Time Capsule: Filey Lifeboat launched from the beach in 1960s
I sailed on the Mary, Caronia and the Saxonia. I lived across the river from Southampton and remember well seeing at least six to ten liners docked along side the wharves. I had left the Merchant Navy just before the strike. For those that didn't live back then it was a great time to be alive. I was saddened to see that the Royal Pier burnt down, best dance hall ever. Thanks for putting this up, brought back a lot of memories!
A wonderful capture.
Pity there was no audio, would have been interesting to have heard the speeches, the bands and the sailors singing.😊
Yes Dave. However it would have been tricky to get the audio from the film!
Easily assembled with instructions to see. Lightweight and eco-friend-ly. Here is the specification ready to show. Stylish, modern, ready to go. Launched from DYU. Happy to announce the T1 right on cue. Both practical and fun. These features will not be outdone. Whilst having a 250-watt motor. All you riders, this would suit.... @@ashhay1378 Many thanks for that. All in a nutshell 👍👍
I would love one of these.
@@isthisduckdead It's a good bike to ride. There is a link in the description 😉
Well demonstrated. Looks like a lovely bike and the fact that it folds in half, will be easy to fit in small boots of cars.
@@ashhay1378 Thank you. I had to put the back seat down in my Ford Fiesta to get it in the boot. But still easier than a normal bike.
Looks very interesting where can i get one?

Who remembers the monorail at Butlins?
Some classic aircraft there Chris, I have some pictures somewhere of some Lockheed Tri-Stars operated by Gulf Air, taken at various Middle East terminals when I was over in Bahrain around 1984 I think.
Quite a line up of ships, especially liners and some of the film looks as if it may have been taken during the maritime srike in the late 1960s. In addition to the "Queen Mary", at various points I can see the "Queen Elizabeth", "Caronia", and either "Franconia" or "Carmania". In addition to the Cunard' vessels the P & O' ships "Canberra" & "Arcadia" feature. From Union Castle it looks to be "Pendennis Castle", & "Edinburgh Castle", with their running mate, "SA Vaal". There is also a couple of shots of two Red Funnel' ferries, and the tug/tender, "Calshot" is assisting the US Lines freighter to her birth. There could also be a glimpse of Royal Mail's, "Andes". Thanks for posting.
ARCADIA was a regular to Australia back in the time. What a motorbike & side car at 2:40 mark, also looked like CANBERRA in the distance at 1:45 mark. Was that you tinkling the ivories Chris? Great clip would have been much better if it was longer.
Thank you Dave. I also noticed the Sidecar - a rare object these days. I can't make out the Canberra though. Not me playing. Perhaps ask my friend who plays drums in local bands, to bring them down so can do some recordings for background music whilst I play the piano. The film was on a 150ft reel, I bought recently on Ebay, had other stuff on it.
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Thank you.
@TransportNostalgia every time your videos are superlative!!!!
I'll have the avenger
@@prof1982 I prefer the Escort Sports. Takes me back to the late 1970s - I had one - bright orange - wish I still had it!!
Very nice looking old ship with great lines.
Think I preferred the 1960s Skegness, nice and clean. Its now a shit hole, fast food, drugs and migrants.
Around 1964 my father a long distance lorry driver let me have 3 days off school we took a load ot foundry bricks from hunwick co durham to thurso gas works 3 really long days no tachographs we went up to glasgow over the clyde on a ferry 7p the west saw commando memorial overnight stay ay dingwall up the east coast stunning to thurso back down to dingwall 3rd day down A9 to perth gas works with a load then back home to stanhope co durham brilliant trip
That sounds an exciting trip for you - how old were you at the time?
@TransportNostalgia hi I was 12 Yr old my first trips were when I was in a carry cot dad had a Bedford s type tipper he would take agricultural lime to Fife how me dad and mum fitted in the cab the body had to be washed out and dried to bring sacks of tatties back also back home he had j type the driver would stop mam would put my carry cot on the floor for a 2 hour trip to consett iron works to get the house work done
I remember going to the main terminal top parking level just to see the planes land. Then used to go to a service road and watch the planes land. In the old days when the 747s and DC8s were crazy loud.
Now that is a cruise ship, classic lines, not like the floating apartment blocks of today, CANBERRA looked very grand at the start and some others in the background. They had some cracking shore excursions, great video, much enjoyed Chris.
Thank you Dave - as you say a "proper cruise ship". Unfortunately the pandemic caused most of the smaller cruise ships to be scrapped. We did go on the Celebrity Solstice recently - and that size is my limit - although prefer the much smaller ships - such as the one we were on in August to Svalbard!
Wow! Looks like they're still hand loading luggage!
I loved that airport. However, it was just amazing to see how quickly this 'new' airport was overwhelmed with volume. For me, it had that wonderful 'international feel' of airports of that time. I can still smell the aviation kerosene and even the air conditioning. I remember the sensory buttons in the elevators. In the 60's before security, you could go into the ring and at different places for 25c you could go onto an observation deck and see the planes. Pretty fun for a kid who would have sold his liver to be a pilot.
