Let's be honest, the Phantom is the bad guy. Henk's Phantom sounds more like a controlled murderer, the planner, ice cold, adding the edge when he get's excited. Marko's Phantom is deranged with a veneer of "normal human". I absolutely love both versions and always found the original Phantom to be too slick, too controlled.
Oh really? Too slick? Too controlled? th-cam.com/video/G2zxzaWgVRA/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/j9qLfyLowjg/w-d-xo.html Two versions of the song with Sarah Brightman and both completely different. And I would neither of them consider slick.
Marko is the Mr Hyde to Henk's Dr Jekyl. Two very separate faces of the same Phantom. I don't know which interpretation is better. Happily, I don't have to choose just one of them. Not everything is a competition. Both interpretations have a good reason to exist. The calculating, precise, obsessed musical genius and the disfigured, passionate, powerful monster haunting the opera building. Both are technically correct. The best kind of correct. Same with the Christines. Floor feels more natural. The youthful new rising starlet with a gift she is only now beginning to fully be able to grasp control of, while Tarja sounds more "classically trained" and controlled. Even in her final outbursts, she still doesn't let passion take control of the instrument. Two very different women being portrayed. Both talented as hell. Personally, I give Floor a slight advantage, as she lets me feel the character a bit more. She doesn't perform the song. She becomes the character. I don't quite feel that with Tarja. She remains Tarja singing Christine's role. Splendidly. But still, her personality shines a bright light directly at the edge of the stage making me painfully aware of the fourth wall, if you know what I mean. When it comes to vocal talent, they are both unmatched and unique. They are both brilliant, but Floor has a slight edge. To illustrate the difference a bit more, I'll use a different A.L. W. musical piece as performed by two different artists. Memories from Cats. Barbra Streisand does a technically perfect job. Sings every note just right. But it still feels like a song. Recorded in a professional recording studio, by a great singer. But a song. And then, there's the Elaine Paige version from the official DVD recording of the Broadway stage oerformance. When she sings it, you can feel the desperation for another chance of the old cat, once living a perfect life. You can almost feel the matted fur, the bald spots, and the knots and scars on its skin. She doesn't just perform. She paints the character with her voice. Barb makes you nod in appreciation of vocal prowess. Elaine makes you want to pet the poor animal. I hope that makes sense.
Floor's sister did an interview on a Dutch TV show where she talked about 8-year-old Floor running around the house singing Phantom in pigtails with a poster of Henk in her room.

The most badass thing for me during the nightwish performance is the "WALRIGHT!" that Marko shouts right at the end. Not because it's high, but because it's perfectly placed in the silence, and most of all, fucking metal
irst off i knew Marco would surprise you second i love that hand off Tuomas does and last one of the reasons for Tarja leaving is that Diva like behavor that you picked up. she also had the flue or some other upper respitory illness so the fact that she can sing so well even when she is sick is amazing this was truely the End of an Era this is Tarja's last time on stage with Night wish
Please react to "Passion and the opera" an old Nightwish song. I think there are no luc performances with the band, but there are some recordings of Tarja covering it in one of her conocerts as soloist. It is a gorgeous song!
Very much agree, those performances are very different and both great... The real takeaway from all of this is clearly that Marko is a hecking boss! Real shame for all of us that he had enough and wanted out...

