you might feel a bit like you felt when you started playing PoE... I cannot recommend trying it out enough.
@ziz thanks so much for these videos i just started playing SSFHC and im loving it! It's a completely different feeling playing on SSFHC please keep up these videos im kinda new to POE and im learning a ton thanks again man.
I've got about 6 or 700 hours in this game and I still haven't traded. What they didn't realize when not wanting to split the player base was that us true ssf players have always played that way lol.
I always enjoy being able to be self sufficient: find my own stuff, make my own stuff, not having to wait around for other people to get around to being respectful, etc.. GGG does everything in it's power to take that away from players.
I first started diving into the world of POE crafting in Harvest. So as much as people think it was game-breaking, it was a pretty good intro for people who have never crafted before.
I am trying similar mindset, "copying builds that are viable in trade" and making them work in SSF. I focus on skills I personally enjoy/find fun to play, look how people build around them, check heatmap (as it has necessary piece in talent tree tailored for this gear) then after allocating these key nodes/notables, I use rest points to improve on whatever I am struggling with at current point in the game and go further from there. Then I can set certain goals and work towards them. PoE mechanics has things that will make goal chasing possible. Doesn't matter what it is. You need certain unique? Increase rarity of items in atlas, take 100% improved rarity from bosses, use rarity gem/flask/gear, use whatever mechanic you want to interract with (Heist with unique reveals, Expedition with unique nodes and Astragali Gwennen gamble, Betrayal with reliquary scarabs etc) and go for it. Need cluster jewel? Focus on Delirium content (also possible through additional league mechanics). Use your currency, use harvest crafting. You have means to do so. Yes, it can be hard to get EXACTLY same setup as people in Trade SC but you don't need exactly same setup or all these things to do end game content.
For Alva, you only need to run one map at the highest tier for your temple to be the highest level. The rest can be done at any level. (ie. run one at T5 (lvl72) and then the rest on T1 will still give a level 72 temple). This isn't limited to white/yellow/red, so should actually just be your highest tier map. When I get my first Alva at yellow maps, I use one on the highest tier I have, and then continue running T1-4 Alvas (T5 is for Niko). Same with reaching red maps.
It's great fun. My favorite way to play the game. Just plan it out more than you normally would, and make sure to pick a build to league start with that will run on pretty much nothing. One of my favorite parts of playing ssf is seeing what drops, and using that to put together a fun build that I might not have played normally. Learning how to scale different offensive and defensive aspects has taught me a lot about the game too. I think that everybody should try it for a bit if they're a long term or serious PoE player.
I played SSF (SC) for the first time in Harvest, and with my own build, and had my most fun ever with PoE after playing 2 years. I did a private league (Conflux) for Heist; it was a good middle-ground, but I'm looking forward to playing SSF again (if it feels viable after we get more info).
thank u both! this will help a lot for new ssf players, very well done! even as a veteran i learned something :D boy do i loved harvest ... totally agree on res swap
i have had more fun in the last 600Hour ish in SSF than 3000 hours in trade league.... The feeling when anything drops can be good, and the slower pace and not having to rush red maps league start, and constant worry about being behind on trades and currency generation is sooo nice. Also you dont need to spam 50 people who dont reply for an item..... you also learn alot more of the game mechanics because you need to think to get your items and not just grind chaos to buy from others.
Me and friend have been playing group found for a couple leagues now, its really enjoyable and a tottaly different experience from regular trade of ssf
Thanks! Long time playing and had a hard time understanding the game but thanks to this kind of videos and the amazing Way you guys explain all! Keep doing it, This league ill try my best and your videos open a new hole game to me. Use to be Mindless right click
I've only ever played from time to time over the years in POE so I guess I have always been solo self found but not on purpose nor did I realize that was a thing until recently, now I want to try it but I'm just coming back to learn the game again.
Could you add an episode for console players? Not sure who would be an expert on that, but there are some major differences that are important to understand since the majority of information out there is from the PC perspective.
Today i started my first ssf exile and when i drop tabula it was so better than trade. I never go back to trade league. We need to learn so much more thats so interesting and everything has a better taste when it drop
Honestly, I play trade league as if it's SSF because I don't really trade with people like that lol. But honestly on console, the prices for everything sucks and I usually just run with some form of league starter until I get a drop or get bored. I feel like SSF is mainly for streamers to keep playing the game. The average player should probably just play normally. If you want to buy, then buy. If you don't, then don't. I end up making multiple characters a league so I enjoy getting a unique and being able to buy another item to make it run well
so... i duno if iy's been mentioned but i am 10 minutes in and i stull am not exactly sure what SSF means. i can kind of gather what it means, but i am not sure why it would be separate from normal league, just dont buy anything? unless i am still confused what it is, kinda weird you dont explain it at all.
