Lol. You do love your perdigons! In our group of fly fishers, I am known for always being the first to go dry. Nothing like the excitement of seeing a fish rise to your fly. Thanks for the great vids!
Caught several trout using my usual euro- nymphing rig on the Naches river this week. When I noticed that several were in shallow water below a riffle I figured a dry fly should get their attention too. Based on your superb videos, I built an 8.5 Rainwater Rod this spring and tied up some top-shelf hoppers using your tying video and, sure enough, got hits right away and caught my first trout on a dry fly I tied myself -- I'm a convert! Thanks so much!
I have moved strictly to the top shelf hopper and perdigon combo from watching your videos! I don’t know why I bring any other flies because I seem to always find myself fishing this combo!
Drew, you are the man! Thanks for this rare footage of a talented fly fisherman who really shares his secrets-that's the stuff that we really want to know! Now I need that list of rivers and streams!! LOL, I would pay dearly for a set of your favorite flies! and the secret list od streams!! This is where you could cash in and do us all a favor!!
Drew, I just started fly fishing this year and I love your videos. Been fishing chubby hoppers with flash back pheasant tail droppers and killing it here in Colorado.
Thanks Drew. Will be going to the Black Hills in two weeks. Bought a fly tying vise and some basic materials. Will try some of these types…something simple.
Great video, Drew! I’ve been a big fan of hopper-dropper rigs for a long time as well. In high mountain streams and lakes in MT, WY, and AB my go-to is a size 10-12 Adams Irresistible with a size 14-16 generic nymph like the Pheasant Tail, and like you I’m big on tungsten beads. I’m gonna look in on your tying videos to get some new hopper patterns now.
At 4:07 good GOLL that fly looks like the dog got it! Omfg!!! Hahaha that is SICK! You love to see it!!! And I love that they have little pieces of tippet still knotted on! This is authentic Drew’s flies right here! Awesome man. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks drew, most people wouldn't give out that kind of info. I have my own patterns that work well for me, but Thanks to you I have been tieing up some foam hoppers to try and add to my arsenal. Enjoyed watching. 👍
You should do some fishing in Michigan at some point. We’ve got some great trout streams in both the upper and lower peninsula. I’d be curious to see how well you did.
Would love to buy a box of these flies to try out! Understand about staying neutral and not getting into sales. I enjoy the vids talking about flies and their use.
I was killing it yesterday with a size 14 stimulator and size 20 midge dropper ,i just ginked up the stimulator it was able to handle also a tiny split shot
Great content. General hopper dropper question. Headed over to the white in a few days for hoppers and droppers. Never fished dry dropper on the white before. When you were on the white a couple videos ago , what distance was your dropper from your dry fly.
This was awesome Drew. Thank you as always for sharing your insight with us novices! Do you sell any of your flies? I'd be extremely interested in getting some of your perdigons and Top-shelves, because I don't tie myself.
I don't. Barely can keep up with what I need. Plus there's already a ton of skepticism around youtubers only promoting the brands or products they use for profit. I don't want my channel to be associated with anything related to sales.
@@LooknFishy Understood Drew, and I think that is admirable. Guess I better learn how to tie then! 😁Thanks for all the great content and information from your experience!
Hey Drew I’ve tied up a dozen top shelf hoppers size 12 according to your video. The first dropper fly I attached to the hopper was the black one you recommend in this video (#16 jig hook,3 wraps of 0.02 lead wire,3mm T bead) Cast it out appears like the hopper is struggling to hold the fly up.Two more casts and the whole rig including the hopper sunk.Surely with 4mm foam on the hopper it should easily stay afloat with the fly?Any advise?
Interesting (and at first sight very plausible theory): big fish come to the surface to take big baits because of the energy efficiency. However..., my experience is that I catch the real big ones mostly on (very) small nymphs (size 14-16). Often same with the dry ones. Do you have an explanation for that?
Drew You ever around in Littleton Colorado Look me up I'd Get A Kick Fishing with ya! I am ging back to my Roots and hit the San Juan River By Navajo Dam and Film it All. I am new but getting going . Love Watching you your a wealth of Info. For Sure . Cool See Ya

i love the foam has so many teeth marks, it shows it works well. this has to be the most informative video for myself as a start out for dropper rigs.
Take at 4:47 drift was awesome to see. I love it when you can plainly see their decision making process and method for taking a fly. Good stuff, Drew!
Drew, I learn every time I watch your videos, which are also Top Shelf!
I have moved strictly to the top shelf hopper and perdigon combo from watching your videos! I don’t know why I bring any other flies because I seem to always find myself fishing this combo!
I wonder that myself sometimes lol!

