I wont lie, i prefer hdmi, but my backwards compatible PS3's HDMI port is dead, so using a 4K tv with no component slots, i paid £20 on amazon and bought a component to HDMI converter im actually glad i did 😅
Guys it depends on the hardware of your tv...some tvs, especially older analog crts run absolutely better with component of course, but every brand of HDTV has a different quality chip and processing when it comes to displaying digital content such as hdmi, or the analog to digital conversion happening in a modern tv. So there's no clear cut answer that's going to work for everyone.
The cecha00 and 01 consoles are laggy via HDMI when playing PS1 and PS2 games due to the built in deinterlacer. So for these consoles, that are fully backwards compatible, it is much better to use component cables
Idk if component is better than HDMI but the PS3 is pretty versatile with all the video outputs it supports. I’m only saying that because my PS3’s hdmi port stopped functioning so I have to use the AV port with component cables. Looks pretty similar picture wise but a tad darker and I can’t adjust to whether I want on RGB limited or full. I don’t get any interference even tho it’s analog maybe cause I’m using official Sony cables.
If I want to play Tekken 3 on the PS3, I have to use the component cables to output 480i or else the picture is all hacked up with bad de-interlacing or something.
Great video! I always wondered what the difference in quality was between those outputs. Do you know where in Denmark you could acquire a widescreen professional monitor? Maybe you have some connections 😅 I have a Sony BVM D20F1E myself.

@@omgitsbats the adapter doesn’t add any lag. Not noticeable at least. My comparison is not on a flat screen but on CRT. And to the naked eye there isn’t actually that big of a difference between HDMI and component on PS3 when using a CRT. Of course it depends on your CRT as well. But I also include the other benefits with component such as allowing you to output 480i.
I connected my PS3 to a 22" CRT last year using RGB SCART... I will never connect my PS3 to a 1080p Flat TV with HDMI ever again.. D-terminal isn't a digital cable. It's YPbPr. Your screenshot comparisons shots looked noticeably different from each other. I wouldn't mind seeing the subject explored more, but this isn't it. Your title feels like click bait. Your reasons for component being better came down to because component video supports 480i and HDMI does not. That's a big position for such a limited use case.
@tranceenergy3121 I don't think anyone has bothered doing any deep testing on it. It is a pretty big niche. People with multiformat CRT's that want to play PS3 is the best way possible on them. It has come up multiple times in the past, but I don't think anyone has done anything deep like comparing revisions or researching whatever chips the ps3 is using for a DAC. It's just going to be random forum posts and chat room discussions. I remember some old post of Fudoh's is what gets pointed at a lot, but from what I recall he didn't really elaborate much. It's also not an unprecedented issue. The Wii is another one with a questionable DAC.
@ the Wii is different though. Its flaws are better documented. Basically the Rev 001 models have the best output IF you use the 480p patch. The other models are unfortunately unaffected by this patch. Extreme have done some deep diving into the DAC of Wii. It outputs worse image than GameCube.
@@tranceenergy3121 Sure, like you said it's better documented. The best image you can currently get is tapping the digital signal and using a different DAC. The Wiidual mod achieved this rather well.
