      How much in meters is it there? I know similiar conditions from the snow holes "Arlberg" in Austria and Balderschwang in Germany, but it seems much.... And what is the altitude there?

    So awesome - that first 5 minutes is my road/driveway! We hike another 400 yards from our parking spot (visible at 4:24) to our cabin which my parents built 60 years ago when I was a baby. Glad to see it as we've not been able to get up there from our Truckee since before all the storms began. The 8-10 households along that road pay $1200 each per winter to keep that road plowed!

    • @gobbletegook
      @gobbletegook ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wonder how much it costs for those people that have to have their roofs cleared off. I see that a lot of the homes have metal roofs and that will allow it to slide off more...but that happens for those that don't? And the same guys that do the roads probably side line to do roofs...bt that would only be AFTER they clean the roads, driveways, or parking lots.

    • @jenniferroberts7581
      @jenniferroberts7581 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@gobbletegook People up there don't generally get their roofs cleared - building codes require 500 pounds per square foot snowload! But over the years, yeah, major damage has happened - typically to older houses. Our cabin has a shed roof, but not much slope - but it's built with 4x14 beams on 18" centers -- in big snow years, those beams deflect a few inches! And a big glacier builds up and eventually slides off the back with a huge crash. Sorry I can't post photos here.

    If you haven't lived there you just can't fathom the amount of snow the Sierra Nevadas can accumulate. In my early adulthood in the late 70s and early 80s, I used to cross country ski around Norden and Kingvale. On several winters, you would have to be hyper vigilant when skiing across powerline rights of way, as the charged lines were at a height that you could ski into them or across them.

    You can judge the depth of snow by looking at the aerial telecom cables. They are usually 18-20 feet in height and the snow is deep.

    Do you still get mail delivery? Amazon? Instacart? idk I'm in Napa County. Thanks for info O:)
    Many of us have heard the postal carriers' motto in one form or another. “Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds.” According to Wikipedia, the original saying was spoken about 2500 years ago by the Greek historian, Herodotus.
    My mail lady would be So upset. lol O:)

    • @WxChasing
      @WxChasing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, it is critical to the state. What the state really needs is for some late season snow and for temps not to be well above average March-July so the snow pack doesn't melt as fast as it has in previous years. Also, all of the burn scars from the wildfires the past decade have left a lot of burn scar lacking trees to shade the snow from the sun. This causes the melt to accelerate and increases water loss. Finally, the ground has been so dry it has absorbed most of the snow pack before it reached reservoirs in the past few years. This was very much needed.

    What drone are you flying in these conditions? Any issues with battery life?

    • @WxChasing
      @WxChasing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've flown a ton of drones in sub freezing temps including -20's. As long as the battery is warmed preflight, I really don't see a huge difference in the battery life until it gets below zero and even then it isn't anything crazy.

    I have so many questions. Loved the Winter Wonderland especially the aerial view. Just thought you were driving too fast down those one lane roads. Kids could be near the road like that one spot. Is this place a fire hazard in the summer? That's the main thing I would be worried about.
