I agree, I have NEVER seen him riff about something that happened before him...and I thought he has never been more present in the moment on stage like he is here. It's strange that people are saying this is crap, because I feel he's NEVER been more comfortable doing stand up... then he is now.
Well I guess he was highly involved in one of the most popular TV shows of all time, is found to be funny & appreciated by millions of people so I would say he has done alright for himself
thats right, its for people with a certain amount of IQ, who are older then 30. Its not meant to be funny, only to make you see the funny side of life. Not everyone is able to get this.
I LOVE this because honestly, it's a description of my life and that of many of my close family members! We struggle to let go of our stuff...we think we might want it/need it later. We think someone we love might want it/need it later. I know people (not naming any names here) whose closets are full, their basements are full, their attics and garages are full! They even pay rent to visit their stuff in Jerry's maligned "personal storage unit." We're "savers," "collectors," ok we're packrats and hoarders. But Jerry understands our dilemma and puts it in perspective for us! We want to become "thrower-outters." We even have loved ones who tell us "GET RID OF ALL THIS JUNK!! Who do you think will have to DEAL with all this when you DIE?! ME!!! It will be ME!!" And sooo ... I love Jerry because he puts the idea across with a little less passion, a calm and matter-of-fact demeanor, while he tells us the SAME THING! But of course HE won't have to DEAL with our junk when we die! ;-)
Most heartily identify with Mr. Seinfeld on this one. I had a girlfriend who saved EVERYTHING! She had (and still has) boxes and bags of books, books, books, magazines, magazines, magazines, and newspapers, newspapers, newspapers. It was like an obstacle course just going from one room to another (in a one-bedroom apartment yet)! And yes, she also had a storage unit where she wasted thousands of dollars maintaining the rest of her stuff. We broke up a long time ago (on friendly terms). I have made it my remaining mission to reduce my own allotment of stuff. If I could, I would reduce the amount of things I own so that it all could be contained in one wheeled suitcase (besides my acoustic guitar and my insulin). The only thing that stops me from completing this mission is my own irrational and foolhardy sentimentality. My moral is "If it takes you more than five minutes (to be generous) to locate any particular item in your possession, you have TOO MUCH STUFF."
I'm usually of the opinion that good comedy needs not be particularly insightful as long as it's funny, but the point he makes about accumulating useless items is making me rethink my life haha
He is the best stand up act in history. I've seen Seinfeld, the entire seasons back to back over ten times. And I am born in 1990. This man is a genius.
Lol I discovered him through my mom telling me about Seinfeld the show from a long time ago and I didn't think it would be that great but it was awesome and I love it.

one of the best comedians ever, and you can tell the deference between him and other comedians now days who always talk about juvenile sex jokes and some racial jokes and act like clowns
Not really honesty, I know both routines very well, they arent even remotely identical. One is about taking stuff on a trip, which is brilliant. This one is about a larger cycle of buying things among other things. You probably dont know much about either of these comedians.
Fantastic!!! I love his tv show wish that they could revive it but I know it is impossible to recast those characters. Probably impossible to achieve that level again but wouldn't it be grand
I've only recently started to watch some of Jerry's stand up as I felt I had to try it, seeing as he's so well respected by other Comedians. I really liked the HBO show 'Talking Funny' and with 'Comedians in Cars getting Coffee' he is in his element, but honestly I just don't find his stand-up funny. Comedy is obviously subjective, but I just find it odd that so many comedians that I love think so highly of him, yet I just don't see it. Most people on here seem to think this was a great bit, but I can't help but feel if any other comic did this people would be saying it's mediocre. There are some clever observations, but I just don't see how it's designed to make someone laugh. Maybe it's a generational thing. I almost feel wrong for not finding him funny because he's so revered. Is the respect largely based on the fact that he's a pioneer of stand-up? I understand that I'll be blasted as ignorant and 'not getting it' but I just don't think this guy can compete with the material of a Louis CK or Bill Burr. Opinions, eh?
it's completely fine if you don't enjoy this, I myself didn't laugh hysterically for the entire bit. Not all jokes are going to be relatable for everyone. I do think Bill Burr is Much funnier, but I wish he didn't needlessly swear so much :/ I believe I saw in an interview that Jerry is an amazing person off stage and. went out of his way to help a lot of comedians. They also mention the special he did about "B***" ,tanking, every night. Every comedian has said how inspiring that was.
In my opinion, his simplicity of subject but detail of complaint is what sells it. He takes something so minor, something you'd never think to complain about, and details all the reasons WHY he thinks it is so stupid. He almost makes me feel dumb for not seeing it his way sometimes, but then always makes his reasons completely reasonable yet simultaneously ridiculous. My favorite line from this has to be "All things on earth only exist in different stages of becoming garbage." So ridiculous to quantify literally everything on earth under this statement, but is it not a valid point? Just my opinion, I'll always love Jerry.
I love how Jerry can take a universal truth and break it down into something utterly hilarious. Well done.
it's really sad that you find this hilarious, really really sad
I don't know if the piece is that hilarious, but I believe that his skills and talents are hilarious. That is closer to what I meant.

Bad comedian. Successful, yes, but simply not funny.
+Rony Fluk well put.
Pretty sure its because his voice dont pitch up as much, and of course his rhythm is a little off because of age.

When he mentioned troll dolls I immediately remembered what they smelled like.
As a fan of clean jokes, he was very good ! Very clever line deliveries as well.
Some of my favorite type of comedy here.
This performance seemed like a nod to George Carlin's bit on "Stuff".
It also seemed like a nod toward the general ridiculousness of materialism
I was thinking about that towards the end.

I enjoyed this set. Seinfeld's common man take on entropy and the absurdity of consumerism. Most likely appreciated by someone over 40.