Elizabeth pegged her at least an E#. G is possible. There is a 26 minute video of every note in her range through her single career. Kitos does mean thank you. You should know she had a cold and could not sing during her reversal for the show. Tarja IS a trooper. Finishing a long world tour with the biggest show they have ever done at home in Finland. They were welcomed home by the fans as national heroes. You can imagine the uproar when.the band posted the Dear Tarja letter online that they told her she should wait till tomorrow to open. Motivations we can only Guess's at. I might hope part of it was after.the high of the concert and the tour they at least wanted to let her enjoy the night. But as she said in her interview a few days later. She was crying tears of joy after that show. Her pain and efforts with the showmanship had paid off. Hearing the crowd so into the performance. Singing along with her. What artist would not love that feedback. There is no drug quite like the stage. It was Charles Dickens who compared it to the opium pipe. What is it that drew Ozzy Osbourne out of drugs and alcohol, performing on stage. The audience feedback. Of course withdrawl is a real thing. Concerts end. Tours end. Then you are home in the quiet and everything you left there is back. If you don't have a balance at home...trouble follows. That is why I am so glad she has a family. Husband and child to keep her grounded. Friends no doubt. Then when recharged she can throw herself into creative projects. Like her book. Like concerts. I would have to agree with everything that has happened in the world especially 2020, that if ever there was a quite time to reflect and put pen to paper about your life and why it is you do what you do, this is it. Could not tour so this seems a good project. Time with family no bad thing either. Now yes book is done, she is writing and recording new music. Busy busy diva, at her home in Spain.
I still have no idea why people have to have competition as fans of singers. Tarja is awesome (I honestly think her singing has gotten better as she’s gotten older and using different vocal types/techniques). Floor is awesome (also as she’s grown in age and vocal maturity has gotten better). They are both unbelievable singers. Leave it at that. I’m a guitar guy...I don’t compare EVH or Steve Vai with SRV or Clapton. They are all great in their own uniqueness. You can’t say who’s “better” there is no better or worse...they are different. Same with Tarja and Floor - completely different voices but both great. My brain resonates more with Floor’s voice same as I like the way SRV plays blues more than Clapton or BB King. And EVH is my rock guy (but I also love Vai and Malmsteen and Slash and Petrucci). My point: enjoy them both for who they are and their voices and stop comparing them like fanboy/girl trolls. Also, Marko rules 🤘
@@CharlieCalottaReacts wasn’t towards you...to the commenters below arguing over stuff. I know you appreciate the talent of all these singers. Sorry if you thought was directed at you.
In case of Floor i can say she is the best because she can do anything, from growling to pop/metal/rock to opera. She is perfection for Nightwish. Floor is not just different, she is way more versatile than 99,9999% of all singers on the planet.
@@nicholew350 Sure, if you love hearing the same style of voice in each and every song. Personally i love how Floor can go from growling to rock to metal to opera in even one song. Can't get enough of that when she mixes things up.
Funniest part to me is that, while boys and girls till today arguing who's better, Floor or Tarja, those two AMAZING ladies are friends in real life, and probably cannot be bothered more 🤣🤦♀️ In my own opinion, Tarja owns this, her opera voice sounds more natural and powerful, probably it has to do with lengty classical training. Floor, as far as I know had classical training as well, but only 1 year. But when in comes to other techniques, Floor.. hands down. I adore them both ❤
I agree! While Floor is fantastic, Tarja just seems more at home in a song like this one..Floor comes off somewhat unnatural, which is too bad, because she is really great at what she does. To me, sadly, Phantom Of The Opera is not in her ballpark
I agreed I love them both but hearing Tarja sing in a closed stadium songs like this one will always blow you away. Her voice is so strong and I am pretty sure the mic is just an accessory
Mmmm then maybe that is why Tarja is struggling with breathing. You can actually see it, and she even breaks to breath. Her breathing also feels heavy at the end which it shouldn't. However, if she had the flu that is where it would get reflected.
Yes! I love them! Joke's voice floats so effortlessly through her passagi throughout the whole score. Beautiful. And their acting on the soundtrack is really some of the best.
@@sarahweis1703 who's whining? Ali simply voiced appreciation. Pretty ridiculous that Floor's fans have a nasty habit of completely dissing her friend.
Both versions are great loved youre reaction and explaining the technicks, Henk played the Phantom for 3 years in theaters in holland, so he nows tge part😀 the distortion he used, he learned from floor in 2 hours before the recording, thanks again, stay save and keep enyoing music
Actually Henk was taught earlier, in 2 hours, to sing with distortion by his own vocal coach. He wanted to learn this to perform " the sound of silence " from Disturbed, for Floor. On her episode of " beste zangers 2019. " He than used the distortion while singing the Phantom of the Opera, as a surprise to her. He told so himself, in an interview. At the general rehearsal he didn't use it yet.
I get the feeling Marco gave it that extra so Tarja would have the performance of her life this night. If it was a favor or his inner angst is hard to know.
For your information: Marco was the most insistent of letting Tarja go. He stated: "It is her or me, that is going out." It is very fine, that he does not allow it to spill in to this performance. True professionalism for the audience's sake - despite of all.
We should avoid 'comparising comparisons by three million coaches on YT, between the two ladies or between Marko and Henk'... People usually tend to value one's qualities above the other...while 'all' of these high-quality singers ánd individuals, are extremely talented...each one of them on their own playgrounds! Love your upload, Sir! And, ofcourse, warm greetz from Those Netherlands!

