    This is a great pattern.. I've also grown fond of tying them in the 20-24 range with a small glass "mercury" bead.

    Fished this fly today for the first time and am amazed at how may fish I caught with it. Fished it about 15" above my anchor fly. I had only tied 4 to test them out. I 'll be back on the vice this week tying more for sure.

    definitely giving this a go for grayling here in the UK. Only had medium pearl for the body so used some UV resin as belt & braces.

    My read. It’s a chromie type fly. Rising midge larvae. I use it as the weighted fly with an egg pattern or small red copper John tied to the bend as a Fall brown trout rig.
    Or alone - it’s that good and a fast tie.
    Nice. .

    I have to agree regarding the hareline scud dubbing vs the Wapsi dubbing.You will need to be a professional master dubbing ninja to dub the hareline stuff.I struggled for months getting the RW tied.I picked up the Wapsi dub and it was so easy to dub.The same for the Tungsten Surveyor.

    This has gotta imitate a scud or midge pattern I use this in my creek where there’s a lot of scuds and this catches big fish when I use size 16 and small fish but I’m not complaining at all you can still catch some monster fish in spring and winter when there’s not much bugs active it works pretty well as the scuds are something they see all day

    this is a deadly fly pattern. I know because I use it a lot and it catches fish extremely well.

    Great pattern! I have noticed that most jig style nymph pattern use a silver bead. Most fly shops offer a multitude of colors for sale as loose beads but not many of the patterns that they sell utilize them. Is there a specific explanation for this. Thanks!

  • @spikeconley

    I was curious why your standard hook for the Frenchie is a jig hook, and for this one it's a standard hook. It would seem the advantages of it would be the same on both flies. For that matter, why can't all standard nymphs be tied on a jig hook? Even if you don't plan on being near the bottom, is there some disadvantage?

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      spikeconley all nymphs can be tied on a jig hook. I often use warriors tied on jigs and they work great.

    Another thing I was curious about was why use coq de leon on the Frenchie for durability, when you use a PT tail here? thanks

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      spikeconley just demonstrating the original pattern. It works, so I don’t often mess with patterns that consistently produce. That said, I’m sure it would still catch fish with a cdl tail.
