    I tie this with exact fly with lead wrap when I strictly nymphing, but I’ll tie it without the lead wrap and use it as a dropper on a dry dropper rig, both ways work amazing!

    I love this pattern and love your vids. Still impressed those bear paws can wrap materials around a tiny hook. What other thread/dubbing combinations would you guys tie? I'm gonna tie a bunch and tied 6 of this combo tonight (sz 12, 14). Also, would you ever tie this in a 16 or 18?

    Hit a NC grand slam (Brown, Rainbow, Brook) and a 'native' (sucker) on this one today. It's my go to dropper these days. Thanks for the pheasant tail hack BTW.

    My collar doesnt hold up when fishing so I now use a dubbing loop or split the thread to apply the collar. The UV Pink is especially hard to get to hold on the thread without using the loop/split thread method. After whip finishing you just need to give the collar a little 'haircut' to get rid of the long strands.

    Absolute killer here on the lower Illinois. Best part of this fly, you do not have to make a CDC collar! Thanks, Lance

    Tied these in olive and purple for a trip to Yellowstone. Took four cuts @ 20" with them out of the lower meadow of slough creek today. Thanks.

    I really like the hook orientation on this.
    Seems it would get hung less. I'll have to try this pattern.

    • @fgr_outdoorsman
      @fgr_outdoorsman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct; jig hooks are designed for the point to ride inverted, causing less hang-ups on the bottom/vegetation.

    Used this yesterday with a floating liine and long leader on a lake. Worked fine. Do you use it on stillwater as well Lance? I know it would work under an indicator but I am beginning to like slow retrieves with floating line.....And thanks a lot for this pattern. Oh.....and the Intro makes my dog crazy.

    You guys should sell a kit of these pre tied in 12s 14s and 16s with the range of beads you would use for optimal weight coverage. Say 20 flies. You would make a killing from us avid fishers but who don't tie yet.

    Bought some of these from my local fly shop and they fell apart after just a few fish. Not sure who ties your fly but that shouldn't happen!!

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      J D did you use forceps with them? They might also have been tied without a counter rib. Pheasant tail isn’t known to be the most durable material.

    • @TTT5000
      @TTT5000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyFishFood Thanks for the reply. Yes this is true, PT is usually the first to go, however these flies were unraveling at the half hitch tie off point...and the hot spot with it. No head cement it seems. It looks like Umpqua tied these...maybe a bad batch

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      J D frustrating for sure. I’d contact the shop you bought them from to make sure they are Umpqua bugs. There are several knockoffs, but if they are truly Umpqua bugs, they are a top notch company and care a lot about their product. They would want to know
