I really love that you see the opportunity to teach your kids how to do stuff is more important than just getting the job done. It reminds me of being a little kid on the farm and "helping" dad. I was mostly in the way slowing him down, but if he hadn't let me help, I wouldn't have the problem solving skills I have today.
I’ve been watching TH-cam for years, and this may be the most fascinating series I’ve ever seen. You’re building the dream house, and have the knowledge and experience to actually SHOW how it’s done. I may be biased because I’m an architect, but I feel anyone (architect or not) with a sense of curiosity would appreciate this show. Well done.
While we can all be a bit jealous of your fantastical new home , we also know that you are absolutely deserving of your hardworking successes .. Thank you Mike for all you do for your community ❤
Well, any reasonable person who sees the time, effort and energy he puts into literally everything he does can know he deserves it. I can personally say I don’t think he gets paid enough!
Don Beary, I get you. “Jealous” was not used in a negative way. Any normal person knows it was tongue in cheek. Any person with half a brain who has been following Mike’s videos knows that his attitudes, aptitudes, hard work and values makes him one of the most deserving people around. There are always going to be a few unfortunate souls out there who are sub-normal or who have less than half a brain who get perverse pleasure from trolling other people from the safety of their computer screens and attempt to make other people look small or feel small. I am also “a bit jealous” of Mike. What an inspiration he is!

Nice that have kids helping...they will learn that life is not easy...learn some technical skills...and most important - know their home in every detail! Should be proud! Regards from Serba!
You know some of the most valuable times I've had with my son has been working far too hard with him helping me build my business or on our home. The poor bugger just kept on keeping on, be it fitting 1000's of rivets, helping me lift stuff or just sweeping the floors! Tomorrow, he is moving countries to follow his dream, leaving us all behind but as an already successful young man. The valuable lessons I hope he learnt will see him become far more successful than myself. We will miss him dearly, but hey, we will now have , has helped him to get where he is today. We wish him well & thankyou for making me feel a bit better than just a slave driving parent but one who hopefully has instilled great ethics into their kids like yourself! Cheers from Oz !
Amazing work! Hard not to respect a man that has clearly worked his way to where he is today. No bs. No excuses. No amount of money is gonna stop his from getting his hands dirty. An inspiration.
Wow, such an incredible build, quality engineering has gone into this, attention to detail as well. Amazing how you can also build aircraft and your own home, I'm a pilot in the RAF here in the UK, I fly the typhoon on QRA, been in the RAF for 25 years, joined when I was 16. me and my wife are planning on building a home once we secure a bit of land, just waiting for planning approval. It's great that your kids are helping, it's teaching them what you do. Such a proud father moment, should always cherish those moments. Can't wait to see the final product 😊 #youknowthedrill #backtowork
Mike, you are true American Hero. Proving that hard work and tenacity pays major dividends. Teaching your children these same values, and so much more, is an integral part of what as you say, "moves the world forward". Much respect sir, and gratitude for sharing your stories.
The flatwork is amazing. Those guys are bomber. And good for you, showing your kids that just because you're rich, doesn't mean you can't get your hands dirty. It's good for the soul and it keeps you in touch with people that do that great work every single day. Also, steel beams on wood posts always makes my head ache. LOL The project is looking amazing.
Realized when I instantly recognized the dog-door and play yard area, your future abode is becoming as familiar to me as my own home. Kudos to your clear and thorough presentations.
Fort Patey, a beautiful fortress. I hope it’s going to be full of all kinds of home automation, it’s super fun to make things predict what you need and see it happen.
WOW!! What an amazing project and experience. I really love your family values, working with and teaching your children. We need more people like you. I watch what you are doing and it takes my mind off the woes of our world. Thank you Mike!
I love engineering too and just like you I build whatever comes to my mind. Hopefully by the time I am your age I will have just as much money and energy for amazing projects as this!
Once again, Mike. You have a made my day. Just when I think you couldn’t be anymore awesome, you go ahead and prove me wrong. You are beyond inspiring.
Mike, I so look forward to the new videos, and am so grateful when one drops between all the work. And, I gotta tell ya, it encourages me to no end to see an entire family working on a project together. I'm proud of you guys, and thankful for you taking the time to include us in your build/s. Can't even speak to your impact on aviation, only time will tell. All the best wishes and hopes that "First Flight" blows up beyond your wildest dreams. Keep it coming, Mr, such great stuff!
Concrete work is incredibly back breaking but is equally satisfying when it's done. There's something about a well-finished slab that just makes you feel good. Looking good Mike.
Mike Patey for President! I loved the plane building videos that was how I found your channel long ago. After the house do you think you’ll be making more? I’ll check back in a year and see if you’re building planes again.
Mike, your kids are so lucky to have you as their daddy. Many kids don’t have the same level of access to this type of experience at all. So many people my age and younger have been denied awesome learning experiences.
What an astonishing project Mike! What a pleasure it must be, to be able to accomplish all these dreams of yours, you truly deserve it. Thanks for taking me along on the ride! 🙏
I am SO GLAD that you are putting this INCREDIBLE project on your channel, because THIS IS every bit as interesting as your aroplane builds ! Infact, I'm beginning to think that YOU could make videos of...?....taking the garbage out! ....and it would STILL BE AMAZING ! ! ! ! Enjoying this home build. While I was in college I did security alarm on high end custom homes, saw so many cool ideas, but never a pool like this one!
Mike, I completed my practicals & received my A&P certification TODAY!! Keeping the ball moving towards an engineering degree starting soon, largely because of your inspiration. Can’t wait to see what Scrappy has been up to.. Following the pool too. Back to work!
Mikey you've got a great tan, you can tell you've been kicking this project's behind out in the sunshine. It must be a great motivator to your contractor crew to see you fully involved.
Really enjoy the videos. Cannot wait to see the finished product. This reminds me of when I was a child and I used to get sent to my grandfathers for the summer. He had his own concrete construction business. I used to help him pour a lot of jobs and it was fun. Thanks for triggering. Very precious memories. Keep up the good work.
Dang Mike, everything you do is just top notch! I love your attention to detail! It’s a pleasure to follow both this home and your crazy airplane builds!
3:23 love watching your videos hope to see more in-depth on your theater room as I’m in the process of finishing part of our basement into a theater for the whole family to enjoy. Keep up the great videos and can’t wait to see the new plane build!
I love these videos. I don’t come in often, but I should. I look forward to these videos. You’re such a fascinating individual. I love you and your family. Keep making videos.
Sometimes watching these sorts of things it's easy to feel jealous. But man you work hard. I've got it pretty good. I don't want to work as hard as you so good on you. You deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labour
Hey Mike! I love seeing this project coming together, thank you for sharing so in depth about the various aspects that go into the build!
I was so happy to see you doing things right--then you poured the outside slabs with no steel!!! In a freeze thaw climate to boot. Oh well, the gods how far they fall!

