126 deal was never even finalized during UPA. The defence minister George Farnandes was in talks with Dassault for Rafale but it came to a halt on 2012 for "lack of funding".
2.
The talks (which never finalized as a deal) were to buy 18 Rafale in fly away condition and rest to be manufactured by HAL.

HAL fun fact🙄
HAL may maintain the fleet of indian airforce but the maintenance line and assembly line are different. Assembly does not occur in the maintenance facility.
HAL still can't fulfill the delivery of 272 Su 30Mki which had to be delivered within 2015, and as of now will complete it by the end of 2020.
Jaguar upgradation is very slow and they said that they can upgrade only by 2024.
HAL Tejas production is very slow (currently increasing from 8 a year to 16 per year by making another assembly line.)
So if Rafale to be produced by HAL , they have to make another assembly line ( which will take atleast 2 to 3 years) and then the production will start. And after the production, the assembly line will be either useless or India has to buy more Rafale to keep it running...

Now the current deal is to procure 36 (2 sqdns) of Rafale by 2022 along with following things......
4.1 meteor missile and other armaments.
4.2 75% availability at all time.
4.3 *the offset clause* to invest in India in various modes.

In the offset clause, it is told that 50%(around 36000 cr) of the price paid by India to be re-invest in India.
There are different companies that have a tie with a foreign counterpart such as (Mahindra and Lockheed Martin) , (TATA and Boeing) , (Reliance and Dassault Aviation) etc.
The Reliance got 3 % of that offset clause to make electronic parts for Faclcon 2000 aircraft ( as being part of Dassault Aviation).
DRDO, BHEL, and many more companies got some contract according to this offset clause. Even HAL also got a collaboration to revive Kaveri engine under this deal.

As per the IAF requirment of planes, there is MMRCA 2.0 deal to buy aircraft ( which may not be finalised be cause HAL is now designing ORCA, AMCA, TEDBF etc ) for IAF.
And the case of Eurofighter Typhoon.....
It's different component is made by different companies and during emergency condition, negotiating with one country is better than to talk with many countries...
And even HAL Tejas is better than Eurofighter Typhoon.(see the specs of both and then compare,which is better...)

Qatar purchased 24 Rafale fighters for Euro 6.3 billion ie 263 million per unit
Egypt purchased 24 Rafale fighters for Euro 5.4 billion ie 216 million per unit
We purchased 36 Rafale fighters for Euro 7.87 billion ie 218 million per unit
But RG says we paid 3 times ?????

Moreover the offset clause requires Dassault to invest 50% of the (roughly 30,000 crore INR) to invest back in India. So they have chosen multiple partners to partner with in India. HAL has always been delayed in their promise delivery. it's plagued with inefficient staffs. 272 sukoi planes were supposed to be delivered by now. till now more than 40 units pending. HAL tejas has come out from factory still struggling to achieve FOC while it should have been placed as monument in museum. MIG21 like 3rd gen aircrafts are not maintained properly and got Nick name as flying coffins. do you think they could ever build or mainatain plane equivalent to Western standards?

There is also a small thing called the Meteor BVR missiles, other weapon systems (including precision-guided air to ground munitions) and the Electronic countermeasures capabilities that have been included. The original deal that was never signed only accounted for the aircraft and not the associated system which explain why the secrecy as u don't want ur enemies to know what ur offensive capabilities are.
Even for the SU 30 MKI we don't know the armament specs that India bought and uses.
As far as the reliance issue is concerned yes that is an uneasy coincidence.

For instance, comparing the S-400 price disclosure to Rafale jets is, absurd! Rafale has add-ons that include sophisticated radars, missiles, counter-measures and such electronic warfare. Disclosing the price of a fully loaded Rafale jet will allow for India's adversaries to guess the add-on equipment and become ready with counter measures.