🎉🎉❤❤❤
Better to be silent, but great footage.
I prefer to add either music or on occasions sound effects - rather than leave silent - but at least you were able to switch the sound off.
Very lonely looking landscape virtually void of trees, good collection of freight and passenger working.
I don't think the landscape has changed much either.
The people on that arriving BA flight just got their bags... Gotta love YYZ
😂😂😂
Flew into Malton on a B Cal 707 in 1977 we departed during a thunderstorm
Departed during a thunderstorm and hope you arrived at your destination !
Ah the days when British Airways was actually BRITISH!! Not any more, should be called Spanish Airways now since they own it, and all the airports.............in fact lets just call Britain , Spain!
Cinecam footage from the 70s looks slightly out of focus. Has this been restored?
It was a cine film which I digitised then edited.
Watching old footage with lines and flashes of colour cast is a good thing but restorations necessary to keep the memories alive.
@@duncancurtis5108 There is a limit to what I can do with the equipment I use. However - after I have digitised a cine film - I don't throw it away.
Wait. Where is my DC-3 over at the north east hangar?
How things have changed. Ground crew walking under the plane opening hatches while the plane is still rolling. No high-visibility vests.
Who cares Milmine
Thanks for the mammories!
Three (!) BA B707s? Why?
Usually back then one 707 went to Manchester the others went to London don't forget back then in the early 70.s they didn't have that many 747.s so on a topical Friday night you might have 2 BOAC 707 Nd a VC10 going to England plus 2 or 3 Air Canada.s and CP Air and Wardair plus British Midland and Donaldson Air ways all leaving from Toronto on a Friday or Saturday night busy time's back then
That Cortina is only a year or so old and rusting already
My father bought a brand new Ford Cortina in 1966, but don't think it rusted that quickly. He sold it eventually (no idea what year) for a 1967 Hillman Hunter - in fact I had driving lessons in that car - very nice car to drive.
Thanks for uploading another of my grandfathers films 👍
Sorry for the late reply. Took a while to recover from the flight from Singapore. Will carry on digitising/editing some more of his films in due course👍
Can't wait for mum to be reunited with the kids at airshows next year.the kids being the bbmf fighters
I agree - will be exciting to see them all flying together again.
Brilliant, thanks
@@PirateRadioArchive Thank you for watching. Pity it no longer takes place.
The sights and sounds inspire goose-bumps. Beauty squared. Thank you for the experience.
@@timu438 Thank you for watching. I hope to film more of this iconic aircraft next year.
Weird and whacky and some really great classic trucks. A good time had by all!
@@dieseldavetrains8988 It was difficult to determine the exact year. Some clues gave the early 1960s, then the Mini Clubman with a 1967 "E-reg" blew that out!! Back in the UK after our 3week holiday your way!!
Looks like a good time, lots of people watching and parading. Cheers
@@wtfbuddy1 Certainly was a big parade, but sadly they no longer happen now.
Spetacular😊Something else then the Airport in Europa and States😊
@@EasyRider1977 It was great to see. We had lunch in a cafe which bordered the waterfall complex, and nice to hear falling water.

Beautiful airplane to see and most important to hear it's roar, thanks for sharing Chris. Cheers
@@wtfbuddy1 Thank you Pete. I actually left a car race meeting at Cadwell Park early to catch the Lancaster returning to Coningsby.
Uganda is such an elegant liner
@@1tzBry Certainly is. That can't be said for majority of today's cruise ships.
2 last Offshore vessels , second last is an MT design and the second one is Ulstein design x-Bow:)Both less then 7 minutes from my house
@@EasyRider1977 Thank you Oskar. That view from the Flyer Capsule was superb. 100s of ships at anchor. Over 40 years since I was on a ship in the same location!
Back in the 60s I regularly flew TCA Viscount and Vanguard. The latter was big and fast but had vibration issues from its huge props and the poor pressurization system caused everyone to get aeroplane ear pain. The Viscount was a delight to fly in.
@@roysutton577 Thank you for your information 👍
The day Reginald Molehusband got it right!
@@kevinparfitt6452 What do you mean?
@@TransportNostalgia He was a fictional character in a Public Information film from the 60s, Britain's worst parallel parker, until he did it right.
@@kevinparfitt6452 Oh, OK thanks for explaining!
Driving Assessor looks very stern and formal. I remember many years back doing an "Pre Employment Driving Assessment" in an articulated bus, reversing and kerb side approach/alingment (no arse end hanging out into traffic), scrub the tyre walls on the curb guttering and you were "FAILED!" They had white chalk based paint on the tyre walls. Hillman and a Triumph, shouldn't be too hard in those.😚
@@dieseldavetrains8988 A bus driver taking the test in either the Triumph or Hillman would find it a doddle! I used to have a Hillman Imp. Super little car.
