Ref in the Trafico should be done for the season. Horrific call. He ignored every bit of advice he was given and only wanted to watch the play at full speed. He has made his mind up before he ever walked to that screen. Awful call. Worse given that he has the ability to make the right call and refused.
Absolutely horrendous. His reasoning was "The defender was nowhere near the goal, was late, and there is contact." 1. He is near the goal, they are within the 18 yard box. 2. yes his slide was a bit late, but he pulled out of hit to avoid any contact which leads to the most important thing... 3. The contact that was there was blatantly initiated by the attacking player which is textbook no PK. This official ignore the criteria already in the rulebook for this situation and made up his own criteria based off of his feeling, completely ignoring the evidence in front of him and the advice he was receiving. There should definitely be some sort of reprimanding done here. I would have expected better from even the replacement refs.
at first i thought u were talking about the penalty right before this but now watching the video further i see the play, as a referee with over 200 games in mls next highest level of youth and adult amateur leagues, this is a terrible call, has to be either paid and just extreme tunnel vision
It's very obvious that Bouanga faked it. You can see a shimmy in his hips top. Anyone in the world can see this was the wrong call. This wasn't even borderline. Dang that's bad.
Freeman has that simulation handed to him on a SILVER PLATTER and fucked it up. Every single person watching knew it was a dive, every player knew, he got the close up confirmation replay, and STILL blew it. I would expect this from one of the scabs but not a PRO ref.
I actually think the replacement referees were more likely to be influenced by VAR than PRO referees. I think both, and pretty much any referee, would have made the call a PK on the field.
The even sadder thing is that I just watched LAFC vs Portland and at one point you can see Bounga actually complaining to the ref about another players diving. Classic.
You letting this level of incompetence stands is a huge detriment to this organization. These grossly incorrect calls should carry suspensions for the referees. Back to training camp. Not even an LAG fan. I'm a fan of the league that wants to see it be taken seriously.
Kudos to you for showing the El Tracifo play, despite the terrible call. Really disappointed in the officiating, that call straight up decided the outcome of the game. I hope there's disciplinary action for the ref. Even with VAR he managed to botch the call.
Whats the point of all this if the call is not right on the field! Is the mistake reviewed with ref? Is the ref disciplined not working a game or two while going through training on mistake made. Is an investigation made as to reason error was not more sinister!
I understand that the central ref has the final decision, but if he made an obvious error like LA game ref did and then sticks to his obvious error there should be a suspension.
They need to be able to decide if a clear and obvious error was made within about 30 seconds. If not clear and obvious, let it go. The New York-Atlanta PK review took almost 3 minutes.
Exactly. Idk why the VAR officials were saying to reverse the call. It definitely wasn’t clear and obvious. If he didn’t call it on the field, then I don’t think he should give it. It was a minimal contact but he did make contact
I'm still not convinced that the attacker didn't swing his arm back voluntarily more than he was pulled. If you look at the full run, he swung his arm back almost that far on the previous step as well. That said, I don't think there's enough video evidence to have reviewed or to overturn it.
This is a clear PK as it spun him around but if the force of the pull was significantly less then it would be borderline. But in the end, pulling a player like that is not a soccer play and should be punished. Awesome that the ref stuck with his original call. Good on him!

The El Trafico penalty shouldve been rescinded and a yellow for simulation. Embarrassing
Man got to see it in different speeds from different angles and still got the call wrong, hope there's some accountability for that
I dislike both of these teams and I 100% agree with you.

Pathetic from the el trafico ref. Bouanga should be given a suspension for cheating and the ref needs to be suspended. Ridiculous.
Fire the ref from the LA derby
I agree but it’s El Trafico*
@@borisalmengor5952 still a derby is it not?

The sad thing is that both the ref and Bounga will not see any punishment for that awful call.

There should be a fine for Bounga and a suspension for the ref for 3 games with mandatory testing before returning to the field.
now that I see it again yes he got the call wrong in lafc game

MLS always protects their investment a tie or a loss would’ve put lafc in the bottom of the standings and they don’t want that
I'm not much of a sports conspiracy theorist... but man, watching how the refs treat LAFC and Miami, it's really hard not to be sometimes.
The VAR in the NYCFC is just bad. Thats a clear penalty all day long. Not sure what he was seeing. Glad referee kept with his call.