I play SSF too and it's more fun than trade league. But I also have been 40/40 for several leagues, I would be uncomfortable if I can't make it, just hope someday I could let it go :(
I've never technically played SSF but have always played as-if SSF. I guess I list things for sale in a tab, but I've never sold a thing. I just keep chugging along.
Would it be wise to do this as a newer player to learn a bit faster? I posted last in legion but coming back for this league. Got to mapping but kinda was lost what to do after lol. Thanks
8:14 i disagree with that one, As you just play the game normally as well, In SSF you actually can become stuck if you want to make a certain build and need to defeat something that you can't. But in normal or hardcore you can buy what you need so your not stuck. So that part of the argument i reject because just playing the game is the key goal of any play-style lol. However i am surprised that it makes you learn the game was never mentioned, because in normal or hc you can realye on everyone else and really progress without not actually ever learning the game or mechanics on your own. However in SSF it forces you to adapt your play-style and to try new things, and of course more importantly learn the game, especially since your doing it yourself.
That's called a private league, and it's been available for quite some time. You also have the option to play in trade league and not trade with anyone else....
SSF! For when you play so much that you find non-ssf leagues too easy to complete everything and want it even more time consuming to complete challenges and end game content. While here i can never even come close to completing all challenges with boosts that comes from trading to better my build more quickly.
thanks for doing this video, it is appreciated. I know it not really the point but I don't get why trade can't just work as trade does in something like WoW. If you want to sell it take it off and list it at your min sell price or what makes you happy and if someone wants it they bid or buy it and it done, none of this silly meeting in a base, and doing a trade, that is like a game made in the '80s if they want to fix one thing my goodness fix trade. OK, you need a mail system, but goodness I'm sure they can handle that as well. They can obviously code :)
Can i farm an oni goroshi with my scion then after i get it put it in my stash and create a new character.. will the oni goroshi still be there? Thanks for helping will be doing ssf next league
my most problematic build at the moment is trying to make cold dot work... eather i do no dmg or i die alot due to missing secondary defences... at the moment iam sitting at 5 to 5.6 k hp depending on setup, but in both variants i lack pysical mitgiation.... doing around 600k dot dps with both skills active.. fighting bosses this way feels slow... ( running hatred zealotry malevolance, triplle curse on hit despair ele weaknes frostbite, almost 30% bonechill and arcane surge aand divergent berserk with around 40% quality)-> it is allready glass cannon , only way to go for even more dmg multiplier is low life... but even with the 30% extra dmg it is still not up to downing endgame encounters.. if ought around 6 min vs shaper on awakening lvl 7 he just went from add phase to ultimate chaos while i had around 10 sec to do dmg between... over time builds seem to be not that good to do bosses with time based abilty rotations.... so for now i give up on that, may be blight will do better dmg due to its ramp up dmg^^.
Yeah, many unique items that are build enabling allow SSF to have longevity. You put it in your stash or create a tab called "xyz build" and then make a new character to use those special items you farmed yourself.
All I play is SSF. I find it the only way to play I think any other way of playing to be cheating. It may take me 3x's as long to get to high tear maps but it makes me feel like Ive done all the work.
play ssf once, use currency on items/maps without "i need to keep these junky unique/alch/chaos/... so i can trade it later on" way of thinking all the league after that xD
More time playing the game, less trade simulator, seems great to me. I think you sold the mode to me, might start PoE2 on SSF straight up. Then again a week turning into "league long goals" might not be for me, I like to play multiple games at the same time so I can't dedicate myself to just PoE for months. Then again, I hate trading with a passion... tough call.
Wanna do some builds until you realize, everything has been min maxed before. Just really wanna call something my own without being insecure about it I feel like it's much better than being a mindless drone looking for exalts using a meta build from a guide.
Toxic Rain, Caustic Arrow are not bow builds, not true bow anyway. When I think of bow builds, I think of bow builds that scale off flat ele or phys conversion or pure phys, like Ice Shot, Rain of Arrows, Tornado Shot.