The most expensive home ever built in my SE Idaho county was built by a past owner of the Flying J truck stop chain, I did the crane work on it so got to see it all put together. The concrete flatwork guys...., you did good, just stay out of their way and let them do their thing!
The "dungeon" area and just the coolness and bigness of a lot of areas of the house and backyard and property had me thinking family laser tag or paintball wars SWAT team style would be really cool in a house like this. One team the invaders of the property, one team defending. Snipers up at the pool, etc. 😋 Just a blast I bet. :-)
Love all your projects. Watching the house build is bringing out the Fire Chief in me. Please tell me you are installing a RESIDENTIAL SPRINKLER SYSTEM. Your family’s safety comes first. Sprinklers are inexpensive when compared to loosing family or home due to fire.

Just a tip on that pool vault. When I built mine, the pipes dumped into the vault at 90 degrees like yours appear to do which creates a ton of noise. Simply adding 45 degree bends with pipes that terminate under the water surface will quiet it way down. I'm curious what the vaults are lined with. I went with a surface treatmnent that the vault manufacturer recommended, but while it's more expensive, I recommend the longevity of just plastering the vaults instead.

I have a 21 ft swim spa and hot tub that the electric bill is over $400 per month. What is the electric budget for this monster? Thousands? WOW!!
I'd guess geothermal wells are the plan, but Mike always seems a step ahead of the world around him, so perhaps he has something more exotic in mind.
He said in an earlier episode the walls around the pool have an insulation barrier from the concrete to the dirt, meaning that the dirt won't suck out the heat and the heat won't escape the pool due to the concrete acting as a thermal insulator.
@@Meyerwoodworks yep, heard that too myself. Still does answer my question. 100% the electric bill will not be zero.
@@Meyerwoodworks Insulation only slows the heat transfer. Hot tubs are insulated and yet still use lots of electricity
