You should install a diesel heater in the defender. They are much more effective at heating than a buddy heater, they create dry heat which won't cause condensation, and you can tap it into the defender's fuel tank so you always have a fuel source for it.

Yes, we fitted these to our Icelandic builds, very effective in temperatures as low as minus 60 Celsius.

I was just going to suggest this myself,i have one in my suburban.
I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I used it to heat my roof top tent in 0°f weather.
I stayed extremely warm and they sip diesel. I had it running for about 2 days straight.

The semi tractor-trailers I used to drive had the same ice build-up on the wiper blades, to the point the rubber was an inch off the glass. My Jeep CJ-5 also had that problem. The company I drove for was too cheap to install heated wipers.

Please install a diesel heater for Poe. It's better for your vehicle and it will help with your condensation issues. You also need to get proper ventilation in that thing. Carbon monoxide is no joke. Get one of those inside just to be safe. You got this, Maria!

@@ngs5554 No sass, just some envy. lol Definitely use the wipers, but be gentler with them. They can get expensive to replace through wear and tear, especially if they are frozen to the windshield. When they are slapped hard against the glass, it could not only cause damage to the blades, but also risks breaking the windshield. I usually let the car warm up and use the front defroster to melt the ice before lifting them from the glass or using them. It isn't recommended to use wipers or open side windows when everything is frozen; they weren't meant to work that hard. btw, we just got a whole winter's worth of snow in the past 3 days. 🤪

I’ve got a Chevy truck with an aluminum shell that I have to sleep in during the winter months. My set up is a 29 “ x 72 “ x 3” mattress. , a Browning sleeping bag -40 and two heavy blankets in case it’s warm enough to use just those or extra layers if it gets too cold.
Always open a window for the Mr Buddy heater and it cuts down on the condensation. Always wonderful getting dripped on when it’s cold outside. When everything works correctly it’s hard getting out of a nice warm bed . Good luck.

You need a diesel heater. They're cheap and your truck is already a diesel. Also you won't get the condensation you get from your propane heater and it's safer. Mount it to your roof rack and get someone to cut a hole into your rig and insulate it. You'll have all the heat you can want.

I watch a few vanlifers from Canada. Most of them used to used the buddy heaters. They all had the condensation issue until they got either a diesel dry heater. Since you run on diesel, they just tapped into the main gas tank, and never have to worry about it running out. Some cold days they run it all night. Maybe something to think about, also don’t have to worry about carbon monoxide

Something I learned via driving a semi truck in the winter. When it’s that cold out turn your defrost off and put it on feet heat. Let your windshield get cold. The ice frozen to it will fall off and the snow won’t stick to or freeze on it.

There are specific precautions concerning flying drones in cold temperatures; one issue being rapid battery drainage. And they don’t recommend flying them in temperatures less than 32 degrees F. Anyway, sorry you lost your drone. But your Defender performed great. And you and Blue are safe. Yes, you do have the cutest dog in the world!❤️

Adventures always come with struggles and tribulations. As a drone pilot, i definitely felt that loss. But at the end of the day at least you were able to maintain a positive attitude about the mishaps. That says alot about your ability to appreciate the moments and the experiences reguardless. And nobody was hurt during your adventure! 😊

Nice job making through the cold temps! Coldest I slept in was -7 at arches national Park. I slept in my truck bed with a tonneau cover. I had a foam sleeping pad with a sleeping bag and 3 blankets. To stay warm I cooked a few rocks and placed them on a rack to warm things up. I slept great surprisingly, but that might have been the Mezcal 🤙

Kudos! We just did a tent camping trip in a truck bed tent (with our 2 cats and dog), and the coldest it got was 22°F overnight. We have the larger Mr.Buddy heater, which ended up being way to hot (even in a tent with windows vented lol), so we ended up just leaving it off. Also, Colorado looks beautiful!

Drone or no drone... the Roaming Reckless show must go on. I must say that you handled the loss of the drone quite well Maria as you do all your annoying little setbacks.
Any possibility on getting insurance for drones when you purchase them for motor loss? Any way, you and Blue are now certified Polar Bear climate survivors. 🐻‍❄ 👍

FYI... In such cold conditions, a windshield (or any window) can crack by slapping the wipers against it. And pulling wiper blades off ice laden glass can also easily destroy the wiper rubbers themselves.

I recommend using Damp Rid in the vehicle to reduce condensation… it’s usually used in bathrooms to help reduce moisture from showers but works well in your scenario.. I camp out of my Jeep and use it.

  • @kirkholden266

If you're going to do more cold weather camping consider a diesel heater. Can warm your engine and your ' home '. It's a dry heat so it takes care of the condensation and a throttle lock to raise up your idle RPM for warm up. Great Vid!

That's a British car heater for you. My 66 MGB had ice on the inside of the windshield. My fuel pump would quit, so I banged the floor where it was mounted with a hammer until it started working again then carry on.

If you keep the temperature down inside the van the windshield wont freeze up so much. a trick I learned from an old truck driver. It works. Im a truck driver who has traveled the west in winter. Wyoming in January is no joke. Be prepared or stay home