The version of Nightwish with Tarja is my favorite. The power that Tarja's operatic voice has is incredible. Floor has a powerful belting, but a soft operatic voice. For The phantom of the Opera, Tarja's voice impresses me much more.
@@ralfmeyer9086 It is important to differentiate what is personal taste and what is fact. It is a fact that Tarja has a powerful operatic voice and Floor has a soft operatic voice. This is not a matter of opinion, it is clear and has to do with the vocal characteristics of each singer. It is a personal taste to prefer that Cristine, the character played by Tarja and Floor in this song, have a soft or powerful operatic voice. According to my personal taste, I prefer a powerful operatic voice in this song. I think a powerful operatic voice is better suited to this song, since Cristine is a solo opera singer, and at the end of this song the idea is that she sing with all the power of a great diva. You can prefer a Cristine in a more delicate voice, this is your personal taste and there is no problem with that. However, in fact, Floor does not have an operatic voice as powerful as Tarja. Floor's power lies in her belting technique. I say that because I know Floor's work well. I've been following her since After Forever. This does not mean that one is better than the other. Each of them has different voices and made different vocal study options.
I prefer Tarja's as well. Floor's is pretty and I respect her skill, but I'd never return to listen to it because the overall sound isn't nearly as captivating. This song is just PERFECT for Tarja's vocal quality in general, there is nothing Floor could do to best her in this song just like I'm sure there is a song Tarja can't best Floor in.
I actually find the Nightwish rendition to be more chaotic more difficult to connect to. The pacing the note the tone of Tarja's arrangement to be less pleasant, like its pushing note to push note. Tarja never had me have chills even if she is an amazing singers. Floor gave me chills so many times I dont understand but there is something much more appealing to me to the tone and delivery Floor has in general.
Tarja is good... but Floor is the better one of them two... More dynamics, better range, better abillity to ad different colors in the story etc etc etc.. Tarja is basiclly just screaming...
Well you honor me BBS by reinforcing your covering Floor. Interestingly enough, we'll at least to me, this was my first time performance of floor having fun. Followed that with her small solo version of Shallow and a couple other performances that left them in tears. But excuse me if I repeat the wonderful and unique Diana Ankudinova (ankoo deen a va Emphasis on deen). Enjoyed!
A very high never doesn't always have to sound nice... Tarja just screams in that song.... Floor is much more versatile with much better facial expressions... With Tarja everything is boring...
You really should listen to "High Hopes" (Pink Floyd Cover) from that same show of Nightwish. Just the boys, without Tarja (costume change), and Marco performes so great. In that song, he gets me emotionally, like Floor normally does. Fantastic!!!!!!!
And yes, it is a D6, the same note that Tarja sang with Marko. Sarah Brightman had to sing an E6 (originally a G6, but she couldn't get that reliably, so Andrew Lloyd Webber changed it).
Floor's note is a D6 indeed but Tarja's note is an Eb6, I just checked it now in my piano. Doens't mean its better or worse, it is simply Not the same note! Cheers \m/ \m/
@@Nikioko Being an Opera fan for many years, If I had to choose I would actually prefer Placido Domingo, who actually had a more diversified career inside Opera than Pavarotti had (of course in certain roles such as Tonio, Pavarotti would excell, but its just normal that each singer has his most suited parts), as well as Domingo had a bigger voice who could easily sing above a huge orchestra in many wagnerian roles (Pavarotti's voice hadn't enough stamina for Wagner, there's no microphones on real Opera) and inspite of the natural aging of the voice Domingo still goes on, adapting to newer roles in recent years and even exploring a lower range with brilliance! However Pavarotti who was amazing too, knew better how to make it mainstream also, specially when is voice was getting already out of prime from the 90's on, it was a wise move, even commercially, but what I mean is: never think that Domingo is Less than Pavarotti inside the Opera world, because it is the other way around! And on the older generations there were other tenors as great as Pavarotti (Bjorling, Corelli, del Monaco, etc... and Pavarotti knew it!). I seriously doubt it, but willing to see what you have got. They did go on a short tour in the Netherlands just before Covid-19 hit the world and a while after the show they did on the Beste Zangers. I sort of think you mean this performance: th-cam.com/video/JmqfhB0RzSU/w-d-xo.html ... it took place @ 013, maybe that it is what got you wondering about this. 013 is a concert venue in Tilburg, the Netherlands. 013 is also the prefix for phone numbers in Tilburg. Or did you come across other footage?
That was not with Henk, they met for the first time at beste zangers 2019. Except for the fact that Floor saw him, when she was 11 years old, as the Phantom, in the musical the Phantom of the Opera. After that she wanted to be a singer herself. In 2013 she sang it with Joacim Cans . And she also sang it with Russel Allen.

14:49 yes they (specifically Thomas) had already decided to sack her before this concert. It was pretty sick the way they treated her.