Incomplete info. UPA govt was negotiating, nothing was signed. Dasault was not to let HAL do the manufacturing because HAL isn't competitive enough, rather they haven't delivered their existing projects yet. The taxpayer has the right to know, but national security comes first, we cannot expose the weapons systems fit on the aircraft. Also, the final price per Aircraft includes costs for Maintainance infrastructure as well as other things.

This video is clearly biased. I hate to say this. It begins with a lie that previous govt had done a deal .if so where is the link of news report showing agreement was done. So when no deal was done there is no question of comparison. So this video is fully wrong. I liked earlier videos but this video is based on wrong facts in my opinion.
Half information given in here. Not mention about fully loaded vs base plane cost and many important information missing here. Wrong comparison of S 400 price and Rafale price. S 400 has no customization but we customize Rafale and if we gives exact price of Rafale enemy can calculate what customization being done.
Rafael was short listed by previous government not this government. This government just made it into Government to government deal instead of dealing with dassault. And offset as I read the policy its up to OEM. I don't think the offset is of 30000 crores because there are other 3cos also in this deal which are Safran and Thales I guess. So dassault share is less of 8000crores of offset I guess. And as per media reports they have given to 72 other cos.so how can reliance benefit. That's all.

How come reliance is selected when they do not have experience in defence and why price cannot be disclosed per plane?
Price has been disclosed as 670 crore per plane without India specific additions by minister of defence (state ) in parliament. Regarding offset. I m quoting as per media reports all planes will come in flyaway condition. . Not a screw of it will be made in India. Reliance is chosen as offset partner by Dassault and not government. In offsets if obligation is not fulfilled Dassault will have to pay penalty and Dassault has said in ANI interview its a joint venture. So why they chose reliance should be addressed to Dassault and not to government. The offset policy was made in 2013 if I am not wrong when previous govt was in power . This was addressed in ANI interview to Dassault CEO.
Actually, there is no contractual agreement on that with the Rafale deal with Dassault only a letter of promise from the French government that is not even legally binding

Make some parts in India, send them to France and then move them back here? That's not "Make in India", is it? Why give it Reliance who have no idea what they're doing instead of HAL? Reliance failed at Telecom even. They shouldn't be given any defence contracts. But Lord Mukesh Ambani is too powerful for the BJP to handle.

126 deal was never even finalized during UPA. The defence minister George Farnandes was in talks with Dassault for Rafale but it came to a halt on 2012 for "lack of funding".

The talks (which never finalized as a deal) were to buy 18 Rafale in fly away condition and rest to be manufactured by HAL.

HAL may maintain the fleet of indian airforce but the maintenance line and assembly line are different. Assembly does not occur in the maintenance facility.
HAL still can't fulfill the delivery of 272 Su 30Mki which had to be delivered within 2015, and as of now will complete it by the end of 2020.
Jaguar upgradation is very slow and they said that they can upgrade only by 2024.
HAL Tejas production is very slow (currently increasing from 8 a year to 16 per year by making another assembly line.)
So if Rafale to be produced by HAL , they have to make another assembly line ( which will take atleast 2 to 3 years) and then the production will start. And after the production, the assembly line will be either useless or India has to buy more Rafale to keep it running...

Now the current deal is to procure 36 (2 sqdns) of Rafale by 2022 along with following things......
4.1 meteor missile and other armaments.
4.2 75% availability at all time.
4.3 *the offset clause* to invest in India in various modes.

In the offset clause, it is told that 50%(around 36000 cr) of the price paid by India to be re-invest in India.
There are different companies that have a tie with a foreign counterpart such as (Mahindra and Lockheed Martin) , (TATA and Boeing) , (Reliance and Dassault Aviation) etc.
The Reliance got 3 % of that offset clause to make electronic parts for Faclcon 2000 aircraft ( as being part of Dassault Aviation).
DRDO, BHEL, and many more companies got some contract according to this offset clause. Even HAL also got a collaboration to revive Kaveri engine under this deal.