I liked this session a little less. It turned into a video about likes and dislikes for SSF, but while it is intended as a guide it should probably be closer to dos and don'ts. SSF is a fundamentally different approach to the game. The session establishes fairly well why you might play that way, but not what type of content you should be focusing on, how your timings and power spikes might differ. For which classes/ascendancies in specific SSF is pretty much a no no. Those sort of things.
Atlas progression: Zana appears in your first tier 3 map And the first conquerors spawn in the atlas corners. There for people tent to rush tier 3 or the corners. I personally do a lot of tier 1 maps before going tier 2. This is a very save way to not struggle early on. I feel like having a lot of low tier maps unlocked makes it easier later on.
This feels like when two kids are doing a project. Zizaran is the kid that does all of the slideshows, research and makes the script because I doesn’t want to have to talk. Then steelmage is the kid that shows up and presents so the other kid doesn’t have to but also so he still gets credit. (Not saying one person did more than the other just thought this was kinda funny and gave off this kinda vibe)
SsF: because other people are hell. If poe2 implements a system where I don't have to interact with people directly to trade then maybe I'll do trade league. Otherwise it's too annoying.
Makes me think about bragging to my older brothers friends that I had the same equipment as them in diablo 2 but in single player compared to battlenet back in the day and they didnt believe me, feels similar when you post sexy shit jm guild chat and they treat it completely different when they realize you're ssf. @@AdamL-18 Thanks, I've already started learning the crafting mechanics better from using my crafting bench more
Bestiary is actually really good source of uniques in ssf, especiallly at the start of the league.
@@awemowe2830 how are you getting it? just randomly kill the beasts and there is a craft for unique chest or something?
@@trentntb5437 yes
I got an early badge of the brotherhood lol
I thought it was rush the 4 outer corners first..then inner after
@@beasthaven1571 You have to do each corner once with no stones in order to spawn each conqueror.
Hey this was super fucking helpful thank you
watching ziz blink in confusion for several minutes thinking about messing up map tiers and ilvls is the best shit ever
"68 69 71 72 73"
I had decided to finally get into ssf next league so this video is invaluable for me!
thank you for this lecture professors.
One very important factor of why SSF is great in my opinion was missed here:
All sorts of content you didnt find fun or kinda semi-fun in tradeleague suddenly gets a new appeal.
Ziz: Your hideout is lava.
Me with Furious Hideout: MY HIDEOUT IS LAVA!
i watched this video by myself BTW
This is just how I play anyways, never knew there was a whole mode for it lmao
I first started diving into the world of POE crafting in Harvest.
So as much as people think it was game-breaking, it was a pretty good intro for people who have never crafted before.
This make me want to play Ssf standard
Shots fired at Raiz
Great video as usual!
Why title screen says "Stallmage" ? :)
cus he's stalling 24/7, look strim KEKW
Afaik its a meme relating to him playing it safe in these hardcore races, stalling, while other players go for risky content first.
I think there's a lot of players like myself who don't play on the official ssf league, but still play trade league without ever trading.
trading is cancer ssf here i come
I enjoy my ssf journey from last 2 leagues. Harvest is the best league to start ssf and Heist is more and more comfortable.
Watching two years later and hearing steel asking for harvest craft res swap is really funny
thank u both! this will help a lot for new ssf players, very well done! even as a veteran i learned something :D boy do i loved harvest ... totally agree on res swap
I love this series.. Please continue as much as possible.
Thank you for this video. I've been playing in PoE since alpha (10 years) and have never been trading.
watching this as starting my first ssf char. ty guys!
Speaking of chaos recipe, there is a tool for it that scans you stash and highlights a full chaos recipe in you stash.
i have had more fun in the last 600Hour ish in SSF than 3000 hours in trade league....
Anuhart did get a mirror in the end if I remember correctly. A great guy.
I just started a toxic rain pathfinder abs I needed help finding gear and making it! This is awrsome
Foothills is your friend :)

Ritual league is best league to start SSF. I made my first jab. It is fun and not so hard thanks to Ritual mechanic. 10/10
thanks a ton for providing great PoE content quys!
ProjectPT POG !!
what's the prophecy mentioned around ~35 mins?
Could you add an episode for console players? Not sure who would be an expert on that, but there are some major differences that are important to understand since the majority of information out there is from the PC perspective.
Was expecting few inventory managment hints for SSF :( Pre-rolling maps and keeping sextants close and ready, dump tabs etc :)
Today i started my first ssf exile and when i drop tabula it was so better than trade. I never go back to trade league.
