Some classic aircraft there Chris, I have some pictures somewhere of some Lockheed Tri-Stars operated by Gulf Air, taken at various Middle East terminals when I was over in Bahrain around 1984 I think.

I remember going to the main terminal top parking level just to see the planes land. Then used to go to a service road and watch the planes land. In the old days when the 747s and DC8s were crazy loud.

I loved that airport. However, it was just amazing to see how quickly this 'new' airport was overwhelmed with volume. For me, it had that wonderful 'international feel' of airports of that time. I can still smell the aviation kerosene and even the air conditioning. I remember the sensory buttons in the elevators. In the 60's before security, you could go into the ring and at different places for 25c you could go onto an observation deck and see the planes. Pretty fun for a kid who would have sold his liver to be a pilot.

How things have changed. Ground crew walking under the plane opening hatches while the plane is still rolling. No high-visibility vests.

Usually back then one 707 went to Manchester the others went to London don't forget back then in the early 70.s they didn't have that many 747.s so on a topical Friday night you might have 2 BOAC 707 Nd a VC10 going to England plus 2 or 3 Air Canada.s and CP Air and Wardair plus British Midland and Donaldson Air ways all leaving from Toronto on a Friday or Saturday night busy time's back then