That was indeed a perfect moment that never gets old with repeated viewings.
Tarja has never held an attitude. That is the cry of the bully who has abused her good nature when they finally stand up for themselves.
I always miss the stream. Thanks for putting them on TH-cam
You can see how tough this concert was for the band when Tuomas nearly loses it at the start of "Ever Dream".
Borrowing her grace for the last time.
I love when reactors notice my boy Marco. He's a stud haha
Tarja sounds more haunting with the high notes 😄 I love both versions though
She has a load of power, but it's under control. I love how thoughtful and humble she is.
Please react to "Passion and the opera" an old Nightwish song. I think there are no luc
performances with the band, but there are some recordings of Tarja covering it in one of her conocerts as soloist. It is a gorgeous song!
Very much agree, those performances are very different and both great...
The real takeaway from all of this is clearly that Marko is a hecking boss! Real shame for all of us that he had enough and wanted out...
When this was recorded it was a heavy rain so the tent was near to collapse and leaked water all over but they just ignored it and did their job.
You can actually see the water from the thunderstorm dripping, next to Floor. And also next to Henk, while they are singing.
It's great to know Floor and Tarja are really good friends in really life.
Tarja sings an Eb6, the high note.
Marko so Gritty and powerful and while playing base.
It has been my dream to see Floor and Marko perform Phantom and I had thought it was impossible until beste zangers. But then the 1/12/21 came with Marko's resignation. Hope one day when he's back, maybe he'll be invited to a show and they decide to perform it 🥰🥰🥰
Elizabeth pegged her at least an E#.
Who made it a competition?
@@CharlieCalottaReacts wasn’t towards you...to the commenters below arguing over stuff. I know you appreciate the talent of all these singers. Sorry if you thought was directed at you.
In case of Floor i can say she is the best because she can do anything, from growling to pop/metal/rock to opera. She is perfection for Nightwish.
Floor is not just different, she is way more versatile than 99,9999% of all singers on the planet.
@@Harolddespui Not really. Versatility doesn't always mean better.

Marko rocks for sure. Two different versions, both awesome. NW version is clearly heavier and metallic. Love them both. Kiitos!
Marko y Tarja !!!!
Please do Nightwish - High Hopes (pink floyd cover)
One thing you should know about this concert, it was the last song and Tarja had the flu and could still sing like this....
Mmmm then maybe that is why Tarja is struggling with breathing. You can actually see it, and she even breaks to breath. Her breathing also feels heavy at the end which it shouldn't. However, if she had the flu that is where it would get reflected.
@@dalia1598 Nee hoor, van Floor.
Last song of the concert was Wish I Had an Angel.
I dug up a live performance on Dutch TV of Henk and Joke de Kruijf from 1993, and Henk's voice is pretty much as it is here.
Yes! I love them! Joke's voice floats so effortlessly through her passagi throughout the whole score. Beautiful. And their acting on the soundtrack is really some of the best.
First time she sang in this show she was singing Vilja Lied to Henk and hardly any of the other singers had even heard of her so they were stunned.
Only the rock community knows her
The ending of the one with Tarja always gets me. Such an amazing performance.

Stunning piece, stunning deliveries although so different. Ah, the magical, mysterious, magnificence that is music.
He than used the distortion while singing the Phantom of the Opera, as a surprise to her.
He told so himself, in an interview. At the general rehearsal he didn't use it yet.
Kiitos to you. ❤😷
Tarja + Marko 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I get the feeling Marco gave it that extra so Tarja would have the performance of her life this night. If it was a favor or his inner angst is hard to know.
For your information: Marco was the most insistent of letting Tarja go. He stated: "It is her or me, that is going out."
It is very fine, that he does not allow it to spill in to this performance.
Completely agree. That's what I try to get at by putting these next to each other. No hard comparison, just listening to 4 different artists make different choices with the same music. No hierarchy involved. Thanks for your insightful comment 👍
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Thank YOU! My love for Nightwish, only since one year or so, brought me to your place, somewhere on the web and your presentations, fed by warm charism, bring joy to the world, friend ;-}
A good thing about such comparisons is that some people realize that there are also othe people who can sing beside their star. And if it's intriguing them to find out more about that person they didn't know so far to widen their horizon, it served a good purpose.
i do find this comparisons kinda dumb.. i do prefer marko and tarja, i admit..but that`s because i m into metal more than into classical, those brutal, powerful songs, growls, screams calm me down, i enjoy them more than words.. but i know it`s a me thing, subjective to what i feel.
I find comparing something you feel stupid.. because it is what you feel. Your on view of that feel.
The version of Nightwish with Tarja is my favorite. The power that Tarja's operatic voice has is incredible. Floor has a powerful belting, but a soft operatic voice. For The phantom of the Opera, Tarja's voice impresses me much more.
No i not agree with you, sorry
@@ralfmeyer9086 your english is as horrible as floor's limited voice
I actually find the Nightwish rendition to be more chaotic more difficult to connect to. The pacing the note the tone of Tarja's arrangement to be less pleasant, like its pushing note to push note. Tarja never had me have chills even if she is an amazing singers. Floor gave me chills so many times I dont understand but there is something much more appealing to me to the tone and delivery Floor has in general.

@@soundslikeblue Of course not. Placido Domingo could sing the C5, Lugiano Pavarotti couldn't. Wouldn't say that Pavarotti was the worse singer. ;-)
