      Yeah, I want to know what the builders think. Do they hate the job because it's all weird and nothing is easy, or do they love it because it's the kind of thing you don't get to do very often?

    Gotta say that with all the extreme engineering not withstanding the most amazing thing you have there is a crew who will do what you want without 'cheating' on quality and do it well. I would guess that 95% of the contractors large and small out there have the attitude of 'just get it done so we can walk away counting the money'. Then you are left holding the bag. Behind the scenes I can appreciate the many, many hours you spend babysitting the job to make sure that the corners aren't cut and substandard products aren't left in. You do have a huge advantage in them knowing this won't be your last project!!

    Mike , I have become as vested in this build as I have with Draco and Scrappy. My dad worked at a shop for the students to build projects at The School of Architectural and Product Design at NC State University for 36 years. He was a multifaceted guy that bestowed his knowledge on others and although not monetarily wealthy, his amount of knowledge that he had accumulated over the years, benefited thousands. Thank you for all you do. Before his passing, I showed him the videos of Draco and at the Time , you were doing Scrappy. I’m glad that I got to share your videos with him. He said that you were an amazing designer and builder and that he would have loved to been able to have a conversation with you. Much love from North Carolina. Can’t wait to see the next build

    I started watching, Mike, because your explanations on aircraft building and improved modifications, even by someone not totally into that kind of stuff, were so easy to follow and understand, while enjoying your thought processes as you explained some pretty advanced improvements. And feel the same way about the house build, where you are able to take some very technical engineering and explain it so most of us are able to understand the how's and why's, of some very extreme loads and building processes.

    One thing you might consider for the grand kids would be to put pumps under the floating deck with water jets to make it into a splash pad on days they don’t want to swim…

    Over engineering is a good thing I believe. So many disasters have resulted in lost lives maybe to save money or we don’t need it attitude. I wait patiently to see your videos because they’re always worth watching. I can only guess at what this build is costing but I’m sure the finished product will be well worth it. Back to work.👍👍🇨🇦

      I agree that there is way to much of that "we don't need that" attitude in business today. I think we have all seen that at many levels in business. You know it will bite them later but I just can't get any joy in seeing it happen because it impacts too many people.

    • @patheddles4004
      @patheddles4004 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right? He's not building this to be just good enough - he's building it to be as reliable as he can make it.
      I just did very rough calcs on how steady that platform will be - near as I can tell, it'll have 50+ tons of support when fully submerged and probably half of that when it's lifted up as a dance floor. You want sturdy and robust, Mike's your guy.
      (and of course he has the actual numbers for all this - he wants his platform to be steady, and sure enough it'll be like standing on a concrete slab)

    A couple of ideas:
    1) On your radiant flooring, are you installing a alternative tube system in case the pipe or tubing fails? Maybe use as a alternative is PEX A tubing.
    2) When you are covering the floor decking before concrete; Instead of asphalt felt paper, use TPO Membrane and heat weld the seams OR There is actually a LIQUID TPO that you can roll or spray on that is the same chemicals as the TPO Membrane. TPO is a much better at protecting you than asphalt felt.
    But you may not need that.

    With most if not all engineers adopting the credo of using a minimum amount of material to meet the requirements Mike has maintained the prectice of ruggedly overbuilt to withstand any unforeseen circumstance. I do have one question about the cable system for the pool deck. I did not see any inspection or access panels to inspect the cable and pulley system for the pool. Surprising after watching all of the care and attention to detail Mike put into putting those panels into Scrappy. ( I also would have went with larger diameter pulleys for the cables to reduce flex stress.)

    As I probably already mentioned somewhere, using prefabricated wood like OSB, or other stuff where pieces of wood are mixed with different types of glue (particularly raw ones, without glossy cover), as casing for casting concrete, can impact quality of the concrete, at least at its surface... different chemical mixing with the cement is strange, still unexplored thing (probably similar things happens at our rivers, lakes, sea, that we still don't know well)... ... try it first at small samples, if You need high quality... Mike i was wondering if you could bottle whatever it is you use too give you the Super Human energy that you portray on a regular basis. I am amazed at the drive and good carma that you show every time we watch your videos. Truly Amazing****

    I would love to see Draco rebuilt with a wing like you designed for scrappy. It would give Draco incredible abilities.

    Waiting on a crane, or a concrete truck (or ten) and then they actually show up early, THAT ONE TIME, and they get ticked at you. I miss those days.
