    I really respect Crumb for his advice to stay sober. Here's a guy who did it all and has come to the conclusion that it really isn't a good idea in the end and it sounds like he thinks it is mostly a waste of potential.

    He seems a little mellower, warmer, more cheerful here than in Crumb. Maybe living in France has been good for him.

      Agreed. Of all his interviews this is actually the most animated and comedic I've seen him. You could tell he was firing on all cylinders. And he seems more socially assimilated here.

    "Stay sober" what a great advice to the youth.
    Consciousness is a gift. in fact the totality of our instincts of survival/self-preservative can only function in the vital realm of our consciousness. But consciousness should expand in order to live better and stronger. it's a waste of life if we never work on our own consciousness and never try to learn new facts of life.

      But come on, let's be fair here: if the audience wasn't laughing they'd be derided as being a "terrible audience" by someone else in these comments. This seems, at the very least, like an exceptionally receptive audience to me.

    Certainly bodies are affected by everything we consume, but for practical purposes, "recreational drugs" is an easy to understand and useful concept. I have no problem with people using Marijuana because it's safe when compared to alcohol or tobacco. But, it's also fair to state that even pot has it's unwanted side effects, one being is that it's habit forming for most users, and smoke inhalation isn't good for the lungs. And the munchies.

  • @mu99ins
    @mu99ins 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Mushrooms or Peyote, okay, but not LSD. Set and setting are crucial. Crumb is right, though, life would be better without drugs, but humans want to get high. Pot is probably the least harmful of the recreational drugs, but there is a strong taboo against it. I quit pot in 1990, and I expected it to be really tough, but it was easy. And no cravings for it later.
    But, like Crumb, I'd smoke it in my dreams. I'd say pot was as habit forming as television.

  • @StopFear

    Even Crumb says LSD sucks. I am not anti-drug in general. Weed is not very harmful. Hate cigarettes, but everyone I know who has tried LSD says it is horrible. Hopefully someone who is wondering whether to take it will avoid it because it changes your neural synapses permanently and some people do not end well afterward. Don't take the chance.

      The medical profession has missed a big opportunity due to the laws around psychedelics .
      There have now been numerous studies which seem to suggest that if properly used in a medical situation they can be a great help with the treatment of depression.
      I'm not saying just go out and get stoned , I just think that used in medical situations a lot of people may get relief.

    NO ONE P0ERSON can be held responsible for the New York Magazine's descent into utter mediocrity since the early 1990s, but they couldn't have done such a bang-up job of it without Francoise Mouly's indispensible contributions.

  • @mu99ins

    In the video, the term "drugs" was used in the context of recreational drugs, not medicines. Some people don't take drugs everyday of their lives. Me, for example. I like to have my dram of single malt Scotch every evening, but I often forget. You think you'll be dead without marijuana. I know that feeling, since I smoke it steady for 23 years. You have to stay away from your pot smoking buddies for a while to quit.

    Not really their fault; Crumb didn't really seem to mind. But kudos to those who could shut up and listen.