As per the IAF requirment of planes, there is MMRCA 2.0 deal to buy aircraft ( which may not be finalised be cause HAL is now designing ORCA, AMCA, TEDBF etc ) for IAF.
And the case of Eurofighter Typhoon.....
It's different component is made by different companies and during emergency condition, negotiating with one country is better than to talk with many countries...
And even HAL Tejas is better than Eurofighter Typhoon.(see the specs of both and then compare,which is better...)

Secondly the video says 9% cheaper and 20% cheaper. If I remember correctly the 9% cheaper was for aircraft without India specific additions. And 20% cheaper is for overall aircraft with missiles etc. Frankly I don't know abt the 40%. I m searching where IAF said 40% cheaper. If u can forward me the link it would be great. First of all the deal signed comes not only bare aircraft also with India Specific Enhancement + Arnament (missile, Meteor BVR + Stormshadow missile + base preparing (2000 lb bomb attack can be withstand + Maintenance package (France will have to help anytime for 75% Oprational fleet capability)..

now compare with Qatar deal, they signed 24 Rafale for 6.2 Billion Euro. WIthout Maintanenace package + Storm Shadow missile + Without Base preparing cost + No special modification.. Their Rafale dont have additiona defencive suite like Istraely X-guard decoy system.

Firtsly no one tell how much is actuall cost and time that will take to build jets in india by hal.... And in documentary jet cost was mentioned as 120million euros now you can do the math and check whats the price is.... Airforce has selected on its own so government going as per choice of IAF

As per my understanding of the subject , Rafale signed by UPA and NDA were not the same . UPA rafale deal was bound to be cheaper not because of 126 fighters but because of the Rafale under UPA did not have RBE2 passive electronically scanned radar ,which cost almost the price of the entire plan because of the technology . Rafel under NDA have this RBE2 tech which makes it more expensive than UPA.
One of the reason why Rafale count was cut down to 36 because because government wanted to invest in the research of Fifth generation fighter aircraft and wanted to promote Tajes which was long pending. Had 126 Rafale was ordered , Tejas production would have to be scrapped . Also Rafale was chosen because it is manufactured by France which has a friendly relation with India. Eurofighter is manufactured by Italy ,UK and Germany , which dose not share similar level of relation with India as France .

HAL is not good. It has a huge order book but the delivery is not upto point. To manufacture a helicopter they were given contract for 5 years to deliver they took 12 years. You can look into annual report of company in BSE.

The reason the old deal was scrapped is because India wanted Dassault to give quality assurance for jets produced by HAL. Dassault refused to give any assurance for jets produced by HAL.
So the Indian government made a new deal and took HAL out of the deal. That's why a fresh deal was required.

There were many differences b/w the old and the new deal. Including modifications to carry nuclear payload. Maintenance guarantee for 15 years with 70% availability. Arms such BVR Missiles. Modifications to engine to suit Indian environment, hangar facilities etc.

MMRCA deal formulated under UPA just reached a conclusion that they will buy either Rafale as L1 or Eurofighter as L2 if in case the former deal fails. What they presented was just a rough estimate not a specific figure. Ever heard about INS Vikramaditya? What was cost estimated at the onset and what was the amount paid on conclusion? Did Mr. RG gobbled up 1.6 billion dollar? That too back around 2010?
What was the total rise in cost of iron, glass and other materials from 2008 to 2016-17? How much did rupee depreciated? And how did Euro gained? Did you consider the cost of insurance? The cost of upgrades: India specific enhancements? The cost of all the armaments and spares could easily match the cost of a aircraft. The cost of temperature controlled hanger for 72 jets and the training aside.
Moreover, 40% of the cost of the deal is to be invested back in India by Dassault as per its contract obligations.
And let's not forget the Bofors scam or the tatra scam. Gandhis have been ruling this country just as a constitutional monarchy. Gandhis have been more authoritarian than the current government. Sukhoi 30 MKI jets made by HAL are comparitively more expensive than jets imported directly from Russia ...Also they are just assembling them with knock off kits....so its just take ng more time and resources thus increasing costs... So the discussion of making them in HAL cheaper is foregone....