Spot burning is a big no no
first class video, telling my friends they need to watch this one
Loved this little insight into more of the detail of how you fish. Thanks Drew.
Great video. Thanks for showing and helping other to understand better.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing Drew! Lots of cool patterns that obviously catch fish! I'm gonna tie your top shelf hopper and fish it.
Tight lines,
Steve
Been a good bug!
Enjoyed the video. Nice knowing what works for you. Some good patterns. Appreciate you sharing your experience. A1
You bet

Thanks for sharing Drew- your videos are top shelf. I watch them all. Always amazed at where you find fish. Safe travels!
Thanks drew. Information is always good. Keep up the great shows. Thanks

I’m heading there in September. Where do you plan on fishing?

This helps tons since I'm headed to Montana tomorrow for a week.
I’ve been fishing a lot of micro chubbies. Size 16 wide gap hooks, about 1/2 inch long or less. Cutthroat love them.
Thanks. During a recent trip to Colorado Ski Country, I got my first trout slam in a day. Hoppers and perdigons. That’s all I used.
Good stuff!

Did I mention it's also durable lol!
Great video. Thanks for sharing the information. What size beadhead do you use on your flies?
Always great info Drew!
Awesome video Drew 🤟🏻

Drew, what's your preferred way of rigging up your hopper dropper setup (e.g., eye-to-eye, end of the hook, etc)? Thanks much and I love your videos!
Off the bend...I don't like from the eye...seems to impact drift
Thanks for this teaching!
Thanks Drew.
Nice run thru! What weight and length rod do you like to use for these setups?
Great fly selection
Drew, Have been watching your videos for quite awhile, yours are the best. Curious: do you sell your flies?
Sorry but I don't. I barely have time to keep up with what I need...often need to bring my tying kit/materials with me on trips.
thank you, lots of info, very helpful

Nice video Drew.. me and my son have caught a ton of fish on the top shelf hopper .. they flat out eat em up
That's awesome
@@LooknFishy it's a awesome pattern for sure ! Tight lines man
Great video Drew! I’m surprised that perdigon doesn’t sink the ant. So the perdigon sinks quickly because of the slender profile, not the weight?
Great content thanks for sharing

4ft ish...but that was in 4 units. I'd absolutely adjust based on the current flow at the time!
Do you tie your nymph off the bend in the hook? Or do you put your dry on a tag?

What kind of fly line is that? It sounds so good going through the guides and I wanna buy something like that, seems so smooth!
Orvis pro textured. I dig textured lines..the shoot and mend great!
Thank you good sir 😎
Small streams its always good to fish a foam strike indicator with a hook in it and drop off wet flies in the fish's face.
In the fall when fishing slows down what are your favorite flys

You tied the hopper like in my tying video...2 pieces of foam...th-cam.com/video/O72lsumSuWA/w-d-xo.html
Yes
Weird, I'd like to see it. Can u send me a picture, looknfishy@gmail.com
No problem I’ve emailed you

You mentioned Bull Shoals ….. fish in Arkansas regularly?
All the time. I was born and still live in AR...been fly fishing our tailwaters for nearly 20 years.
Thank you! From Northwest AR.
Do you guide on any of the tailwaters?
I don't live close enough to guide. usually I just fish with my buddies up there and several of them guide.
@@LooknFishy 10-4…. I live in Northwest Arkansas. Would like to fish with you sometime if you are in the area.
Do you ever think about maybe selling some if you’re flies in an online store or something.
I have but don't want people to think I'm sharing there to persuade people to buy them from me. Plus, I can barely keep up with what I need.
Makes sense. Keep up the great content.
@@LooknFishyimagine tying millions of flies lol I'd not even wanna fish after that kinda stress haha
😂
Haven't been able to hit with a dry dropper or hopper it is a goal now

Your fly line??
Love your site. Wish you talked SLOWER.
Where’s the zebra midge? I’ve probably caught more fish on that than any other fly.
I think the perdigon resembles the zebra midge talked about that in a video once and edited it out of this one lol!
Folks…Drew is our generations Gary LaFontaine. Still waiting for him to drop his own personal fly…“The Drewtastic.”