We need to learn so much more thats so interesting and everything has a better taste when it drop
Thanks to Ziz & Steel so much for the content.... monkaSteer, Tyty... OmegaLUL
Awesome episode guys!
I end up making multiple characters a league so I enjoy getting a unique and being able to buy another item to make it run well
I switched To ssf after i saw how toxic trading was In poe. Maybe it was just bad experience but i enjoy playing alot More now
so... i duno if iy's been mentioned but i am 10 minutes in and i stull am not exactly sure what SSF means. i can kind of gather what it means, but i am not sure why it would be separate from normal league, just dont buy anything? unless i am still confused what it is, kinda weird you dont explain it at all.
If GGG makes SSF 40/40 challenges easier, I would never play trade league.
I play SSF too and it's more fun than trade league. But I also have been 40/40 for several leagues, I would be uncomfortable if I can't make it, just hope someday I could let it go :(
@@AGVenge To some the 40/40 is the challenge, not the MTX that it brings. Some of those 40/40 requirements are downright RIPPY
Where can i ffind the video of collecting all uniques?
However in SSF it forces you to adapt your play-style and to try new things, and of course more importantly learn the game, especially since your doing it yourself.
is the templar in POE based on Anuhan ?
They should do group ssf. I usually play with a couple of friends and we just give each other items whenever.
Then play tradeleague with your friends
That's called a private league, and it's been available for quite some time. You also have the option to play in trade league and not trade with anyone else....
SSF! For when you play so much that you find non-ssf leagues too easy to complete everything and want it even more time consuming to complete challenges and end game content. While here i can never even come close to completing all challenges with boosts that comes from trading to better my build more quickly.
Me and my buddy decided we would do a group “ssf” where it’s just us next league
thanks for doing this video, it is appreciated.
@Chris Brunner thanks man. i think it will help a lot as it is a farmable guaranteed 6 link.
my most problematic build at the moment is trying to make cold dot work... eather i do no dmg or i die alot due to missing secondary defences... at the moment iam sitting at 5 to 5.6 k hp depending on setup, but in both variants i lack pysical mitgiation.... doing around 600k dot dps with both skills active.. fighting bosses this way feels slow...
When they say "reroll" when you get a certain item for a build, do they mean starting a brand new character?
Yeah, many unique items that are build enabling allow SSF to have longevity. You put it in your stash or create a tab called "xyz build" and then make a new character to use those special items you farmed yourself.
@@Demonace34 awesome. Thanks for the info. Just started my poe journey this league. Trying to learn as much as I can. Happy Hunting.

All I play is SSF. I find it the only way to play I think any other way of playing to be cheating. It may take me 3x's as long to get to high tear maps but it makes me feel like Ive done all the work.
What does MonkaSteer mean?
play ssf once, use currency on items/maps without "i need to keep these junky unique/alch/chaos/... so i can trade it later on" way of thinking all the league after that xD
More time playing the game, less trade simulator, seems great to me. I think you sold the mode to me, might start PoE2 on SSF straight up.
Then again a week turning into "league long goals" might not be for me, I like to play multiple games at the same time so I can't dedicate myself to just PoE for months. Then again, I hate trading with a passion... tough call.
The inclusion of Peepo was a good choice for this course, professor.
Wanna do some builds until you realize, everything has been min maxed before.
Just really wanna call something my own without being insecure about it
I feel like it's much better than being a mindless drone looking for exalts using a meta build from a guide.
Exactly! As someone who has already decided to try SSF this upcoming league, this video has unfortunately been largely unhelpful for me.
At the state of the game. Who needs the trade chat anyway. You get all you need from any mechanic in the game.
Very good video made me think maybe ssf is actually better gameplay for me right now
Atlas progression:
Zana appears in your first tier 3 map
And the first conquerors spawn in the atlas corners.
SSF is challenging and all, but have you ever tried PoE on console?
godspeed, p.o.e.u.
What a slacker. Steelmage needs a jacket, some fake glasses, maybe even a tie.
I literally started to play SSFHC after this video. Still there, but now I'm bald, angry and my wife left me.
Nice efficiency picture LOL
Steel, invaluable doesn't mean what you think it means.

SsF: because other people are hell.
If poe2 implements a system where I don't have to interact with people directly to trade then maybe I'll do trade league. Otherwise it's too annoying.
Drop an exalt? I haven't seen a pure exalt drop all league yet. Probably got 40+ hours in.
I've been playing since before Vaal league... Today I learned you can reroll colors on corrupted items. ._.
